UK entering the chat: we would love to do more trade with Canada
|

We need to walk away from the USA. Canada needs to build a Canadian vehicle line rather than anything from the USA. We need our own micro chip factory. We need to partner directly with other trading partners, even if it’s at a cost
|

Well considering Canada has 72% of exports to the US and Mexico has more than 80% to the US,... Good luck...!

We love the good people of Canada and can’t wait to welcome them as the 51st State.\n\nThe tariffs are meant to crack down on Chinese exports moving through Canada and Mexico as middle men to avoid their own tariffs. Had both Canada and Mexico regulated the terms of our agreements better on “product origin” then none of us would be in this position. Furthermore, China smuggles drugs through both Canada and Mexico using resins that are chemically embedded with synthetic drugs. So, neither Canada nor Mexico should be climbing on any high horses when their exports are killing our people.

Canada and Mexico needs to coordinate tariffs to US products to increase their impact.

Canada should foster more trade relationships with Europe and Africa..

The drug and immigration is an excuse - Trump is a crook. Let's go Canada! Charge the Americans more for Oil and Hydro and tarriff Tesla 100%

I’m betting that within one week Canada and Mexico will cave. It’s time these two countries stop taking advantage of the USA. God bless President Trump !!

Unlike other countries, Trump cannot play with Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and Europe.
|
| 2025-02-02 | 0 |
so it is Mexico first and Canada first, but not America first?
|

Canada and Mexico should quit NAFTA and apply to join the EU. If Trump wants to isolate the US, he can knock himself out.
|
| 2025-02-02 | 0 |
Even if Canada cant win this, a response has to be given. Drumpf cant be allowed to think he can do what he wants to anyone without response.

No, you guys are not going to get out of paying your bills, if you balk, we will foreclose on Canada and you'll all become American citizens and you'll all have to start paying your bills. Or, you can pay us cash, right now for your share of defending Ukraine... your days of freeloading and spounging are over.

Our GDP (approx. $28T) is nearly 14x that of Canada (approx. $2T). They won't win a trade war. The same goes for Mexico because they're GDP is the same size.

Trump is a foolish bully! Canada, we in Australia stand with you!

Canada should make zero tariff to Chinese goods and Canadian middle class can afford cheap EV and all other commodities. Treudeu should know that US has no friend but interest only. Henry Kissinger
|

Thank you Canada ?? unfortunately this administration only understands 1 language if DT continues Canada should cut off electricity&energy supply
|
| 2025-02-02 | 0 |
Canada and Mexico’s 25% does not actually equal US’s 25%. Canada and Mexico are consumers more than producers. They are both addicted to American investments and products and the US wants to bring jobs back to the US.

Bring French Carrefour in Canada. Not Costco nor Walmart.
|
| 2025-02-02 | 0 |
So let me get this straight. Trudeau is imposing tariffs on the U.S. to make everything Canadians import from the U.S. that they need more expensive to Canadians and Trump is doing the same thing for everything from Canada though we need none of it and therefore will stop buying any of it. This will not go well for Canada. Ouch!!!

Canada you’re playing a dangerous game with a super power !

Let’s see ? the US doesn’t need your milk, cheese, oil, lumber, cars really which is up to US manufacturers to open manufacturing in Detroit again…..maple syrup yes but I think we can get that somewhere else in the US too.\n\nCanada depends on the US for 75% of its gross GDP. It also costs the US $200 billion a year to continue trading with Canada. Will see who blinks.\n\nMX, good luck. Will see how many months before we hear a large Ugh..

Impose 100% tariff on canada

Canada & Mexico have facilitated the influx of drugs manly from China that have killed 100,000 Americans a year for the last 3 years! How did you think this was going to play out?
|
| 2025-02-01 | 0 |
As an American it feels a bit extreme, but all Canada has to do is attempt to fix their border, but your leaders would rather choose war. OK. 75% of Canadian exports go to the US while you only take 12% of ours exports. This will be a bloodbath. If Canada was a state in the USA, it would be the 4th largest economy. I have family that is from Canada, this makes me sad.
|
| 2025-02-01 | 0 |
Think the US will Sanction the leadership Canada and Mexico in retaliation....? Sanction the countries.. threaten to remove them form SWIFT...<< that would be a bit extreme but it is trump at the helm.
|
| 2025-02-01 | 0 |
Putting tariffs on other countries triggers those countries to also impose tariffs on the US and likely trade with other countries and leave US alone with its goods. Not too good. Canada, Mexico, and China putting tariffs on US will slow US economy big time, like it or not.
|
| 2025-02-01 | 0 |
If the US has a trade deficit with Canada of 200 billion, America has nothing to lose if it completely shuts down trade all together, the alternative is for Canada to set up shop in America.
|
| 2025-02-01 | 0 |
Mexico and Canada should employ a total trade embargo.
|
| 2025-02-01 | 0 |
Such a bad decision to do this with canada
|
| 2025-02-01 | 0 |
What Trump said about Canada leaching on US economically and militarily is true..so why don't Canada rulers face it and fix the house from inside instead of, using the dispute as an election leverage ? How far their hypocrisy and opportunist minds can go ????

Canadian here. The tariffs will hurt. And this may just be the beginning of a sprawling trade war, but make no mistake, Canada is not for sale, and Canada, despite its soft spoken nature, is determined to keep going on its own way. We have free trade with the EU and Pacific nations. For any US companies who find themselves caught up in tariffs for their export markets, consider setting up your export shop here, to keep your Canadian customers, and continue to have access to European and Asian markets under free trade agreements that are respected, and operate independently of any decision made by President Trump. Businesses need predictability and stability, and your neighbors to the north can provide that to all of your export markets.
