I am Cuban. I came to the US legally in 1967. My parents left their families and everything behind in order to give my sisters and me a better life in the freedom and democracy of the US. We flew out of Cuba the day after my 7th birthday. We are not satisfied with the hk pathway policy, why can they enjoy the same benefits as our locals ? \nIn the past, people who applied to become a PR had to wait at least two or three years. During this period, they had to pay international student fees and then transfer to a work permit step by step, or join the investing immigration program, and then start to enjoy the benefits after becoming a PR. However, as soon as the hk pathyway people landed, they enjoyed the same benefits immediately as the locals(liked free education, local student fee for university, Child care benefits) which the locals felt were unfair. The days they (hk pathway people)contributed in Canada are very short, and the benefits they receive are far greater than the taxes and contributions they pay. The locals just feel that the benefits they enjoy today are indeed the contributions they have made to society (including paying taxes) over the years. It is reasonable to get a reward for how much they have paid and contributed, but it is unfair for those Hk pathway people to enjoy the same benefits as locals. \n\nThe hk pathway temporarily policy need to be amended. They shouldn’t receiving full benefits as locals while waiting for PR, they should pay the international student fees. Also, too many hk people abuse this policy, use fake academic qualifications to study, and then their whole family receives CCB , also enjoy local students is unfair to our locals. what was not mentioned in this short video that should have been is proof that immigration is not causing the housing crisis. That is that the housing crisis now extends to small towns and rural areas. It's almost as expensive to rent in those areas these days. I know this because I have been seeking to move out of Montreal to a smaller town for the past 3 years and cannot find anything in my price range (been looking at rural Quebec and Ontario). \n\nHere's the thing, immigrants come to major urban centers like Toronto and Vancouver and to a lesser degree, Montreal. They do not go to rural areas or small towns at least, not in the first few years they're here. Given that, why does the housing crisis extend to small town and rural areas if migrants are not coming to those places?
