My sister's husband was sent to the USA for his job. His company wanted him to work down there for a while. He got a 5 year work VISA. They paid taxes in the US, and it didn't give them the right to stay forever. They paid income tax and property taxes. She wasn't allowed to get a job so she renovated the home they bought, and made a profit when they sold it. So after his 5 year Visa was over, they moved back home up here. Just because people contribute and pay taxes while they hold a work Visa, doesn't give them the right to stay once that Visa has expired. MY SISTER AND HER HUSBAND HAD TO LEAVE THE USA AFTER HIS 5 YEAR WORK VISA EXPIRED. LAWS MATTER!! OUR CANADIAN RULES MUST BE ENFORCED TOO!!!!

Difference between legit immigrants and international students is that most immigrants are committed to staying long-term and contributing to the society and country. These international students have no such commitments, and they do not integrate. International students take up the jobs that tax-paying citizens used to do such as grocery store checkouts. The Dollar store near me used to hire older citizens but now they are filled with international students who don’t even speak English in the store. So frustrating!\n\nNoooo! Why should Canadian Government do something for International students? Shouldn’t that be done by their own Country’s government?

International students and other immigrants contribute greatly to Canada’s economy. The government knows that that's why they were asking for so many immigrants to come here. How come one minute they had a goal 1.5 million immigrants then the next minute immigrants are the problem? Theyre just using immigrants as a scape goat instead of fixing the housing problem. Immigrants work very hard and pay a lot of taxes and the international students pay 4 times the tuition as Canadians so they are boosting the economy. Maybe the Canadians living on welfare are the ones who should leave because they are not contributing to the country.

Stop picking on international students. The legitimate ones pay very high tuitions which is Canada’s greatest source of revenue for those of you who don't know. Also if they do master's programs then get high paying jobs that means they pay higher taxes than many Canadian born do. So legitimate international students contribute greatly to Canada’s economy stop acting as though they came here for free.

This should open peoples eyes that majority minority and immigrant Canadians (euopre etc included) are not for this.. because our parents came the honest hard way. And like they have to want to be canadian.. u need to want to assimilate.. \n\nHave an Indian Canadian talk vs a student here working.. and they’re not the same..\nCanada doesn’t owe them anything, any other country will kick you out. U came to study and after you’re done u can apply for proper work, live here for a few years then apply for citizenship. Canada goes to these countries and market themselves so that why u see young students are coming to Canada . 10 years ago not many people knew Canada in many countries everyone wanted to go to USA . But then Canada started to go to those countries and tell them to come to Canada , pay for high tuition and they may get a chance for PR. Same as Canadian running to US for work and stay there longer than usual .

Prefer welfare while Canadians pay for it

As a Canadian citizen, I see that there are 3 major issues at play in this problem - \n\n1) Canadian colleges are starved off funds and do not have a sufficient, stable source of revenue. Hence they seek to attract international students who pay (at least) 4X the fee a Canadian citizen would pay. According to mainstream media such as The Globe and Mail, National Post and others, International students contribute some where between $15 to $18 billion per year in revenue to Canada. This is huge!\n\nSince this is a lucrative revenue stream for them, they have gone overboard and are providing strong financial incentives to education / immigration consultants to bring more international students here. Consequently, many existing as well as new colleges are encashing on this trend and diploma mills have mushroomed in Canada lately. This is ABSOLUTELY Canada’s fault and the accountability of fixing this lies with Canada alone.\n\n2. International students who come here often end up taking humongous debt or selling off their homes/ancestral property to be able to afford their education and hence they feel cheated when the dream they were sold doesn’t match the reality. \n\nHaving said that, International students do need to understand that they are here or a temporary visa and DO NOT get to dictate terms to Canada. It is Canada’s sole prerogative to extend their work visa or not, depending upon Canadians requirements.\n\n3. The Trudeau Liberal government benefits by giving these students extended work permits and a pathway to citizenship as it translates into votes for them. However this is an atrocious approach to winning elections and puts unnecessary pressure on the system. \n\nCanada needs to streamline this whole student visa process and take stringent action against these fake diploma mills, education and immigration consultants luring foreign students. It damages Canada’s reputation.\n\nLastly, extend the work permits of only those students that meet Canada’s labour standards and requirements and send everyone else back home.

Then what is the problem,.ask the government why they are giving them visa, because Canadian government is greedy, they want students who paying high feeses

These students are from very wealthy families who often have housemaids and servants to do domestic chores and who can afford to pay ridiculous student tuition for a second-rate Canadian post-secondary education. There are top Indian schools where it costs maybe 1/8th the cost and the education is very, very good (e.g. Indian Institutes of Technology) and certainly better than what they are getting in these second-rate diploma mills in Ontario. Moreover, there are very good tech jobs in India in cities like Bangalore. What these students are really after is Canadian citizenship, through a pathway that does not require strong qualifications. They were promised that by Indian immigration consultants. With Canadian citizenship, it is much easier to travel and live in the US, where many of them want to go (and some are even now entering illegally). \nA second reason is that these younger adults want to live independently from their parents. Many of them arriving in Canada are living on their own or with other students, for the first time in their lives, and are enjoying a lot more freedom from Indian social norms such as not being able to date people of a different religion or sexual orientation, or to marry the person of their choice instead of having parents involved. Three or four generations ago, when a lot of immigrants came after WWII, those from India were coming to large research universities or engineering firms and had a job or full fee waiver or university fellowship waiting for them. They were much more qualified and went on to be doctors, professors, business people and other professionals. This is what largely composed the Indian diaspora in Canada, until this wave of students brought along by the current government which admitted over 200K Indian students -- per year.

I’m a Canadian nurse and I lived in the US for 10 years during my career. I did it when I was young to gain work experience and travel with friends. It gave me a lot of insight in how it feels to live in both countries. I’ve been a nurse and patient in both counties so I also know how it feels to work, live and be a resident in both. \n\nI cannot articulate enough how it has confirmed to me how fortunate I am to be Canadian. The perks to living in the US were very superficial and frivolous things that matter very little in the broad scheme of things,….which I see as more restaurant chains, cheaper restaurant food, more shopping options, etc. As a young person when I lived there,…those things seemed amazing but matter far less as I get older. \n\nWhen I lived there, I paid a fraction of the income taxes that I paid in Canada but it’s only short term gain for long term pain. The cost of health care, the amounts of gov funded benefits (disability, EI, pension, etc) in the US makes it well worth paying taxes to offset these things as in Canada. I have had cancer 3 times in 5 years and I’ve not paid a cent for treatment, scans, surgery, etc in Canada. My employer held my job for 2 years and I received long term disability of 70% of my yearly wages and my employer paid my full pension and benefits as I was off of work. After 2 years, my cancer returned and was deemed incurable so I will continue to receive this pay and benefits until I’m 65 and can retire as I can no longer work. I have no financial worries as I battle cancer. \n\nTo contrast,…my US employer was a world reknowned hospital that had excellent pay and benefits. Had I been working there when I was diagnosed with cancer, I would only have gotten full pay for 6 weeks until my sick time and vacation time was used up. Then I was eligible for a fraction of my income for 3 months, which would not be enough to live on. I would not have had my pension paid. After that, I’d receive no more pay and my employer would hold my job without pay for 6 months and then I’d be let go. My cancer required nearly 2 years off of work so after 5 months of this minimal pay, I’d have no income, no job and no benefits with a new pre existing condition to ensure that I’d have a snowballs chance in hell of getting future coverage. Meanwhile during that 5 months of some pay, I’d still need to pay huge costs of treatment despite having insurance but that would disappear after I was let go from my job. I’d have to return to work during my treatment just to afford to continue it. I have many US friends that had a similar cancer that worked throughout to cover basic cancer care while I was able to recuperate without working or fearing being unable to pay. There is nothing comparable to this when you are sick. It is everything!\n\nSadly, many of my American friends are very ill informed on how health care works in other countries and don’t see the shortcomings in their own. Ironically though, they are willing to argue it without proper information so I often find that bizarre. While lived there I felt as though I was in a bubble where the only news that I saw was US news. I saw no info or minimal about Canada in my whole time there,…aside from falsehoods about health care to scare people away from seeking change. “Canadians are all dying while waiting”, “they are all coming to the US for care”, “they pay 80% income tax” etc. All propaganda,…some from politicians or those that should know better. It was truthfully mind boggling to me how educated people could know so little about the world. It almost felt as though they heard so much propaganda about how terrible other places were while only having knowledge of the US, that it ensured that things would stay the same without anyone wanting beneficial changes to dysfunctional policies (like health care, cost of meds, lack of gun regulations, etc). It’s very bizarre.

Its a simple thing. Folks are trying to leave for a better life, they then got to know about Canada giving 3years postgraduate work permit to international students who studied for two years and, there are permanent residence programs you qualify and can apply for after getting one year Canadian work experience. This is what encouraged many international students to head in this direction. Unfortunately, half of about 800,000 international students admitted to Canada came from India (if i'm not mistaken), many of them had to borrow the money to pay fees or their family sold their ancestral land or used it borrow money with the hope that when their child who they sponsored with the money is done, he/she will be the family's hope to not only pay back, but help them relocate too. However, the picture is not looking like it anymore as the demand for jobs surged and many are not able to get jobs or can't find the kind of jobs that can make them get PR and, their current work permit is about to expire, which means they may be faced with going back home with nothing so, they are pulling every string they can to stay back because, returning will mean they are a failure and can even cause their family a lot of emotional damage. Infact, i have heard of some of them who committed suicide as they are not meeting up and are not ready to go and face the shame back home. So, what you are seeing is the definition of desperation!

New immigrants dont integrate in Canada or Canadian life. The priviledge of going to school is for study not PR. Its not a back door immigration program. You dont go to any other country and make demands or protest. Few if any go in the needed trades so time to go home. The numbers are unsustainable and its killing communities with housing and jobs as well as limited resources like healthcare and education. Governments and post secondary have failed Canadians who have had enough of paying the price and need borders closed. Clearly somewhere along the line these students are coming with false promises and expectations. With housing crisis if Colleges and Universities cant house all those they bring over on campus and provide the housing then higher caps to meet who they can house. Failure to do so close them down. Most communities are in emergency state for homelessness so of course no sympathy or tolerance for protests. Schools are for study only not a back door.

There IS NOT a lack of housing in canada , there IS ONLY an affordability problem along with far too much immigration by volume and time frame . Our services and infrastructure (ie; transit services , health care , employment , realisticly affordable housing , finances , etc .) are no where near adequate to accomodate canadians even before the over populating of foreigners . They have been coming here and buying up all the affordable housing during , and post pandemic , with offers far above listed or fair market values , to push owners to sell without question or thought . Following this they stack multiples into these homes illegally and against code , to be able to take up all employment at wages that canadians can't survive on ,forcing them out of employment , homes or both . Once stable and trained to know that business operation , one of their people buy the business and no longer hire any canadians . YES ! TRUE FACT!! How is this accepted ? This is something we could never get away with anywhere .... Selling your country , one property at a time , is only absolute lunacy . They pay top dollar and care nothing about the money , because being that they own most of the businesses , they will get it all back from you within about a years time by raising prices ultimately to do so . Why we have been so run into a crisis within a silent war , is far of that beyond me as we should b lead by our suposed intelligence . There is only right now to react , and correct on this !! We want our home back as it was !!! Oh , and a leader is defined by one who leads , not one who experiments at the expense of our lives !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, that was not the conditions. Tax payers should not be paying them, they should not be going to food banks. That is set up for the taxpayers whose taxes pay for them. If there so much work, they'd be working, not taking jobs from Canadians. Go back to your own country, practice there what you learnt here. Teach others in yogurt ur country what you learnt here. All funding s hould be cut fr om them, Visa exired so should funding.

I truly feel for the students since every student i have met have great intentions to work hard make this great country there own... its a tough situation for all of us since we dont have enough high paying jobs for the canadian citizens... its a tough situation for all of and i hope we can get through this with everybody being happy...

I graduated in 2009 in Ottawa in Mechanical Engineering, 70% of my graduating year now live abroad including myself. Better jobs, higher pay, more opportunities, higher tech, lower cost of living, cheaper cars, better weather.\nI lost my intention to go back about 2 years ago after the government did such a poor job of handling c*vid. Although I'm a proud Canadian, I dont call it home anymore.

As a landlord the tenants do not pay their rent on the top of that they ruin the property before they live and this is a problem I prefer to keep my house is vacant and wait until the Canadian government regulate the law to punish bad tenants and curb their behaviour.

Yes!!!! I'm an RN who fled Canada due to the insane tax rates and cost of living. I now pay 24% income tax, have a higher quality of life, employer paid benefits, and access to health care within hours / days rather than years. Canadians pay half their income to taxes, then die waiting for basic health care.

Twenty years ago I left Canada and boy am I glad I did so. The country has turned into a disaster unless you're rich. The obsene house and rental prices are obviously the result of gross mismanagement. I mean, the government employs economists who should be able to advise that too many buyers and too few houses is going to lead to major trouble. A rich country with so much land should not have this problem. When it comes to gas prices, Canadians have to drive some of the longest distances in the world and are forced to pay such high gas prices. Since there is almost no public transportation, what choice to people have but drive. Regarding the grocery situation, allowing a handful of massive companies hold Canadians ransom is complete bullshit. This is where the government needs to do something to rein in this behavior. Obviously people need to eat but allowing these companies to rake in obsene profits because of this basic need is a crime. I hate the idea of a PC government, but the Liberals have definitely failed.

Most Canadians save up through their lives for 30 years to afford a house. Why do they need to own a large house as soon as they get a paid plane trip here. I grew up in apartments buildings (not a condo but rented apartment) then a town house - now I own a house. When an apartment opening comes up and a born here Canadian does need it- then bring in someone applying and they should be fluent in English and already have a needed skill to contribute to society. I would never move to the US. Not on your life. Your statement that one can get healthcare for several hundred a month is ludicrous. Most Canadians don't have to pay anything, except their taxes, which are not higher than most Americans pay. And the huge costs of healthcare pop up at the worst time, when you're really sick. But that isn't the only reason. I loathe American politics. I loathe the American tendency to brag about how great they are. We Candians are not the greatest country on Earth. We can take advice from other countries. Americans tend to go on bragging and insisting their way is best long after they've been proven to be wrong.

It started in the 1970’s with Trudeau senior initiating his policy of ‘Multiculturalism’, which effectively opened the doors wide for people, explicitly stating that it was Canadian official policy to support, respect, and pay for immigrants to NOT assimilate! I am Indian and the lady who was talking about adapting to the culture in the country you’re in, is absolutely right. \nBut then, Canada also needs immigrants and workers who can take up minimum wage jobs and most of them pay taxes. But yes, there are also antisocial elements that cause problems for everyone. Perhaps, to Canadianize the immigrants, the Govt can have cultural exposure and introduction classes. That being said, I am not sure how Homelessness and Drug Addiction is a related to immigration, I would consider it a mental health problem.

Many students don’t even study or even attend College, they work and pay for their Certificates, it is all a Scam , that’s why there is no jobs for Canadians that has so many bills to pay and are now in debts. Get them out so that real Canadians can have jobs and be economically stable.

The problem of feeling locals as immigrants in their own country is due to addiction of drugs. So question that first. Secondly, immigrants are back bone for Canadian economy. So if we live in Canada that means we are paying taxes in our high paying jobs like physicians, IT software or establishing stores. So better not to cry on immigrants, and get a life!

I’m a Canadian truck driver. It’s time to teach these drivers from any other country that we do have laws here. I get passed by trucks being operated by people from his country all the time in most unsafe manner. Often on hilly roads with curves and blind spots. They pull up beside you and then motion to you to slow down so they can complete the take over. How ever in the Humboldt accident I believe it was a matter of not paying attention. But blamed on sunlight blinding the driver. What ever the case was laws are laws. They are there for a reason.

I'm a canadian and my Scottish hubs came here 7 years ago and hes like canada has gone so far downhill. We are saving so we can go to scotland and give it a go. Not looking at it as a save all. South Asian Indians are fourth generation Canadians and are educated, successful and have assimilated with the European culture. Being an Indian living in India I can tell you one thing that mostly people who are not 'good enough' in anything pay lumsum amount of money to move to Canada. For instance, most of the students going to Canada for study, lack foundational knowledge that should've been taught to them at school. Take a GRE-like exam by randomly selecting Indians residing in this area and u will understand what I'm talking about. Unfortunately, the current Canadian govt knows this and capitalise on this problem as they have turned the education system of Canada into a money-vending machine. Furthermore, no skill development opportunities and lack of jobs intensify these problems as these individuals are never exposed in a multicultural urban setting. That is why likeminded individuals aggregate and live in silos. Lastly, for my Indian brothers and sisters, I would like to say that yall should try to assimilate with the culture rather than live in silos. That doesn't necessarily mean yall should abandon ur religion and culture, but try to participate more in various activities associated with Canadian culture. Like Im a Hindu, but I participate in Eid & Christmas as well in India.. We should be open to new experiences, especially when moving to a foreign country, one should be able to adapt.. just like one adapts to the weather, one should also embrace the culture.. Try talking to people who are 'non-Indians', have a genuine conversation, find out the history of the place and various other key milestones in the region.. mostly engage in amicable social behaviour. Holding grudge & closing doors to new interactions would not solve anything, neither for Canadians nor for immigrants.. Live and let live.. Cheers!

Very kidding same reason still used by Canadian employers for job seekers without local working experience today when moving to Canada more than 20 years ago. Think twice if you want to move to Canada for better life without job. This is not a country for many professionals. They will use same excuses used back to 20 years ago to reject you: no local work experience, no Canadian degree, etc. The truth is no opportunity. They just want you come to spend money for paying higher rent, living expenses to make economy grow. Their middle class population is dying everyday. Most of them are coming to get hold of work permit, float fake resumes in IT field, displace high paying Canadian jobs. Most people working in high positions and hig paying jobs in software testing field of IT have entered and settled his way.

As an Indian these so called students were dumb to leave India where growth is taking place and go to Canada, I think in long run it is good if a few get dissed. The stupid fascination with western country is purely dumb. \n\nSome even have a lower pay in Canada then India, and the leaving conditions and white collared workers becoming blue collared. Makes no sense. So yeah Canadian should do as they please.
