All these countries like Canada, US are relying on Indians, Chinese and other foreigners to run their tech economy. Indians are taking huge loans (like 40L) to sign up to their universities. Their locals are not signing up for it. They are incompetent. Foreign students are a major source for their universities. More than 95% are foreigners. If not for foreigners, then these programs will shut down. And then they poach these foreign students to work in their tech sector. But you have to understand again in your Canada water video. Canada has a lot less population. That being taxes are higher in Canada but more land for your dollar. Less GDP do to a smaller number of people which also becomes a factor of Canada not making the 2% GDP to NATO. There's alot of factors on why Canada does what it does. It's not that we don't want to keep up with the rest of the world. It's that it's very hard to with such a small population.

I'm just speculating, but obviously Trump's stated reasons for the tariffs against Canada don't reflect his real strategy. He wants to exert maximum pain and pressure on the current liberal government in Canada so that its more likely a conservative like Poilievre will get elected. Then, he'll end the tariffs handing him a victory and thus solidifying a conservative influence. Maybe. In any case, he wants more influence over Canada and its unnerving to watch.

Canada needs to get all new trading partners, they need to look to Europe, Asia, and other countries. There are other markets out there, especially in the EU, where they are no longer getting energy from Russia. If Canada shows any weakness Trump will hit Canada even harder, the only why Canada stays strong and comes out ahead, is to be strong. Canada will suffer for a while, but with new trade partners, Canada will be much better off.
