There is a massive housing shortage right now, so of course, the rent, and real estate is completely unrealistic now. The cost of literally everything is driving through the roof right now. If you are thinking of coming here, I would wait a few years till we get this mess sorted out.

All the reasons you cited are legit. And you’re right to say that it’s all relative depending on where you come from. If you lived in Canada for a long time, you will probably cite all the reasons. But if you’re from another country specially from a third world country, Canada is very much better to improve their lives. For me, housing, expenses and weather are the most important reasons to leave Canada. It’s all relative.

Moved out of Toronto in 2016, when I go back it is horrible to see the changes. I had a great 1bd 2bth for 8 years at 1600 a month right downtown in a beautiful condo (no rent increase). I'm sure now I'd pay twice that in rent for a much worse living experience.

I lived in Canada for over 20 long suffering cold years. My rent in 1982 in Kamloops for a large two bedroom appartment was 105 bucks a month. Then when I moved back to Toronto and got an apartment right on Young at Grosvenor our rent shot up to a tough 620 bucks a month (all utilities included) but I was making a lot of money so it seemed like the good life. I wonder how expensive that luxury high rise is today? Probably about $4500 per month would be my guess. Canadians don't like to talk of the negatives in Toronto, but I feel really sorry for some of my family still there. My mother in law broke her back. All they could do is give her pain killers for the four months before she could get penciled in for surgery. And that was before it all went to hell. It's nice to see so many shots of places that were once so much a part of my life, but in all honesty moving to the States was the best thing I ever did. It was in fact like an escape from madness. Now similar crazyness is here, even on the South East coast of the US. Time to look for another escape. Any suggestions?\nOh, and my friends cousin got murdered in the Jane and Finch area years ago. Canada is Canada. Instead of forcing the majority to live your lifestyle, the right thing to do is you move to a place where you feel comfortable, safe and inclusive. I totally agree that this country will break your spine and test your ultimate willpower. Me and my wife came here 5 years back and we decided that we will shut ourselves like a tortoise. Forget about savings and forget about everything else. Only and only one goal we had in mind is that we will live in the basement and earn top dollars. Just to give you a perspective. My first pay was 19 dollar per hour and my current pay is 87 per hour. My wife started with 16.5 per hour and now earning 69 per hour. We moved out of basement and felt immense pride. We paid 37% down payment and 3 banks approved our mortgages in a heartbeat. No debt at all. We paid up our car in full. You are absolutely right dear. I've lived in Canada since November 1968, moving from England where I consider trying to live there to be even worst than Canada. I am 82 years old now, having survived through a number of hard times here. However when I have finally paid off my mortgage, I'm going to have a little money to travel for three or four months every year, but I have to stay in Canada for at least 183 days each year to continue receiving my pension.

The public school system is to teach the public and to cator to everyone, not just religious people. They're paying for themselves and then some. It's amazing. Pick a winter activity you enjoy to get you out of doors, like hiking, skating, downhill or cross country skiing, snowmobiling or hockey and you will learn to love it and appreciate the change in seasons. The right winter clothing makes it very comfortable. I live in Ottawa and there is a huge Islamic community and population here.

I lived in Western Europe, Japan and at the moment, Canada. Things like utilities (e.g., gas/electricity), restaurants, certain grocery items and electronics (e.g., iphone/PS5/computers) were significantly more expensive because European VAT (inclusive) is usually 20%+. \n\nI don't have the exact numbers but on average I believe I was paying 70 - 90€ ($100 - 130 CAD) just for electricity each month for a small flat, but I am now paying $30 - 50 CAD for a decent sized 1 bedroom. I believe my housing gas bill was about the same or possibly a bit more. As a Torontonian born and raised here it’s had a couple shifts in feel over the past decades. Around the mid 90s, there was an increase of gun violence, crime and theft in the city which caused my family to move out to the burbs. I moved back during the 2009 recession for higher education at one of the institutions downtown. At that time, there wasn’t much violence at all. We went out til the wee hours of the morning from Fashion district (Queen and Richmond) to Honest Eds (Bathurst and Bloor), to Yonge and Dundas square. There were still some homeless people then, but fast forward to now, it’s gotten aggressive. Instead of the homeless people keeping in their camps, but now, they have been displaced, are angry, mental health issues are rampant and incidents can happen anywhere. I think we have the right mayor in place now to make some positive changes for the social issues in the city and I am optimistic that we can get it cleaned up over time. For now though, I agree with the sentiment, come for a visit, but maybe skip out on living here until the social issues get sorted. You always have to keep an eye on the back of your head these days.

Real estate in Australia is expensive because the nation is highly successful and ordinary citizens are wealthy, and this includes real estate, plus with 3 billion middle class Asian's right above Australia the Asian economy dwarfs the US economy to insignificance. Job opportunities are dictated by the fields the economy needs - oil is insignificant in Australia compared to other industries. Geographic Isolation - Thank god the rest of the world is far away, as an Australian I wish it was further away. Air fares prior to pandemic were reasonable USA to Australia around $800 return - but this guy lives in Perth so to go 4-5,000km to the east coast will be expensive - on the east coast a one way ticket to another city can be had for around $50 to $80 - Again for Australians proximity to the US market is not significant we are focused on the Asian region. Natural beauty anywhere is amazing but I prefer a warm climate over a frozen one - The Canadian population is all centered around the US/Canadian border region the rest of Canada like central Australia is vastly empty. In conclusion I find many immigrants want to move from Australia to Canada is proximity to the USA but for Australians the US market or lifestyle is not attractive or important.

If you want to live in an Islamic state you move to a Muslim country. Canada is a secular democracy that guarantees your religious freedom. No Muslim country does that unless you are a Muslim. Wouldn’t it be much better if you considered yourselves human beings before all else? It is your humanity that gives the true power of redemption and being decent, moral individuals. No religion on earth does that. Not yours or any other. Belief is not as important as knowledge and humanity. However, you must do what you think is right for you. I can appreciate what you are saying. I live in Los Angeles and we have many of the same issues and worse in many cases. You mentioned a lot of things that are problems and you are right. What you did not mention was who is responsible for the policies being enacted. My guess is that like Los Angeles, it’s run by progressive liberals who are passing laws that don’t put your citizens first. That’s what has happened in Los Angeles. I would highly recommend that anyone looking to move to a major metropolitan area, check to see who the mayor is and who’s on the city council. Canada is already run by leftists so I assume the apple is not falling far from the tree when it comes to your city leadership. In the US, people continue to reelect these incompetents.
