My child graduated in computer science in 2021 and is still looking for a job in software development. Government policy allows Canadian companies to off shore their software development work and also allows for foreigners with IT experience to be fast tracked as permanent residence to Canada. It is gloomy for young Canadians, as our Govt- federal and Provincial- places more focus on businesses and profits about stability rather than orderliness in our society.

The number of new homes built in canada (not sure if its accounting for demolished homes in order to build) was less than half of the number of immigrants who permanently moved here in 2023. They need to slow tf down.

Canada was built by immigrants no doubt. When Canadians are unwilling to do the low pay hard labour, and give birth to kids, there has to be immigrants to fill the gap. Housing crisis is the elephant in the room, it has been around for quite a while. Remember one decade ago in Vancouver #donthaveonrmillion? Its worse now. International students became easy solution/target for politicians to blame because they cannot vote. They were considered as solution of labour shortage back during Covid then there was a labour shortage. Sean Fraser the minister of immigration back then made it super easy for international students to stay in Canada permanently. When he takes the office of Minister of Housing, he starts to point fingers to those students. Who let them into this country in the first place? We need more roads more houses. IRCC needs to work faster to get more skilled workers doctors into the country. Putting a cap on current immigration level is not a good idea.

I'm SO fed up with how these stories are framed.\n\nStep one: Say the students are the victim. Talk about all the good they do. How productive they are. How much money they bring. I have no sympathy for anybody who chooses to come here either without doing enough research, or worse still, to scam their way to a permanent residency. This needs to be cracked down, and hard, for the good of everybody involved.

Most of these International students are making the education standard to fall and our own Canadian kids cannot get spots in universities. These international students are here for the Permanent Residence Card znd not studies.

The Litmus Test to grant permanent residence status must be: Are they gainfully employed and not working below subsistence pay. For they must help in building the country and not a burden to society. Fair enough.

Also the college courses are completely garbage. No real job after you graduate. They usually do business diploma and drive truck or work at convenience store to get permanent residence.

There are many international students who are not going to school or studying. They are taking advantage of loop holes in the Foreign Students Act that lets them take on jobs and work towards getting permanent residence. Some are using the educational system, but not all. They are taking advantage of our legislation to jump the que in obtaining permanent residence in Canada.

Not only that they come under bogus universities/collages that just collect money and all these people get away with a permanent visa after that with no marketable skills and being stuck in the 15-23 pay range.

We don't need their productivity. Leave the jobs for Canadian citizens and permanent residents. There are people in this country who will do the jobs that international students are doing. We don't need their contribution. We need our housing supply . Please leave.

Fyi - international students (for the most part) work extremely hard, apply for work permits after they graduate and eventually apply to become permanent residents. This is a good thing.\nMaybe rather than clamp down on those immigrants we should worry about illegal immigration or limit our intake of refugees

there's nothing wrong with Canada educating the world but it shouldn't be a direct pathway for permanent residency. The other thing that Canada has to check is the quality of education that these students are getting. I spoke to some and they say that they didn't learn much

Most of em come here to get a permanent residency, it's just that they have to go under student visa first.

You need to realize most are not going to the universities. They go to shady private colleges and diploma mills like Conestoga. These are low or unskilled people who just use the student route to get permanent residency.

Canadian collages did not had money 10 to 12 years ago to keep courses alive and pay professors without increasing tuition on Canadian born kids. so they charge international student double fee and makes millions of dollars. some of the courses had no value. still students are joining and coming here to get legal Permanent residence. I got out permanently, right before the big crash, in 2014 and never looked back. The grass is definitely greener anywhere on the other side of the fence, when your side is just snow, ice and slush. And since I've left, every time I hear or see news about Canada, or talk to family there, I just shake my head. Then I go enjoy my palms trees.

Before locking people down for months at a time as occurred during Covid, hopefully politicians will consider the long term repercussions, if such a thing should happen again. Countless businesses closed their door permanently, people lost their jobs, children are still behind in their education, and mental health issues hit the roof. It was like a dream to me moving to Canada someday, but now I'm kinda reconsidering it due to lots of people saying basically the same. It's a shame, since it's more accessible to the permanent visa for those who want to move to study.

Most of these students just use the student visa in hopes of getting permanent residency that will eventually lead to citizenship. Anyone wants a G7 passport and Canada is the easiest to get in terms of time you need to spend. \n\nAs for Canada its all numbers. International students equals free money. Money to schools to subsidize local students (foreign students pay way more) and of course while they are staying in Canada they need to spend but they don't get government benefits unless they are already a PR or a citizen.

I came to Canada in Jan 2022 on permanent residence from India and returned back to India in November 2023. My reason to move to Canada was, I moved back to India for personal reasons after living in USA for 10 years (studies + work). I moved to Canada because I missed US, and thought it was difficult to adjust in India, and US would never give me green card anyway (due to country of birth quota). I moved to Canada with a job in hand, but opportunties are limited here. On top salaries are low, even compared to India. Healthcare is a disaster. In US, I could see a doctor next day. I had 4 surgeries done in US, multiple CT scans and countless X-rays. Never had an issue. In Canada, despite paying high taxes I fear of not able to get medical treatment and wait for months to see specialist. \nSlowly I realized, this country is not USA anyway and was naive of me to think of it as a viable replacement. I ended up returning back to India, as in end I realized India has issues, Canada has different ones but in India at least I can earn well (70 to 80K CAD while 2 BHK costs me like 500 CAD per month, 300,000 CAD for luxurious 3.5 BHK) and I can be close to my parents, the reason for which I left US. I will always miss US though. As long as I have family in India, I will never think of settling anywhere else. But the only country I would ever consider in future is USA.

I like what she says about her grandchildren, in future years, may have to leave wherever they go now… alluding to the possibility (I believe) that perhaps there is no permanently perfect place… I can understand how they would appreciate living somewhere where the daily prayers are announced 5 times daily over loudspeaker. I often feel so very isolated in myself in MY way of life here in Canada (which doesn’t happen to be as a Muslim). After all, we are the “cultural melting pot,” and so many people of different cultures have come here and tried to make a life work for them. Canada is seen as “a land of dreams” by many, but it depends on what our dreams are, for real. For instance, what were many immigrants hoping for when they fled Europe after World War II? Canada bends over backwards catering to new immigrants, giving away free welcome packages of essential items, providing free language lessons (when you are supposed to be fluent in at least one official language of Canada when immigrating), giving you instant permanent residency upon arrival allowing you to enjoy free universal healthcare and free primary and secondary school education for the children, allowing you to be eligible for Canadian citizenship after just 5 years of residing in Canada only requiring you to stay 6 months of a year in Canada.
