I find hilarious the irony of the government and people thinking that putting in place legislation for specific groups of people (Latino, black, Asian , etc.) Is going helping to promote inclusion. Wouldn't it be better to just putting in place laws that apply to every citizen equally, regardless of race and culture? Why do we have to have special treatment just for our ethnicity? I almost feel all religion should be completely private. Any suggestion of any religion publicly should be illegal. Christianity/islam etc. You cant discriminate against islam. If everyone kept their religions private/secret and those flouting that were jailed that might work. Fair for everyone really. Why should people need to ram their religion down others throats. A good approach would be to enforce the laws that the state follows, in this case harassment. Treating harassers like any harasser would be treated. I don't think targeting specific groups is a good approach. Because when you do that you generalize and punish innocent people also. Attempt to make the laws fair and are capable of being implemented to every offender equally.

No Christian or non Muslim have equal rights in gulf or muslim majority countries, so why Western countries are giving equal rights to these Muslims.

And btw CBC, talking about intolerance and hate, will you be doing a major CBC investigation into the many arson fires at Christian churches of late? There is clear hatred against a religious group going on with the latest arson at the famous Nantes cathedral in France. Will the CBC be doing stories about the racial hate of the perps when they are caught? Even if the perps are not white? Somehow I doubt it. Although it's a daily topic in the CBC, their anti racism coverage only extends to certain select groups. They don't actually demonstrate a true belief in equality.

we are not the USA and we do not have their problems so we can not compare Canada to how the USA treats its citizens...we are all born equal and unfortunately there is some racism on all sides and not just white....

If we want to have equality lets just rip this off like a bandaid. Equality - no one gets any special treatment based on their race or gender. No special funds locked behind race. No special programs locked behind race or gender. No more pity partys - just equality. Take full responsibility and accountability for your own success or failure and earn your keep. Born to a wealthy family? Lucky. Born to a poor family? Unlucky. Either way you have more class mobility in a capitalistic western society than anywhere else in the world. Work hard and you can have an entirely different lifestyle in 3-4 years.

Honestly, it's hard to say. These men are not equal in looks in my opinion. There's something to say about attractive people getting preferential treatment. Not that there isn't racism. There definitely is. But it's hard to quantify with these experiments.

Introduce policies for double blind testing procedures since doing so would be a great first step. This helps to remove bias in certain fields and a great example is in orchestra's. Since it's implementation they've seen a rise in the diversification and equalization in general. This might be a good way to resolve the issue in education and employment which in turn could spread to the general society. It also helps to ensure that the most qualified individuals get the jobs and not those who happen to have connections.

Multiculturalism and equality of opportunity are meant to be Canadian values, part of the Bloc's origins was to strengthen the french Canadian rights to exist instead of being assimilated. It's bizarre to me that there is such resistance to uphold our own values in this country when issues are brought up.

To me, a democratic society is an equal and just society for each and every citizen. Freedom is where every citizen has all their civil rights in that democratic society. This means we should be valued and treated equally under every circumstance.\n\nI'm a Canadian and I can see we are not doing that by over-policing black and indigenous communities, by denying indigenous communities the ability to participate in Canadian society with their own culture in tact and by our biases about people with other ethnicities, like Asians and East and West Indians.\n\nWe may not be bad as the US, but we are still doing these things. I'm a Canadian who has spent time living in other countries and cultures. I've experienced racism both for my race and for other races - this subject has clear storylines in North America, a peaceful world demands we eliminate racism, that means all racism regardless of race. Regardless of skin color. Racism exists equally from black and brown towards caucasian, it's systematic racism by class or wealth that I believe needs healing.
