Neither I am a fan of President Trump nor his supporter. \nJust want to say this, if Trump's implemented tariff is backfiring economically, why would someone choose the same path for his own people??

The real reason is we aren't investing in our military as we promised we would a while back. Tariffs are just a way to tax citizens is all.

I’m a 53 year old Canadian. I went to college on an athletic scholarship & lived there for 10 years after turned professional in my sport. Why, why, why - with all the problems going on in the world right now to tackle - why would you want to start a trade war with your closest trading partner & most loyal ally? Not to mention that your list of Allies is shrinking daily. This is not going to end well for either of us. \nI just arrived home from a trip to the grocery store - making sure nothing in my cart said “ made in the USA” on it due to the new tariffs that began today. \nThe irony is, many of the states where Trump won by the biggest margin, are the states that are going to get hit the hardest from Canadian retaliation tariffs ( Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Indiana, the Dakotas - just to name a few). A lot of farmers in those states are going to be hit extremely hard with the fertilizer tax. After Canada, the next 3 largest Potash producers are Russia, Belarus & China. So , good luck \nWhen the cost of fruit & vegetables skyrocket across the US. Maybe you’ll put a little more thought into your vote 4 years from now.

It would have been better to call the move “ill-advised”. Referring to POTUS by first name and saying it was “dumb” is just going to provoke DJT who everyone, fans and critics alike, knows is vain and does not have the humility to accept insults. It’s Trudeau breaking shtuff on his way out. He doesn’t have the mandate to put us in a worse position; he is being selfish, I think, in taking an unnecessary low-brow jab. Calling it ill-advised or similar gives Trump an out, to pass the buck to Lutnik when it becomes apparent that this tariff idea is a steaming pile for everyone involved.

You know what Donald would do if he were in Trudeau's shoes? Cancel all border programs and allow fentanyl into the US to pay for Tariffs. Stop looking for migrants and plant gardens along the border.

Anyone of sound mind, a leader, a government would want to continue to strengthen relationships with it's neighbors BUT instead, deliberately dismantle it and let it's citizens in both countries pay the price. And once again dirty filthy politicians are not looking out for it's citizens. Why are people in power so hell bent on ruining the world?

What did Canada gain by following the U.S. in imposing a 100% tariff on Chinese EVs? Have you think the U.S. would impose tariffs on Canada as well?

President Trump doesn't care. The US has been subsidizing Canada's electrical grid for over $250 million dollars a year. Canada will loose that. In addition, US automotive industries like stellantis are moving productions back to the US from Canada. Canada has been charging the US dairy products 250% in tariffs, US Bourbon and whiskey 180% for over 4 years. China has been charging Ford 200% tariff so much so that ford can no longer afford to sell their vehicles in China.....all these outrageously high tariffs were designed to protect their domestic products.... China was suposed to spend 4 billion dollars a year in US goods but they have been consistently spending only 1.9 billion each year . Trade deficit of over 2 billion dollars. What sane person would allow this to happen in a free market and call this fair trades????? I have no knowledge of this until recently.

This is a small voice from Asia. I would say that the world is watching this event interestingly. U.S. policy can turn around 180° with just one person. You can do this to your friend, your ally. Can anyone trust you anymore?

Well. Based ON THEIR WORD Trump paused the tariffs because of promises made ...... Just like Mexico they said they would secure their borders to help stop the flow if illegal immigrants, drugs, gangs and terrorists into the USA... THEY DID NOT. China did nothing to crack down on fentanyl being smuggled out of their country (although I think they would rather see American people die of overdoses. We will have to remember in the future that half of us voted for this. To not have the, “It wasn’t me…?” reaction. Why would anyone ever trust us again? Retaliatory tarrifs against USA are necessary, but a better impact would be achieved with significant but similar retaliatory increase in sanctions against Putin. In that way, Putin will be more likely to tell his boy to stop the attack against Canada.

This situation is far worse for Canada than for the U.S. Trudeau knows this. History is being made. I would say this will be viewed either as one of the smartest political moves by a U.S president, or perhaps one of the dumbest. Time will tell.
