I was in the Missouri when i got sick. I drove home and was diagnosed with a brainstem tumour. 10 hr surgery, 4 surgerical teams, icu, wks hospitalization. Months of rehab and homecare. The school even arranged a cab to take my 5 yr old to school. I have seen bills for pts who didn't make it home and had to have surgery in the US before being repatriated back to the icu i worked. It was an eye opener to see what they were charged for a box of kleenex, a catheter, an iv bag etc. I would have lost everything if i had to have surgery in the US. \nMy sister is currently in hosp in the US, and she is getting good care. I drove down last time she was in, and i was impressed by the lovely large CCU bay, but, hey patients are paying for it. She had a fancy postop CABG pillow to splint her chest when she had to coughed. It had a cute surgical heart on it. I am sure it cost $$. In Canada, we give our pts a regular pillow, some iv morphine and tlc when it hurts when they cough, no fancy cartoon pillow, but no bill either lol. She's a senior on medicaid so she's not going into massive debt or dying in her home to avoid going to the hospital.\n \nI have been travelling to the states since 1976 as a young child. I love the states, I have a lot of family there. My dad lived there until his death. My great grandma immigrated and died in Montana. I have never had a negative experience there in over 49 yrs, other than the old lady backed into my parked suv in the hobby lobby lol parking lot l\n\nA big plus in Canada, is paid Maternity/ paternity leaves and also caregiver leave. I am a senior and live in Vancouver, BC and my son who has dual citizenship lives in Seattle, WA. His wife and him will move back to Canada when he retires. I visit Seattle and enjoy going there. The shopping is great fun especially with all the big store headquarters being there and we can't forget Trader Joe's. I don't drink alcohol anymore, but the cost, volume and availability is crazy. He also lived in New York and lived a train ride away to the suburbs (great system) and was a lovely area to raise a family. Visited NYC and loved it. I've lived in Montreal and just love big cities. In saying all that, I think were all basically the same, however I could never permamentally live in the US. I can no longer afford the outrageous travel health insurance to travel to the USA because of my age and health issues. I have a primary doctor and four specialists that I see on a regular basis, waiting for a hip replacement and none has cost me a cent. Oh yes, I get free dental care. I wouldn't move to the states, but would sure like to visit again. Politics is a whole other subject.

Yes I was, after Trump got elected no. Disabled human rights are horrible here and as compensation for lawsuits can be capped in cases that is unlikely to change. I should state the government had to pay me $25,000 dollars for violating my rights (this cost me $35,000+ in legal fees!) so I know of what I speak. It was the same when I moved provinces. In terms of mobility my fate was better in the 4 third world countries I visited after my stroke, there are no busses in loads of places here as we can’t “afford” them. Also I should state the government tried to make me site an NDA that would not allow me to state their behaviour, this should be illegal where government money is concerned! On to health care…. Why do disabled people struggle to get a family doctor when they move provinces? Also why did the mother of a Ukrainian disabled kid have to go back to a country that had been invaded to get help for her child that was having convulsions? She got no help here and her child was in our system by then and her husband has been paying taxes since I got him a job here 3 day a after landing. Yes there are a lot of good Canadians but this situation has become much worse and Canadians are masters at ignoring things. There is a Ukrainian flag flying from my cabin not a Canadian one. Our youth are very unhappy and do not see a future for themselves yet have to work very hard and pay unbelievable high taxes. The minimum wages are only 15 bucks an hour which cannot sustain life here in this country. Please stop making false promises to foreigners to come here and be disappointed. This is not a country of milk and honey any longer but poor and enormous homelessness. Hunger, terrible health care, incredible post secondary tuitions and books. Now that president Trump has won the election he is going to place tariffs on Canadian goods and rightfully so. Russia is very interested in the Antarctica and should they or anyone invade Canada we got 3 days of ammunition. The food in AB is very bad for your health. Everything has pesticides, hormones, and by the time fruit and vegies arrive here from the US all the nutrition have gone. A extremely high cancer rate, young and old, diabetes, depression and other mental disorders are rampant. Our children and grandchildren do not have a future so why bother going to school or work. Our kids live on the streets, shelters, camping in the woods and using fentanyl and meth all kinds of dangerous drugs. The cities and small towns are full of used needles, pipes, and more paraphelia just thrown on the trails everywhere. The US will not assist Canada when a possible War 3 will occur, and we the people of Canada and the land are easy prey. If you do not believe me, just come visit RED Deer shelters and walk around on the trails, go to Vancouver but becareful because random assaults are happening every day, people living in tents, using the streets as toilets, drugs galore, even the police is unable to act nor arrest criminal activities caused by desperate people who need to survive. Canada's economy is about to collapse and fall into a recession. We have too many people coming in our country without checking their back ground and many criminals and terrorist groups are entering declaring refugee status whether it is true or not, we do not know. The people of Canada who work and pay highest taxes are used to house these newcomers and education, jobs, food and money. Our government take better care of these illegal people than their own people especially our youth. So please let us not pretend Canada is a land of opportunity and great. We have to vote for the right leader who will have a very difficult time and challenges to overcome if at all possible and make Canada Great Again!

Someone should let them know that so called better life is not waiting for them in Canada at least. We have plenty of our own political tensions, we're taxed to death, probably have the worst health care system in the world, extremely high cost of living, everything is expensive, the only jobs available are part time, crappy overpriced food, a housing crisis and brutal winters every single year.. Nothing but pissed off, miserable people here. Many Canadians I know have moved to India and love it. Come if you like but I bet you'll wish you hadn't, especially when Trudeau won't let you go back, not with your money anyway.

I have ethnic background from Hong Kong and have been living in Canada for almost 40 years. I love Canada and am proud of this beautiful country. However, I think part of the immigration problem we have is the ongoing issue of allowing dual citizenship of everyone who have become a Canadian citizen. I have personally known lots of HK immigrants who would return to their own countries to work as soon as they have got their Canadian passports. Normally one of the parents would stay with their children here for free schooling, medical care and child tax benefits. Their children will follow their parents to go back to HK after they graduated from universities in order to avoid the higher income tax . Unfortunately, those parents will come back to retire in Canada so that they can get free health care benefits and OAS once they have fulfilled the residency requirement of 10 years. Canada do need more skilled and educated immigrants to make our country more prosperous but not those who try to take advantage of our lenient immigration policies. I think we should take back the passports of those who have left Canada for more than 2 years or those who have evaded taxes so that we do not continue to support those never contributed to our country. PS, I mentioned about HK only because of my origin and I believe the same problem would be caused by immigrants from other countries too.

First, this is NOT your country, it belongs to Native Americans. If your azz isn't a Native American, you are an Immigrant! Now that she was able to become a citizen, rather than helping her family members to get their legal status, which can be difficult, tedious and very expensive, she could care less if the lives they have already spent decades on building here are completely destroyed. She seems to be fully aware that it can be a difficult process, and I personally have seen that it’s not exactly a fair one either. I have seen some people spend not only years waiting on a hearing or a determination, but spend thousands they scrape together on lawyers and obtaining records, while others submit minimal evidence and get a determination in weeks. Instead of admitting that there are problems with the system and vote for people who are actually trying to help, she wants the same system that made it a difficult process for her to stay the same for them. In fact she voted for someone who is going to make it harder if not impossible for them to come back the right way in the first place. Is she not thinking? If they get deported, that is going into immigration records and when that gets pulled up when they apply to come back it will likely cause any legally efforts to return to be rejected. And who knows how long that will stay in their system? Could be years, could be permanent. Biden’s idea to help those undocumented who are married to citizens to be able to apply and get a temporary visa to stay here while they wait so that families wouldn’t have to be broken up by having the applicant return to their country of origin. That was not just a great idea from a humanitarian point, but they could apply for a job that wasn’t going to take advantage of them by paying below minimum wage, with no rights if they are injured. That could help bring local wages up. They would start contributing back by paying their fair share of taxes, and do on. Republicans in red states stopped it though and are suing the Biden administration for trying to do what? Help people and fix some of the issues that our broken immigration system has caused? \nSorry lady, but you earned your family’s ire and whatever treatment you get from the administration you voted for.
