25% is more than fair. We need to get back American jobs. I gladly pay more for avocados and maple syrup.
|

But this will make people pay 25% more just only target the companies that are linked with Trump. Canada & Mexico China is saying Hello nothing more just hello.

Who will pay the tariffs?? Yup, grassroot americans that soon may find the price of the fruits imported from Mexico jumps up 25% and also the oil price + raw minerals imported from Canada would jump 25% as well, which at the end, would seriously affects the price of end products of some daily items needed by grassroot americans

It's a tax increase so why aren't you calling it higher taxes? The media are so shady at not being direct with the people.\n\n25% increase in import tax that the importer pays to the tariff increasing government. It's a 25% increase in government taxes
|

So Canada will pay a extra 25% for their Rice Krispies treats and we will pay a extra 25% for our ice cream. Got it.

People who do not know how the customs duty system works think that the customs duty is paid by the country where the goods are imported, but this is not true. The importer company pays the customs duty in the country that imports. The importer company collects the tax it pays from the people of that country by adding it to the price of the goods it sells in that country. Therefore, a 25% customs duty will cause the price of the products sold in the United States to increase. The increase in product prices will also cause inflation to increase. Inflation will cause the purchasing power of people in the United States to decrease.

Question... where does the tariff money go.. when the American importer pays 25% on top of the base costs for the good where does that 25% go? who gets it.
|
| 2025-02-02 | 0 |
US .put 25% tariff on Imports from Canada.\nCanada put 25% tariff on Exports to US.\nBoth additional fee will be passed to American citizen to pay eventually.
|
| 2025-02-02 | 0 |
The US has been running a trade deficit with Mexico, China, and Canada for almost two decades now—Canada only makes up 6% of all US imports while the US makes up 63% of all Canadian imports.\n\nCanada will have to find more trade partners besides the US if it doesn't want its consumers paying 25% more for US goods, most of which are mechanical machinery, automotive parts and vehicles, minerals, medical equipment, energy products, and consumer goods.

As an American I believe ALL Canadians should boycott US products and spending in the USA. This is not how the USA should treat its allies and friends. Now Canada will never trust the US and things will escalate. To all those commenters that say the USA has the upper hand and will win this battle, yeah maybe so but that's not how you treat allies and in the end the common man on both sides of the border will suffer. Tariffs are a US consumer tax. The country getting tariffed doesn't pay the 25% lol

Everybody has some sort Internet connection. They need to look up what Tariffs are. When Trump was campaigning he said he was going to put a 25% tariff in China and all of his supporters cheered and clapped ! I’m sitting here going don’t they know that that increase cost is going to be pushed down to the consumer?!?!! It’s the everyday American who is going to end up paying that 20% 25% increased in cost!!! it’s going to affect our living standards and not in a good way! Not the wealthy people in this country who Trump says he’s going to protect because they’re his friends! I don’t get it! Trump is sitting here, threatening to put tariffs on all the countries that’s not doing what he wants them to do! And people cheer! Unless you’re the wealthy, you’re gonna be screwed with the cost-of-living that’s gonna be reflected in those tariffs!!

So let me make sure I understand! We, the US people, will be paying 25% more for all products coming in from Columbia. No one in Columbia will pay extra. This would essentially slow down products coming in from Columbia or any other country. The US people pay for this. It could or will change the behavior of these countries, but WE pay for this!!!
|

Do any of you geniuses here realize who pays for tariffs? Your supporting higher prices on imported goods!\nGo from trade free relationship.. to 25% tariffs?\nWhy?\nSo boner boy keeps his ego stoked?
|
| 2025-01-26 | 0 |
Explain it to them through THEIR lens. Thats what they care about. Here is an example: feel free to use it:\nYou buy a GE company bulb that is made in China for $10.\nNow trump imposes a 25% tariff on imports from China. \n1. Who collects the Tariff: The US Govt.\n2. Who pays the extra 25%? GE. \n3. Is GE a philanthrophic/charity organization? No. So why will they bear the cost of the exta 25%?\n4. So what do they do? Now your bulb costs $12.5.\n5. Why? Because 25% of 10 is 2.5. So 10+2.5=12.5\n6. What does this increase in price mean? Inflation.\n7. Wont this encourage make in America? No, because you deported immigrants and now you have to pay american wages. Suddenly your bulb costs $20 because GE pays minimum wage to an American. So yeah, now everything is made in America but you are homeless paying more for everything.

At one time no South American country would have dared defy a US president and risk invasion and regime change, now they all openly defy Trump with abandon since the rise of BRICS. Colombia has applied to join BRICS and these retaliatory tariffs will simply speed that up. Colombia stated quite clearly - we will not accept undocumented migrants who have done nothing wrong but work, pay their tax and behave as excellent members of US society - basically Trump try somewhere else to dump your unwanted workers. Americans' favourite Colombian coffees have just become 25% more expensive, millions of cups of Colombian coffee is drunk the US every week.
\n\nTrump’s ridiculous comment about Jordan, Egypt and other Gulf countries taking Palestinians whilst Gaza is rebuilt is equally stupid; those countries cannot accept forcibly expelled, ethnically cleansed Gazans because that would be a War Crime and render those countries liable to be accused of complicity in a War Crime by the International Court of Justice; they would also incur the wrath of their respective populations and put their governments at risk of being overthrown.
\n\nAll the surrounding countries and the International Community needs to do is to flood Gaza with thousands of tons of humanitarian aid and millions of large family-sized tents, as well as mobile toilets and washing facilities. Supply bulldozers and rubble removing machinery to clean the land up as quickly as possible, as well as bomb detection kits to protect the children. The Gazan people are incredibly resilient and will happily live in tents whilst their country is being rebuilt around them, and the State of Palestine begins to emerge again.
\n??

Trump should raise %25 on petroleum product so that the US citizen are paying for it
|
| 2025-01-26 | 0 |
For these slow people, let me explain how this works: tariffs work as a tax on poor people. First time in the White House, Trump put a 25% tariff on China goods. Dollar Tree, which imports from china usually to sell everything for a dollar had to pay 25 cents on a dollar in taxes to collect the goods from the ports. So it passed that tax to the prices. So went from everything $1 to everything $1.25. a 25% percent inflation. Then China stopped buying soybeans from USA. Farmers went broke and Trump have to give them 29 billion in handouts so they won’t go broke. Genius?
|

He is an IDIOT! Could someone tell him that tariffs cost Americans!!!\nIt doesn't affect the countries that Trump thinks he is punishing.\n\nCOUNTRIES ARE LAUGHING AT HIM BECAUSE HE IS MAKING IT HARDER FOR ANERICANS TO LIVE!\n\nTrump thinks he's being a tough guy. Wow 25% up to 50% against the countries. WRONG STABLE GENIUS WE, AMERICAN PEOPLE, PAY THAT 25% TARIFFS.\n\nCan someone send him a book explaining who actually pay tariffs!!!!
|
| 2025-01-26 | 0 |
I wonder if this means Don Junior is going to be paying 25% more for blow
|
| 2025-01-26 | 0 |
I rarely LOL but hearing about an immediate 25% tariff on goods today and 50% next week actually did it. Talk about losing popularity… wait until everyone has to pay 25-50% more for their coffee. Cocaine will be spared because I’m pretty sure cartels aren’t paying duties and tariffs on their imports.
|
| 2025-01-26 | 0 |
Way to go Donald, now US consumers will have to pay at least an extra 25% for their daily cocaine. What a chump!!
|
| 2025-01-26 | 0 |
Prices will rise here,as we the consumer will pay for yhat 25%
|
| 2025-01-26 | 0 |
Just so everyone knows. Colombia doesn't pay the tariff. We do. Look into it. Just force Colombia to take them since they are their citizen. We don't need to have coffee go up another 25%!
|
| 2025-01-26 | 0 |
25% - 50% Colombina retaliation Tariffs is little peanuts.\nOur 25% Tariffs will have them pay millions in days and a billion in just a month. How can their economy survive this. They better listen this wildness or they'll collapse their own in economy in half a year or a year if they manage it carefully
|
| 2025-01-26 | 0 |
it does mean you'll (you, US consumer) pay 25% more when you'll import products from Colombia
|
| 2025-01-26 | 0 |
One thing to note is if there are high tarrifs on one country..as a business person I would choose the second lowest country to get the same product(if the product is rare and unique to that country obviously gov will exclude that from tarrifs)...why would I pay 25% extra...\n\nSince US has money many countries are willing to do business...So it's finally a loss to Colombia or any other country.
|
| 2025-01-26 | 0 |
The American citizens are GOING TO PAY THOSE 25% TARIFFS, SO IDIOTIC TRUMP SUPPOTERS/VOTERS GET YOUR MONEY READY!!!!!!!!!!!! \nYOU DID THIS TO THE REST OF US!!!!
|
| 2025-01-26 | 0 |
Someone please makes sense of this for me. I'm placing a tariff on Columbian goods because i couldn't be bothered to pick up the phone and work with my allies? I'm raising prices by 25% on OIL, COFFEE and PETROL which will raise prices for the very voters i promised on day 1 to lower their living costs.\nSomeone please make sense of these opposing contradictions please. Does anyone actually believe he's so stupid as to still not fully grasp and comprehend that a tariff is a DOMESTIC direct consumer tax and the exporting country doesn't pay a copper penny to the US treasury? \nTrump's policies are to remove cheap labour from the country, while raising prices on every product coming into the USA . This is the moronic insanity MAGA voted for and millions of Dems stayed at home to not vote against. What a monumental mess in a week. Encore.

Out of control immigration drives up the cost to buy and rent houses, same issue here in Australia.\nWe can't builld enough houses in Australia to meet the demand. Many building companies went out of business when the price of materials increased but their contract price couldn't.\nCashed up immigrants who can afford higher prices effectively drive locals away from places to live. Homelessness is increasing in Australia.\nThe government then tries to build more social housing and pays the builders higher prices than a person building a private house can afford, which continues to increase the construction cost spiral. We now have $1M+ houses being built for people on welfare who only have to pay a maximum of 25% of their income, and that income is given to them by the government. People are better off being unemployed and living off government benefits and housing than to have a job paying less than $100k/yr.

Mexico’s Economic Apocalypse: My Personal Analysis\n\nThe imposition of a 25% tariff on all Mexican imports by the United States would be nothing short of an economic death sentence for Mexico. As someone deeply concerned about the integrity of U.S. borders, sovereignty, and the well-being of American citizens, I believe this tariff is both justified and necessary. Mexico has repeatedly ignored its responsibilities as a neighbor, and it is time for accountability. Let’s examine the devastating impact this tariff would have on Mexico in brutal, undeniable detail.\n\n\n---\n\nEconomic Collapse: A Nation on Its Knees\n\nMexico’s economy relies heavily on exports, with over 80% of its exports destined for the United States. A 25% tariff would obliterate Mexico’s competitive edge, pricing its goods out of the U.S. market. The result? A $100 billion annual loss in trade revenue—a wound so deep it would cripple the nation’s economy beyond repair.\n\nGDP Freefall: With exports constituting 28% of Mexico’s GDP, the tariff would slash growth rates and plunge Mexico into a severe recession. Entire industries would collapse under the weight of unsold goods and lost revenue streams.\n\nMassive Manufacturing Shutdowns: Mexico’s lifeblood industries—automotive, electronics, and steel—would face annihilation. Plants dependent on U.S. buyers would grind to a halt, leaving millions unemployed.\n\n\n\n---\n\nSocial and Humanitarian Crisis: A Nation in Chaos\n\nThe economic fallout wouldn’t just affect industries—it would decimate millions of lives:\n\nUnemployment Epidemic: With factories shuttered and exports decimated, unemployment would skyrocket, leaving millions of families destitute. Entire regions reliant on U.S. trade would become economic wastelands.\n\nHuman Desperation: Widespread poverty would fuel desperation, leading to a surge in crime, social unrest, and violence. Mexico’s already fragile social fabric would unravel, plunging the nation into chaos.\n\nMass Emigration: Unable to survive in their homeland, millions of Mexicans would flee to the United States, creating an unprecedented border crisis—ironically the very issue the tariff seeks to address.\n\n\n\n---\n\nFinancial Ruin: Mexico’s Peso in Freefall\n\nThe peso would face catastrophic devaluation, losing value faster than at any point in modern history. This would create:\n\nHyperinflation: Everyday goods would become unaffordable for the average citizen. The price of imported essentials—like medicine and machinery—would skyrocket.\n\nInvestor Exodus: Foreign investors, seeing no future for Mexico’s economy, would abandon the country. Capital flight would cause Mexico’s stock market to crash, sending shockwaves through the financial system.\n\n\n\n---\n\nThe Root Cause: Mexico’s Negligence\n\nMexico has brought this apocalypse upon itself through years of neglect and willful inaction:\n\nIllegal Immigration: Mexico has consistently allowed massive waves of illegal immigrants to flow across its northern border, destabilizing U.S. communities and eroding American sovereignty.\n\nDrug Trafficking: The unchecked trafficking of fentanyl and other deadly drugs through Mexican cartels has killed tens of thousands of Americans annually. Mexico has done little to combat this epidemic, allowing cartels to thrive.\n\nBroken Promises: Despite agreements and warnings, Mexico has failed to step up as a responsible partner. Words without action are meaningless, and the time for talk is over.\n\n\n\n---\n\nWhy Trump’s 25% Tariff is Justified\n\nPresident Trump’s 25% tariff isn’t just an economic tool—it’s a weapon of justice aimed at holding Mexico accountable for its negligence. Here’s why this move is essential:\n\n1. Securing U.S. Borders: Mexico’s failure to stop illegal immigration has forced the United States to act decisively. This tariff will compel Mexico to finally enforce its borders and prevent illegal crossings.\n\n\n2. Protecting American Lives: The flow of drugs like fentanyl must stop. By crippling Mexico’s economy, the tariff weakens the cartels that profit from this deadly trade.\n\n\n3. Economic Leverage: The U.S. is Mexico’s largest trading partner. Without access to the American market, Mexico’s economy collapses. This leverage ensures Mexico has no choice but to comply with U.S. demands.\n\n\n\n\n---\n\nA Brutal but Necessary Move\n\nYes, this tariff would cause unimaginable suffering in Mexico, but that suffering is a direct result of its government’s failures. President Trump is not to blame—Mexico is. By ignoring its responsibilities, Mexico has forced America to take a stand. The economic apocalypse that follows is the price Mexico must pay for its negligence.\n\nThis is not just about punishing Mexico—it’s about protecting the United States. It’s about securing our borders, saving American lives, and ensuring that the U.S. economy is not undermined by a neighbor that refuses to act responsibly. In the end, the 25% tariff is a painful but unavoidable reckoning for a nation that has long shirked its duties. The survival of Mexico’s economy depends entirely on its willingness to change course—and fast.

Yes I was, after Trump got elected no. Disabled human rights are horrible here and as compensation for lawsuits can be capped in cases that is unlikely to change. I should state the government had to pay me $25,000 dollars for violating my rights (this cost me $35,000+ in legal fees!) so I know of what I speak. It was the same when I moved provinces. In terms of mobility my fate was better in the 4 third world countries I visited after my stroke, there are no busses in loads of places here as we can’t “afford” them. Also I should state the government tried to make me site an NDA that would not allow me to state their behaviour, this should be illegal where government money is concerned! On to health care…. Why do disabled people struggle to get a family doctor when they move provinces? Also why did the mother of a Ukrainian disabled kid have to go back to a country that had been invaded to get help for her child that was having convulsions? She got no help here and her child was in our system by then and her husband has been paying taxes since I got him a job here 3 day a after landing. Yes there are a lot of good Canadians but this situation has become much worse and Canadians are masters at ignoring things. There is a Ukrainian flag flying from my cabin not a Canadian one. We are NOT the 51st state and will never be but I’ve been made to feel betrayed

He couldn't get the last President of Mexico to pay for his so called wall, then embezzled funds raised by US citizens to build it, then had a completion ceremony, which was a lie. What was built was about 10 miles of fencing that was being climbed by sun down the same day. His idea was to shoot all those who crossed in the legs or dig a moat and fill it full of alligators. Now he thinks that putting tariffs on goods coming in from other countries will hurt THEM, but it doesn't, it hurts us the American consumers, so who he really wants to hurt is us, the American public. Effectively he has now raised OUR COST OF GOODS BY 25%. The same stupid thing he did his last time around!

The basic lesson from the Economy. How did China become rich and have high technology? Thanks to cheap labor, American capital, and factories, we built in China...Thanks to Chinese capital and technology Mexico will be one of the biggest producers of electric vehicles..They don't need the American market. This planet has 9 billion potential customers...The right thing to do was not to put tariffs but to open an EV factory in the USA using Chinese technology and money and everybody would benefit except Elon Musk and gas and oil corporations ..BYD or NIO better than Tesla costs about 25,000$ only... Tesla sells batteries for EVs for 26 000$...The same battery made in China costs 7.000$ because China has its own lithium. We should say goodbye to Elon Musk batteries and import batteries from China or make a lithium deal with Bolivia as China did. We would have American EVs better than Tesla for just 25.000-30.000$.\nCustomers are paying tariffs and this money goes to the government...Adding tariffs on most of foreign products is the faster way to create the Great Depression as Herberr Hover did in 1930 when he added Tariffs on 2000 imported products
