I was really lucky to visit Toronto in 2000-2002 and practice some Portuguese and Italian. The first time, I came by train from Chicago and arrived at 1 AM. I was scared as I waited for the trolley on Dundas St. But to my surprise there was a young lady enjoying the late night and she even talked to me (something that wouldn't happen in Southern CA). I discovered that if was safe to walk until 2 AM in Toronto. It was really pleasant to explore Little Portugal, Chinatown and other neighborhoods. I remember that it hit the 30s with some humidity, but the reward was taking a bus to Niagara Falls at 50% off for being a student. However, I was sad to discover that the old transportation is gone, and prices have skyrocketed (food and hotels). It's not just Covid-19, but the corruption of thousands of politicians in NorthAmerica that have started wars and the flow of drugs and people. I would never think that Canada could change so drastically. But I still think that Toronto could be enjoyable ( what I really didn't like was the subway, since the stations are far away from important sites as opposed to Montréal that is so convenient). I still remember how Pearson airport was enjoyable to walk. But to see encampments like LA, SD or SF in Toronto is really sad. Hopefully, in the near future it gets cleaned up. You can't destroy what took decades to build and admire in a few years. Safety is always a concern in 2024, but Toronto is much better than CA.

I have talked to Mexican people in food lines and one lady said her mother took her over to a boy's home when she was 12 years old to sleep with him so she would get pregnant as a little girl and then they could get monetary assistance. \n\nShe told me she had 2 children before she graduated from high school and when she left to live on her own, her mother was upset because she would stop getting checks.\n\nI talked to another person, a guy in a food share line and he was saying he was proud to be Mexican but doesn't want to go back. I said why and he said because they don't get free food and assistance there and I told him so you are not born here but come here to USE our resources? He told me California was Mexico before and I said Yes but where were YOU BORN? AND. HE SAID MEXICO. And I said I was born here and I am using the resources as a citizen I have been granted.\n\nWhat if American people went to Mexico, never trying to learn the language and ungratefully EXPECTING A HANDOUT????? MEXICANS WOULD BE PISSED OFF AT AMERICANS.\n\nWhen they are in food share lines, Mexican people never say THANK YOU. The Old Testament law does mention helping the stranger and the poor and needy. I'm a black lady who also has feels compassion for these people hoping they get the help they need to have a better life. But I am against any type of crimes they may commit. But my prayer is that God would have mercy upon each of them. Jesus is real

I agree with each and everything that both the ladies have said. I am 52 and have spent beautiful 25 yrs in Qatar. Since my children wanted to settle in USA I am in US now. However I have a question for Smita ji since both her children are in Canada now who will take care of her and her husband once they are too old to travel. Also after 15 years the children will be busy with higher education of grandchildren. The friends and maids that are a source of happiness in good health won't be of use because they will also be old and suffering.

I’m 47 years old, black (Caribbean descent) and have lived in Canada my whole life. I’ve lived in Montreal, Toronto and Calgary and visited all over the country. Have never experienced any racism of any kind. Toronto and Montreal in particular are incredibly diverse. Not sure how you would see any overt racism in those places. I don’t trust this lady’s story at all. Sounds like she’s making it up as she goes along tbh. If her brother’s boss fired him and called him the N-word that’s an easy lawsuit to win… and it’s difficult to believe that ANY boss would be THAT stupid. \n\nThere are ignorant people everywhere without a doubt… but please don’t believe this B.S. about white people hating anyone who isn’t white. I'm a 67 year old white Scottish woman living in Canada , and I feel discriminated against, I am known as the woman from away. I've lived here for 33 years in various parts of the country. I am so sorry that this young lady is having this issue.

As an Australian, I agree they are on point. Including the very last bit about trying to bring in food. When I was at Customs one time, I witnessed a little old Asian lady busted for trying to smuggle in some no-no food. The officials were NOT nice with her, because she was being entitled, difficult and uncooperative. Can't recall if they arrested her in the end or simply confiscated the goodies. \n\nAustralia takes this issue VERY seriously. Make sure you check the list of verboten items before coming to Australia, or you may get booted out without ever having left the airport.

Ok racism definitely exists, and the doctors are hard to get, mostly we welcome immigrants, homelessness and drug use enabling is real, but most of the other problems aren’t that big compared to other places honestly. I always feel privileged to live here because I’d trade other things other countries have for free health care s thousand times over. I do feel bad for people that struggle and have to use their life savings for one surgery for example or spend $2000.00 to have a baby in the hospital. I lived in the states for awhile when I was young as well. I remember a white racist lady pointed a rifle at me and my black friend in Missouri when I was 6 years old, here I don’t have to worry about that happening to my kindergartener.

I think you ladies are way out in left field and you really don't know what you're talkin about. Unfortunately for some people it doesn't work out for whatever reason usually because they do not want to assimilate very well. I grew up in Ontario to a french-canadian father and an Italian mother in my life in Canada was so perfect said if I had to dream up a better life I could not have done so. I grew up playing all the sports and enjoyed all the different sports and the changes of seasons. My parents had a summer home on the st-lawrence river and every summer we water-ski swam fished, play golf in the morning and barbecues every night right on the water. Even though my grandfather was in the hotel business I was all about sports and enjoying everything about it. I grew up in a town of about 50 thousand about 40 miles from Montreal. When I wanted some great nightlife just drove a short drive to Montreal and it had everything did anyone could want in Nightlife. I have lived in United States for forty years and I can tell you that it really isn't all that it's cracked up to be. Heaven forbid should you get some kind of catastrophic illness you are screwed. I knew a woman who work for travelers insurance for 30 years at the best insurance a money could buy had suffered a couple of strokes and was on the verge of going broke had she not died when she died. People think that insurance continues to pay his long as you're ill and nothing could be further from the truth. This lady was going to have to sell her house to continue paying for round-the-clock care had she not died when she did. United States middle class is getting wiped out. I've seen enough poverty and hardship in this country to last a lifetime. I find greed to be running rampant in this country. When I grew up in Canada there was always the grass is greener on the other side and when I did move over to the other side the US that is I can tell you unequivocally the dead grass is not greener on the other side. There are more millions and millions of people here that are one or two paychecks away from being homeless. And we're talkin 2023. Now let's talk about violence. There is a mass murder in the United States every single day of the year. And a mass murder is defined by four or more people being killed by one person at one time. Killing these so out of control in the United States that now even six-year-olds are shooting their teacher. I find a tremendous amount of built-up Anger from people. Food is very expensive and shelter is also out of control and non affordable to most people. Again I find United States being able to paint a much Rosier picture then does really exist. And there are more con artists and thieves , Crooks, con-artists, bamboozlers, cheats and scammers then anywhere that I've ever been. And I will say this is it it ain't getting any better and I don't see it ever getting better. I find it is everybody out for themselves no matter who they cheat. I live in Southern California and I can tell you that night life where I live is non-existent. Understand that LA and Hollywood they always have to glamorize everything to sell it to tourists. Just remember that things today are not what they were 40 years ago. Middle-class people in Canada would also be just middle-class people in the US. But if your life means anything to you as far as safety and raising a family then Canada wins hands down end of discussion. People that say Canada is boring is because they are boring. That's what I found to be pretty standard across the board. Life is what you make of it. But I will say that you gals definitely need to move away if you don't like Canada. Do not let the door hit your ass on the way out. And just for your information Canada ranks annually as one of the top countries in the world to immigrate to. Canada is the second largest country in the world by land area and next to Saudi Arabia has the third largest oil Reserves in the world. Canada has huge amount of freshwater which most of the rest of the world seems to be lacking and having spent my Summers on the Saint Lawrence River one of the Great Rivers in this world. I wouldn't change my twenty years in Canada for anyplace else in this world and I will be moving back shortly.

600,000 old-style English/Scottish/Welsh/Irish/Christian/white people have left London in recent times so I read. Probably in the last 10 years. I love Islamic females. As a lady myself, we all get on really well and as a Catholic, we share quite a lot of ground in our two separate Catholic and Muslim faiths.

There's an old say from my country that goes: the cat whose belly is full, always find the tail of the mouse taste bitter. So the immigrant, like a hungry cat, comes to Canada for food( opportunities) and once his belly is full, he then starts complaining of the taste of the food. You ladies just named every single reason why an opportunist can't stay in one place. I live, as an immigrant in the US, and Im a physician, and I can tell you while the Canadian health system is flawed it is far better than the US. Your 8 hrs+ waiting in the ER is literally a standard waiting time...so please be PATIENT! ( just getting a little sarcastic here, i know it sucks!) 35 to 40% of my money go the government ( although i feel they take 50%) and life is not that cheap ( a lot of Physicians leave expensive places like NY because they can't afford them anymore! ) have you heard of HOMELESS workers in LA? ( some have 2 jobs but still can't afford an apartment and live in their cars ) things are hard everywhere, especially if you are an immigrant living in one of the coldest place in the world (btw nobody called you, that was your choice, so suck it up!) I hope one day, while Im still young, I can go back home to work for my people, and not when I retire and tired to have my people work for me, how selfish and opportunistic is that mentality! The Nomad life most of you like, is killing a country spirit and Culture and it's no longer feasible in modern society, since the lands have borders and names and inhabited by people that value a sedentary life. Happened to me once. An old lady was busy stepping away from me with her bag and was instantly robbed by the white woman she was working towards. After I helped her , she said sorry with tears in her eyes and worked away.

I have a 11 years old daugther in Toronto. She looks Chinese child and lives in Chinatown Toronto. 10 days ago she said that she is not asian. Portuguese family name. I wonder about it.

This happened in the US but I was working at Panera and two really nice ladies wearing burkas came to order some food and the old white guy cashiering refuses to cash them out because of what they are wearing. \n\nThat's straight up discrimination, I hope they didn't know why he wouldn't served them because that's horrible and he should feel ashamed. I've been followed in a store before, that was the last time I saw that old lady in the store. it was a respectful place and I think she was acting in her own and she might have done that a lot and they fired her. ( the store manager was black .. )
