Canada uses tariff on US for a long time. Why is it that when US does the same thing it’s not right?
|
| 2025-03-05 | 0 |
Trump mentioned before that integrating Canada into a part of US and it seems the plan didn't work so it might be normal to see worse tariff for Canada in the future
|

Well, if 25% tariffs existed, I don’t think Canada can do anything about it. President Trump won’t stop until it’s solved. That’s for sure!

American here that has extensive relationships in Canada. We don’t want this tariff war but the tariffs being implemented first by the Trump administration on behalf of US were punitive for violating USMCA and tied directly to the border defects. This was made known in advance and you repeated empty promises. Take your medicine and get well fast. Instead of doing that, you are taking an action that will beget reciprocal tariffs. Implement $30B and Trump will add $30B….add another $125B later and Trump will add another $125B. Heads up….America wants good partners and looks forward to being past this as well. In the meantime, we are prepared to pay more (or live with less) as we get back up on our feet. We have a lot of internal healing and cannot carry any other countries right now. Not sure if that was ever a good thing for either of us. Time to heal our broken ways ….sorry if you got used to our last administration being feckless.

If Canada has large rare earth deposits, Canada should offer it in joint venture to Donald Trump as shield to the 25% tariff imposed.

Canadians are Fvcked**. everything in their country before is expensive now its going to be more. US can absorb this tariffs and feel it after 5-10 years but canadians will feel it on day 1. while trump slowly lifting sanctions and trade again with china and rusia. EU and canada will have no choice but to stay in status quo becoz of their anti dictatorship and liberal position. US is very smart.

Blistering? Trudeau? Hardly. Petulant. Peevish. Snippety. Waspish. A weak argument from a weak leader. Tell me…why won’t Canada pay tariffs equal to what they charge the US? Do they expect an unfair advantage because they’re ‘less than’?
|
| 2025-03-05 | 0 |
As a Republican... I agree with many things our country needs, like tougher border security and a crackdown on the government. I do not agree with tariffs to Canada, especially them. They have always stood side by side with us. The American taxpayers will pay the tariffs. Globalization is to limit our opportunities. Trump needs to think it through.

Well we know what happened last time this happened! Canada traded with Australia, Uk and all the Commonwealth countries around the world which only benefited those countries. America was the first to bend and scrapped the tariffs in the end! However in the meantime let’s do a deal Canada ???

This guy's own people don't want him. Also what about the tariffs Canada already has in place against the USA
|

Trump might be able to sell the idea of Fortress North America. Ensures something like tariffs can’t happen. Especially with America flip flopping every 4 years, But he’d have to stop antagonizing his allies. The better America does the better Mexico and Canada does. ?? ?? ?? ( C.U.M) ?. It would most likely involve ditching nato. And trying to still acquire Greenland somehow. NORAD would be expanded.

You act as if Canada hasn’t been putting tariffs on American products for decades. Remove all your tariffs and the US will too. Oh and pay us for our military protection. It’s really going to suck for you guys.

Trudeau was right when he said it was dumb. The US tariffs are simply about bringing America to its knees and destroying America. That is why the country is being recklessly run. The idea is to destroy the American way of life and America. Have you seen a 3rd world country run. The fighting and the division in the 3rd world country? The events over the past weeks are not about efficiency. 1 worker doing 15 people's jobs. Who is running the government? Tariffs are one more thing to destroy America. US government federal workers all let go, paying government employees pennies on the dollars and lying to the American public about efficiency, farmers and textile workers that voted are stranded without jobs, social security being destroyed, programs being destroyed, Americans being lied to, Americans being taken advantage of due to poor knowledge and education, education being taken away and putting un-elected immigrants/foreigners to run/destroy America. Yes, the Tariffs are one more thing to put Americans in the street, turn off their electricity, take away their heating system, and make America into a poor 3rd world country. Trudeau and Canada are protecting its workers - federal and private and yes, all of Canada. Canada is United. Americans better find Unity like the Canadians are doing versus worrying about who voted Red or Blue.

Canada is going to have to consider when working with the US Military is a security risk. Trump at some point will tell his generals he knows best as he does in every endeavor that he knows nothing about. Alignment with ruzzia and now tariffs, this is just the start.

Canada is great eh, i'll be eating my $3.00 CAD eggs tomorrow morning with my $1.50 Starbucks coffee. Tariff away

How is this “escalation” as the commentary claimed? Canada is not even matching the extent of the US tariffs.
|

Spot on. I left Canada because of all these issues. Any of my friends who are still there simply don’t understand that there’s a long term problem that has nothing to do with US tariffs. The country is weak, poorer than it needs to be, and not in a good spot due to focusing so much on real estate and immigration.

Canada could consider offsetting losses inflicted by the new tariffs by reducing border control spending, allowing the USA to cover the costs.
|
| 2025-03-05 | 0 |
The real reason US put tariffs on Canada: \n\nCanada has zero nukes- so they have zero deterrence. The USA has 3,748 nukes.
\nCanada has zero aircraft carriers. The USA has 11 nuclear aircraft carriers. The entire rest of the world has 16, but only one is nuclear.
\nCanada has zero destroyers! The USA has 65 Top Tier destroyers.
\nCanada has only 85 operational fighter jets, but they are outdated and scheduled to be replaced. The USA has 2,740 with 786 being the latest Gen.
\nCanada has 82 Leopard 2 tanks and only some are third Gen. The US has 8,100 tanks and they are all third Gen.
\n2.3 million Canadians own 12 million guns, but many are low caliber and low use/capable. Canadians privately hold about 2.3 Billion rounds of ammo, but most is smaller caliber hunting rounds.
\n81 million Americans own about 400 Million guns with extensive capabilities and usability, including permitted full automatic. The storehouse of privately held ammo is massive in the range of 2 to 25 trillion rounds.
\n40% of Americans are raised in a gun culture and develop and hone their weapon use skills for a lifetime. 22% of Canadians have a similar gun culture.
\n
\nCanada has gotten away with having a weak military and saving enormous costs by not having to produce or buy military equipment. \n\nThe USA has never charged a fee for providing deterrence to potential enemies, and in fact pays Canada on a massive trade deficit instead. Canada exacerbates their precarious situation, by continuing to take guns away from their population.

Don't worry Tariffs are paid for by Canada I really do not know if he is so stupid he believes that or he knows and does not care either way it is so dumb and hurtful to think otherwise. The last time tariffs like this were in place was the late 1800's and early 1900's. If anyone know this time it was the time of the oligarchs like Rockefellers Carnegies that road the backs of the everyday Americans making them the richest people in the world. Notice a theme here, I do!!

Today is 25% Trump Tariff Day.\n\nThis was brought on by our own government.\n\nTrump explained that Canada treats the US unfairly and have been taking advantage of them for a long time. \n\nHere is a list of tariffs Canada Imposes on U.S.\nGoods:\n\n⁃ Dairy Products:\n⁃ Milk: 270%\n⁃ Cheese: 245%\n⁃ Butter: 298%\n⁃ Poultry: 238%\n-Eggs: 163%\n⁃ Barley: 160%\n⁃ Wheat: 94%\n⁃ Sugar: 265%\n⁃ Peanut Butter: 295%\n⁃ Rice: 150%\n⁃ Vegetables: 100%\n⁃ Fish Products: 100%\n⁃ Lumber: 20%\n⁃ Shoes: 30%\n⁃ Cocoa: 30%\n⁃ Metals: 25%\n⁃ Wool: 30%\n⁃ Tobacco: 100+%\n\nTrumps responsibility as the President of The United States of America is to the American people. Not us.

From the Midwest U.S, I support Canada and Mexico! We don’t want tariffs. We want ALL our economy to prosper! Not to crash them down! Otherwise, if we place tariffs, ALL OF US will be hurt. ALL COUNTRIES. ALL citizens regardless of income levels will feel it. \n\nRising egg prices? Just tonight (as of the evening of March 4) he blames it on Biden and the administration when he’s not even the president! I cannot believe we voted for a president who points fingers rather than taking accountability. \n\nAs an American, I only want to apologize to the world for voting for this bully (I never voted for him, but he won anyways.) I wish you all the best.

I wish I could say that America wasn’t responsible for the Tariffs, but unfortunately over half of my idiotic, hateful countrymen voted the psychopath into office, namely Trump. I am sorry though. Canada is a beautiful nation with lovely people.

Very intelligent reply by Canada against a deranged orange FELON. Tariffs are really bad for everybody.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Folks here are forgetting that Trump is putting Tariffs on Canada because of Trudeau - a far leftist government. If we had a centrist government, this would not have happened.\nLest we never forget that Trudeau couldn't even talk to the Truckers, ceased their property and money illegally. Hopefully, none of us forget what a dictator this criminal is.

Why is this Turd speaking for Canada? \n\nThe US tariffs impact US buyers. Not Canadians buyers. \n\nThese Canadian tariffs impact Canadian buyers. WTF!! The Government goes back to work to “add tax” to Canadians buying from US. Long standing relationships with the US. \n\nCalls the President “Donald”. What a disgrace. What a joke. Get rid of this guy.

The trade deficit between US and Canada is enormous! 420 billion from Canada to US, 65 billion from US to Canada! What's the benefits of putting tariff on US goods boy?!

Clown Trudeau refuses secure the border why's that? Is he getting pesos from the Kar----tels? ?But is willing to go Tariff war with US for refusing to do so? Who's the enemy here? DOGE Canada too Elon.

What Trump is doing is collecting money from these tariffs, while at the same time bringing certain industries back to the United States. These tariffs will not be permanent but will remain for a certain period to encourage companies to relocate. He runs his country like a business, he doesn’t care if there are job losses elsewhere.\n\nCanada and Mexico will have to adjust and start becoming less dependent on the United States. It will be difficult for Canada because we are a consumer country, we manufacture almost nothing. TSMC is moving to the U.S., his plan is working, and other companies will follow.\n\nHere in Canada, we import a huge amount of American products. We absolutely need to change our habits, we should not support a country that wants to see us fail.

We Love You Canada! We do Not support these Tariffs we grieve with you! I'm so very sorry! God Bless you <3

Shill and suck for putin bc hes scary but strong arm, tariff, and insult our closest allies. We sold out to the kremlin. Yall voted for russian commie sympathizing losers thatre gonna ruin our economy. Good job. Mexico and Canada will still produce these things, theyll just sell them to a dofferent country with no tariffs, and tariff what they do sell us. This only hurts and undermines america and american interests, it helps our allies and enemies while simultaneously furthering our allies and alienating them from us. Its brain dead.

From Texas, Trump is acting like a 5-year-old child. Canada has always been our closest ally; these tariffs are a slap in the face that will harm not only working class American, but it also spits on generations of close friendship and trust between our countries. This is lunacy. I pray for all of our Canadian friends and for all Americans.

Canada already had tariffs on certain U.S. goods before the recent trade disputes escalated in 2025. Historically, Canada has maintained tariffs on various American products to protect its domestic industries, particularly in sectors like agriculture and manufacturing. For example, under the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (USMCA), which replaced NAFTA and was signed during Donald Trump’s first term, trade between the U.S. and Canada is largely tariff-free for many goods. However, Canada has long imposed high tariffs on specific U.S. products outside of these agreements, such as dairy, poultry, and eggs, under its supply management system. These tariffs can reach up to 270% on milk, 245% on cheese, and nearly 300% on butter, designed to shield Canadian producers from foreign competition.\n\nAdditionally, Canada has applied tariffs on other U.S. goods over the years, often in response to trade disputes or to balance economic interests. For instance, before the latest round of tariffs in 2025, Canada had tariffs on thousands of product categories, though the exact scope and rates varied depending on the goods and trade agreements in place. Posts found on X also highlight sentiment that Canada has had tariffs on U.S. products like dairy and cars for decades, with some claiming rates as high as 25% on U.S. vehicles—though this may reflect specific cases rather than a blanket policy.\n\nIn contrast, the U.S. generally did not impose broad tariffs on Canadian goods until recent actions under President Trump, who introduced a 25% tariff on Canadian imports effective March 4, 2025, prompting Canada to retaliate with reciprocal 25% tariffs on CA$155 billion of U.S. goods. This retaliation built on Canada’s existing tariff framework but escalated the scale significantly. So, while Canada did have tariffs on U.S. goods beforehand, the current trade war has intensified the situation far beyond the pre-existing measures

it is more effective for Canada to implement 1000% tariff on Tesla and other Elon's product than the common 25% tariff on pan US products.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
You would think that Trump would not put blanket Tariffs on imported goods and services from UK, Canada , Australia and New Zealand as there is a common history and connection all the back in time to the UK.

Well, when one of the worlds famous American billionaire's ( Warren Buffet) TELLS YOU that tariffs are an act of war, perhaps you should listen. Trump is going to send millitary aid to Russia, and ask for Russian aid to annex Canada. USA- your sons and daughters are in danger.

Well if hes going to talk like that all governor positions are off the table for him...\nMaybe Putin will catch Trudeaus ankle with an umbrella end and ding dong the witch is dead. ?\nFunniest thing is he says prices are expected to rise for Americans . Through tariffs right?\nSo then he matches those tariffs. So i guess Canadians can expect the same old bs from him.\nBC legalized fentynol! They found a giant fentynol lab out there. Imagine how many more there are! \nCrack heads all over our major cities in Canada. Jobs are down, economy is down, human rights is down. But he has nice socks.

Canada blowing smoke. Canada and EU have always charged USA with high tariffs where the USA did not reciprocate. Now we will level the field. Do your research people. Canada needs the USA, USA does not need Canada. This can be all solved on tariffs if all countries do reciprocal %'s. Doubt that will happen.

Too late for you Justin, step aside, Nice speech tho. why follow others, make it 28% tariffs, we are different in Canada.

No more buying US. No visits/ holiday's. No stocks. Cant help but feel this is what trump and musk want, i.e. to have stockmarket get weaker so they can buy more. \nLook over there...(aligning with Putin dictator, Bullying zelensky, illegal firing staff, tariffs, accusing zelensky of propaganda as US fox news is known for it) whilst they shake markets up, risking world war 3 for multiple reasons. With the Supreme court in his pocket, the US is following Putins lead and becoming a dictatorship. The law is far to pliable there at this point. \nAll those voted Trump in and think he is making America great, you are DILLUSIONAL!\nHe will take you and your families down.. the young get sent to war, the old asshole sociopathic men sit by the fire protected. It took a very long time for Germany to escape the reputation after Hitler. You want the rest of the world to disdain and never trust your country and people?! Germany recovered, but it was painful healing. \nHow bout Trump sleeps out on the streets, deals with fentanyl addicted unsupported US citizens and veterans or get sent to war? Or what about his children or grandchildren?! Would he care if they were called to stand for the country if WW3 broke out, because of him? Trump truly is making a statement... he gives 2Fs about the people, totally self serving. For the capitalist bullies who love money at any cost..even blood money... non of your investments will make a difference if you have no heating, water, food, jobs, lost family members through war and crap health system... not an ounce of love, respect, compassion, respect, leadership in the US government. The World can be better. Choose better... for all that is sacred... stop the madness!!\n\nWell done Canada & Trudeau... love and support you beautiful people. ❤\nLove and Strength to the people of Ukraine around the globe. I pray for this nightmare to end in your favour. For your loved ones to be safe and protected and that you can be reunited once more. Love and praise for Zelensky...you are a phenomenal leader. May you receive the support needed to end the war.❤\nHang tight US citizens who wish a very different US .❤
