Although my parents were both immigrants in the early 60s, they both came here w 14 and 12 years of University and spoke 4 languages including French and English fluently. \nWe all assimilated very well w cultural norms and practices and adopted to Canada as opposed to Canada accepting our traditions. \nThat seems to be the major difference now, I don’t even recognize the Canada I was raised in. \nIronically, We’re forced to be accepting and inclusive to the point we’ve ended or changed standard traditions to adhere to that. Very sad.

I'm Canadian; lived abroad for several years (in Europe). I returned here a few years ago and one of the things I love about Canada, which I really noticed was contrasting to Europe, is that we are not afraid to be self-critical (even extremely so), to re-visit the injustices in our past, acknowledge them, and work to try to rectify them. Also, there is a strong sense of community: most Canadians want to help improve their communities and help our fellow citizens. There are indeed some serious problems, as there are in all other countries, and we hope to overcome them and improve our society by working together. For me, one of the beautiful things about a country, what makes its society really interesting and even attractive, is our ability to constantly recognizing our mistakes and faults and try to improve upon them.

These are Trudeau's and his buddy's friends in Brampton. Canada didn't punish the killers of the Air India flight 182 which was bombed by the Sikh separatists. RCMP and CSIS both did not act, Pierre Trudeau did not deport the offenders of terrorism carried out in India. Now Canada will have to make way for Khalistan in either Brampton or Surrey in BC. There is a great deal of favouritism by them. Canada must remove the chaffe and recognize the good qualified people.

People across the country are now calling it racist to only acknowledge and recognize the original Canadian holidays we've been recognizing and celebrating for well over 100 years!! They're saying we have to start implementing and recognizing other immigrant holidays... for human rights? Go back to your own country if that's how you want to live. IF you want to be Canadian, you adopt our ways of living. I'm not saying you have to give up yours, but you keep it in your homes, your cultural centres, your circles. You don't try to force our entire country to change for YOU. \n\nThis is what happens when Trudolph opens our country doors and doesn't screen, doesn't even try to keep balance. Like with what's going on with the immigrant student problem. They're coming over, going to school sort of, then getting to stay in the country and get better paying higher up jobs because they went to school, while Canadian students can't get the spots in school, don't get educated and end up working for the immigrants. How is this a system that works for Canadian citizens?? It's NOT blending immigrants in, it's letting them take over and have their way.

Cambridge is also being taken over. In the last couple years it has transformed into Little India. Every store the employees are Indian. All the people walking on the sidewalk on the main road are Indian. All the people on the bus are Indian. I don't even recognize the city I was born in anymore. Also 90% of the students at Conestoga College are Indian. It seems the colleges only care about money and are accepting mostly foreign students who pay 3 times the amount for tuition. What is happening to our country?

I wasn't born in Canada, but raised in small city of Fredericton since 10 and moved to Toronto for jobs and school in 2014. I don't even recognize my country anymore, it is such a big shame. At least, I had experienced a simple Canadian dream life back in New Brunswick.

What editor for the reputable BBC would even sign off on such a direction? \n\nYES it’s normal to see a drop in citizen application when the government made it much more difficult for permanent residents to do so. There was an intent there to naturally filter out what had become a burden on government funds and resources. I’m sorry but if you are living in Canada’s largest city [Toronto], don’t be shocked that cost of living is ridiculously expensive. The same will apply to every other western nations largest city. And yes Canada’s second largest city [Montreal] is ridiculously cheap, but good luck trying to get in when you not only need the Canadian federal governments approval for citizenship but the Quebec provincial governments as well where fluency in the French language is now a requirement. \n\nAt the end of the day, your education abroad provided you with tools and resources that helped implement your vision. It allowed you recognize the changing dynamic of the global economy, the bygone era of easy opportunity and progress in the western world and the significant leaps and growth that your own “developing” nation has made, allowing you to easily break into your own market with much success than struggle surrounded by red tape, by laws, bureaucracy, expenses and competition while balancing yourself in a culture with societal norms and customs that are unfamiliar and new to you.

Biggest issue in Canada is infrastructure. Canadian infrastructure and urban planning is a copy of post war American suburbia abd the results are that it has made housing impossible as the current rules basically has abolished any construction of missing middle housing for the middle class in 90% of Canadian neighborhoods for housing. Infrastructure and services in medium and small cities are nowhere near major city hub making big city centers expensive not even mentioningthe terrible public transportation they have ( for a G7 nation is an embarrassment that their passenge rail service is 40 years behind Europe) . In addition foreign degrees even from English nations are not recognized and it takes years and resources to get accreditation.

Israel is perfectly willing to let the Palestinians stay and keep their land. Israel only wants the end of the HAMAS terrorists! None of the border countries wanted the refugees at the very start of this. Why? Because they can't tell who is Hamas and who isn't. The Palestinian citizens have been terrorized and coerced into doing the biddings of these monsters under pain of death and torture. Just like in Yemen, the Houthi terrorists, come in, and attempt to take over a perfectly functioning state. Worse yet, they don't even recognize that they have become nothing but puppets for Iran.

As a career professional from overseas, what is the point of migrating to Canada when they don't even want to recognize your professional experience outside of Canada? That defeats the primary purpose of migrating.

Truth. Our once great country is a wreck. Our prime minister with the good hair is an idiot who has ruined Canada. I don't even recognize my home country anymore. Immigrants have been given everything that our Canadian forefathers worked so hard to give their families. It's beyond tragic. It's criminal. Housing and health care are in crisis to the point where anybody can become homeless or die waiting for hours in an ER for treatment. It's sick and sad and unforgivable that our government has set 4th and 5th generation Canadian individuals and families up for poverty and death.

As a PROUD Mi'kmaq Metis Canadian....You made your voice ON STOLEN LAND, you want special treatments the indigenous Canadians don't even have....you want to ? off about stolen land half way around the world YET oblivious to the fact YOU ARE ON STOLEN LAND....yikes. enjoy, don't let the door hit you on the way out. very nice couple... so well assimilated.... perfect english... and practically finishing each others thoughts.... I don't necessarily agree with their conservative politics... but their last stated reason which is the number one reason... is understood by me as an offense even something more basic than anything religious, it is pre-religous and core to any empathetic golden rule of humanity, it is a complete human rights violation... and I am afraid that at the international level no government can be formed unless moderates from conservatives and non-conservatives, can compromise on basic issues... but the core issues including the current human rights issue and current indictment of genocide, has no compromise.... how can we compromise on genocide? Not possible. Israel left no room for compromise. We are on the brink of a regional war in the middle-east... and Canada doesn't recognize Palestine because it is a Zionist government. Islam has a low standing in pro-Zionists countries. Why is that? We need to investigate. Ultimately we need international law governance to protect against genocide and ethnic cleansing, and illegal use of weapons of mass destruction. I was born here and im 72 yrs old. I love my country but i dont even recognize it from 25 yrs ago. Its like waking up in a night mare that just keeps getting worse. It breaks my heart to see this country turn into a 3rd world sh t hole. I fully understand why you would want to leave. I cant blame you for the cold. I dont love the winter either. I moved back to the cold winter from the coast and boy do you get spoiled on either coast of canada for weather! I just dont like to be cold. If I could move to the USA, preferably texas. I would go. In terms of living costs, its sad how many canadians dont understand that places like BC and ON have been pricey for a long time. Its new in other provinces to be this expensive and AB, SK, MB, QC. While some of those provinces are more expensive than others, they're new to the super high prices and many refuse to recognize how ON and BC have been paying these prices far longer then inflation right now, which isn't new either. While I'm not muslim, I am LDS and we are not a favourite religion in society either. We get chastised all the time and nobody bats an eye. I've been insulted by employers, our church buildings have been set on fire. I still have to explain why my faith doesn't believe in working on sundays (as employers want that these days). I think some religions or non religious dont want to recognize what we get put through too. Even though we can relate to muslims in our own way. My faith enjoys serving communities with the muslims, I have worked with muslims and many are just the kindest people! The first president of our church got murdered and our people got chased within the USA and americans seem to believe that this doesn't happen in their own country but the same hate has and continues to happen in my faith. So I can understand, we face a lot of rejection when we speak about our faith. I can understand in my own way how you feel.

I immigrated to Canada in 2010, and here are my experiences inside and outside Canada. I am grateful for a good education; having a Canadian passport opened up many opportunities in other countries to build a higher-level career. However, if I had known the amount of stress, health, and financial damage that I had to endure, I wouldn't have chosen to come to Canada. I would have remained in the US or EU countries where I could achieve even more without suffering to the level I did here. \n\nMisleading immigration promotion: The government-sponsored Canadian immigration program oversells what Canada can offer. It withholds information on the cost of living, chicken-and-egg problems like Canadian work experience is required to get a job at the same level as you are in, Canadian credit history is required to rent a proper apartment, Canadian education is required to secure a high-level job, etc. \n\nHiring process: I knew the Canadian system was not ideal for immigrants over a decade ago, but it got so bad now that even the born citizens are unable to survive. The Canadian government and employers lack a basic understanding that ambitious, high-achieving people immigrate to other countries for high-level positions using proper channels. It's ridiculous to see that Canada uses a point-based system to choose highly qualified personnel to enter their country yet expects them to pursue low-paying entry-level or labor jobs just because they have brown/black skin. At first, I thought having a Canadian degree and experience might help me get high-level jobs, and I didn't think how I spoke or looked would matter when I had high credentials to show off. So, I got my masters & Ph.D. from the Univesity of Toronto, which consistently ranks #1 in Canada. I have a bachelor's from a prestigious university in Asia and had a high-competitive, well-paid federal government job in another country. Still, none of that was recognized in Canada, and I had to volunteer for over 6 months, 10 to 12 hours/day, in a research lab that led to a funded PhD program. I worked even harder during my Ph.D. with many accomplishments, like 40+ research and leadership awards, internationally recognized scientific discoveries, and innovative technologies. I checked all the above and beyond in various domains (research, teaching, leadership, business, engineering consulting, collaborations, etc.). Yet, employers couldn't see past my race, gender, age, etc., and refused to give me the opportunity at the level of my qualifications. Luckily, I managed to secure short-term work in the UK & the US, and it changed even how I see myself. I was highly respected for my credentials, given higher positions than I applied for, and paid 3-4 times more salary and benefits. Of course, bias is an integral part of every society, but my race, gender, age, etc., were not as big of an issue to begin my career at the mid-career stage in these countries as opposed to Canada. \n\nHealthcare: Access to healthcare was another big challenge for me. When I moved to Canada in 2010, due to extremely low temperatures, I developed hives all over my body, my eyes got red, and I coughed for many months. The doctor said there was nothing wrong with me and refused to give me any medication. It took us years to get a family doctor, and we got one through my personal network. In 2015/2016, I developed an autoimmune disease, and my eyeballs popped out. As of today, I did not get to see an eye specialist as they have only 1 specialist in the area, and the waiting time is for years for the first consultation. Every time the family doctor told me that I had iron deficiency, even when I insisted that they should run additional tests and they cleared, they were flagged. The doctor never diagnosed my autoimmune condition. Luckily, during my short-term work in the UK, I saw competent interns who completed my care. NHS is poorer than the medical system in Canada... they are understaffed, don't have hospital beds after surgery, or don't have stock of paper gowns, yet the staff are highly competent and caring. Within 1-2 years, they did complete diagnosis by sending me to various specialists, completed eye surgery, and even found a lifelong condition that was preventing me from realizing my full potential. Following, in the US, the doctors confirmed the diagnosis of all the conditions within 1-2 months and put me on two small pills for life. It has dramatically changed my life, and I have even more admiration for the medical profession. While in Canada, I suffered for over a decade, and every time, I was treated as a hypochondriac and never given a single prescription. \n\nQuality of life: Big cities like Toronto are mainly affected by high crime rates, overpopulation, cost of living, low employment, low salaries, etc. A few months back, there was a huge auto theft, and one of my contacts lost their Lexus car within minutes of parking. Despite being a scientist, I have no faith in politicians or individuals fixing these problems. The salaries are not increasing, but the taxes and cost of living are on the exponential growth curve. The ridiculous part is that Canada expects you to pay taxes even when you are not employed or living in Canada! I lived in London and Boston, and they offer a much higher quality of life and pay. \n\nGrowth potential: No wonder Canada, being a G7 country, falls at the bottom of the list in innovation, equal opportunities, economic growth, etc. It has a decent education system but, due to its inherent bias in the hiring process and monopoly of certain businesses, loses talented immigrants and highly qualified Canadians to the US, the UK, and EU markets. Unless there is a dramatic shift in policies, Canadians, especially new immigrants, cannot expect any positive experience in Canada except for being discriminated against and losing valuable time and money by being there.

It is very painful to us Canadians to recognize that this nation has gone to hell.\nUnless immigrants come from war zones or natural disaster stricken countries, we are going to end up with a very empty second largest country in the world, and even though a lot of disenchanted new immigrants are leaving Canada after a couple of years.\n\nThe key word here is greed, that is destroying this nation. Even within Canada, qualifications are not recognized in Quebec. My power engineering 3rd Class certification is only 4th Class in Quebec, so of course foreigners aren't treated any better. It's not a big issue in Western Canada because almost nobody wants to move to Quebec anyways.

I'm from Asia and recently moved to Canada with my family to live a slower-paced and safer life. I've seen firsthand that the drug problem here is worse than it was back home, and they're being coddled with no plans to discipline or rehabilitate them. I asked my friends how I could defend myself and my family if a random drug addict broke into our house and stole our belongings; could I at least beat that person up until the police arrived? They said you couldn't because you'd be charged with assault. It's funny. \n\nApart from the crimes and exorbitant living costs despite living in a rural area, even Canadians who have lived in the country since birth are struggling to make ends meet. \n\nSome positive comments, Canada provided me with a work-life balance that was not possible in Asia due to the competitive nature of the corporate world. So I had time to spend with my family, and you don't have to travel abroad to see beautiful scenery. Canadians are also very accommodating and friendly, in contrast to where I came from, where people will not help unless it benefits them as well. The Canadians here are extremely friendly. So Canada is great because of its people, but I can tell you that the government consistently makes bad decisions about how to solve certain problems, such as drugs and harm reduction strategies. Another issue is that they do not recognize internationally trained professionals, which could have helped alleviate healthcare issues in our area, where we have many internationally trained nurses from the Philippines working as restaurant servers and janitors. We have doctors from Kenya who have to work as general laborers and in other odd jobs where they can use their profession and experience to help people. I am also an immigrant, but the government should strategically distribute us based on our qualifications. I chose a rural area because I don't want to add to the number of immigrants in big cities and instead want to contribute to the local economy by bringing my skills and experience to the pool. \n\nCanada is a wonderful country, and I continue to believe so, but the government must reward and do more for its people who are trying their best to make this country great.

The problem is very serious, on the one hand they let in people who are not contributing and giving added value to the country, quite the opposite, and on the other hand Canada has fallen far behind countries like Germany, France, Spain or the US , When bringing qualified people for specific fields, what is the difference, two things first, the ridiculous Canadian experience, is nonsense, the other even more ridiculous, the paths for recognition of all types of credentials do not even match the needs of the country and less than when those laws were created, they are completely out of reality, the paths were created by a person without the slightest vision, the aforementioned countries never ask for experience and the path to recognize credentials is easy, above all fast and practical, that is delaying Canada!! and it is leaving it very far from what it was, with so many good professionals who do not work in their area thanks to the terrible policies. \nThe result, true professionals go where it suits them best.

My immigration process took 14 years in total until I could get here, it was a blessing and I had a lot of gratitude to be here after living in a warzone. Ive lived in Winnipeg for 10 years, a part of me was always happy and okay to deal with the cold because at least nobody would be killing you or attempting to on a daily basis, with rockets and bombs. 10 years later, I was wondering that the only reason we came here was to escape war, and not find a better quality of life. You can tell me “you don’t like it then leave” but i find it disturbing that many Canadians here don’t recognize how bad the situation gets, when governments don’t do anything to enhance quality of life and corporates take control everywhere and raise the costs to unbelievable numbers. Housing crisis, most can’t afford houses or even rent a nice apartment. Healthcare system is a complete dogshit mess, people here don’t recognize the importance of how much this industry needs to be supported by governments and citizens because EVERYONE benefits from it and stay alive longer. I don’t know man, I only see it collapsing going forward, especially when everyone is divided and the aboriginal issues are a constant trend.

Even if you have degrees from another country, Canada doesnt recognize a lot of them and you are required to take courses over again by Canadian standards. The cost of living, the healthcare, and the wages which are very poor. Who can afford 2000. for rent when your wage in 20.per hour or lower. Trudeau is so out of touch, little rich boy that has no clue at all.

Sky high taxes, low wages, sky high cost of living, most foreign education isn't recognized, far too much immigration causing problems finding jobs that pay a wage you can survive on let alone live on. Racism, divisive politics, very racist police, selective policing. I could go on and on. Many reasons not to move to Canada and even more why we Canadian citizens should leave.

The Canadian government has not updated it's Stats so what New Comers see when they look up housing prices and labour market. It still reflects 2016. They never let those coming here know how difficult it is to get their credentials recognized or the lack of housing. So a Dentist or a Director from a University end up working at Super Store. Also, as soon as they arrive they are told these short certificates that they take will get them an excellent job when in reality it's a cash grab and they don't end up getting hired anywhere as the course and school is not recognized. Totally ripping them off. Basically we have set up a system where a nurse from another Country can't even become a care aid. Ridiculous how many road blocks there are. And then of course there's the lack of housing not just the price. (I am from BC so this is coming from a BC perspective)

I’d say the militarization of police forces is something both countries have in common, as well as totalitarian leanings. The judiciary in both countries seems to have been corrupted, with laws created favoring corporations. Both countries are heavily propagandized. In terms of foreign policy, there is no difference. Canada is essentially Americas puppet.\nWhen it comes to standards of living, more than ever it depends what city/region, etc. \nApart from healthcare, there isn’t much difference. Both countries have been importing large numbers of foreigners. This has only added to the existing segregation of classes, ethnicities, and cultures. Over time both countries have become more internally divided.\nFrankly speaking, I don’t have much hope for either country. Not when the world is increasingly becoming polarized, and our leaders choose war over rationality.

I live in Canada as a Kenyan and I have been here for sometime .I work as a HR/Payroll Specialist also certified in the field. The problem is not Canada , Canada is a very good county which I love and I am gland God gave me the Opportunity to Come and settle here with my family.. The problem with some people coming here is lacking of knowledge how Canada works .It’s system is very far from how things work in Dubai or Gulf countries. A lot people are thinking than you can just come and get any job even without proper papers or you can earn a lot of money and then build wealth quickly. Which is A BIG FAT LIE. The tax in Canada keeps you humble. That is how Canada funds it's high end life many admire and want to be part of. The more you work in Canada the more tax you pay and many don't know this, and it is one of the main reasons why a lot of people start to regrets, because they realize there effort of working hard is not paying as they hoped. Another thing in Canada is next to impossible to get jobs or rent a place without proper paper work, like work permit, It is not like USA where you can use someone else papers to work. the The main available jobs , easy to get , don’t pay much. And also the cost of living is very high in some provinces like Ontario and BC. They hardly recognize credentials from outside unless you came through a job offer. Also because a lot of things in Canada are paid by the government through taxes, like health care, education. Unless you are tax paper with (and I repeat) Paper work, you cant access the benefit, including thee free food available for the needy. \nMany people forget Canada is looking for people to work for them. Not to grow rich and leave. The system is meant to keep you working. Unless you understand how a system of a country works, one will continue to blame it. Let people get well informed and well educated first , before they jump in the river. And it’s not Canada a lone , but any country in the world. Also a lot of these media post about Canada are misleading. And there is also another trap called debt, a lot of people once they getting working, rush to but things they cant afford and it becomes a stress instead of a blessings.\nIf you want to live well and enjoy Canada . One of the top thing to do is, go back to school once you enter in it, get a good education and you will get a good job. Also give yourself time to adjust. REMEMBER you are starting from square one. You are not continuing where you left in Kenya or in the country you get from. Also, the general social climate is not as friendly as those in USA for example. Not many people are willing to help for free. The most jobs advertised in Canada are the lower end paying jobs, which a lot of people pay a lot of money to come for, just to realize the job they left behind was far much better than this, but no one told them that, just because it said $18 hrs and you converted it to your country and looked a lot, doesnt mean it carries the same wait once you earn in from here. The living expense are very different. The reality is, it is not where you are , but whom you are and determination knows no barrier. Anyone who will trust God for help, work hard/smart and be patience in life, they will make. It might take longer than they expect, but they will get their eventually.

As a Canadian now living in Arizona who is a retiree I simply love the weather and I have some wonderful friends. I prefer to be here and enjoy the snow free areas and amazing weather. That said I had an appendicitis operation on easter weekend. Even with medicare and a supplemental insurance I will be paying about 2600.00 U.S. I still have a totally Canadian worldview for the most part and simply have to keep quiet most of the time when it comes to discussions about things going on here. ie. Red vs Blue. I recognize that I am in a foreign culture and for example the passion for guns is a odd odd concept for me. Growing up hunting and owning guns makes me even more puzzled. ie. guns are for harvesting game. period. As long as I remember that American culture has some really odd things about it. (I draw the comparison to some nation abroad that believes in female circumcision or something) then I am fine. I tend to be easy going about it all and I survive fine here.

And my life turned upside down this Friday by illegal immigrants here in Louisiana. They ran a red light, smash my car, totaled it. While running from border patrol and customs. I counted eight people running out of the vehicle and not one gave two shits to check on me, even though I was injured. Seven of them got away the only one they caught was a 14 year old Honduran child that claimed amnesty. So vehicle which they stole, which had stolen license plate, and apparently was full of stolen tools all was seized. The owners will be lucky if they get anything back since it is being held as evidence. I was told by My Attorney chances are my insurance will not pay me in full for my vehicle. Also, I only have a few payments on my car left, and I’m forced to pay it even though now I have no vehicle to get to work, because all my equity is tied up in it, funny thing is I recognize this kid from one of the jobsites down the street. They literally beat me in a bid on. Mind you only buy $400 differences I’m having to pay taxes it’s a joke when you say these people take jobs and no one else wants thing is it’s not jobs no one else wants it’s jobs that have become jobs. Yes when I was living in Canada, I couldn't even find a general practitioner. Then when I finally found one, he was a guy right out of medical school who couldn't even recognize acid reflux syndrome etc.

These are called private institutes! Not even local students enrol into these! It’s government faults that student visa are approved such institutes ! These are unrecognized colleges ! Better go to university or recognized community colleges!

The re qualification process is complete joke why should people have to retake exams?Compare this to the EU , there your qualifications are recognized in every ALL the other countries within the EU. Engineers need APEGA membership before they can practice even with very high qualifications. The cost of living when compared to wages is another big issue. So yes people are leaving and rightly so the situation get worse and labour shortages will increase as baby boomers retire.

My wife moved here 25 years ago luckily she is a European trained musician, all her credentials were recognized and she is still teaching music here in Alberta. \nAt first she was very homesick understandably but.luckily we were able to move her aging parents here 16 years ago. They got treated like royalty by the Canadian Government compared to my Canadian born parents showered with benefits even though they never worked in Canada one day. I know this is no.longer the case for new.immigrants but on the whole Canada has one of the most generous immigration policies on the planet.\nI feel for new.immigrants it's a very rough transition to make but after 200 plus years in Canada I thank my ancestors for taking a huge risk in coming here every day.
