Canadians are not anti-American. But we take great offense when our sovereign nation is dismissed as just another U.S. state, ignoring our 150+ years of history and the sacrifices of our soldiers who fought on the frontlines—often before the U.S.—in WWI and WWII. After 9/11, we stood by America, fighting and dying alongside you in Afghanistan, just as we did in Normandy. Canada has been the U.S.'s closest ally for the last 70 years, and the idea of a fentanyl border crisis (until recently) is simply misleading.\n\nIf the roles were reversed, would you boo at a hockey game? We still ❤ America!

The United States has elected a president who is turning its longest-standing allies into adversaries. This isn't just about Canada. The entire Western world is watching. While the U.S. has the power to harm its allies, those allies also have the ability to push back, and the USA is rapidly losing friends who may not return. As America’s alliances weaken, so do the obstacles its rivals face. \n\nTake Australia, for example. Should it continue aligning with the U.S. in the Asia-Pacific region? Should it continue hosting critical American surveillance infrastructure? Should it keep supporting and supplying the U.S. fleet? The USA enjoys a trade surplus with us, but do we need to spend USD$50 billion over the next decade buying your hardware? The Europeans seem to be a more trustworthy ally, who don't make us a target.\n\nThe USA would argue that their presence ensures security, but the reality is that countries like Australia only face threats because they are tied to U.S. strategic interests. Perhaps a more pragmatic approach that avoids unnecessary antagonism with China would serve us better. \n\nAs for Canada, it will adapt and find new trading partners, just as Australia did when China attempted economic coercion. And through it all, Canada, know that Australia will stand with you—always.

Looking from Estonia: At the beginning of the war in Ukraine, many people could read the opinion that the Russians would probably understand and oppose their country's leader and his stupid decisions. This has not happened in Russia for three years, and if you look and listen to the attitude of American leaders and their voters, then such stupid, silent approval is prevailing there too. True, they are attacking their neighbor only with tariffs.. for now.

Trump controls the Senate, House, Doge, Project 2025 is in the White House, all the branches of the Defense Department, the Attorney General and his offices, six of the nine seats on the Supreme Court, and assigned over 250 Federal judgeships to the Federal courts which are a lifetime appointment. The ONLY thing that is standing in the way of Trump are the Federel judges that actually understand the constitution and do not want to destroy this nation. The fly in the ointment? Courts can issue an order based on the constitution or our laws, but does not have any way to enforce them if Trump should just disregard their order. That is how close we are to a dictatorship.\nWake Up America.?\n P.S. Sorry Canada! Coalesce, find new trade partners, and leave the United States behind. We are no longer worthy of your friendship.

I am a Republican leaning American who did not vote for Trump (never voted for him), and I urge every country to stand up to bullying tactics of Trump. I am relatively rich, so this fluctuating market or rising egg prices will not affect me; poorer people than me will be affected greatly. And ironically, these poorer people voted for Trump. I just don't understand it because if I am a poor American, I would have voted for Bernie Sanders because at least the guy has some integrity unlike most politicians. And I am sorry to say I would have voted for Kamala Harris if she were not so dumb. Even though I lean Republican in that my values align more with Republican ideals, I consider whether a candidate has strong integrity and found none in Trump and Kamala Harris.

We love America and Americans, but if someone attacks Canadian sovereignty, we will fight back. If the Canadian government invites China to invest in Technology, Agriculture, Automotive, and Oil, Canada will emerge as a different, independent, and prosperous nation. This investment could create thousands of jobs, lower EV and fuel costs, generate significant tax revenue, and strengthen the economy, as Chinese EVs are more affordable than U.S. counterparts. Ultimately, lower energy costs would decrease the cost of living and boost Canadians' spending power, attracting foreign investors to Canada.

i do not believe the American people want a President who will destroy our ties to the free World. the founding fathers of this democracy and the constitution would have placed Donald Trump and his cronies under immediate house arrest, stripped them of any authority, and taped their mouths shut while the government is reformed and the ties to the free world are re-established. This is not anti-American, it is just fighting back from an unnecessary trade war. It does however break my heart because many Canadians have family on the U.S. side. I know it would also break my father’s heart as he grew up in New England and had a lifetime affection for the U.S. I despise politics and have not been a proud Canadian for a few years but I have to admit that this speech is getting me going again. Canada needs to get its act together and rebuild its military, not to fend off the U.S. but to hold its own should other countries decide we are ripe for the picking. I want U.S.-Canada relations to be tight again. We’re neighbor. We will have our disagreements and that’s fine but these trade wars will hurt everyone and, if it lasts, may leave lasting grievances.

All these years US has a trade deficit of 1 trillion dollars every year. With tariffs we could have recovered 250 billion every year. That is a lot of money. Currently every American owes $110,000 because of the accumulated debt of 36.5 trillion.\n\nJustin, how long are we supposed to bend back wards while US has a trade deficit of trillion dollar over the past 20 years. Why cant to you balance the imports and exports so that you don't have to keep taking advantage of USA. CNN did not see the trade deficit every single year for 20 years? what are they talking about? I have never felt more proud to be a Canadian, it’s a good feeling, I was almost brought to tears earlier thinking about it.
