I was under the impression this was about not just fentanyl, but unfair trade imbalances.

For the 1st time - Trudeau did a sensible thing. This is literally a dumb trade war.

The comments in support of us are great - and I would hope that the verbal support will translate into active measures such as trade preferences, trade deals, military agreements and all the other things we will need as allies with dangerous bedfellows in this strange new world order.

Canada just needs to fix the trade deficit with the United States. If Trudeau does, the U.S. tariffs would not happen. Canada has turned a deaf ear when the U.S. requested a fair trading partner and less deficits in the past decades. Trump was obligated to put a tariff on Canadian goods entering the U.S. since Canada did not resolve the problem.

Mr. Trudeau, I’m sorry our government sucks. I promise you that most Americans don’t want a trade war, or any of these insane changes that are happening to us. Many of us are incredibly terrified of what’s to come.

This is about more than the fentanyl. This is about Canada not pulling their own weight when it comes to defensive spending, this is about getting them to allow Us manufacturered cars into their markets, this is about convincing Canadian companies to build factories in the US… etc Trumps tariffs are creating hundreds of billions, soon to be trillions of dollars worth of investments into our market. We hold the largest market in the world. We hold the power here, not Canada. And bitching about relations with our allies isn’t going to sway conservative voters come the next election. When we win this “trade war” something tells me CNN will whine about how we won it instead of giving credit to the current administration for doing better by our citizens.

Tariffs should be 100% equal between trading partners. In Japan, the tariff on a new American car can be up to 100% of the cost of the car just to buy it. (Why is a question for the shoppers) this is simply wrong AMONG TRADING PARTNERS…. Trump is doing some of his TYPICALLY STUPID MOVES.

To our friends around the world we appreciate and love your kind words of support. We also open our doors and wallets to trade! We got lots to offer and keen to welcome new friends and expand our relations beyond the ease of our next door neighbours. We love them but they’ve hopefully temporarily lost their minds. Canada and other countries had there opportunity to make trade fair with America. They have not complied. Now they are suffering the consequences. Trump will win. I believe America still has a backbone even though cnn watchers don’t.

I think finally Canada realized that if they have friend like US then they don't need any enemy. You can't trust US at all and need to start open your market for global trade. I am glad that finally this happened cause sometimes you need a slap on face to wake up from a cozy bogus dream. Yes it will be painful few years for Canada but when time will come for fresh water and Arctic resources, it will be payback time to US. Forget US and start shipping products to Europe, China and India. Make pacts and create meaningful relationships and let US do whatever they feel like doing because ultimately Canada is the 2nd biggest landmass in the world, 3rd biggest supply of oil, 5th biggest supply of natural gas, 1st in the world for supply of potash and uranium, If you include Great lakes then it has 4 coasts that can tie them with water so great opportunity to create best ports, 1st in natural source of water and 5th biggest agricultral landmass. Then why bother and put your energy into someone who don't care. Let US do whatever they like and forget about them. Just don't go to US and don't deal with US.

Trump was telling his MAGA Republicans that Canada is not a viable country without USA and that they subsidize Canada - Does trump know the difference between trade deficits, surplus and subsidizes??? I am an American and love my country and its people. But TRUMP and Musk and Vance are villains ?! They must be defeated. And they will be stopped. Wouldn't be suprised if the plan of Trump is to put maximum pressure and weaken Canada to annex them later on. Woudln't be suprised if Trump made a deal with Putin to trade Canada against Ukraine (or eastern europe).

If you truly want to work with and help our society in the US as you claim. You'd happily pay the tariff's. \nAlso, you do realize that you can open up a facility for the production for those goods in the US and avoid the tariff's. After a couple of years Trump and co will say, that Canada started a trade war against US. Just like they say, that Ukraine and Zelenskyy started the war with Russia. And now some uf US commentators are saying the same. It’s crazy. And there will be no way to get him to remember the facts. He and all who work for him are liars and half truth tellers. I’m not sure how to deal with this. But it is VERY important for all media outlets to keep reminding the facts. Just tell what happens, so there is a record. I was questioning PM Trudeau for his foreign relationships and dealing with Khalistan separatists and straining Canada's relationship with India. But this speech changed that perception. I like how he addresses the very issue. Crystal clear and a very matured leader I would now change my position about him. This trade war will really hurt both sides. It may help govt as businesses will pay more on sales taxes. But it will ultimately hurt the consumers, especially middle and low income folks on both sides of the border a big way. There are so many problems to solve in USA and he focused on this.
