Here's my issue with Trudeau ...you now placed your country in a position where this becomes a game of tariff chicken. This won't end well for Canada no matter what tariffs you try to envoke to counter Trump. The U.S. aren't dependent on Canada. So, what is your real endgame here matching the tariffs? Is that what the people of Canada really want to get into? Doesn't seem smart to me. It just looks like a lazy game of posturing trying impose some front like the U.S. need to back down from Canada. What a joke.

When I studied economics years ago were studied trade, tariffs and isolationism. Trade always came out on top in our simulation models. I don't like Trudeau but he is right here and articulate.

I believe we need to look at WHY Trump is placing tariffs and it does seem more than just fentanyl and a protected border. I read that Canada has had tariffs on American imports for years before Trump took office.

President Trump and you need to work it all out. As far as blanket tariffs go, I do agree that your goods and services, including tariffs should be mutually broken down to create benefits for all. Part of my lineage is from Quebec, and here USA. We all need to help each other. Laser focus to arrest and put in prison all drug terrorists should be everyone's focus. How refreshing to listen to an intelligent leader! i only take issue with him calling Trump a smart guy. Trump will never do anything but ridicule and insult Trudeau and Canada no matter what concessions Canada makes. The great thing is that Trump never had any kind of plan except to tariff the hell out of our former allies. Canada is very systematic about their tariffs against US. Can we have the Canadian President instead of ours? Both Canada and Mexico responds to the requests and demonstrate they are trying to be our allies and for some reason we still proceed into a trade war. I think there's an aspect of the tariffs where it's a tax that's not called a tax, where there will be reductions in taxes for the wealthy and then these tariffs are added taxes for the general population.

Tariffs bring in cash INSTANTLY to his treasury, so that he can spend it instantly on tax cuts. Any other income generating taxes need laws to pass Congress and will not produce CASH for years...

Not only is his trade war with Canada, Mexico, and China breathtakingly stupid, it also raises prices for Americans, costs American factories jobs, and isolates us from our allies. And just today, Trump paused aid/arms to Ukraine. Putin has no incentive to make concessions now, knowing that Trump has cut off arms to Ukraine. Our apologies to your Canada. We are fucked! If you could put a 100% tariff on Tesla, you'd be doing us a HUGE favor.

Canada has known for decades that we have put too many eggs in one basket - selling our resources primarily to the USA. We've had tariffs before and worked with them. Yet we still keep selling to the USA. This time is different. In conjunction with the tariffs, we have an American administration that is flat out insulting Canada. Saying we wouldn't exist economically if it wasn't for the USA. It's at a time when the USA won't promise not to use military force to annex land (Greenland) from a decades old ally. A time when clearly Putin is calling in his chips for whatever he has over Donald Trump. Canadians have had enough. We are directing our governments, provincial and federal, to finally, finally break from the north-south trade links. We need to establish stronger east-west trade links. The resources we have are wanted by many countries if the USA does not want them. It does mean much work within Canada. We need to get our AB-BC pipeline finished as well as the new sea terminal so we can ship our crude oil and natural gas to Japan and if need be, to China. We finally need to get out pipeline to the Atlantic coast finished so we can supply the UK and EU with our products. We need to double our rail capacity for shipping potash, uranium, rare minerals to Asia or Europe. Just as Trump hopes for a golden age of American companies coming home and building new plants in the USA, this will be a golden decade for Canada to create transportation corridors to get our resources to other buyers. America will have to look elsewhere for his raw materials. And we all know what that is - RUSSIA. They've already offered their rare minerals and crude oil. This is all clearly a well thought out scenario from the people working behind Trump to dismiss America's allies and trading partners - have us turn against the USA - as the excuse to open the door to Russian imports into the USA.

I genuinely wonder what a balance sheet would like before tariffs between what Canada gains from U.S. vs U.S. benefiting from Canada. I’m neutral because I don’t know enough. But I feel like that would be a good place to start before putting the last few months at the forefront.

First time I’ve heard Trudeau speak the truth. Although it has been Trudeau’s economic policies that essentially brought about the tariffs- particularly the depreciating Canadian dollar caused by Trudeau’s policies. Not to mention Trudeau’s admission that Canada’s border was porous for drugs.

Aren't the tariffs paid by the people importing the product, so doesn't this mean the governments are just making more money from their own people? Seems like they are robbing the people and using nationalism to get the peoples approval to Rob them.
