The rental issue because ON Premier Doug Ford removed the rent control limits back in 2018, since he has done this, any new housing, rental units, renovations that occure after 2018 the property manager can settheir price and / or is when thos renovictions started (after unit renovated and since after 2018 the landlord increases the tenant's initial rent more than what the city would set as their limit usually betwen 1 to 3 percent, But this drastically changed during and now after the pandemic years.

I'm brazilian and run a language school in my country. I've been to Toronto 3 times in exchange programs with my students. The first time, in 2012, I found the city amazing and incredibly safe. The second time, in 2018, I noticed a small change for worse in terms of security and homelesness. My last time in Toronto was this year, and I felt myself very insecure and saw things that I wasn’t accostumed to seeing not even here in Brazil. It’s a pity, because Toronto is an unique city and it has potencial to be very developed socially speaking. Unfortunately, I'm searching for alternative destinations to take my students abroad.

Not only in Canada dear brothers and sisters, here in the Netherlands housing prices and living costs are at least to say expensive. My luck is that I bought my house 10 years ago for a very good price ( 160.000 Euro's with a current mortgage of 519,00 Euro per month as the interest rate is 1,3% almost hilarious for Dutch standards today ) for a normal house with 3 bedrooms, attic, normal sized bathroom, garden, driveway for 1 car and on one side separated from my neighbor because there is a shed in between. Nothing special but now people will fight each other to get a house like mine. So conclusion: I can save some money to plan a trip to Canada next year or 2025, no delay anymore! Targeting BC and Alberta ( mountains!!!) is the plan for this trip as your country is huge at least to say. I like your vids Alina, really useful information and your relaxed style of presenting. I know several people who were living in government subsidized appartements, paying less then 300/month until a year ago. 3 people with their own appartements. They all ended up homeless because instead of paying their ridiculously low rent, they all chose crack. Not everything is the governments fault.

The medical treatment and facility is much better now in India. You can go to any specialist on one or two days prior appointment. While it takes weeks or some times 3 to 4 months to get to see a specialist in western country. And majority of doctors in western countries are Indians. Over all today's India quality of life and ease of living is much better than earlier years when people use to migrate to Canada ,UK or USA.

This is an interesting overview of Canada and its many issues. I would love to see a follow up video or two looking into these same issues but from a few different perspectives. 1) regionally - Canada is very diverse so our regions are quite different in culture, problems and cause of each. The major regions are: Maritimes/Ontario/Quebec/Prairies/West Coast/ Territories. 2) because of our diverse landscape different races are attracted to different areas. I have not studied this impact on our racism and political issues but would love to see someone like you do so. It appears to me that immigrants are disproportionately gathered along the US/Canada border and big cities, particularly east and west coast. First Nations are disproportionately populated in Rural and northern areas where resources overall are less available to all races. I would expect to find that this population disbursement would also reflect in our political leadership. For example more populated cities are far more likely to have immigrant own businesses and politicians, In rural and northern communities politicians are more likely to be white because First Nations politicians would be more inclined to work within the First Nations political channels where they can actually do more good for their communities. 3) The diversity that makes up 'white' as a race. It appears to me that Canada historically has been more inclined to attract 'White' races versus other 'colours'. We have large populations of British, Swedish, Irish, Russian, Ukrainian, French, Norwegian, and Polish to name a few. All of which have large diversity in their culture and history but are often classified as 'white'. 4) The massive impact the past 5 + years of politics and world affairs have had on the divisions within Canada. Personally I see and feel far, far more judgements between races, economics and regions than ever before.

I'm a permanent resident in Canada, and I'm on track to become a citizen in a couple years. My sister is a head doctor at one of the biggest and most well known and well respected hospitals in the US. She's saved countless children. And it took her 10 years to get her green card and additional years to become a citizen. It took me 3+ years to get my permanent residence and it'll have taken me 6-7 years to become a citizen. And I'm just an animator. \n\nCanada's immigration system is expensive and time consuming, but it's fair, has a reasonable time frame, and it's much less arbitrary than the systems in the USA. I have my fair share of complaints but I feel exceptionally lucky that the system doesn't feel like it's actively working against me.

Simply put, he is wrong to make this assessment having spent less than 3-4 years in the country, is yet to have the qualifications that he came with vetted so he can apply for the jobs he is trained to do, and is still a student. I can understand that due to his age.. (which I guess is 45-55) he is also hard-pressed to settle quick and start making money. He needs to be patient pay his dues and integrate into the system. Beware of the single narrative. He’s speaking from his own experience, but it’s not the same as everybody’s. I’ve lived in Canada now for 4 years…got my citizenship this year. I lived in Nigeria for the 10 years prior to moving to Canada, and I also schooled and lived in the UK before that, so I speak with a wealth of diverse experiences. \n\nBefore you move to Canada or anywhere else for that matter, do the following:\n\n1. Research the country you’re moving to…what jobs are in demand, how that aligns with your qualifications…if you need to recertify or retrain in a different field. Many people move here thinking “oh I was a bank manager in Nigeria, so I’ll move here and become a bank manager”. It doesn’t work that way. The streets of Canada are littered with qualified medical doctors who drive Uber because they didn’t understand how difficult it would be to be certified to practice here.\n\n2. Find role models who are living the life you aspire to, or who have made similar moves and seek advice or guidance, and learn what they did right/wrong. Don’t just assume because your friend moved here, you can also move here and live the same life. You don’t share the same life experiences, history or have the same network.\n\n3. Before you immigrate physically, you have to immigrate mentally…be in the right mindset to live in a new country, understand their culture and learn to adapt. If you’re expecting to leave Nigeria and move to Canada to live a Nigerian lifestyle with “owambe” parties every weekend, or having 4 cars and 3 housemaids, then you’re still living in Nigeria mentally. Even Justin Trudeau does not drive 4 cars.\n\nI work in tech, so I knew that with God’s grace I’d find a way to succeed here. My wife worked in a Nigerian bank, and was able to transition to tech after we arrived here. Our combined annual income is roughly $500k, and we both work less than 40 hours a week, and I believe God will continue to bless us. I have easily 20 or 30 friends and colleagues who moved within a year or two of each other, and everyone is doing fine and working in tech jobs paying 6-figures. \n\nDon’t be discouraged by people’s failures and hardships. With the right planning and mindset, you can achieve your goals in any country. Reach out to people on LinkedIn, build a network and ask for advice (constructively)…many like us are more than willing to help.

Our current crises here in Canada are largely due to recent, unreasonable immigration targets. I'm not anti-immigration - we need immigration - but some questions need to be asked. 1. Are newcomers actually being matched to the areas in which we have labour shortages? The short answer is NO. 2. Would it not be more sensible to increase immigration in ratio to our ability to build new housing? Instead of the total disconnect we have now. Especially if many of the newcomers aren't actually being employed in construction industries? 3. We've had labour shortages and housing bubble issues for over a decade at least; how did the labour shortage crisis and housing crisis suddenly get so bad? Short answer: they didn't. Unreasonable immigration took a shaky situation and pushed it over into crisis almost overnight. 4. Most of our universities and colleges are now relying on international student fees to meet their budgets. Most of them are now operating as businesses, including property developers, instead of educational institutions. (I'm a university prof - 20+ years teaching - I can't believe the changes I've seen in our postsecondary system .) Who is tracking the number of international students who are here 4 plus years and apply for PR after graduation? What is happening with the manipulation of statistics re: international students and/vs immigration? There is a significant statistical overlap that is not being disclosed to the Canadian public. I think he needs to relocate back to Nigeria. It's foolish to leave a house and 3 cars to face racism. Getting a Canadian passport is not a big deal. I got my British passport 12 years ago, and I am still struggling in the UK. The west is hyped. If you have wealth in Africa, stay there. I recently resigned from a top 50 law firm where I faced extreme bullying and sabotage from a racist colleague who would misguide me and report me behind my back to my supervising partner (I'm an employment solicitor). Id have to save my work on the desktop instead of the shared documents management system because of my client work being sabotaged. If this is happening to solicitors, imagine non-lawyers. I have recently set up my own recruitment company, I vowed to never be an employee in the UK again. Working surrounded by white people is something I will never do until the day I die. The only time I will work with them is as their employer, evenso, I am very careful in my recruitment, anyone with red flags doesn't pass my screening. I am working towards building a non-toxic workplace.

Veterans and homeless come first. I have a Adopted son who is nigerian. When I went to nigeria,he asked if he can come to to live with me , and he came and stayed with me for 3 years . I put him through nurses aide training , and he got a job and after 9 years he is going back home to visit his father, mother , siblings , and friends . I get so happy for him that I cry . I am so proud of him .

Many immigrants find the first few years difficult because of the job ethics. The job ethics here in Canada is quite different from Nigerian with a laidback background. In Canada you work for every cent and it has really worked for them and some of us. I have employed so many Africans especially Nigerians who thought I am mean because they have to work for every penny. You are not paid to come and have a chitchat at work or spend 5 hours on something that could take you 3 hours to do. I will say if you can't change your work ethics and try to integrate into the Canadian system please stay back in your country. I have also seen people who have been clouded with that high life they lived back home and find it difficult to Start at the bottom. Even if you are living a good life in Nigeria, Canada is a better place to live if you can unlearn some things and relearn other things.\nAnd is there systemic racism? The answer is YES. If our leaders treat us right, 80 percent of our people won't leave their country. Let's hold our government responsible not the north American government or their people.

Its funny that all employers were asking Canadian experience during job interview for a just landed immigrant. That’s big bull shit of stupid canadian employer. Our son (22 yo) was in a traffic accident 3 years ago. Heavy multi-trauma that necessitated 18 surgeries, the latest was 2 months ago. He still has complications that forces him into long hospital stays. If we were living in the US, not only the whole family would have been bankrupt, but he most certainly would have died from lack of fund to pay for his care. Being Canadians living in Quebec, we didn't pay a dime, and his medical care wasn't even entirely paid for by the universal national healthcare. Most of it was paid by the Société d'Assurance Automobile du Québec (provincially funded, single payer automotive insurance).\n\nEverything, including renovations to the house to make it suitable for a wheelchair user and so much other things he now needs has been paid for. All in all the cost of all the medical care, prothesis, equipments, surgeons (6 of them, diffrent specialies), multiple MRIs, scans, stress-tests, ect. is most certainly in the 7-figure by now. The single payer automotive insurance granted him a pension for life, calculated on the base of the salary he would have made in his future job, had the accident not cut short his university education.\n\nJust typing this to show a very valid reason why it makes absolutely no sense for a Canadian to move to the US, makes me tear up for families down south going through a similar situation, knowing that unless they are millionaires, they're probably going through hell. Each time we hear about the health care system in the US, we have feelings I can't even describe.\n\nEdited to add: Our son is covered by his father's complementary health insurance he has at his job. We didn't have to claim anything there yet.

Being Canadian I dont stay awake all night worrying if the village idiot has a gun and will shoot me .I can have a pain and go to a hospital without worrying if I can pay for it .I get 3 weeks vacation every year which I hear does;nt happen in the USA .My kids can enter their school without having to go through a metal detector .And I dont have to be told I live in the greatest country on the planet because I have lived in a few other countries and I wouldnt trade Canada for any of them .

I am a Canadian and lived in the US from 1980-1992. I was a teenager and I enjoyed all the places I lived there. Mass shootings were not yet common though we did have a disgruntled employee with a gun on campus during my time in college. No one was actually shot.(This was in a very small town.) I did not get sick in the US. I have lived in Canada since then and enjoy it here too. I enjoy not having poisonous animals in the area where I live. I don't like the winters, and every winter I wish we could re-draw the border and make it go north and south! I have used the medical system up here and have been very thankful for it. The past couple of years with covid I have been especially glad to be in Canada because I preferred our response to the situation over that of the US. Most of the people in my workplace were not happy about it though and I believe 2 or 3 families actually moved to the US once the border re-opened. They like the feeling of having less governmental control in the US.

I was born in Canada and studied here and it was harder to find a job in Canada than the US. Luckily, TN is far easier than H1B so I can at least work here temporarily. But if I wanted to stay for more than 3-6 years, I’d want to look at a green card. But because TN is non-immigrant, I’d have to stay in the US between applying for a green card and getting it. Luckily, there is not much of a wait for Canadians. And I guess given that H1B people need permission to leave, our ability to leave and comeback however much we want is a luxury (though you could always get a difficult officer)

Not entirely accurate. It's pro-wealthy immigration here in Canada absolutely. It's citizenship for sale. Not necessarily wealthy in terms of really wealthy (like Switzerland) but it's definitely citizenship for sale, so if you don't have money, don't bother. Newcomers with medical and engineering expertise can't get jobs here in Canada, in spite of our healthcare system being on the point of collapse and our supposed hi-tech push. Regulatory boards here have made it impossible. Estimates are around 175000 qualified, internationally trained doctors and nurses who gave up trying to practice here and moved into other careers. Ukrainian doctors, for eg, with extensive trauma experience and willing to staff our emergency departments have been told they have to requalify by going to Canadian medical school to retrain for at least 4 years. Same story in engineering. By IT, our government seems to mean low-paid call center IT work, moving the IT sweatshop racket from India onto Canadian soil. If you can afford to buy a business - I believe the total business investment was 500 000 pre-pandemic - that's another way in. Not sure if thats gone up now. So many of our franchise businesses are essentially being used as citizenship tickets. The big ticket item: If you can afford 4 years of postgraduate or undergrad university program, or 3 to 4 year college program - and if you don't have the cash, loan sharks in India will distribute debt across the whole family for decades so one student can go . There us a very good documentary by an Indian filmmaker on the Canadian college/University recruitment drive in India and its consequences. Several of our colleges have student enrollments at over 70% of the entire student body, direct entry from India. Additional problems like grade inflation, different education standards, and outright fraud on ESL testing also mean that Indian students are not well prepared for school here. Many do not have enough English to succeed in their studies. They either need to spend for additional tutoring, take a qualifying year or two ESL (on top of the 3 or 4 program), or fail courses. Universities and colleges keep the tuition though. Honestly our colleges and universities are staying afloat because of Indian students. They're being treated like cash cows - and Indian recruiters are scamming the system, taking fees on their end with unsuspecting students getting falsified documents, or being told they passed their ESL when they didn't. It's a national disgrace. I'm a prof here, I've seen all of this firsthand. Your data may be correct, but the narrative you've constructed for it is not the real picture.

This is crazy , wonder why the drug problem is rampant in our country ? Wonder why there is a 300% increase in crime in the cities ? Wonder why there is a housing crisis ? You are immediately enlisted in the armed forces for a minimum of 4 years .#2 You are sent to school in the military to read and write english . #3 If you refuse to swear allegiance and enlist ( you are not given visa , green card status ) nothing …you go home . #4 if you have a felony criminal record …you go home ….#5 sex offender ? You go home . #6 No money made here in the US being deposited in oversea accounts . #7 There is a limit on how much $ can be sent to the family of recent US citizens , can be lifted after 2 years of living in US . #8 No recent US citizen can hold any political office , anywhere …#9 Failure to abide by the laws in this country be it state or federal , you go home citizenship revoked ( within reason ) #10 No flying your previous countries flag or colors on your car or home . What ? Sound communist ? It’s not , these are guidelines for several countries , Israel being one , there it’s 2 years military svc , women included . New Zealand , Australia , japan , etc …….
