There was never a labor shortage, it was a wage shortage. Instead of allowing the market to adjust for wages, Stephen Harper came up with the TFW program to keep wages low. The liberals made it even worse. Tim Hortons never struggled to staff the restaurants, they just weren't willing to pay the wages that citizens required in order to survive in their markets. End this ridiculous TFW program and let the market correct itself. If a company can't afford to pay Canadians Canadian wages, they don't belong in Canada doing business.

At the end of the day the main issue is the Government used Indian students to supplement the economy at the expense of the Canadian citizens. Now in 2024 the Trudeau liberals still refuse to pause it because of the economic impact it will have on their corporate friends and the schools. They also subsidize immigrant students which incentivises businesses to only hire Indian students. Canadians can't find affordable housing or a minimum wage job and Indians are paying the price. I feel bad saying it because I'm not a racist but I don't want anymore Indians, or any immigrants at all, here unless they fill a vital need in the economy. We simply no longer have the housing or jobs and it's as simple as that. Enough is enough.

To undo the damage, we'll need to be deporting massive numbers of TFWs and the government will need to pay back the millions of Canadians for the economic damage inflicted by HCOL over the past 3-5 years.

As a FRENCH individual, I would\nSay this!!! WHY would you or even plan to come to a country that rejects you??? Why waste your money to come here???? Why immigrate here??? Lately, I have my older brother move back to France and my 2 daughters NOT willing to stay in Canada (they hate the Canadian education system here)! My wife wants to fly back to France and so am I and we will as soon as we can!!!! I'm Canadian, and left over 8 years ago. You couldn't pay me to move back. \nWhenever I go home to visit, I'm absolutely shocked at the prices. Although I'm from the East coast, I spent my last few years in Toronto. The apartment I used to live in was $1200 back then. The rent for that same apartment has now has doubled in price. Groceries are also ridiculous, and tipping culture has gotten out of hand (even though service has gotten significantly worse in many places). Besides spending more time with family and friends, I can't think of a single reason I'd ever move back. Even if I wanted to - I couldn't afford it! \nI've lived in 7 countries since, and have preferred them all over my home city. ?

Living Abroad good for money wise, comfort and affordability, example if you leave in the Philippines with $1000 budget for a month that's 42,000 in pesos and that's a lot of money, it's more than enough to leave a very comfortable life. $1000 in canada it's not even enough to pay a 3 1/2 apartment rent. I always recommend foreigners like retired people but still able to travel with little retirement benefits they get that they can rarely enjoy their retirement life but they can do it Abroad . The one mistake Canada made was to accept an excessive number of immigrants and students during a short period of time. This allowed students to work full-time employment, defeating the purpose of student visas. Why is no one discussing asylum seekers or refugees, which has made matters worse? All amenities, housing, etc., are provided to refugees using taxpayer funds. The money paid by taxpayers is meant to be used by those who made the tax payments. \n\nAll legal immigrants pay substantial fees and continue to pay taxes while they are employed, none of which has an impact on the economy. \n\nEmployers always give preference to Canadians with the necessary abilities over immigrants, even if the latter have higher skill levels. Despite having excellent credentials and expertise, I was not selected for any interview because I am not Canadian. Thus, give up lying and acting like the victim. Concentrate on the real issue. You are the preferred candidate for any employer if you are Canadian and meet the requirements.

I am a Serbian and Canadian living in Canada for the last 24 years. I love \nthis country I respect this country but my God is so much different than it used to be or it is me. This summer I went with my kids and wife to 6 different countries in Europe Eastern Europe and Central and have seen 2 alcoholic then I come to Canada I see thousands of drug addicts on the street. everything is overpriced ppl do not enjoy in here. When I came in 2000 Serbian economy was low due to the war now it is better and Canadian economy is worse so the gap is very small. you need to make 6000$ to live just ok and I do live well but there is always but. I call it a pressure cooker, I wish all Canadian travel abroad a bit just to realize that they were lied too and that there's a lot of bs. I can give you an example: Condo in Belgrade same size property tax is 200$ per year condo in Qc Gatineau 2500$ plus condo fees 400$ per month basically 7000$ wasted for what? no dr wholes on the street broken system. It will be for sale. I agree paying taxes on my house where I live but for rental property when you deduct all the expenses you invested so much money without any profit. the one that works and the one that scams the system make the same amount of money and we live approx the same. something is wrong there. I will live for many years to come but definitely not spending my whole life here due to many circumstances and expenses. Family values are getting killed and I have issues with that. The more I was pushed to change the more I went to church and believed in old fashioned traditional values. I have lived in Canada for 37 years now, and pretty much i feel Canadian with a background of turkish and i was born in Bulgaria. I have lots of options, i can get my Bulgaria citizenship and look for better opportunities in the European union countries or move to Türkiye, or settle in the village where i was born for a much more relaxing life with cleaner air and organic foods. I got 4 more years to pay off my business vehicle with very little mortgage left. I also want to know if we can get rid of the current government heads and if the new heads can turn things around.

Canada is not a good country to live in, there are many better options today, as shown by the number of Canadians leaving. You will basically live to pay taxes for a corrupt govt and you will not be free to choose the life you want. You are a lot better of in any country in Europe, like Spain, Italy or even Denmark, also better off in Asia, like in Malaysia or the Philippines, and even in South America, like in Argentina or Paraguay.\nMost Canadians ignore that Canada is bankrupt and collapsed, but it's getting worse and it will be too late when they do. I fully agree with you. The International Students, most of them have no manners and are rude. I use public transport. Some don't pay fares, talk loudly in their language either on the phones or in a group. They push to get in or out of the buses. They have taken away jobs from our youth, who are citizens of Canada. They signed on the documents that they would go back to their country after studies, but NO, they want PR. That was their intention in the first place. They are inconsiderate of others. They have no respect for others. It's just them. How can we say they are the future generation of this country, who also cheat the system. There are also some Indians, Muslims who have recently, I would say 10-12 years moved to Canada, do the same as above, including loud music in their cars, noisy cars, litter and spit, also spit red liquid on the grounds, etc., it is annoying. They come here thinking they can do whatever they want to do it's their freedom in a free country. We also see that there are scammers from Call Centres in India who have scammed so many innocent Canadians, including some Seniors. I'm Canadian born and raised. My grandparents came from England after WW2 for a better life and sadly the Canada that they immigrated to is long dead. \n\nThe lack of opportunity and the insane policies of the federal government has severely decimated the quality of life in Canada. I wanted to start a family and own a home, nothing huge or extravagant, just something to call my own and all of that seemed impossibly out of reach to me. I had a somewhat well-paying job and lived within my means and I could not seem to get ahead. I didn't own a large or new vehicle, rarely ate out and would always try to buy used. Still, I could barely save or invest anything. \n\nNot wanting to live in a place that just wants me to be poor, lonely and unhealthy I pulled the trigger and left for Eastern Europe. I have no regrets and while it has been a difficult and stressful process, it has been well worth it.

Many countries do not allow this and we have many who hold Canadian citizenship but don't pay their fair share of income taxes (because they work in another country) and only show up once every six months to acess health care services.

Im a surgeon. I came to canada as a refugee child I wouldnt be a surgeon today had it not been for welfare, social supports, affordable apartments for our family, free and excellent public schools, loans/scholarship/ bursaries and access to the best universities for education, and then loans again for medical school/residency. I pay about between 300-500K in taxes a year. I am paying back a lot more than my family received in direct social services, but its worth it for the life that this beautiful country provided my family and I. I hope the taxes I pay will benefit current and future Canadians. Our system is not perfect. if it was good enough to help raise my ESL refugee rear up to where I am today, the social support blanket is better than most places. GL on your move. Gosh I've been in Canada for 14 years. Trying to do everything by the book when it comes to immigration. Came here as a student, graduated from engineering 8 years ago and now working in the aerospace sector. First of all, Canadians are paying a high price because of this government that has been ruining the country for the past 10 years. Besides that, many serious people have given everything in their lives to legalize their status in Canada, through studies and work over the past few years, and now they are having to experience total scarcity in this cold country, without being able to return to their home countries under reasonable conditions since they have already left everything behind. And the Canadian propaganda continues to be strong, attracting immigrants from various continents. ??‍♂️

There are a lot more reasons to leave Canada other than the insanely high cost of living, which comes from inflation, a hidden tax, the higher crime or greater drug use. In general the quality of the people sucks, and what she may know but is not mentioning is the fact that it is only a matter of time before they institute digital mark of the beast central bank slave money in Canada. Then the government will control your money 100%, and will tell you what you can do or not do and thing or not think or poof, there goes your money. They are also paying farmers all over the place to stop growing food, because of climate change, lol, so there will be food shortages and energy shortages because that causes rises in co2, a gas that when doubled makes plants grow 50% faster. The ruling class in Canada has much worse plans for Canadians than they realize, and I wish people would be more honest and knowledgeable to talk about these things too. But yeah, economically in 10 years what it is going to be like in Canada will make what is happening now look like a stroll in the park.

I came back to Canada in 2022 after 20 years living abroad, and it's been a mixed bag. Getting a good job is extremely difficult as international experience is rarely factored into potential employers decisions to hire - even if the companies you've worked for are Fortune 500. If you didn't work for that company in Canada, good luck getting the same position. You'll be working in a junior position despite your previous job title. My wife is currently going through this. She went from Project Manager at one for largest companies in the world to junior developer at a small company. Pay is.......not great.\n\nI've been lucky with having a lot of support of family and friends. A lot of the clients I've started to work with in my profession came through people I know. I never would have got these opportunities on my own in that amount of time. It would have taken years. Nepotism played a big part.\n\nTo come to Canada, and start a new life without a solid support system would be absolutely brutal right now. I got really lucky, but my situation isn't normal. I wouldn't recommend anyone (Canadian or immigrant) to come back right now if they're been gone for a long time. The rent alone is enough to turn anyone away.

Canada is insane, over the past 3 years i have seen the housing market triple in my area. Crime has exploded and so too has the cost of basic goods and services. I am in the top 10% of income earners in this country and I have been priced out of the housing market indefinitely. I work in stem and i am lucky that i can afford a 1 bedroom apt. When i was a child my parents worked simple blue collar jobs and made average to below average pay. They had a nice modest home. Now even crack shacks are beyond my ability. How the fuck does the bottom 40% of Canadians survive?

If you or anyone inn the same situation have enough (A lot) of money, of course it's the smart choice to move abroad. You are still super young. But someone close to retirement and after living in Canada for a long time, Its not that smart. Canadian goverment wont pay you full pension if yu don't live for a minimum amount of time a year inside Canada. So giving away your money to the Canadian gov is not something that a lot of people are willing to do. Not after living years here and paying huge tax. But again you are lucky that you are young.

Canadians are paying a deep price for their naivete electing a self-serving narcissist to run the country. Everything collapsing in your face. Once the government changes next year, everyone will realize that the situation is likely 10X worse than they thought. Leaving Canada is certainly sad but good decision. Nah, you're not leaving Canada. At the very least, you're not giving up your Canadian passport at least. You are leaving Canada because of the situation in Vancouver, where you don't even live?? Nah. you just want to be a non-resident and pay less tax. What if you can't travel anymore?? If homeless people situation bothers you, USA likely is not gonna be your choice...unless you're doctor or something. Then again you're not as far as we know. It's funny that some comments said Canada is becoming a socialist country and yet other suggest moving to Vietnam, a communist country (yes it's still ruled by a communist party) LOL. At the end of the day, wherever you're moving to, you move there because you can be a big fish in a small pond, and you don't need to face problems that the native residents there have to.

im lucky even tho im broke, im doing okay compared to most Canadians... I ive in Burnaby a city next to Vancouver. I pay 2050 for a 2 bedroom & 2 bathroom condo, I split the cost with a longtime friend I only make 19hr but I can afford the $1050 rent and my car insurance is only $95. If I were to look for a rental today I probably wouldnt be able to... have to maybe live in my car or move out of this city. All I know is Vancouver so that would be really tough for me.... it sucks what Canada is like in the 2020s..... too much bs
