One doesn't need a house in Canada. You go rent an apartment and you may live. Of course, if you earn 2000.00 to 4000.00 CAD per month. Which is rather difficult for immigrants. Usually, your pay is 10.00 CAD per hour, which gives you 1600.00 CAD per month. Which is way too little for covering your bills. Government instead of building cheap communal blocks of flats is building condos. But the cheapest condominium costs 500K CAD and show me people who can afford it....? You buy and pay monthly rent, yeah 2500.00 4500.00 per month only to cover rent. Plus 186.00 for internet and TV, 30.00 for stationary phone, 45.00 for mobile, 600.00 for monthly food for 2, plus meds, dentist, cabbies, electricity, water, then you add toilette, laundry liquid, toilet paper, towel paper, cat food, dog food, then the bill goes over 6000.00 if you wanna live in the condo. You have always private sector housing where monthly rent is from 900.00 to 2500.00, which depends on the district and quality of the apartment. For the landlord, you must pay monthly and renew lease each year. If you have roaches or bed bags, it's a bigger problem for you. Not every landlord uses paste. They use spray, which is not a roach killer at all, and whole your apartment will stink for months. Private sector has thin ceilings and wooden floors, so loud noise of your neighbour's may disturb your night rest or cigarettes. Smoke may fill up your space. Beware when getting sick. Family doc is unavailable, usually if you have one or at all if you don't.

The housing crisis is happening everywhere. The only reason I am okay is I bought my own house in Hamilton 20 years ago, and it is paid off. Nothing is grandfathered for newcomers -- they are the ones stuck with paying very high prices for housing, so they better get used to living in overcrowded conditions eg 3 working people sharing a one bedroom apartment.

Please do your research before moving to Canada or re-locating to another province. The grass IS NOT always greener on the OTHER SIDE. Toronto is a VERY EXPENSIVE city to live in. Australia is suffering the exact same problems no housing, price of everything rising, immigrants complaining. Government wanted to increase it's tax base straight away and didn't have the patience to actually plan around the highest immigration numbers in history. And make no mistake that wasn't an accident. I think the best part about Canada that you can't find anywhere else is the people and the landscape. Everyone here is so friendly and willing to help their neighbor. I find when I travel, the world feels much colder than here. Unfortunately it's all these amazing people who are suffering to no fault of their own. I haven't been to a doctor since I moved to Quebec (Born and raised Albertan) and I think it's among the worst of the provinces in terms of healthcare and infrastructure and considering it's the highest taxes in all the provinces. Luckily in Quebec City though it's still very affordable (relative to the rest of the country) but the housing market is still getting expensive here very fast. in 2020 my friend bought an apartment for 300k and within 4 years it's easily almost doubled in value for no reason other than inflation in the market. I love this country but indeed things need to change

I just visited and too many homeless people it made the visit unbearable. It was a snow storm and saw people laying in the snow. Very sad. Every hotel was full and over priced I had to stay in an apartment complex converted into a hotel. $1000 Canadian dollars for a 2 room for a night was excessive. Canada needs to do better

No, as a Canadian the system is falling apart. Trudeau is importing what he hopes are votes because of how terrible he is. This will not work out well since it is the cities where he has all his voters and it is the cites where the problems will only be. Every apartment rental price pre Nov 2018 was Rent controlled but after that date all Rents could be raised by landlords as much as they wanted. Prices in rentals doubled and even trippled.

This can be isolating and it’s even isolating as those from Toronto eventually leave dreaming of staying in one spot and not forced to move constantly when a landlord investor sells every house you move into. \n\n\nToronto really needs to protect affordability of housing for at least some housing in every section so that people can save money if they live in the city, and not have to leave their communities and be far from their friends and family. \n\notherwise eventually people get sick of the hustle and it’s too tiring to travel 1+ hrs each way to visit someone during Monday to Friday. \n\n20 years ago any professional could at least buy a condo. Not today. I think everyone is missing the point here. I Don’t support Israel’s retaliation, but I wondered why the Arab world has not taken in a single refugee. Poland didn’t condone Russia’s attack by taking in hundreds of thousands Ukrainian refugees. If Egypt, jordan, Quatar, to name the immediate Arab Neighbors would rally together to get the women and children out of harms way, surely the outcome would be better for these poor people. \n\nSadly this is not the case and it appears as though this conflict will never find a solution, as long as both parties are not able to set aside their millennia aged quarrel, acknowledge each other’s deep roots and belonging to the same land, and accept that they both come from the exact same bloodline. Fortunately, our moms, the only adults in the our community, looking back, people would just pick a side and watch as go at each other, than pull us off each other, would come stomping out of the house grab each one of us by our ears, gives us a good smack in the back our heads and sit us down, look each one of us straight in the eye, and say something like, “cut it out, you two are family, more brothers than cousins” they would demand that we both go hug it out, have a bath, if we managed to do that peacefully then we were allowed to partake in dessert that evening or allowed to stay up a little later watching tv, or whatever . My point with this overtly personal analogy is that both the Palestinian and the Israeli sides should be dragged off each there by their figurative ears pulled, sat down, scolded and reminded of their ancestrial ties to each other and to the very same land. \n\nBe honest with yourselves, some how amongst all this hate, vitriol, unnecessary death of innocent lives, are you, and those you rally with be truly ok with your opposing side coexisting harmoniously beside each other? If the answer to this question is no, the other side can not have any claim to this land and needs to be removed to god knows where, if not off the earth all together then it’s your people, not mine, that are doomed. And as an outsider, I think it’s is important that pressure be applied to both sides to put their weapons down. This is very true. I am an Austrian citizen that tried to immigrate into Canada from 2021-2023, I worked my ass off, working 2 jobs for most of my stay and living as cheaply as possible. I still burned through all my savings and a significant amount of money my family sent me to help out. I had an accident and waited for hours for an ambulance to show up, they transported me to a different city because in this town none of the two hospitals had a fucking X-Ray machine. Then the next morning the hospital in the other city kicked me out again, with a fucked up back, because there were no beds available. Had to call my neighbours to come pick me up again (thank you Tracy, love you) because I couldn't get home anymore. Lost one of my jobs thanks to this and started a different one, couldn't afford live in BC anymore and moved to Winnipeg because I heard live there is cheaper. It is, but not significantly so, but you pay for this by living in terrible conditions. Rent was still high, salary was shit, the public transport system is.... Existent but not reliable and the city is so incredibly dirty. There's garbage everywhere. Between my apartment and the nearest dollar store was one garbage can and that was a 20-30 minute walk, here in Vienna there's garbage cans everywhere and thanks to them the city is cleaner. \n\nAnyways, I gave up on moving to Canada and came home. Still dealing with my fucked up back (though it's getting better thanks to Physio and a good doctor) and the debt I accrued in the last few years. But my apartment costs less than half for the same size, my job earns me significantly more money, my phone plan is better and costs less than half and the food is both much much cheaper and much much better. \n\nI am happy with life now. Thank you Canada for showing me how bad even other parts of the developed world are, I really learned to appreciate Austria while I was away.

I’m a Canadian who lived in Toronto during and after the pandemic (and now moved abroad). The city is not what it was when I was a kid. Completely run down, escalated crimes, homelessness outside my apartment building. Also many immigrants are given more opportunities to fill company’s quota of diversity. Good journalism on this video, thank you for showing the real Toronto. Many foreigners think Canada is a dream country and it’s simply not. Canadians are struggling in our own country, it’s just sad.

I just moved up north Ontario from Orangeville Ontario area and rent up here is cheap and I moved to a bush last year due to homelessness and now CMHA helped me get a place and in this small town I'm in that's falling apart, is now a meth city and it was a huge gold booming town. I got 6 meth dealers on my street lol when the snow leaves I'm back to my bush the CMHA (Canadian mental health association) bought me a 800$ generator and a 200$ rain barrel so I can go live in the trailer again so other homeless can get my apartment

we need to take into considerations, these opinions are from a few people... Immigration is just 1 factor that affects services and housing provided by the government. But in all reality a lot of this is more politics, business. If the government supplied affordable housing (apartments with 1000 units at affordable rates with a low/medium standard) and a person had the choice to rent from subsidized program or an investors condo (mid/high standard), than investors renting their units would have a base rental price to compete with, giving the government control (hopefully in the interest to the majority). IMO! immigration is very important to Canada and we are in trouble without it...

Here in Moncton New Brunswick its been getting bad over the past few years with homeless camps, yet they are building huge apartment buildings on every possible place they can find space but those are all going to all the immigrants and people moving out here from Quebec and Ontario. I'm a school bus driver and just on Monday while driving my students, there was a group of homeless trying to resuscitate a guy on the sidewalk who looked completely dead with a purple face and this happened maybe 50ft from a local foodbank. They all walk like they are zombified and bent/knelt over. Thanks to woke mayor's and their sanctuary cities we are seeing this crap and to Trudeaus and his Liberal governments immigration policies.

Needed is a General Canadian Census of everybody, immigrants and homeless tent and vehicle dwellers so that a current population count is obtained. Next, build density apartments to house everybody, not luxury condos or apartments that are overpriced. Bring back the rent cap to Canada under control of the Federal Housing Minister.

I was moving back to Edmonton in October 2023 and the vacancy rate was 0.0001% the apartment I got, if i did not take it (the area is so rough) I would have had to stay with a friend and hoped and prayed that in November more people were moving so something else could/would become available. \n\nThen I talked to everyone in this building. Once the 1 year lease is up they months rent 250$ so they suck you into a an apartment where homeless are sleeping in the laundry room smoking meth for $1000 and then up the rent to 1250$ and the area is like the ones you were exploring. If anyone knows Edmonton it’s a block off 118 ave or Alberta Avenue. And I work at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (inner city) it’s heart breaking ?. It was always bad but since moving to the country in 2020 and coming back late 2023 the decline is devastating. Even a very close friend of mine went from packing her kids lunches, working casually (when they needed) as a janitor at Edmonton public school board to staying at salvation Army and it getting full to living in Tent City. She had to make her way to Calgary for shelter. ?

If Canada have back door for international students, they should have resources for homeless-especially single homeless-to afford the rent or own apartment. For example, single Canadian should be half interest rate than partner if they have RRSP, and people if they can't afford the rental fee, gov should be paired the roommates for them to rent a place for a tempare home. And the job marketing should be do more for that, gov can give a little bit taxes benefit for they hire the people are homeless and getting help from gov in the first year. \nAnd gov should be provide more NGO to support the relationship consulting to Canadian for to know how to easy and healthy into their relationship (marriage or family). You don't normally rent a $2600 2-Bedroom Apartment on your own in Toronto. You share and split. Despite that, and 2 people making each $50,000 a year - tax, it is a bit hard to make ends meet. You need money to enjoy life, just like in those crazy expensive American cities. And you shouldn't be spending more than 40% of your income on rent. There are ways of saving but buying a home in Toronto is unaffoardable. Better think of Kingston, Ottawa, Brockville... where it is way cheaper with some good paying jobs sometimes depending what your field of expertise is.

need to close the borders. there is NO room. you can not find an apartent anywhere there are line ups at viewings. hotels and motels filed with foreigners while Canadians sleep in tent citys. there had never been a tent encampment in newfoundland before now. its full of locals while the super 8, holiday in and other hotel/motels are filled with foreigners on the tax payers dollar.

The guy at 17:30 is telling the truth. I've heard endless stories about not being able to get hotels in GTA for as far out as 1.5 hours away and even in small towns like north bay becuz refugees r living in them or booking the rooms before they even land. Apartments are a whole another story.

Canada is falling apart, Trudeau is seeking to make it non democratic and to remove freedom of speech for those he does not agree with. Taxes are high with not enough returned to the bulk of tax payers. We will be a developing world country soon.
