Unless the guys went in at the same time, this isn't completely fair to those clerks either. You don't know if the store manager just announced a contest to see who could ring the most sales. Or if the clerks were told that there were secret shoppers coming in so to make sure you greet everyone. Or, a manager who's just an a-h who has a burr under his saddle about everyone being greeted & helped. God help you if one of his friends comes in & you're the only one that didn't say something. And that survey? Totally stilted! You can make any survey say anything you want or nothing at all. If it doesn't take all of a person's life experience into it, it means nothing. The apt. thing? The 1st guy stood back from the desk & directed his question towards someone at the back of the office. The 2nd guy walked up as she was clearing her desk & she greeted him in a friendly way & the 3rd guy looked as if he walked right up to the desk & leaned in. So, where's the problem? Maybe on the way the guys presented themselves? This is typical media stirring the pot.

Ya know what if a black man, China man or anybody else didn’t want me in there store no matter the reason I would take my business elsewhere. It’s his store he should have the right to say who can and cannot come into their house. But would make sure it went viral so he lost a lot of business, even if he was my color I wouldn’t put up with it. Funny enough this happened in Australia, we had an detention center that was over flowing with them so the Government actually paid a hotel to put them up wasn't far from my home, they even tried to keep it quiet as they didn't want the public to know.

So he lived in America for 15 years or longer and never bothered learning our language or at least trying to learn our language. I had a girlfriend came from Mexico and didn't know any English she put herself through college she had an English book and a book in Spanish and that's how she taught herself English was by taking English only classes and then going home and reading the books in both English and Spanish to understand . So don't tell me it can't be done because it can if you have the desire to become part of the fabric of America and learn our language of English

Non-citizens have no right to sneak into to any other nation... why is this a difficult concept for some? Just like Canada, go to an official POE and go through the official process. This doesn't guarantee one status, but it at least doesn't make you a criminal... and to those who shout that illegals didn't know... total BS... most of their own home nations are more strict than the US and/or Canada on illegal border crossings, many of them shooting first and asking questions later...

Even if they do try to do it the legal way sometimes they are not granted with any type of visa or green card. The government can deny their application for many reasons. So they end up crossing the border illegally. As well it is cheaper to cross the border than to apply for a visa or some sort of legal document. Many of these “lawbreakers” you suggest to be in jail have tired to do everything the legal way but it didn’t work out. Immigrants risk their lives and their love ones to have a better life, to be able to work to be able to have things that it’s impossible to have in their country. They are innocent people with dreams and hopes I don’t know why ya are so quick to judge. Try to put yourself in their place, and try to be open minded and listen.

These people heard Trudeau speak about open arms at the height of the Syrian refugee crisis. I don't remember his exact words but I'm sure he didn't mean come one, come all, forever and ever. Every country has immigration restrictions and it's sad that people who are uneducated or don't speak multiple languages don't have the resources to research their best options. This is where international, or bilateral assistance programs between countries need to help each other. Hell, I live in U.S., well educated, 64 yrs old and don't know specifically what our immigration laws are!

I'll lay it out for you: Me: typical middle of the road liberal oriented Canadian. Non white, immigrant (I wasnt born here) I worked in a Refugee housing for over 4 years in Ontario. Most were not war areas refugees (Yes I know there are other types of refugees). I only encountered few refugees from war areas. ONLY 1 person from Iraq, about 2 families were from Afghanistan, 1 couple from Pakistan(I doubt they were real refugees they spoke fluent English, maybe political refugee), and a most from African countries. Its too far for real refugees to get here. Its Easier for them to go to other countries nearby or Europe. MOST SEEM TO BE ECONOMIC REFUGEES. Most were coming from Africa. Some are coming from Latin America, which shouldn't be happening. Once they showed up at our doorstep and we processed them into the system, they were immediately in the same class as a Canadian resident homeless person if they were making a refugee claim. We get money to house and feed them (from the government), and they are given a stipend for basics from the government processed through the Social Assistance/ Welfare system (they get less than a resident/citizen I think.). They then have to get their case processed by the refugee board, and most seem to get in. I've only heard of few getting sent back. One person I know at our facility, was given a subsided social housing apartment after a year in our facility. So they went straight from a shelter to a government/city owned subsidized apartment. (Didn't seem like it was a issue for the housing worker...they didn't report it (if they were not the ones that helped the person to get it), they were white, the housed person was Latin. This refugee claimant, and then month or two new Canadian resident person was given an apartment in a prime area of the city, instead of the 1000's of Canadians, those who came before them, and born Canadian citizens on an extremely long waiting list. How this was allowed to happen I don't know. The person was probably sucking on someone's straw. I'm just trying to think the barriers these people have to go through to get a job here. We are far removed from the time of the 80's and 90's., and housing and jobs are so hard to get. Lol the "Canadian government asks them to repay the traveling cost to Canada if they are sent back"....I wonder how much the government recoups?.....more like 0 probably. What a bunch of crap. How do you demand someone to repay their flight cost when they get back to their country?

I agree with a lot of the things said in the comments. He didn't properly look into what is required for refugee status and came illegally so shouldn't receive preferential treatment. However, his not speaking English...where could he go to learn as an illegal immigrant? And likely he had to work long hours to save money for lawyers, etc. The language thing to me seems a bit harsh. He may even know passable English, but the reporters may have wanted the interviews to go more smoothly and so spoke in his native language.

growing up in canada, i felt left out in the blk community b/c i am a 5th generation blk cdn on mom's side and 3rd on my dad's - when other black ppl not canadian born met me - i tell them i'm cdn, but i always used to get the question - where are you really from - they were looking for me to say the islands - when i told them my paternal grandma was born in 1901 in canada - that's when the questions stopped. i've been told that b/c i wasn't from the islands, i had no culture in college, but a mbr of the black student society put him in his place i heard he got into a lot of trouble. i was asked what do we eat as in food as canadians what kind of music do we listen to - at our blk canadian weddings, the only carribean song played was hot hot hot by arrow - we played straight up r and b and motown. i hv been rejected by other blk men b/c i'm not west indian enough...it was hurtful. even with 'friends' they made of my cdn heritage but i used to think, why are you making fun of me knowing that my family and ancestors were in canada first - they were 1st generation - i live in the usa now and i'm with an african american man - he has never treated me as if i were different and he loves going w/me to canada. my parents told me it was jealousy on those ppl's parts - one guy i used to be friends with in college, when i went to his house, his mom was from the islands, when she met me - she said, 'you cdn ppl are loud' and that did it for me - i didn't date her son but when he met my parents, they never said any of that crap to him. in the usa, the african americans don't treat differently at all - my ex mom in law thought we were american but decided to live in canada - b/c she was surprised that blacks do live in canada. her other daughter in law's family were from the islands - but she gravitated more to my family and felt comfortable around them more than her family and this ex sis in law would brag about the islands this and that and she would make comments about my looks being skinny and such but it was jealousy - i didn't care much for her b/c she was very insecure. i felt once again, i was a young girl in college again - being around island ppl....i would love to meet drake and ask him did he feel left out and isolated because he wasn't from the islands - he makes me very proud being a blk canadian - his dad is african american and his mom is jewish. i still hv dealt w/racism not much with wht ppl, but with my own ppl - which is quite sad and on top of it-colorism, that also played a part from my family - being called pygmy, chocolate dip, nappy hair - it hurt but these so called relatives, they aren't all that anymore, they had hard lives as children...when ppl see something in you that is special and they don't have, that's when their ugliness shows -

But I wonder how sorry he feels, knowing that by coming to Canada, he and his fellow immigrant countrymen have, taken jobs away from Canadians? 1500 people like myself that have worked here all their lives? I was working in the meat industry for over fifteen years, just to have my employer, take my skilled job and give it too an unskilled worker, under the temporary foreign worker program. That program was set up by the federal government for unskilled workers, coming to Canada for unskilled jobs that Canadians didn't want. My job was a skilled job, that I had to work my way up from the bottom, to the level of employment, that only skilled workers were capable of doing. This temp program was for unskilled employment only! But if your employer is big enough in the industry, the government allows them to bend the laws of the land, and give your jobs to any undereducated immigrant that comes along...WTF? Canada wake up!!!

I can't believe what's being said in these comments. So the fact that he didn't speak English in the interview is the only thing that sunk in? Ok. Many of the immigrants that come here , come for the opportunities: Work, food, shelter, etc. Learning English should be mandatory in all immigrants applying for citizenship but we can't disregard someone because they choose NOT to speak English. For all we know, this guy (I'm sure) understands and probably can speak some English but for the sake of the interview the producers mostly likely asked him and he chose to speak in Spanish.

I am actually shocked to see this information. I did not know. I travelled to Vancouver & Vancouver Island 5X. 2X with my African-American girlfriend. I didn't see any biased behavior at all. Of course, I was not looking for it. We were treated courteously on both sides of the boarder. My grandmother was held as a White slave for most of her youth (indentured servant) in Canada. Nice video, Derek. I'm gonna add something you didn't even mention. Here in the U.S., there is the Patriot Act, and a growing Police State. Our liberties and Constitutional rights are being trampled by the day. Our privacy is being lost at an alarming rate, and there are more checkpoints than ever before, tighter security measures at airports than ever before, metal detectors even at high schools for students just to attend class, and worst of all shootings of innocent people by cops (often homeless, mentally ill, etc.) than ever before. I don't know for sure, but I don't think Canada has the degree of the same problems, and if they do, they certainly aren't at the magnitude that they are happening here in the states. Those shootings are about 2,000-3,000 just in the last year!! Please be careful, especially in California, and know your U.S. Constitutional rights if/when you get stopped on the road or anywhere else.

I live in Northern Ontario, and I have never actually been to thr USA, but I know someone who moved to Milwaukee and moved back to Canada because he couldn't handle certain mentalities people had. He said it definitely wasn't everyone, but the whole gun thing freaked him out. He knew a lot of people who carried guns around regularily, and so he always felt he needed to censor himself so he didn't want to offend or make anyone angry, because of thr guns. His brother lives in California and he loves it there, but Milwaukee wasn't for him. It was an interesting conversation

I just wonder why? Why Muslims? I mean every religion has the extremists! I know Muslims has the fair share and maybe more! But so what I am scared... This might a little of topic but many of the practices that Muslims do are very good health wise \n\n1) while making wudo (a special wash before prayer) when we rinse our nose with water to that cleans until the the bone at the top of our nose is so good that it actually finishes allergies like if you have pollen allergy because when you clean it is getting less sensitive and more stronger I know someone (I've met someone) that had an allergy with fur or something and they made wudo very often and in actually 2 years they had no allergies\n\n2) when we pray:\nThere was a young man who wasn't so practising so he didn't pray he spent his time working out and doing track and field during one of his runs he fell and fractured a bone when the went to the doctor (non Muslim doctor) he told the guy to do some actions that will help in recovering his bones and the acts that the doctors showed him were the actions we do in our prayer, the guy decided to do these actions but not by itself but in his prayer and this was giving to him by a person that wasn't even Muslim!\n\n3) when Muslims cover ourselves many guys don't hit on us because when we cover ourselves its a sign so show that we are not into these kinds of stuff \nIf you want to see proof search up walking in NYC for 10 hours by AreWeFamousNow\n\nSo next time you say that we are crazy doing this stupidity we are protecting ourselves and we are treating our body good health wise.
