See people, racism happens everywhere, not just in America and in a country that is predominantly white and accepting non-white immigrants into their country like Canada, there are bound to be racial attacks.

Fun Fact : In Canada racism is not only towards black canadians, it is for anybody who is absolutely not white and lastname doesn't start with Mac/Mc. You can be Italian, Portugese, Greek, Indian and still be discriminated... Canada is definately not an immigrant friendly country that's why equal amount of people leave Canada as come here... Just fyi, Great place if you have a lot untaxed/illegitimate money overseas and need somewhere to park...

Lack of leadership. People are up set that they were force to move out of their communities. My property taxes went from $1890 towards $4,000. My grandmother bought our family house back in 1920. She knew everyone and fed the community weekly. Entire family's went to church back then. Now slowly everything has changed. It does not matter if you live in a area.of green spaces, plenty of dog walkers, planted flowers, or community organizations if its a poor community or a nicer wealthy community, white racism and greed from over development will destroy in the long run any great community.

Block parties, cook outs, neighborhood meetings, bus trips to the beaches, weddings and Saturday clean ups were all apart of our past community's. Yes some still exist. However, anytime Blacks in America have demanded equity, justice, education, health rights, human rights, and fair housing, we are met often with a back lash. Suddenly, rents go up. Houses have doubled or tripled in increase. Crime waves have made it almost impossible for people to come out and relax freely. Political changes have also played a major roll. Neighborhoods have been redlined. Even where one goes to vote has been moved. White racism and fear, entire industry's have moved put of key areas. So thete is a natural break down. Neighborhood meets come to a end and different organizations from schools, to planting trees to parking all get affected due to such changes. Local small businesses that knew each family members also close up and leave. Its not a question of oh you have everything you need in your American house. That is not it! Its more complex. The lack of kids playing out front or the older ladies keeping watch have disappeared also due to no rent control policies.

I was born in USA but this man speaks 100% truth. \n\nI feel afraid, lonely , depressed in California. People are mean, rude, cold, violent. So lonely people don't talk to nobody only to fight. Too much drugs. \n\nI'm visiting my parents in Mexico and I like Mexico better. People are very friendly there is crime but not too much. Right here it is nice lovely friendly people say hi friendly neighbors.\n\nUSA is full of everything virtual, everything online and yes consumerism , materialistic and yes very plastic. Working day and night never home. Stupid. I know a lot of people like my uncle always at work never home working 7 days a week like slaves and not ever home just to sleep. Ridiculous. \n\nMy Dad retired and went back to Mexico by Otay and I'm visiting my parents a lot here in Mexico more freedom and very friendly people friendly neighbors. \n\nNot horrible lonely America. In America too much cell phones nobody talks only text. Cold people no interaction no socialize only depression, drugs, drugs, drugs, money money, money, cell phones all day and fighting . \n\nPeople mean rude in USA I fight with everybody in USA too much racism. Too much entitled crazy people. I hate it in California. I prefer Mexico or other foreign countries like Africa, Thailand, Japan, Cambodia. \n\nNo greedy money hungry commercialism capitalist USA and Europe.

Land of money laundering! If you come with money, yes, you can make more money. People are mostly fake polite, cold in general, self oriented. Healthcare is a disaster. God help you if you get really sick and wait for a specialist. Hidden racism everywhere. By the way , I am talking about Vancouver, not sure about Eastern Canada. The only good side is a beautiful nature! I think people should consider move to USA rather than Canada. Canada is ruined for the past 7 years.

Canada is very much racist . There are a lot of micro aggressions and a lot of passive racism . They think they’re “nice” and that it doesn’t exist but it does . People need to do better and educate yourselves . What part of RACISM IS EVIL do you not understand?

MY ADVICES: Racism happens because of FRUSTRATION and deeper psychological issues and it is always about the abuser or the bully (for me BULLY = LOSER = FRUSTRATED = UNHAPPY), not the victim! They probably wanted to become judges, engineers, diplomats or prominent and successful lawyers but very unfortunately, life has failed them so badly that they end up doing a job and living the empty and useless life that they in fact, entirely dislike! In a nutshell, racist people are just people who have a bad life, a life that kills them, a life that eats them and burns them! Fortunately, for the victims, lawyers exist and if gone too far, press charges if your have been mistreated in an unjust way;! Also in case of abuse, record everything… record the image or if u cannot, record the voice (if going out late at night, it might be a good idea to have a microphone constantly turned on just in case an abuse happens) as you can use those as evidence later on and talk to a loud mouth and experienced lawyer !!! Do never let losers walk in you feet’s… ever! By the way, I am Belgian who has lived and worked a few years in many countries, including Africa…. So I have a better idea of what is the perspective down there!

In some cases, I was victim of racism here in Canada and this is what I just did: I speak in French instead to the aggressor; I have done that many times and usually it works; if it is like this indirect form of racism (much more frequent) where a “local” or even sometimes some Immigrants try to look down in me, I just called a friend of mine (who is usually free) and start to chat loudly in french with him!! And believe it or not, my French accent is 99% close to perfection although I do not look like a white French guy… but see… this is exactly why it is very amusing as you can barely imagine how most people act by seeing me talking in French!! Just say something like “… je reste pour une année en plus ici au Canada (make sure you say Canada to attract their attention) Et après je bouge sur Paris….”

As an Canadian I NEEEEEED TO SAY that one of Alberta's biggest problems, and a reason you may not want to live there, was not mentioned in this video. ALBERTA HAS A HUGE PROBLEM with racism, and sexism really. I'm not the one to speak on its nuances, but I can tell you based on my 6 month stay there, its not somewhere I want to live. I'm not even a person of colour, just female and it was horrid. I can't imagine being indigenous and female. I'm sorry for the people and especially women who would like to live in a different environment and can't seem to get out. Hope you find your rainbow.

The issue of racism will never be solved, because you always have white pleasing black people. I know a black organization founded by a black woman to help black people, and guess what, she has given all the positions in the organization to white women. I mean blaaaah

The reason people leave Canada within first 20 years is they do not have sizable retirement fund to enjoy comfortable retirement life after retirement. The reason half of that leave within 1 year is they cannot afford to live decently here until they find a job in their field or it takes many years before they start making a professional career and seeing the plight of immigrants of their community struggling in menial low paying jobs living in dorm rooms. These two ladies seems from east european backgrounds, these people have comparatively better prospects in Canada than immigrants from Asia or Africa. The reason skin colors make lot of difference. The reality is Canadian government is trying to do everything it can to create opportunities for all immigrants but unable due to racist white people. Just giving a job to immigrant is not enough, they must be able to sustain those jobs for reasonable periods of time. This is where Canada ls lagging. This is clear proof, Racism is very high in Canada. Just the valid proof is these two ladies open an channel and got 180K views within 3 months, they probably make lot of money on this channel. This is Canada. If they really have much productive jobs they will not do this.

you both gave very valuable information. This has helped me to convince my brother to think about moving to Canada. Generally, majority of immigrants face racism. I have come across people with professional degrees doing jobs like a taxi driver or security guard. However, it is up to one what one wants in his life.

Canada is what you make of it. You can arrive rich and end up poor and you can arrive poor and end up rich. In between that, you can have a great life that balances your needs. I’ve seen immigrants succeed simply because they see the opportunity in front of them . They worked hard in their own counties to stay just above the poverty line ,but when they apply that same effort here it pays off ten times greater. I feel that compared to a lot of immigrants, natural born Canadians come across as spoiled and a little lazy…we are. We haven’t had to struggle the same way someone from a poorer country might have. I’ve talked to people who’ve worked ten to twelve hours a day just to stay afloat. If you did that here you could make plenty of money to live and have some left over. As far as owning a house goes,yes it’s expensive . I feel that homeownership in any country is relatively expensive. Here is a tip; use that soaring home prices to your advantage. Houses are expensive but you can make a lot of money buying and selling. I recommend putting together a buyers group and share the house for a few years, then sell at a profit, buy a bigger house or two smaller houses.try to buy the worst house in the best neighbourhood and fix it up slowly . That house could double in value in five or six years in the Toronto market. This is nothing new of course ,the people from India and China seem to do this a lot here ,it drives up prices and profits. On the downside to this ,you are now part of the problem. As the housing prices are driven up the non wealthy can no longer afford to own a house . They are at the mercy of high rents with no rewards of ownership. They are caught in a cycle of hard work and (relative)poverty. This could also be you if you can’t keep up the house payments and are forced to rent.\nHow well you speak English is important but your native language is also useful here because Canada is half immigrants . As a Canadian that speaks only english (Irish descent)I have to say to all newcomers that I’m very impressed that you have learned a new language and that you may even speak more than two! Don’t be embarrassed about your abilities . I find that in my experience , Canadians do not look down on people just because they don’t know English. In fact ,I’ve known people that have lived here for decades and still know very little English. They are comfortable in their communities and they function just fine. Learn as much English as suits your needs and be proud of any gains you make.\nOutside of Toronto are other cities that you might consider when looking at southern Ontario.From my experience,most are generally the same, just not as big . There are large immigrant communities in London Ontario, Hamilton and just outside of Toronto where housing is just a little bit less expensive but the commute to work is probably longer. This is just my opinion but in the small towns there are less people of colour , (which is what people of no colour call everyone else . I wonder if I’m called a person of no colour in some other culture ? LoL ). That might make it harder for you to feel integrated ,if that’s what you want. I’m not saying that people from other cultures can’t make it in a small town , I’m just saying that it’s definitely not Toronto . Here, people of any nationality can feel like they have a place where they can belong . It seems that no matter where you are from ,there is a community already here that’s set up restaurants and stores and clothing shops and newcomer support systems. And if your from Portugal or China or India or Africa or the Middle East, there are large groups of your kin here that have established roots for generations and you probably know this already.\nToronto means meeting place and that becomes evident quickly. I was born here and it’s one of the things I love the most about my city. I’m not going to say that there isn’t systemic racism here ,the people of no colour still kind of keep the top position , but as we become a minority in a decade or so ,I hope that will shift to a broader spectrum. It’s certainly happening already. One good thing is that the police department tries to hire people of colour so that racialism may play a smaller role. We’re getting used to seeing our politicians more and more reflect their constituents.\nI have to talk about the weather. Because I’m from here I’m used to the extremes of minus thirty and plus thirty . Eventually you get used to it (somewhat). Dressing in the right clothes is important. Summer is easy , but winter is different. It’s trying to kill you. Spend the most that you can afford on winter cloths . If you can afford a quality parka you should get one. The hood can be drawn around the face and stay out of the wind.\nIf not ,think of layers with a outer layer that blocks the wind. We have things called long Johns that are basically full length thick cotton or nylon pants that go on under your pants and a pair of extra thick socks. Buy your boots to fit your thick socks. Try to get the best boots you can afford ,it’s something that you might spend a little extra for but never regret.\nAll in all we are a fairly organized and peaceful society. Most people are friendly and will give you a chance . We have a good social safety net here and you don’t have to be homeless or starving if you don’t want to. There are people and organizations set up to help ,that truly try to get people back on their feet. It’s a good investment that pays off in ways that matter for the quality of life in a big city. I’m not putting my American neighbours down when I say they do things differently. They have their ways ,we have ours. This is just something that we do because we’re trying to learn how to help those that society has discarded or can’t find their place. Sure we have one or two areas where the homeless have pitched tents and we have some resources for them if they want. Unfortunately The mayor recently forced a small camp to move from a very visible place to more scattered locations. There were social workers involved as well as protesters trying to protect them. I didn’t like that happening and I want to see even more resources dedicated to them ,but on the other hand ,we are trying to avoid something like what happens on the streets when it’s just ignored. When I see YouTube videos of the streets of Philadelphia I’m extremely saddened. I thank the lucky stars that I was born in Toronto Canada.\nFor all it’s pollution and expense and crowds ,I think it’s a great place to do almost anything your heart desires . For every ugly building there is a beautiful park ,for every honked horn there is a birds call , for every cold and dark day there is beautiful sunny one around the corner.

I'm Asian from Republic of Korea. I liked USA but since a few days I'm really hating that country because of racism against Asians, Black people, people who are different religious. I've not seen other countries being this racist as America. I'm not saying that everyone from USA is racist but sadly i'm sure majority of them are! American people think that every Asian is Chinese and they call us Virus, they tell us to go back to our country if an Asian visits. This is how many Asians are losing interest in USA nowadays.. \nsorry for my bad English, i'm still learning! ??‍♂️

I prefer Canada over the USA why because there is less racism when compared to Canada. It is very peaceful the demerit is people have to pay higher taxes to the government. The other people I mean Canadians are very humble.

My own family immigrated here from South Africa 40 years ago. They say the people here are dour, and unfriendly. Ironically over the years they have become the same. The country changes you, and each province seems to have it's own culture. Currently in my province there is a large influx of Indian students and Syrian refugees. Many students I've spoken to complained about the racism, poor weather and lack of things to do in my city specifically. Myself, I feel foreign now in a city I grew up in and am hoping to move out west, but maybe further south to be with my american boyfriend. I wonder what it's like immigrating to the States lol!

I will be leaving Canada within a year or so after declaring non-residency and bring my business with me. My view is that Canada is a good place to live a normal life. Healthcare covers your peace of mind, even if the waitlist is long and bureaucratic. Social benefit is not as generous as people suggest sometimes (at least in Canada unless you're on actual welfare where you can't work but you can't rise your way up easily and you're forever stuck in 1.5k CAD/month... which would be ofc much better than other struggling countries but immigrants often aspire for greater things than that. \n\nEven though I was an Asian immigrant, I never faced significant racism afaik (I could be socially naive however), but there are definitely limitations of opportunities. It's not too difficult to find entry to intermediate jobs, at least for me but that's probably because I did schooling here in Canada. And I was able to network aggressively and learned to be an extrovert, so that also helped. But still, Canadian living cost is high (and I'm saying this from Calgary... imagine what it's like in Vancouver/Toronto). Is it doable? Ofc. 50-70k CAD/year is quite doable ESPECIALLY in Calgary, Alberta. But it'd be difficult to achieve financial independence and true wealth. This is true everywhere ofc but more so in Canada compared to, say, USA where living cost is lower and wage is higher with more opportunities. It's a great place to live normally. If you wanna become exceptional (wealth, customized goods and services, etc), it become harder and costs more. \n\nEven now when I now own business after struggling to get here over 10 years that generates income that I need to achieve financial freedom, tax becomes frightfully bad. Alberta (that imposes lowest tax rate compared to other Canadian provinces (not including territories for obvious reason) is comparable to California in USA that is among the highest in all US states. And let's be real; Alberta is nowhere close of being California. Imagine the taxes in BC/Ontario shiver. \n\nOnce my tax rate becomes high enough to justify moving, I will pull the trigger. Still window-shopping where I wanna go and I have some lists but it's gonna happen especially as Canada will have to deal with their struggling economy, further distancing from US and their government mismanagement that continues to cost the society. I will not have any part in it. I may come back once in a while for visit or potentially retire depending on what the future looks like but right now, I just don't see my longterm future here.

I was reading the comments and for me sounds like that those people are talking about another country. I am Brazilian, I would like that you guys have a chance to living here, haha, it´s so expensive, a lot of fo taxes, racism, corrupt politicians all the time. I have a friend living in Montreal and for her, it´s like a dream.

Reason #1 racism- maybe you don't experience it but lots of other people experience it. Marginalized etc.\nI was a journeyman electrician back home I move to Canada I applied for jobs and philisity the lady at the desk said to me you are black, you will never get job here exact words.\nStruggle throughout the years went back to school got a mechanical license and first week on the job I was fired for no reason with no explanation so all I'm saying is for some races things is easier.

A/A. Great topic and information! Thank you! For you to say you’ve been here for 15 years and haven’t experienced racism then you’re lucky. I have been living here for 28 years (that’s most of my life, I came her as a young child). My sister’s and I have experienced first hand racism due to our hijab in elementary school, high school, after 9-11 during job interviews (myself and my brothers due to their name being Muhammed). Over time things have gotten better alhumdolillah but racism exists everywhere and many have experienced it. Where there are people that use racial slurs or acts of discrimination etc, there are many more that will support you and guide you. I love Canada and wouldn’t live anywhere else but to say it’s not there and every case is dealt with the way it was dealt with our London family, is not the case. If it was, what happens with them would not have happened. May Allah help us treat one another with tolerance and love as Islam intends it to be. Now allow me to express a different perspective as a black man living in the states. I took some time to educate myself on the issue of racism and slavery. I would advise all people to sit down and learn facts about the issue. don’t be driven by emotions but by facts rather. I do not mean to be negative here but anyone of you who is well settled outside Canada, don't come to Canada!, unless you want to do labor work. I know people who have done Masters in Software engineering are working in a Pizza shops. If there is one job opening there are 10 thousand applicants for the same job. Companies showing fake jobs to satisfy govt. pressures. Automated refusals replies of your job applications are common.\n People get hired on sources and within companies. Racism exists, results are killings every now and then. Go and watch news channels like CP24. Thieves are here. Things do get stolen. Recently mass graves are found near schools in multiple areas of small children of indigenous people who were tortured and killed by white supremacy in the past. Recently a whole family is killed by a maniac. No capital punishments so killers, rapists walks free after 10-15 years tops.\n\nAshir sahib is being a little dramatic. I guess the agony of Pakistani bureaucracy has influenced him so negatively that in his mind he is comparing Pakistani life with Canadian life. He himself was driving truck initially. may be now a days retired or staying home or may have sufficient funds. But don't get too excited with his kind words. He is only showing the good side of Canada in some sort of excitement. \nThe bitter truth is that unemployment rate is too high here. Govt hides the truth. They couldn't even handle the pandemic properly. Alcohol is cheap marihuana (Hashish, Charas) is legal now. Every 3rd person is smoking weed. Drunk drivers kills innocents on roads often. Every region have different rules and regulations and policies. I moved to Niagara region and they charged me $200 deposit for water $200 deposit for hydro plus monthly bills separate. $1800 to $2000 is the rent of one bed apartment. Burlington where he lives has $2800 to $3000 rent monthly for a house. Go check online! Price of buying a home is in millions of dollars. Go check real estate.

a lot can be said about your narrative. you failed to mention the age of immigration. That alone is THE single most important factor on the out come of the exercise . anyone over 40 should not immigrate. second the education and skill set you bring will be a major factor in the out come. Third there is systemic racism after a certain level which one can feel in very job. i strongly believe one should come to Canada, get top quality education and skill, work with top quality people/organizations which should not be more than 5-6 years, then go back home. the long term price of immigration is huge. Islamophobia, racism, discrimination, is in Canada, unless otherwise you owner operator mean you own your business , you will see good weather if its summer if its winter just watch out, lol, a lot of struggle long hour work timings if you want trade, or should be PhD or doctor or big degree, really its not easy life here to as usual anywhere else, like when i go back in Pakistan i see more rich people in Pakistan, big houses, but we have to work hard in Canada, ready for surprises in Canada, but its organized country, they got no feelings for you u got to wok here, no-one can help you here you on your own.

A compelling documentary, thank you. Why is it that black people continue to be so demonised and de-humanised? It is such a shame that follow Asians and even American Natives play such a role in perpetuating racism against African descent people, but I guess they have their issues of identity. Real shame nonetheless, but one thing at the time, we still have a bigger hurdle to overcome.\n \nOf course, it is still not easy to be a black woman, man or child today. Sadly our mothers are still crying for their children being killed or overly punished by the police institution, our kids are still targeted if not simply despised for being beautiful, bright, talented, lively and brilliant beings with deeper skin tonalities, and hair that speaks for us otherwise. It is still dangerous because there is so much hatred across the world against us as we are coming to understand. And hatred is unpredictable. That should not be so difficult to calculate. We're faced with higher mortality and disease rates, covid 19 has rubbed that to our eyes, care systems medical world is in less favour and neglect black communities. On a day-to-day, I am so insulted about the security guard that follows me in the shop, it is so disrespectful and embarrassing, that makes me move suspiciously indeed, yet so low and ignorant I don't even want to have to confront the issue. \n\nI agree with the writer who writes about his experience (and shame?) of being a black man in Canada- the same is institutionally reflected in Europe and across the world let's not be naive, we're not welcome but they should know they have no choice. I believe what he really is trying to express is based on the fear of being a black man in a hostile environment, but we should certainly have nothing to be ashamed of. \n\nOn contrary, we should be very proud because we are still here, like any other citizens paying our taxes and playing positive roles in society by major. While the media will continue to do its good job demonising and stereotyping us negatively, let's not forget that we are real people with real accomplishments who have always made impactful contributions to society. \n\nHere's the thing, we are admired, loved and celebrated because of the brilliance, talent, charisma, swag and wealth we bring to contemporary culture. Everyone consumes black culture, from the filler lip service to the quick fix tan, from rock and roll to hip hop and RnB music, to sports athletes to the amazing creators out there, no need to mention names. But, we also are doctors, politicians, judges nurses, waiters, carers, scientists, builders, bankers, entrepreneurs, employees or unemployed. \n\nSadly on a day-to-day, we are not viewed as equal people, with equal rights and needs, who, by large, just want the good for our children, our families, neighbours and indeed countries. STOP INSTITUTIONAL RACISM. We are real mothers, real fathers, real children who have a birthright to equal treatment, respect and human dignity, whether or not you choose to disagree.

What about all of the indigenous people of Canada that are ostracized from systematic racism? Black folks having more of a voice in Canada because the racism is underlying. In America, it's in your face

So what if this virus first happened to the north, what will Asians do? I'm sure Asians will considerate them and tries to help too. I really hate idiot people. This isn't about racism, I guess. It's about how they/people thinks and most people thinks critically low.

This whole “micro aggression” nonsense is what completely makes people not take racism seriously and as a real issue. I for one am not saying I’m one of those people but I’m just making an observation. Because along with real problems of people literally hating a certain group and thinking they’re above them just because their skin is a different color than them, we lump somebody touching your hair?? Sounds more like she just wasn’t comfortable with somebody doing that, and most people would probably say that they’d be uncomfortable with something like that, regardless of their ethnicity. I hate when racism gets thrown around because people are insecure and think everything bad or unwarranted that happens to them from a white person is rooted in racism. It’s seems like “it’s racism cuz I decided it was”. Some people are just assholes, or weirdos, and need to be put in their place and labeling EVERYTHING as racism really causes a lot of people to not take things seriously when it IS present.

I have been bullied and made fun of by Chinese Canadians in high school. And now people think I am Chinese, how ridiculous. Do I need to wear a t-shirt saying I’m not Chinese? \nThis is just an excuse for white Canadians to justify their racism. I don’t have anything against Chinese Canadians but Asia isn’t China, it is comprised of many countries. I’m planning to leave Canada because of the increase of Asian racism.

I have seen racism rise like crazy with people in the neighborhood I've known for years. It's like they are possessed. I feel liberals pushed this and opened this door and now there's no peace. People are mad and angry. The dishonest media is making it so much worse. Let's stop talking about race.

I wish yall would try with racism on Homeless people. Im Homeless, and yet i get messed with. My friend is Black im White, him and i went to an apt. Rental place a year ago were both on disability. We said we were looking for a two bedroom. They told us we dont help people on disability look for an apt. They said we couldnt afford it anyway. Plus transunion eqafax, experian, ruined my life . I was working sense i was 15 years old i had Emaculate credit, they destroyed it. Your Bank was your credit now theirs these three nightmare companies, that keep doing it. I also paid people to fix it but it happened again and again. Now i cant get an apt or car those companies that help you with credit that isnt even yours because my idendtity was stolen. Those companies work with transunion, equafax, experian. It makes me sick !!

what many call racism is not racism but more accurately tribalism. people always will trust their own rather than the stranger. Its actually normal and a part of the self-preservation mechanism and always will be. there is a little bit of xenophobia in everyone. the thing is we don't have to disrespect one another and treat one another so badly.

the government and media fuel peoples' racism

I live in Vancouver and I believe I was experiencing racism while looking for a placed to live. I was asked over the phone If I was Chinese, I said no and the person said that's what they were looking for. Or when I went to look at a suite and the person was east Indian and they ghosted me after seeing what I look like which happened a few times. This makes it hard to find a place to live in Vancouver considering the high population of Asian home owners. I think it may have been different while looking for apartments. This can happen to white people as well especially in a diverse city.

Racism exists both ways in Canada. Black people are racists too.

I’m tired of Canada making it about black people. The racism that occurs in the US has nothing does not ever compare to Canada. The racism in Canada is against the indigenous and do not forget that fight. Stop shoving your ass on the backs of the indigenous it is not the same

If you don’t think racism exists in Canada, just do some research about the indigenous women in prison. Do some research about the indigenous and black peoples who go missing and aren’t given a second thought. Canada is just better at hiding it. Google is free.
