Im an American. Im ok with Trump putting tariffs on Canada. Trudeau has not been a good leader. So he'll use this to get the Canadians on his side. Don't forget Trudeau ceased the truckers money.

For all of you GO Canada people. The majority of Canadians oppose what our government is doing. This man has destroyed our economy and done everything he could to stop international trade of LNG and oil by shutting down all pipeline and LNG PROJECTS WE HATE THIS MAN. It is not Trump BAD it is everything Trudeau did above and more that killed us. these Tariffs would mean nothing to us if he hadn’t fiscally destroyed us. We are getting what we deserve. Unfortunately it will lead to destitution of many people. I can’t wait to see his party gone. We are running out of time.

Just bann all American products across canada, develop your partnerships with Mexico and Central America countries. They have the rigth of imposing whatever tariffs they want. See how Russia developed their own industry when all west companies left after the war. There is nothing better than those tariffs. For both parts. 100b to us is barely .4% of our economy. It's nothing, and we put tariffs on the equivalent of almost 20% of their economy. Does Canada know how to do basic math?

Canada should immediately order total blockade the border and reject all goods coming to Canada from USA and ask all Canadian not going to USA from now until further notice to force Trump Tariff to crack down! At the same time call each province to mobilize to prepare for actual war to star conscription because Trump may invade Canada like Hitler had done in Europe before! He is actually mad in mind now!

Great, unambiguous words by the Canadian president! But one of his remarks stood out: he said that the tyrants want to divide us. He is correct, of course. But the implications are profound! This means that Trudeau himself is measuring his words and deliberately using diplomatic language. He even says that Trump is “intelligent”, which only plays into the imbecile’s unfortunate NPD psychology! The unwillingness to stand strong against American tyranny is harming democracy worldwide! Force Trump to declare a side! And make him choose Putin or democracy NOW!! If you fail to do that, you are taking the path of accommodation, and if Trump is really a tyrant (which he surely is, because of MANY evidences!!), democratic countries weaken their position by not standing strong NOW. If Europe and Canada and Mexico ban Tesla imports and place 50% tariffs on tens of billions of dollars of American products, what would happen? Are these countries AFRAID of the United States? This is not the time for fear! This is the time for courage! Boycott!!!

Tariffs on Canada would likely reduce real gross domestic product to zero in 2025 if implemented beyond a year and lead to a 2% contraction in 2026 with a peak unemployment rate of more than 8%. Trump told Canada if you did TWO THINGS, there would be no tariffs on Canada. One, stop illegal immigrants from pouring into the USA from Canada. Two, stop illegal drugs from coming into the USA from Canada. Did Trudeau comply with President Trump's request? If so, there must be a lack of communication to verify what has transpired. If not, then Trump imposed tariffs for lack of compliance. Now, if Canada has already complied yet the Trump admin imposed tariffs anyway, then that is a slap in the face to our neighbors to the north and the American people should be outraged and let Trump know it.

I have voted for Trump 3 times. Canada has over charged the USA through tariffs for years. I know you will miss the money but just suck it up like we have had to do. Canada has alway had a tariff on US goods. Canada exports aprox 78% of their goods to the US, while the US exports aprox 17% to Canada. Canada will be crushed from this, but if that's what needs to happen to get them in line, then ok.

No tariffs but America shouldn't be floating billions to Canada for them to survive as a nation. They should live off there own dollar. America is taking care of toany countries and not its own people.

How does this make sense? Trump being the stupid ass he has always been, put tariffs on imported goods from Canada causing US citizens to pay more for goods from Canada. So PM Trudeau sets tariffs on goods coming in from the US causing CAnidian citizens to pay more for goods imported from the US.\nHaving said that, I do see that PM Trudeau will be causing Canadian citizens to stop buying imported US products, slapping Trump in the face and causing hardship to US manufacturers. It's got nothing to do with Putin, or at least very little. Trump wants the tariff money for his billionaire tax cuts. That's it.\n\nEveryone is making this much more complex than it is. They should have already been doing their job at that border. Trump had to threaten them in order for them to use drones, etc. at the border. They should have been doing that. Trudeau is extremely impressive in government actions and in communicating as simply as possible to the people of USA, to explain what is happening and to implore that they pressurise their rotten Trump government. This is an attack on a very friendly government with 25% tariffs on everything but just 10% on China?? This is an attack to try to destabilise Canada to help in taking the country over. It won't work and everyone will suffer or lose.

Presumably the whole point of tariffs on Canada is to raise revenues to cover the tax cuts for the oligarchs that he hopes will keep his or his family permanently in power. From that point of view it makes sense to put the tariffs on the biggest trade partners. The tax breaks the oligarchs get will allow them to buy up and control the media on his behalf. Nothing to do with fentanyl. That's just a lie that US citizens are stupid enough to swallow.

1/2: Myself and the saner half of the US that read, understood, and voted against Proj 2025 understands why they need to levy retaliatory tariffs especially as a Michigander who's lived less than 4 hours from Canada all her life, who has family in Quebec and Ontario, and is a job-seeking policy professional and international trade nerd who now cannot in good faith seek a job in the federal government. We have been looking and still do look to Canada as a model quite a bit and love Canada and Canadians to pieces. We Michiganders especially in the central and eastern UP and Detroit and Ann Arbor area are friends, coworkers, and family of Canadians. Some are even dual citizens. Trump is completely unreasonable. There is no sense dealing with him, period. If it is going to be 25% or even 50% with reciprocal tariffs, we simply DO NOT import American goods into Canada (if our retailers don't order them, there is nothing they can do) and if we export, the consumer is paying those tariffs and we continue to manufacture. I honestly think that is the best, maybe the only, solution. If tariffed countries stop buying American goods, maybe Trumputin will reconsider. And if he doesn't, he doesn't. He isn't known for his brain power.

Being an American I am behind Canada and feel these Tariffs are uncalled for and will do nothing to help our ever growing Inflation! We all know it was never about DRUGS and Illegal immigrants anyone with a brain should know it was always about the MONEY, ITS ALWAYS ABOUT THE MONEY. Trump should of just told them honestly, no more FREE period instead of making these countries put resources at the border. Trump play a game to get 2 for 1 by making them secure the borders and making them pay tariffs all at the cost of the American people if Americans do stuffer. But I do again with the tariffs everyone should pay considering that all the factories run to these foreign countries for cheaper labor, and Americans are your biggest buyers. Any country who wants FREE should be ashamed of themselves. Maybe Canada should be free US and Canada had a good relationship. But Mexico and China NOT at all.

Maybe he should discuss the constant duty fees and border crossing fees for anything shipped from Canada to the USA that have been constantly rising for years; fees that his very own government sets. Maybe he should talk about Canada demanding that anyone that sells anything foodwise to anyone in Canada from the USA has to have a special Safe Food For Canadians Food License or the goods being shipped will be rejected at the US owners cost, seized by the border and held in storage at the US owners cost, and destroyed and billed to the US owner. A license that no one actually needs considering other legal and ethical controls are in place to prevent unsafe foods from crossing the border, but Canada reserves the right to make us pay for one or we suffer consequences. Maybe he should discuss how they left their borders open to migrants, making it much easier for criminal migrants to get into the US. Maybe he should understand that the US has always been bleeding money to Canada on a trade level for about half a century with it getting much worse in the last decade because Canada's government are greedy. Before any of you come at me, keep in mind I work in the food ingredient industry as an order processing, logistics and customs & border crossing and have done so for 15 years. These tariffs were a long time coming and if any of you are on the inside of trade in the manner I am, then you know what I'm saying is true. The US is constantly paying additional tariffs by way of duty fees, customs fees, certain applied taxes (like there is literally a blueberry tax to ship US grown blueberries into Canada to prevent US blueberries from taking over the Canadian blueberry market). The blueberry tax is about 25cents per lb. which drives the price per lb. up for the seller and buyer. You wanna know why Food costs so much? All of the above with a huge side helping of GREED.

As I understand it, the USA was not charging any tariffs to Canada before these were created. But Canada had tariffs to the USA. If that isn't true, then it can at least be said that Canada's tariffs were higher for the similar items than the USA tariffs. And now Canada is complaining? To hell with Canada.
