I experienced seeing some migrants going from that Plattsburgh gas station on that bus line this year. I didn't think about it cause there's such a large int'l population in Montreal. But looking back, it was a little weird seeing foreigners waiting for a bus in a smaller city across the border. ? And Canada's visa/permit offices are a joke. Visitors and migrants get their asap but people waiting for a work permit have to wait at least 6 months or a year, even for US citizens

Context:\n\nAround a year or two ago driving back home with some friends after visiting Niagara Falls, we were pulled over because my car’s headlights were off. I didn’t stop immediately when they turned their police lights on because I didn’t think I did anything wrong but did eventually pull over after realizing they were indeed trying to pull me over. \n\nAfter I pulled over, two officers quickly got out and one of them rushed to my passenger side mirror and very aggressively yelled at me, “why didn’t you pull over” etc. I was very surprised by his reaction and quickly explained that I was a fairly new driver (about 6 months of driving experience at the time). He went away for a few seconds to cool off and later apologized for his behavior (very respectable).\n\nMain Focus:\n\nNow, the interesting part is while the officer was cooling off, the other officer wanted not just my ID but everyone else’s’ in my car as well. I still to this day do not think that is normal, however, I haven’t been pulled over enough to confirm that. Anyways, some of my friends didn’t have officials IDs on them but they did have their student ID. The police wanted that as well. They took a long time to what I assume, conduct a very thorough check on everyone’s ID, making sure nothing is suspicious and everyone is from America. The whole encounter had to be around 20 to 30 minutes long, it was very very long. \n\nTakeaway:\n\nFrom what I experienced that day, I strongly believe that people were at least crossing the northern border around 1 year ago and most likely even earlier. There are bus services that go straight to NYC from Buffalo which is right across the border from Canada to the US. However, I’m not sure if you need ID to use those services. \n\nFor those who read this comment, use this information however you will, I hope it helps even just a little in making some sort of change. \n\nHopefully, there won’t be an increase on how long it takes me to get past border patrol to Canada and back ?. I also hope that our taxes decrease because too much of it are being payed for services to aliens when some of our locals are still stuck in the streets.

As a Canadian I truly belive our gov in canada is next level incompetent and they don't think immigrants are a problem at all, if not a solution cause we have to give everyone the benefit of the doubt for some reason, indians are our second most common race as well as very much involved with our politics and police even though about 7 years ago there wasn't a single Indian in canada hardly. We also get mostly low grade migrants without much education and are advertising heavily to India and Africa to come start a life in canada for some fucking reason even though where I live average wages are about 45k and average rent is 2.2x higher then 8 years ago and most groceries are about 40 to 80% higher since trudeau got elected too and you make less money often times here for the same jobs so all that probably contributes a lot too to why this is happening

Hmm I feel so bad for everyone involved in this. I don't really want cartels going over the US border but I really don't mind all the people fleeing from countries that are even worse then the US. So many of them have such horror stories from their native countries. And if they're willing to work here I don't think there should be really a problem. I just really wish they wouldn't all congregate in the big cities and would move more to a lot of the rural places that are losing people. The housing is getting so expensive in the big cities I'm not sure how they can afford even stay there.

Look at these protests, how many Indians do you see here representing other states of India. It looks like the protest of state of Punjab.\nMost of these do not even call themselves indian or are proud of Country India. Well as for my experience, I don't even think the education system of this so called developed countries is that great. Like take for my example, I am currently undertaking MSc Biotechnology degree from University of Glasgow in UK, which is considered to be under Top 100 universities in the world by many ranking agency. My academic experience in this university was not at all good, the theoretical lectures were pretty average, the laboratory work was very repetitive, just doing the same thing over and over again, they didn't even teach us how to operate even one complex instrument, it feels like we are a cash cow for this big universities. I highly suggest if anyone is thinking of pursuing a bachelors or master's degree from such countries don't do it. Save your money. Yes, but if you are planning to pursue a PhD then you are most welcome, but only do PhD when you've had a fully funded scholarship+ stipend.

Most Canadians cannot even have proper job anymore. They are left with leftover jobs and yet have to compete with them. Majority of Canadians have more credentials and years experience ahead of them yet they prioritize them. I’m not sure why they preferred hiring them without the relevant education/experience for the job that require certain education, related discipline and skills experience. \n\nI just don’t get the logic hiring them than experienced Canadians. \n\nCanadians are suffering, yet the international students act they are the people of this country and they think have the rights. Also some of them are disrespectful of the laws and the culture.\n\nThey really should fix their immigration laws and the loops holes.

Just wanna present some of my views on this topic, as a indian living in Canada, a lot of points in this discussion are pretty valid. Although, the hate is also in my opinion a little misdirected.\n\nInternational students pay three, maybe even five times as much as domestic students in terms of tuition fees, and while I 100% agree that not everybody even deserves to stay here, a major portion of fault is on government. If you want to make an argument, that government or the country in general never promise the residency status in Canada, then regulate the tuition fees, make it manageable for everyone.\n\nIf you don't want to do that, fair enough, then provide opportunities, there 100% are bad apples in the population, I will not deny that! But you called them, you took the responsibility, you promised the opportunities and students paid for it. Now you hate us for that, either build the bridge both ways or don't hate.\n\nI am genuinely more frustrated with the system rather than immigrants, it is becoming a widespread trend to hate immigrants but I believe the government is just as much at a fault. If you think I am wrong, I would to hear your views on the topic, it is a pretty complex one, just be respectful.

Canadian here, born and bred in Toronto. Just where are you getting those housing prices for Canada $550,000 per house??! As I live very close to Toronto just to get into the housing market now you need at least $1 million Canadian. I think it down payment now is $50,000 or more. I don’t think you could find a house in Canada for $550,000 unless maybe a live weigh in the sticks maybe Tim or talk to Tuck and the northwest territories.\n\nI have visited America and, I definitely would rather live in Canada. Canada is at the whim of US economic policy, which I fear is going to get even worse when Trump returns to office. A transition to Conservatives at the Federal level may lighten the load on a few things like Carbon Tax, and Income Tax (maybe), but they won't be the party to introduce limitations and regulations on investors that are responsible for driving up housing prices, by treating the housing market like it's a stock exchange. \nI will applaud Trudeau on winning over the EV battery plant, for pulling us out of bombing Syria and Iraq, for legalizing Marijuana, and for including Dental Care in health coverage (albeit limited...), but some of his decisions should have been better thought through, like the capital gains tax, and should only be targeting investors that have more than 3 properties. While he increased the budget for the Military, he's spent his first two terms ignoring it and that's severely hampered our readiness, and equipment. And while I do think we needed to boost immigration to stave off economic disaster, the current level that its at is problematic, and many bad faith actors are taking advantage of it and enriching themselves like the diploma mills.

I am a nurse, and the public thinks the hospital is a place to get their oxy for free. They take hospital beds even though they are medically clear by the MRP. Most of this people doesn't pay taxes and they have the audacity to tell us medical professionals they pay for our wage. Ever though half of my pay is deducted to tax and deductible every biweekly. As someone who was born in Canada and left, I wanted to know about some current sentiment, especially by younger people. I think you had some interesting information. I'm actually sad to hear that crime and homelessness has gotten even worse, especially in places like you mentioned, DTES. One thing I want to share with you about the housing issue. Canada acts like a Federation. Meaning that a lot of decision making is delegated to the provincial and municipal level. Yes, Canada has goals for immigration. That's a super valid goal because every developed country is going through declining birth rates. Canada wants to lessen the damage that will be felt by so many other countries like Italy, Germany, China, Japan, etc. The issue with this federated government is like you said, a disconnect between goals and readiness. However, I really feel this will never be accomplishable because of all the lobbying that occurs at the municipal level that the Federal and even Provincial level government cannot control. Yes, there may be shortages in labour to do development, but even then, I really think that lobbying and corruption is keeping adequate supply from being built. From the homeowners and the perspective of the wealthy property owners, they want to keep the valuation of housing high by keeping supply low. Why else is the municipal government keeping such archaic zoning laws? From what I could find, there has been some talk about changing this (https://bc.ctvnews.ca/b-c-to-table-housing-law-targeting-outdated-zoning-rules-1.6627260) but I struggle to see anything really being done. That's probably because of lobbying. The immigration laws set by the government had too many loopholes and flaws ultimately. I don't think we are getting enough productive immigrants. Actually, the opposite seems to occur a lot. The wealthy from the countries I mentioned are abusing the immigration policies in Canada to transfer and preserve their wealth in Canada. I think it has hid in plain sight for a long time, and people have started talked about it in the last 5-10 years because of the struggles of housing affordability from the middle class. What about the immigrants that really want to start a life in Canada and find opportunities like you said? The housing is too expensive for them to do that. Ironically due to the economic conditions and mass immigration, younger Canadians aren’t having children anymore due to it being hard enough to get by without any dependents. I’m in my mid 20s, lots of married friends, none will entertain the idea of kids.\n\nWhat I would prioritize changing:\nA more thorough immigration process that does not favour any country over another. And spread the people out to the smaller communities that need workers instead of turning Toronto into whatever it is. An end to the corporate alliance price fixing on things like insurance, cell phones, and air travel. Reduced taxes for your first property, but additional if you own several (a system similar to what Norway does). Reduced foreign ownership in our home real estate market (home should be for families, and not financial assets for international businesses).\n\nAnd like the video said some more darn infrastructure. In my childhood, I saw entire neighbourhoods being built in - timely fashions. Now it’s rare to see a single home under construction in my home city. Some smaller Canadian towns I know even lack potable water.\n\nWith the market so bad no one wants to build or buy which is just amplifying the issue.\n\nAnd no carbon tax. I apologize for getting political, but the last 10 years the federal government seems to be more concerned with values and foreign intervention than fiscally responsible decisions. How about our health care (OHIP). Never having to worry about purchasing health insurance in case something happens. I’ve heard some horror stories about families go bankrupt due to a family getting cancer or some other serious health issues. We take it for granted here that we don’t even think about it. Go get it checked and $0 bill.

I am currently in Waterloo, Ontario. Definitely Canada is one of the beautiful country. However, the points you mentioned in this video are infinite percent correct. Sometimes, Canadians get fed up so much of seeing Indian students and they start abusing us. It certainly is not correct. But, some students literally occupy, do parties with loud music and act as if they own the place which riles up the natives. In addition, the health care is not responsive. The doctors are so scared of loosing their license that they do not even care of other than their patients (even if some one is in emergency). This is very scary. Sometimes, I think, India is so much better in health care.

Soo true.. I came here thinking all is good in first world country but reality is different. Healthcare is worse even with so little population, Indian healthcare is far far better we forget to appreciate specially considering population in India. No customer service in canada, most services are closed on weekends they don’t care even if ur dying.. India see seekh loo customer service. Plus education is worse they charge high fees but professors are worst they higher anyone that fits their budget not on merit. People occupy positions from graduation until they retire so no scope of growth or upskilling and they get threatened by highly qualified and ambitious Indians who come from fast paced environments. In my current visit to Canada, i am so surprised to see cannabis and mushroom shops in the main markets, and alcohol shops (LCBO) is also everywhere that one can't miss it. I saw it in Ontario and Qubec provinces. Just walk in to the shop and buy drugs anywhere!!! Is this a developed country where they cant even think for their current and future generations?

All the points mentioned in this video are 100% true. I live in Vancouver, and I'm an international student I really wish I knew the truth about this country before. There is no proper education, too. Everything is self-study and assignments with no campus placements. You won't get good professors in your universities because they are overbooked for the semester, and then you are left with no option but to settle for whoever you get. There's also a lot of exploitation by the desi employers who think they are the king of the world you have to do everything they say so that you don't be jobless all your work experience from India does not count here which means you won't get a decent job and even an intern requires experience of 2-3 years with base pay. The only suggestion I would like to give to the people who are planning to come here is to THINK AGAIN, do your research AGAIN. We cannot undo our years lost, BUT YOU STILL HAVE TIME.

Hello, I live in BC, Canada. Canada is currently in a very rough state, and I can only hope things will improve soon. One of the biggest issues is the rampant, uncontrolled immigration. The government invited a flood of people into the country without having the necessary infrastructure in place—jobs, healthcare, housing—to support them. Now they're trying to cap immigration, hoping for a turnaround, but it's like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.\n\nCanada's drug and crime policies are an absolute joke. I also have an Instagram account where many students ask me about studying in Canada. I always tell them that if they're doing well in India, they should stay there. The problem isn't just with India's education system—it's with the unrealistic mindset of people wanting to come to Canada.\n\nWe see students desperately going from one store to another, begging for jobs that simply aren't there. Some even sell their land or property, especially in Punjab, thinking they'll find a better life here. But right now, it's just not worth it. When I advise others, they think we're living the dream in Canada while trying to stop them from coming. I moved to Canada 12 years ago, and the country has changed beyond recognition.

The amount of delivery / courier / truck drivers that, when they arrive at my workplace, can't (or won't) speak English is unreal. When no one speaks their language they get on the phone and put someone who can on speaker. Eats up a lot of extra time especially when they're not even at the correct address, yet somehow are rude and get angry insisting they are. Eats up a lot of time needlessly. \n\nCanada is pretty buggered, and I think we as a nation are already too far-gone, eh?

I am watching this video from Canada and I have 4 words for you - “DO NOT COME HERE!!!” Everything that was mentioned in the video is absolutely true. Canada is facing many problems, unaffordable housing, broken healthcare systems, homeless people, drugs. I am always scared to walk in downtown at night when I’m returning from work. And the worst part is, you cannot even defend yourself here if a homeless person is attacking you. If you do that you will be prosecuted saying that why did you touch that homeless guy and it is a violation of human rights, which is stupid. So does that mean that we should just let a random homeless person kill us?? How does that make sense?? My friend who was having an asthma attack had to sit in the emergency room for 8 hours. If something would have happened, who would be responsible? And the list just goes on. And what does the Canadian prime minister do about that….? Let a guy be a girl and a girls become a guy? What does that even mean??? I have nothing against the LGBTQ people. That’s your life do whatever you want, I don’t care. But there are so many other issues going on in the country and the government is focusing on allowing people to change their genders !! \nAnd the worst part is that a portion of the tax we pay from our hard earned money goes to the homeless people. And what do they do? Buy drugs and start attacking random people. I really feel sorry for this country and the people of this country. \nI always respected my county, India but now I really feel that the sense of security, belongingness, our culture is amazing !!! \nIf anyone is planning to come to Canada for studies, please think again. And if you have already booked your flight, all the best….its going to be extremely tough.

This is the main issue in Canada. We are stuck in so many ways. Our economy is the worst in the G7, so we need to mass import migrants to artificially increase our GDP. But with that, our cost of living will artificially stay high from the increased demand on the housing. All while suppressing wages. All while our government refuses to increase our key natural exports, like crude oil, or nuclear materials. We really are in shambles. Really we need to rip the band aid off, and pause all migration from india for the next five years, not even allowing chain migration. Maintain a manageable rate of legal migration (the US normally has 1 million migrants a year as a high, to a population of 300 million). While getting our pipelines built. Stop the woke shit that is destroying us. Right now every housing project requires an 18 month pause to make sure that the native lands are recognized through a corrupt archeological study (ever since the residential school mass grave hoax). Build houses like crazy, allowing for one additional farm land residential severance. And then stop the regulatory suppression from the federal government on corporations. We have zero money being invested into Canada and it will lead to us having a worse economic outlook than Mexico in less than ten years. Imagine the world thinking of Canada as a third world country. That's where we are heading without some serious shift in how we approach our policy.

It kinda suproses me that people think canada is so interesting that they would make extremely well researched videos about the housing crisis. I didn't think word of that even got out of the country. as a Canadian who knows almost nothing about this crisis other than our country is letting in a couple too many immigrants.

Canada is also a place where being a criminal is far more honorable and beneficial to local communities. Because that illegal money flows into local economies. Not to mention their medieval justice system, you can be charged for crimes based on some random persons complaint even if they're wrong, basically depending on your demographic you can have the system weaponized against you. The problem is greed stupidity and corruption. we think that voting for some other vegetable in a suite is going to change anything. we flip flop between 2 parties that both serve themselves and their buddies. We need to start over and build a system that has rules based on logic and totally blind to who they apply to. Canadais a joke and the people are powerless and don't do a thing about it. Lazy cowardly little sheeple. I was born here and I hate it... Ya wanna know who thinks canada and canadians are loved worldwide and who think their country is the most liberal and advanced.. Canadians do! And them alone. I renounce my Canadian citizenship. If a revolt ever rises up I'll be there. it's time to do something or we might as well all just crawl into our overpriced cages and just sleep and forget about equality and freedom and all those nice things. We have to get over ourselves and do the hard work that is required of us. Stop squabbling over the crumbs that are dropped onto the floor for us and go after the whole thing!! I dare you Canada, to stand up and actually take responsibility for all the dumpster fires that are burning out of control all across this shit show of a country!!!

People miss these because theyre so fast to jump that youre a racist if you say anything about it. \n\nTheyre not assimilating, like how we did. Theyre nice people but theyre not respecting the cultures around them. Everywhere I turn, it’s them speaking loudly over phonecalls. Some of them dont even speak a lick of english. You cant blame people for thinking that theyre trying to create a second India within Canada. \n\nTheres NO BALANCE. Im not saying hating them is justified because it’s not. It’s the fact most of them have this mentality, which overwhelms everyone around them. It’s so bad, the other Indians that are doing theyre best to assimilate also gets attacked.

I was really lucky to visit Toronto in 2000-2002 and practice some Portuguese and Italian. The first time, I came by train from Chicago and arrived at 1 AM. I was scared as I waited for the trolley on Dundas St. But to my surprise there was a young lady enjoying the late night and she even talked to me (something that wouldn't happen in Southern CA). I discovered that if was safe to walk until 2 AM in Toronto. It was really pleasant to explore Little Portugal, Chinatown and other neighborhoods. I remember that it hit the 30s with some humidity, but the reward was taking a bus to Niagara Falls at 50% off for being a student. However, I was sad to discover that the old transportation is gone, and prices have skyrocketed (food and hotels). It's not just Covid-19, but the corruption of thousands of politicians in NorthAmerica that have started wars and the flow of drugs and people. I would never think that Canada could change so drastically. But I still think that Toronto could be enjoyable ( what I really didn't like was the subway, since the stations are far away from important sites as opposed to Montréal that is so convenient). I still remember how Pearson airport was enjoyable to walk. But to see encampments like LA, SD or SF in Toronto is really sad. Hopefully, in the near future it gets cleaned up. You can't destroy what took decades to build and admire in a few years. Safety is always a concern in 2024, but Toronto is much better than CA.

If immigration is so wonderful, and good for the economy, I think India should more of it. Bring in millions of Chinese, Arabs, and Africans in to take over your towns. They can pretend that those towns are the countries they left with their language, culture, religion, etc, and you can even create government programs to assist them with your tax dollars as they do it. You wouldn't mind, would you? Celebrate it!

Imagine of even thinking of leaving. Not true Canadians. ?

I am resident of America and for past two years I spend a lot of time in research of geo-economy, geo-politicaly, socialy and my canclusion of this research is no more sustainability in western worrld and europen counties. because decline of the dollar status and many issues currently America going throuh recession to depression thats why business are filling bankrupsy and close down, inflation is going higher and higher, fiscal deficit ( Debt) of the country is incresing 1 trillion $ in every 3 month so fiat currancy Dollar is going to end very soon at it actual value. and before this coming election so many caos will be in the country. and it is seeing now in all university and colleges campuses.Indians are targeted 10 indian students murderd in last four months and there is no suspect arrested by police custody. southern borders are open for welcoming illigals. more than 8 million illigales are enterd in country. so as a Bhartiya my suggesion to my brothers and sisters who ever craze to go abroad do not come. coming years this country offer you guys, green card even citizanship also will be offering but dont trap into that and I request parents of those whos children living here, do not force them or motivate them for struggle. this is the final call for all Indian student and non resident indian enough time to go back otherwise you can't survive here and it is red signal for Indian student about their live. this is the reality if belive or not that is your choice.\nI studid deep dive into root and I find that abrahamic religion thinking model of economics Capitalism, marxist, and socialism are faild and new Bharat is emrging c to the sanatan economics model which is proven track record of 27% growth thats why anciant Bharat was called as sone ki chidiya. \nAs a NRI and resercher my view is western world slating towrds big disaster within 5 years right now their economies are going very critical condition thats why inflation is very high right now. so my advise to all indians who mesmerised by social media or friend, relatives, do their research work before come to western world, but I said not come and for NRI my advise is this is correct time to come back India otherwise they will literlly crying and will be seeking help from Indian Government for come back to India

most newcomers to any country struggle especially since most are not bringing in wads of cash to start a business but literally scraping in using life savings just to get here - however once here with residential status a national health care and level of income security for unemployment benefits is an added bonus which you won't get in every country regardless of residency status but refugees and others come in with no money at all as well as problems in some cases with language barriers, but as bad as everyone thinks it is the grass is not greener on the other side just because you're paying lower taxes but privatising infrastructure only makes things more expensive even when you're not taxed.... and Canada is a huge country with very limited number of tax payers such a small market would double costs for private business too - and just cos things may be cheaper you may find you don't fit as well as you thought..... and also the more you move the less time you have to settle and grow into the space you find yourself now....I've lived in 3 very different countries so I understand how difficult it is.... and how some places regardless of cost just fit better than others.... I love Toronto... but would not want to live in Vancouver or Texas for very different reasons... and don't judge a city by people who don't know how privileged they are to live in Toronto or anywhere in Canada really they should try living in India or Russia or even South Africa... places may be cheap but the lifestyle isn't worth much as a result of being failed states - even USA is falling apart road by road bridge by bridge.....of course there's hope for all of them eventually.... but if you don't like it it's probably best you leave.... if you don't want Canada why would Canada want you.... your just bringing the nation into disrepute

I've been living in Canada for the last 10 years ( came here as an international student), and now applying for my permanent residency. Went through high school, post secondary, and now working a full-time job in my field of study. I would say it's long overdue for Canada to scale down on its immigration policies (yes, I've had this thought even when I was a student so anyone who thinks I switched teams can shut up). There are simply not enough houses to accommodate Canadian, let alone immigrants. A lot of them only work minimum wage jobs which neither help the country with shortages in other fields nor their careers in the long term, and overall it gives immigrants a bad rap in the eyes of Canadian citizen. The recent changes in immigration imo is a good first step in the right direction.\n\nEdit: Also I'd like to add that if you're leaving your own home country to join another for a better life, it's your responsibility to adapt and contribute to their society, not the other way around. If you can't do that, stay in your home country.
