The whole reason for this threat of tariff is that Mexico does nearly nothing to protect the border. I’d suggest taxing any cash outflows wired to Mexico or any other countries not interested in solving this problem.

Do anyone knows the reason why Mexico allows millions of illegal people to enter and travel across the country to enter the US and the government never stop those people? Let's say that Haiti has border with the US and the U S allow millions of Haitians to cross the country in their way to the Mexican border and the US doesn't try to stop them . Mexico is aiding and abetting this invasion by issuing temporary travel visas to migrants to cross through their country to the US border. If they overstay the temporary visa, they are deported from Mexico. What Trump should do is tell the Mexican leader to take back these 20 million that they let in, and after they do this, the 25% tariff will be lifted. Then once they take the 20 million back into Mexico, we should drop the 25% tariff and up the tariff to 50% to recoup the money we wasted on the illegals. They play dirty with us, so skrew em.

I mean if items go up in price that come from other countries and chemicals will be gone out of food the food price will cost the same cause they’ll get rid of the spending on other chemicals I mean it will help tightening border cross from South and north so that will help a lot of people coming here cause everything might get more expensive people with out papers will want to leave ?

Every border has two sides. The police forces on both sides of the border should prevent illegal activities. And Mexico does nothing! I lived on the border of two European friendly countries long time ago, and it was a lot of respect for security from both sides, the constant traffic across the bridges was well controlled, but all illegal activities could be met with deadly force!

In conclusion, Tariffs are affective because these greedy American and Foreign corporations use cheap labor to make cheap goods that they then sell for major profit. Tariffs tend to make these companies movie to America create American Jobs and pay higher American salaries which are a significant savings over tariffs. The companies lose considerable profits but they gain market share because they understand that when you raise the price of goods you only make the American alternative more appealing.

Tariffs are an effective negotiation tool Trump used during his first term. Mexico does very little with cartels who run the border. They don't stop the trains and caravans coming through their country or enforce the stay-in-Mexico rule but...they will on Jan 20th, 2025.

If we, as Americans, were to move to another country, like Sweden, we would be required to go through the process of becoming legal citizens. Every country in the world enforces its borders, so why is it considered wrong when we do the same?

It feels so foolish to keep trying bandaid solutions that harm the US labor pool. There's a couple of things I keep thinking about in regards to this. \n\n1. Most developed countries on earth are in the midst of or are preparing to deal with population crisis and depopulation. Strong immigration to the US stems this issue and is actually a huge advantage to the power and continuing visibility of the USA.\n\n2. Deportation and border control strike at the effect of immigration and leave the cause unharmed. People come to the USA because there's opportunities here, so why not make opportunities abroad?\n\nIf the USA were to remove benefits of dealing with china while offering massive incentives for moving manufacturing away from china directly to Latin America, not only would we be countering our Chinese dependency but we would also provide jobs at home and stem immigration. Not only that, but the businesses would be American and be controlled by Americans - a huge incentive to stay friendly to the USA.\n\nI don't know, just seems like our current policy and especially what Trump is suggesting are counter productive and stuck in a bygone way of thinking.

I am from Poland and I understand perfectly well the need to protect the borders and to deport people who have ILLEGALLY entered the country.\nThe only places to cross the country's borders should be border crossing points and airports. With the right set of documents to legalise your stay.\nNo exceptions.

You really did a piss poor job here of distinguishing the difference between legal and illegal immigration. I'm completely on board with legal immigration (within reason). The US is a nation of immigrants. That does not, however, mean I support it being an open field day at the borders for illegals to come pouring into the country completely indiscriminately and unchecked. The administration won’t deport every illegal immigrant, it won’t even come close. They’ll go after criminals and it will ramp up border security to slow the influx of new immigrants and allow the country to absorb the current immigrants

There are probably 20 million illegal immigrants in our country since 2020.
