People do believe immigrants can contribute. Canadians are not opposed to immigrants but the pace of immigration, the housing shortage, lack of infrastructure, social services and our health care and the costs of all these services with high interest rates. How many immigrants are skilled trades people and willing to work in construction. What are the barriers to immigrants being employed in these sectors and is this being addressed.

Canada has done a piss poor job historically in creating conditions where immigrants are recognized for the education and experience they bring in their own chosen professions. Among the many barriers is the question that is explicitly or implicitly asked - ‘What is your Canadian experience?’ The recertification process for a number of professions is arduous and designed to keep immigrants from picking up their professional careers. This country wants immigrants to fill jobs that are low paying and increasingly hard to fill with Canadians born here. \n\nAsk any immigrant who is a doctor, banker, architect, civil engineer and who had a high position and status in their home country which level they have been asked to start at - if at all given the opportunity- at the very bottom. \n\nThe skilled immigrant story is very different in the United States of America. Easy to certify and relicense, respect for experience already accumulated by the immigrant in home country.

The feds try to attract immigrants but at the same time the moment you step into Canada as a professional immigrant, your degree or previous foreign credentials turn into garbage. ? And the feds entice you to turn into the skilled trades cuz that is what they need, instead of foreign trained doctors or nurses etc.

Follow same immigration policy as scandinavia. Immigration only for skilled workers who can speak english or french well. No chance of PR for 10 years. Prove you want to be canadian before we make you canadian.

Canada's immigration used to be based on bringing in skilled people who could add something to our country , now they are letting everybody in especially people that don't have employable skills and once they receive citizenship they bring Mom and Dad who after being here for a few years and not contributing to paying taxes are allowed the old age pension , free healthcare that tax paying citizens have pay towards their entire working life , now that doesn't sound very fair to me . People wonder why others are so bitter towards immigration , I think this pretty much sums it up . Exactly how many taxi drivers does one country need .

We all know that the core of the problem is an immigration policy (not the immigrants) which is completely disconnected from the rest of the picture. Immigration targets have not been built in conjunction with housing and transportation programs, and it would seem that we are not bringing in the sort of labour we actually need - skilled trades ready to build homes. It rather seems that immigration policy has been crafted in lock-step with fiscal and monetary policy in order to push back on wages and expedite the financialization of everything, especially housing. In short, it seems to be part of the plan to move towards a digital feudalism, where capitalists are vassals of the owners, who make their money through rent-seeking.

The immigrants should have to work Atleast 2 years in same place as the university they finished with, not use their skills and go back to their country.

No wonder everything is getting so expensive and housing and rent is going through the roof. almost 1/2 million new residents a year? Where is all the infrastructure and housing for that coming from? The gov needs to put the brakes on immigration and lets things stabilize for a while jesus. My guess is that the quality immigrants with skills and options leave and the Uber drivers stay.

Hmmm not surprising Trudeau took over at the end of 2015 and Canada's Immigration Retention index placing dropped from 9th in 2016 to 15th in 2021! But of course it's the best talented ones that have something to offer that will leave and we're being overrun with less skilled ones from 3rd world countries that Trudeau lets in by the hundreds of thousands helping him turn this country into a disaster. We need to get back to less immigration and more selective with high skilled immigrants more compatible with our society like Europe, US, Commonwealth countries.

The housing pricing in Canada are pretty insane. The value of my 900 SF condo in Victoria has doubled in the past 10 years. I don't know how anyone gets into the market today when you add in inflation for regular goods over the past couple years. I know it's become a hot button in parliament of late, and the government seems to be trying to spearhead more housing, but they are pretty late.\n\nI'm also a little surprised that a majority of conservatives don't think the immigration levels are too high. But I suspect that has gone down of late with the said housing issues. More skilled workers is better for Canada overall, and will generally drag wages up, but housing has to keep pace so costs don't escalate more than wages.

I honestly don’t see how increasing numbers of newcomers and international students could help build more houses in Canada. The point based immigration system has nothing to do with construction or trades workers. You now need to have at least master’s or PhD degree, speak both English and French and have 3 years of skilled experience to be able to qualify for express entry in Ontario. Is that a profile of someone who wants to live here and build houses, seriously?

Canada doesn't need simplified bureaucracy or an international marketing manager to correct immigrants leaving. Canada's problem is that it's not a growing economy and skilled foreign labour coming over doesn't want to work menial jobs. Stimulate sectors, create growth, and that'll attract immigration.

I don't blame immigrants for leaving - they are making logical decisions based on the costs of being here exceeding the benefits. Ultimately, this will be damaging as we will lose the immigrants with skills that can contribute to society. The ones that stay will be the unskilled, non-contributors that don't have options.

Just try to be a bit more selective when it comes to immigrants. Language and employable skills should have preference. Letting everyone in that weasels over the (American!!) border is not helping, it’s adding to shortages. This government and its virtue signalling is going to be the end of what once was Canada.

The sad part of this is that it's the immigrants that we want that are dragging up and leaving, the ones with degrees in medical and engineering. The ones with skilled trades and abilities. \n But sadly all we will get to stay are the dregs of society that came here looking for a free ride and hands out! My wife works with immigrants to help them deal with various problems adapting, finding housing, cars, translating,etc. Over time we’ve become friends with the community. The Venezuelans have stood out as very fine potential citizens. Their plight is especially dire. Most were skilled professionals driven from their country by massive inflation, and they lost everything they had as a result. Homes, cars, savings. You can’t rebuild a country when all the government is broken and you can’t feed your family. They will make fine citizens.

I have been in Canada for more than 20 years. The cost of living is very high. Housing in Toronto is very expensive, it is better in small towns.\n\nThe most important thing is to come here as a skilled worker. The Canadian immigration website has all the information. \n\nLife overall in Canada is not bad. The government really takes care of the people. Schools are free, and so is health care. As many people has said in the comments section. Foreign countries are not easy especially for new immigrants. One has to have the right documentation to be able to live and work. People definitely has to do their research before paying those agents thousands of dollars and empty promises about Canada. Jobs are there but you have to be skilled, otherwise one will end up in factory Jobs where they pay minimum wages making it extremely difficult to make ends meet.

I’m in Canada and I would say that’s misinformation. That’s happening in only two provinces Toronto and Vancouver as cost of living has risen. The rest of provinces are affordable and jobs are readily available. High skill requirements is kinda true and lie at the same time. Not all jobs here require high skills. Some jobs just require basic skills and those are the highest jobs available. New immigrants all they need is to get the immigration papers straight and move to affordable provinces to start a life. You don’t have to start a life in Toronto or Vancouver the most expensive provinces. People will always need to immigrate. I can assure you many people that have migrated are more successful than these few mishaps that happens everywhere even back home. Moving to Canada from Kenya is the best decision I have ever made in my life. Canada is one of the best countries you should ever move in.

1. Canada's immigration is primarily skilled labour. Non- skilled labour is imported mostly from the Carribean countries especially Jamaica and you have to leave every year and come back in the next. So, that can be disruptive, but I've met Jamaican's who've been on those programs and done well as well as those who haven't.\n2. If you come to Canada illegally utakipata. Be prepared to hustle for long.\n3. Since Covid everything has become very expensive especially housing. \n4. The videos you've shown of people sleeping outside is because of an increase in the influx of refugees wanting to come to Canada. Refugee shelters are allocated money in the budget for what the Govt estimates will be the number of refugees they'll take in, but there's been an influx lately.\n- A point to note though, ALL refugees Canada received from Ukraine had jobs within 2 months. Why? very skilled labour.\n- Canada's refugee policy is much more lenient than in the US and thus most refugees have been coming to Canada even from the US. The US ones have since been blocked by an agreement signed by both countries.\n5. Are there jobs in Canada? YES, but they require certain skills. The good thing is that once you get one, its the beggining of good fortunes.\n6. If you have skilled qualifications, be prepared to start at a lower level than you are used to and claw your way up. Just don't expect to start where you left off. A Nigerian friend of mine who had performed several surgeries in Nigeria could not be hired until he went back to get certified here in Canada. Hi Lynn, this is a very interesting conversation. I moved to Canada in 2003 went to college and became a nurse. First of all it was not easy paying for college I was lucky that husband was supporting with the bills as I went to school. So I would say that I have skills that are very marketable. Our combined family income was over $100,000 CAN. We mortgaged our first home which was very basic for a LOT of money. We had our kids and we had to struggle with childcare as most young families do. By North American standard, we were doing good. We each had a good car ( loaned), we made trips to Kenya every so often but in 2016 we decided we wanted to move back home and we sold our home and we did. I HAVE NO REGRETS. There were several things that made us reach our decision. First, I truly believe that for the Canadian system to work as it does, it has to entrap its residents. Even after 10 years of work we did not have money in the bank. Everything we owned really belonged to the bank. The light bulb moment for me came when I evaluated my net worth. A primary school teacher in Kenya after 10 years of work with good financial management will own a plot, a simple house and will start to invest for retirement. After 10 years of work, there wasn't much in the account, our house would need 25 years to finish paying mortgage and to be honest there wasn't much to show for those years of work. Quality of life really sucks the amount of stress will definitely send you to the grave sooner. This is the case for most first generation immigrants. You might say you are sacrificing and building a future for your children but, my observation was since our diaspora children have not grown in Kenya to see the need for money and what life really looks like without the comforts they are used to, they do not have the same drive as the parents so they often do not excel they are just ordinary. There is also the struggle of growing up as a minority group. A lot of our children because they are seeking acceptance will struggle with self esteem, will have depression or will join the LGBTQ community where they get sense of belonging regardless of their colour. The morals are also different from their parents and they are shaped by the society they grow up in. When I looked at what my life would look like if we kept living there, lets say we eventually pay off our mortgage, when we are old and requiring care, our children will not be able to support themselves and support us because they have to work to sustain themselves so we would to move to assisted living or nursing homes. The cost of senior care is not covered by the government unless you have no money. so we have to sell out home which would be old and outdated but still very expensive and we would have to pay $5000-$10000 per month depending on the type of care we need. so as you can see if we ended in a nursing home for 5 years we will have depleted all the money we made from the sale of our home. So by the time we die, we would not have money to leave for our children. So we worked really hard, supported the economy, and die leaving not much at all for our children, we sacrificed our quality of life, and ended up with children who don't think much of themselves or have very distorted morals. I still remember in my mind as we drove to the airport on our way back to Kenya, I thought of the story of Lot. He was pretty successful in Sodom but I'm very sure on his death bed he had lots of regrets why he ever went there. I know its tough being in Kenya but if you have a job or any way to make ends meet, be like Abraham. God will bless you regardless of whether you are in the dessert.

When you immigrate, to get any Govt service like a Driving License, School admission, and even a job, you need a social security/insurance number. That number is pegged on your entry visa. If you are a visitor, you have to convince the Govt why they should let you work? If you are a student, it is limited the number of hours you work. Any employer is obligated to employ only those with credentials. If you are coming for work, like Nurses do, employers will have done your paperwork. Green cards are one legal way to immigrate. If you have legal papers, you make your way around without issues. Cost of living varies on location. As for skills, you need them, get them over time. There are good and bad stories, even locals who mess up end up in crap like an illegal immigrant would.

What I know is yes life in Canada is hard for Canadian. \nThey always complain why immigrants keep coming.\nCanada has enough people to work here they don’t need you to come from out to work. \nWorking in Canada need good skills and Canadian diploma.\nBut cause people will continue to come anyway let me tell you what to do. \n1 . Don't fully undertand skills. They think acdemic papers and some random corporate jobs equals skills. Lets call skills, trades and ICT expertise; carpenters, plumbers, nurses, teachers have a better chance than some bank manager in Kenya. \n\n3. Rely too much on youtubers with random clips on things they need to train in like nursings and such over a short period then land in Canada and get a job. It doesn't work like that. Am a kenyan Canadian and living in canada is the best decision I have ever taken. Lot of kenyan are paying agencies to come to canada through visit permit. People should blame agencies who promise them jobs not canada government . When you come to canada through visit permit you need to change to work permit or study permit. Actually there are thousands of kenyan who have come through visit permit and they are claiming refugee status. Canadian Government is doing its part by giving all claimed refugees shelter and give the money for upkeep. When you have visit permit you can't work in canada but you can convert it to work permit which is not easy but an expensive process. You need to get a company that can process you lMIA that labour market Impact assessment . You need skills to get a company to apply you Lmia or uende China ya maji you pay Indians who have companies in kenya $30-$40 to apply for you lmia. Or you can convert your visit permit to study permit and universities here are damn expensive. Getting a Canadian to marry you for status is very hard. In short am trying to say if you do not come through work permit or landed immigrants life wil be tough use the money you are paying agencies to start something in your country. They are so many opportunities in canada if you have the right papers or status. As for me am a happy single mom who as accomplished alot here and I love canada .

Each of the things you mention are also the reason why Canadian wages are pathetic, while cost of living is on average higher then the US. There’s a surplus of skilled workers, Canada don’t really need more engineers, they just end up driving Uber.\nAlso, the country quotas sound discriminatory but they’re just common sense, and the US understood this while Canada plays the politically correct game. Obviously, if a poor country has 1.4 billion people it will soon become the main source of immigrants. This creates social tension and it’s surely not what “diversity” is about, since there is no diversity when all those crazy numbers of immigrants come from one country

Canada has been ridiculously good to me and for me, even as I appreciate that this is not the average experience. I came here 36 years ago, when there were jobs looking for people, and not the other way around. Back then we had the choice to skill up some more or go in full force in careers, which worked for many of us. I can see how tough it would be for new immigrants now, especially professionals who were already established back in Africa not wanting to get re-validated in order to practice here. That is a journey best played out by new engineers, doctors and other crucial professions where they have time on their side and not feel like they are giving up much to start from scratch. Canada is great but each person has to weigh their reason for wanting to be here. If the scales tip this way, then one has to fully commit to the move to make it work. Otherwise, truly look to make that success happen wherever you are ..... Africa, Asia or Australia. It IS possible!

Canada has been my dream country to immigrate all my life as skilled worker, I tried severally but visa was denied, my uncle referred me to an authorised immigration consultant, I was sceptical about immigration consultants because of their fraudulent act but I decided to give him a try, I contacted him and started my work visa processing with Mr Daniel Liam, he guided me all through luckily my visa was approved. I migrated successfully to Canada in January 2022

I was an immigration consultant up until this June 2023. I stopped as I don’t believe in our immigration system anymore. It is not representative and how the government shows itself to be. The immigrants they brought into Canada in the last two year didn't help the housing issues we were already facing, The government dropped the ball on housing years before they allowed so many in Yes Canada need skilled workers but not in the technology field, Canada need blue collar workers the most plus Nurses and Doctors Teachers.

Age is an important factor while considering immigration. For folks less than 30, Canada will offer you a great opportunity if you are focus and knows how to develop your skills or career. For Folks that have worked the better part of their lives in their home country, say from age 40, DO NOT sell all you have worked for back home and bring the money to Canada, the system here is designed to swallow all that money in a short time. For these group of people do not immigrate because you want a better life for your children, but your primary focus will be what can I do in a short possible time that can earn you money to survive this economy. Housing is the most important factor and do a lot of research on where to settle that will fit your income and provide better job. Also make sure you are re-trainable. Be prepared and that includes all members of your family. Wife and husband and all their adult children must be ready to hit the ground running and find whatever job within a short possible time. Paying bills become a less burden if all members of the family are contributing their own share. It is not like back home where the man is the brad winner and takes care of others responsibilities.

I live in Canada from last 11 years. I was super happy when Trump government wanted to create skilled based immigration system same like Canada express entry system (Canada started it in 2014). I wish I wasn’t Canadian sometimes because of the influx of migrants that put too much pressure on our limited ability to integrate them. Partly due limited housing, especially on lower income supply. I know it’s not their fault for trying to get a better life. My recent exposure to the new wave of immigrants many are uncultured when they first arrive, Also adding stress to our failing healthcare system. Some are scamming the employment & welfare system, and get more financial assistance from the government than the people born and raised in the country. I’m embarrassed at the failure of Canada and its government to give not only the Canadians good governance and proper quality of life, but the new migrants whom we welcome the ability to not just survive but thrive. Personally I believe that immigrants should be forced away from the densely populated areas to the other provinces and territories that actually require their skills and expertise.

This may be accurate from presentation part, but see the actual reality, if canada is that much attractive for skilled immigrants, it should be world leader in technology or manufacturing but it is not as life is very harsh here. For most professional except IT your education is not valid or you have to go through very length process of validating your education and getting in main stream to get the job some time it takes years of continuous job like effort. Salary structure is garbage compared to USA. It is impossible to find an affordable house or apartment which you can rent, forget about buying.. Tax system is upto moon. Healthcare is broken and on top of that Black money is dumped from all over the world in real estate. Canada is a broken country and it heavily relying on international students and wealth immigrants to run their country. You are welcome here if you have shit load of money otherwise think 100 times before you come to this country.
