Canada, we are sorry. 49 % of our voters lost their mind. Prime Minister of Canada is right, no one wins a trade war. Nor is this war or the trade war with Mexico is justified.

Screw Canada... trade war is fine..

We will take your products, join the EU and have free access to our markets at a discount. Welcome Canada, thank you for saving us in WW2, welcome to the EU, we are alike in mentallity, manners, worldviews and strategic interests. Europe loves Canada, please send your raw products to Europe and we wil share the profits together, instead of hog all profits and forcing to sell at lower prices like US, with tarifs as a thank you. \n\nAs a thank you trade will boom, we have many products you need to develop greenhouses, refine your own crude oil and start gas installations. Welcome Canadians, we finally get to repay you after so many years, let us treat you well! Kind regards, Europe!

Agent Orange Lord Voldemort started the trade war. The rest of us Americans(who have common sense and didn’t vote for him) are just getting pulled right into it. It sucks feeling you have no control over what the moron in the White House and his minion morons do with our government.

USA is a consumer society. If USA wants to bring the deficit down then it should consume less. By the way following are the deficits US have by each country in order. Why trymp is not targeting Vietnam, Germany Ireland Japan or South Korea?
\n
\nChina $295.35 B
\nMexico $171.86 B
\nVietnam $129.38 B
\nGermany $88.01 B
\nIreland $87.23 B
\nJapan $72.35 B
\nSouth Korea $69.92 B
\n
\nCanada has $63.3 B trade deficit and mainly due to oil demands in US. All US has to do was to buy less oil from Canada and it would have worked out. US coming after Canada and putting an economic war because it want to acquire Canada. He is learning land grabbing from his friends, you know who is grabbing land in world from sovereign countries.
\n
\nThis may be the last election US had.

Trump don't need Trudeau's lecture on trade and economy.

Trudeau grandstanding that the Canadian people will stand together. Rewind a few short years was he not the guy who’s Covid restrictions had truckers out on masse. He’s wrong if he thinks he will win a trade war with trump

Wrong Mr. Trudeau:\n\nThe AMERICAN VOTERS listened to Trump and chose to vote for him. They are the ones you need to tell:\n\nYOU voted for this leader, YOU created this trade war. \n\nVOTE BETTER next time!

Excuse me, but when you already enjoy a massive trade surplus, you're GUARANTEED to lose a tariff war. What an idiot.
|

the current trade deal with Canada and Mexico is something trump bragged about when he negotiated & signed it 6 years ago. Trump called it the USCMA. Less than 1% of fentanyl comes across the northern US border. we can't refine light crude oil we pull out of the ground here so we buy more than 50% of our heavy crude oil and natural gas from Canada. Canada will turn off the pipes and sell the heavy oil and NG to Europe. The second oil supply was Mexico who plans to sell their oil in Europe too. It will be extra cold in the midwest and east coast this winter without fuel oil.

It’s comical for Canadian government to think it has any power to make threats of an economic crisis in the United States. You’re economical stability and military protection revolves around trade from the United States. The deficit needs to be equal or your the grifters not the American tax payers footing the bills to keep your country from collapse.America will be just fine without crooks like Trudeau.

From an American citizen, GIVE TRUMP HELL CANADA!!! Please make new trade partners and new alliances. Cut the US out and off completely. This is going to hurt Americans very badly, as you say. Trump is sick. He is a want to be dictator. He wants to be like Putin, and like Xi Jinping, Kim Jong Un, and Erdogan! This may very well be the end of American as world leader... This may be our very end.

Boycott America while they continue to support Russia and start trade wars with their friends\nShame on Americans

I can understand. Whoever signed the latest US / Mexico / Canada agreement is a real idiot! What North America needs is some kind of free trade agreement!

No winners in a trade war. No winners in a Trump America. \n\nCanadians should be proud of having a smart, wise, handsome, rational leader. Sadly, ours is the polar opposite, a bloated tragic excuse for a president. As one of MANY millions who voted for Kamala, we join Canadians in the fight against these ridiculous tariffs that Trump initiated. We're ashamed of him. This Trudeau speech is very very honorable and articulate and resolute.

Trump is in the process of destablizing the greatest trade relationships in world history, while he angers at least half of his own citizens. This all being done while turning on a country that was our allie until January of 2025. Now he has cut off aid to Ukraine, setting the stage for their defeat. Trump now carries responsibility for the possibllty Ukraine will lose the war. Trump's legacy in history will be of the greatest looser and worst president in the history of the United States of America.

I still can't believe that we are being attacked by our best ally. The country that is supposed to represent freedom. The US administration is behaving worse than Russia. The EU and North American allies have been abandoned and assaulted. The vacating of the leadership position in the free world will be taken advantage of by other countries. How much damage has to be done?\n\nTo the Canadian government: Open maximum trade to the EU and friendly countries in Asian the short fall must be attempted to be spanned.

Europe has just announced an 800 billion Euro defence plan; I bet they’d be very interested in Canada’s critical minerals. Canadians will not forget this; this has damaged our relationship with the U.S. and it may never recover. We cannot forget that Americans voted this man back into power knowing who and what he is; they somehow believed that he was magically going to lower the cost of eggs, end a war and save the economy. Canadians will never trust that Americans won’t again elect someone so stupid and pathetically unfit to lead their country; we have to start cutting the trade ties now so that we will never be this vulnerable again. I do agree with Dumpty that we need to pull our weight militarily, so we need to invest in our security and we also need to align ourselves with Europe since Dumpty is clearly aligning the U.S. with Russia.

Your General said this is isolating Canada. No it isn't. The UK, Europe and Asia are very open to trade. Indeed many have existing deals which can only grow.\n\nI hear that there are a great many frustrated Americans. Americans who don't want this trade war. Unfortunately Your commander in chief is Your voice on the World stage. His choices are effectively Your choices. HE represents your country. It's him we have to deal with, or not, as the case may be.\n\nUntil you can wrestle the House, the Senate and ultimately the Oval, off these walking-disasters The US with edge closer and closer to being a Paraiah state.\n\nGood luck with that. You're going to need it. The World is already making alternative plans wrt defence, trade and political ideology. All without the US... think about that....

Well spoken Mr Trudeau. I am proud to be Canadian. I feel sad for both countries. Can't believe that no judge is declaring the National Security argument as unjustified. I thought this was not possible to impose this without voting it properly if national security is not a real threat under the US constitution... And the argument of trade deficit is such a weird concept. Would Trump agenda be more evil here, and use economic force to force Canada to annex them because they want our resources?

“THERE ARE NO WINNERS IN A TRADE WAR!” I would defect to Canada any day! But because of a decision I made as a young man, I can not leave this country. I’m imprisoned in this tragic mess. Kudos to you Trudeau. Stand up for yourselves…. Be the sleeping giant. Proud of you all!

Good thing we have the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA)!! Lets use it in full force and send the US packing!

Prime Minister Trudeau is boldly hitting the nails on the head, and I admire his boldness and honesty as I've always admired Canada and its peoples. Trump is in the back pocket of the Russian dictator. His actions prove it to my satisfaction. Canada has been a staunch friend of the US, a real partner not just for economic benefits for both countries but for a democratic way of life. Canada is a strong democracy whose people are known for their open hearts and minds. I pray that this idiotic trade war started by a man who is subservient to Putin will come to an end. I say to Canadians, let us stick to our common values of democracy, free expression, peaceful borders, and our commitment to the greatest good of the many rather than the greatest good of the few and the Russian dictator.

This is really starting the trade war with the whole world- one country at a time. Let us see where this will lead us.

Well done CANADA. You have spoken clearly, letting the American people know, that it is the TRUMP GOVERNMENT that is causing the TRADE WAR. Trudeau spoke like a FREIND & ALLI who will not accept anything to do with a TRUMP/PUTIN deal. This is how to deal with a BULLY & A PERSON WHO IS UNTRUSTWORTHY like PRESIDENT TRUMP.

Im so sick of this clown… i thought you resigned? Its not ok to tariff “our closest friend?”\nYet canada is ripping us off by billions in trade and has zero control of their border? Is that how friends and allies act!!! The us isnt in desperate need of you canada\nAlso…. DONT EVEN TALK ABOUT RUSSIA AND PEACE OR WAR OR ANYTHING OF THE MATTER !!! YOU CANNOT EVEN PROTECT YOURSELF! We american pay to protect your pansy ass!!!

If trump thinks for a moment that he and putin can ally against the rest of the world in trade, or in any other way, he's delusional. Putin is NOT trustworthy and will renege on any agreements he makes, that's what he does.

We Americans have been mistreated by Canadians for a long time especially in Quebec. Hunters and fishermen who travel there have been harassed because we are Americans. Trying to whine to us and turn us against our government is futile. We, the vast majority of Americans have voted President Trump into office to do exactly what he is doing. Protecting our rights and businesses by forcing you to play fair. He will accomplish this whether you like it or not. The trade imbalance will become fair and balanced. I would ask your Countrymen to think about our offer of becoming the 51 st state. If not, you will undoubtedly realize that you need US more than we need you! Good luck not starving to death

I want out of this country, I'm watching my retirement lose money. I don't want to be in a trade war, I'm going to have to close my newly opened buisness. I did not vote for this administration, so many of us didn't. I'm sorry world.

Can we be clear here that Trump launched a trade war against Canada and NOT the United States?
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
It’s not a trade war, it’s about fairness.\n\nTrudeau, remember that you lack the capability to protect your country and its citizens. You need the USA more than we need you.

Trump went against the trade deal that he made with Canada and Mexico when he renegotiated the existing deal during his first term. Trump called his deal with them beautiful and perfect. Trump does not keep the deals he makes to other countries or to the Americans who voted for him. \n\nTrump's final push in his campaign was to cut costs for Americans at the checkout, chuckling at the strange sound of the word 'groceries' to him. He has never worried about or dealt with buying groceries. The moment he got back into office, he said that lower prices wasn't happening and that the American people would suffer. \n\nThen he and Republicans began cuts in jobs and government services to Americans as well as others in the world, so that no one can trust Trump --- and in the case of others in the world, it reflects so bad on the U.S. and against any trust in the U.S. anymore. No president has ever done so much damage at home and abroad so quickly. \n\nTrump is the Deceiver and the Destroyer. Trump doesn't care if his voters figure it out. They are no longer needed.

Canada won the hockey tournament and now the trade war, i feel bad for Trump ;s

The problem here isn't temporary. Tariffs may or may not be. But when Canada, Mexico, and other countries build alternate trade infrastructure and strike deals that exclude America, this becomes near irreversible and will hurt America's economy well after Trumps term. And that's just trade and economy.\n\nThen there are many relationships worldwide which are already affected, and world leaders are poised to move on without America - leaving it isolated. The US is the most powerful country in the world and can survive alone, but even so, no country flourishes without international partnerships that both parties can rely on. Like Putin, nobody can rely on Trumps word.\n\nHe is destroying everything. And the American public are largely sitting back and watching it. \n\nWake up before it's too late.

Trump is attempting to offset his tax cuts by implementing a tax that isn't called a tax. All of the money from the tariffs goes to the government. Trump has mentioned when tariffs were common as supporting what he is doing, but he doesn't add that at that time, there wasn't an income tax, so tariffs were how the government supported itself. Trump, knowing that tariffs are income for the government, is lying to his base so they will accept the increased prices as a necessary evil to battle the bad countries of Mexico and Canada. It will look like his tax breaks aren't hurting as much as they are and price increases will be the fault of the other countries.\n\nTrump is a conniving grifter with no knowledge of how to run a country's economy or international trade. He is gaslighting the American public to cover his own shortcomings.\n\nAlso, if fentanyl is entering the US, why is it the fault of the other countries? It is the job of the US to stop anything on its side of the border. Canada and Mexico do what they can to catch the drugs while inside their respective countries. The tons of cocaine and guns that enter Canada and Mexico from the US are caught by their border services; they don't blame the US for the products getting past their own border agents, and the US takes no responsibility for it making it across the border. Why is it other countries' fault for drugs getting past the US's border agents, but not the fault of the US that guns and drugs are going in the other direction? That is why countries work together, not fight over whose fault it is and try to punish each other.

Remember that all of this came from the fact that Trump believes that a trade deficit means we lose out when we are a heavily consumerist country. This is going to be a very interesting wake up call when the realization that most of our manufacturing requires outside materials.

Trudeau was being way too generous when he said Chump was smart. It’s evident that he’s not since he started the trade wars.

If we compare Trump’s tariff policies with the approach taken during Smooth-Hawley Tariff Act (1930), there are striking similarities and key differences in terms of economic impact and global consequences. Here’s a comparison:\n\nSimilarities:\n\t1.\tProtectionist Goals:\n\t•\tBoth Trump’s tariffs and the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act were implemented to protect domestic industries by imposing heavy tariffs on foreign goods.\n\t•\tSmoot-Hawley raised tariffs on over 20,000 imported goods, while Trump has imposed significant tariffs on China, Canada, Mexico, and the EU.\n\t2.\tRetaliation by Other Nations:\n\t•\tAfter the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, U.S. trading partners retaliated with their own tariffs, leading to a massive decline in U.S. exports.\n\t•\tTrump’s tariffs are already facing retaliation from Canada, Mexico, China, and the EU, which could slow down global trade.\n\t3.\tMarket Instability & Economic Risk:\n\t•\tThe Smoot-Hawley tariffs are widely believed to have exacerbated the Great Depression by restricting global trade and worsening economic conditions.\n\t•\tTrump’s tariffs are triggering stock market declines, price inflation, and global trade tensions, raising fears of a potential recession.

AMERICA IS FCKD!! You may be able to survive a trade war with Canada, you may be able to survive a trade war with Mexico and China, you may be able to survive sending millions of undocumented, necessary workers home but you can't survive it all at once.\n To make your situation even more dire you are busily alienating all your allies while sucking up to murderous dictators who will happily knife you in the back at the first opportunity. \nAll this because your country is full of stupid, hateful people who just couldn't stand the thought of a black female president. \nFAFO.

Starting this trade war is not only the craziest political decision I have seen in my entire life, it destroys the relationship between the US and its closest allies on purpose. A relation that has been built over decades. People and businesses on both sides of the pond will suffer badly from this idiotic agenda for no real reason. The USA is now officially at trade war with the free world.

I am not a fan of PM Trudeau but on this occasion, I'm willing to flipflop. Oh, my goodness, it's so refreshing to hear a country leader speak a coherent sentence, a coherent thought structure, zero vanity tripping, berating opponents, finger-wagging, screeching accusations, tantrums. And then in a second language!!! Just because I'm not one of HIS fans, I am however a massive fan of Canada. I support Canada in this situation 100%. A trade war IS dumb, and even dumber with your closest ally and neighbor. Dumb and Dumber all in one go.... wowzah....so much winning?.

I always thought trump is the Manchurian candidate . Slowly destroying within . Just surprised or not that ordinary American can’t figure that out. Stay strong Canadian , time to trade with eu

After a speech like this, discourse and solutions are supposed to follow. It's how we work with peers in school, it's how business allies work.\n\nInstead, Trump may see this as a harsh message and fire up the heat to turn this into a spectacle-- arguments, ego, threats. And then the actions will be reactions and attacks instead of solutions. i think the issue lies in that my statements-- no matter if you're Red or Blue, ring factually correct to Trump\ns behavior. he's not here to save citizens or solve issues. He is here for us to watch his reality TV show-- but it's also our own reality!! \n\nHOW IS THE US AND CANADA IN A TRADE WAR RIGHT NOW IN 2025!? I don't understand!!!
