I recently travelled to Oregon & Washington state to see a Canadian friend who married an American. I found the price of food to be very expensive or on par with Canada, plus the exchange rate. The busy freeways traumatized me. I was stressed about avoiding medical care or any legal issues during my trip. While visiting a popular beach resort town, I was surprised to observe Americans talking loudly on their cell phones, oblivious to the beauty of the ocean & everyone around them. I noticed rich locals driving their rare convertibles. I was relieved to come back to my life in Canada. \nP.S. my friend recently got COVID, $3000 medical bill to pay, & spent most of the time recovering at home - almost died ?

Came to Canada in 2008 (to Quebec). Got my family doctor (a team of doctors in the polyclinic) last year. Same for our kids, born here. Canada also doesn't acknowledge medical degrees or experience from other countries. They protect the salaries of the doctors by artificially limiting the number of doctors that can practice. Therefore doctors leave Canada... Electrical engineers also should avoid QC if they don't speak fluent French... Quebec is discriminating against the English speaking community and gets away with it. Anglophones in Quebec are also subject to higher unemployment...

I moved to usa in 2014 after leaving a good paying job in Kenya. Honestly I don’t regret it my kids are thriving especially with free education and good health care. Financially am never broke. I’ve invested in kenya comfortably. We can also comfortably afford to vacation outside usa. Meanwhile my former colleagues in Kenya even with pay rises they still get broke struggling with school fees and medical needs haven’t invested and can’t vacation outside Kenya. I moved to a cheaper state in usa where the cost of living is affordable. If you move to usa avoid expensive states.

I agree with you Lyn,its hard to start life in Canada,changing visas to work permits is very expensive also &need to find a willing employer to start the process(lmia),not easy tho..my advise ,when traveling make sure you have a host on this end or atleast enough money to enable you stay in a hotel .. also people should avoid cities like Toronto which are crowded,personally am loving it here opportunities are many...

To survive long time in Canada, one gotta be a criminal or smart person. A smart person plans ahead and avoids putting themseves in situations in which one gotta depend on handouts. Canada had always used immigration to prop the economy(legal Ponzi) and one can get nowhere without work/work permit.

Avoid going to western foreign countries through visits and expecting to work. Never, you will suffer and be frustrated..

Canada is good country thats for sure but use the right channels , avoid agencies that do it for money.

As a Kenyan American I can definitely relate to this video. Things have gotten really expensive here and people are deciding between buying necessities and being without, rent has sky rocketed, food and gas(petro) prices are ridiculous, coming with the right visa is important. A lot of agencies have been bringing Kenyan trained nurses here and they are very happy, green card lottery is another option. To avoid stress use the channels I listed above.

I immigrated to canada 1999 and canada have changed alot . Work opportunity are no near as good. Health care is awful. If you are struggling with mental health or any other medical problem good luck waiting for a veryyyy long time. The housing prices and rentals are extremely expensive. Taxes are high and prices are high as well. Social life is dead. U are a slave to ur job and bills. I live in alberta finding a job is a little easier then Ontario. Winter is very harsh. Honestly if ur living comfortably outside canada? Avoid coming to canada by all means. Life is verry hard here ?.

Canada won't be my choice in leaving my country, the west even in consideration but leaving the country isn't mostly due to financial struggles, it has something to do with the future and avoidance of insecurities and restrains due to the government in Nigeria in particular. Nigeria looks like all hope is going to be lost and no one wants to get trapped when that time comes, when they see themselves with alot of potential ahead of them. As a second generation Nigerian immigrant (parents were born in Nigeria and I was born in the US). I 100% agree w/ his perspective. I’ve spent consider amount of time in Nigeria w/ my side of the family that’s doing well and the other side that aren’t. Aboard should only be for people who have no opportunity back home as in they have tried everything and nothing worked for them. If you are doing well in Nigeria, try and give birth to your kids in the US so they can retrieve citizenship. There is no reason a successful person back home should sell their things and move aboard even for kids as you can send them aboard to receive an education and help them gain citizenship and from their they can file for you. The amount of systemic racism, odd jobs you will have to work (God forbid you don’t have a degree and you move aboard for non degree purposes that’s when aboard will show you pepper), cost of surviving is expense here especially now as inflation is high. It’s just not benefiting especially if you were better off in Nigeria. However, this shouldn’t stop you from coming just know that the road isn’t easy and some places are worse than others. I’ve never been to Canada but have been to the UK and by far would advice anyone from back home to avoid UK at all cost. Not even sure how Nigerians are even making it there lol (it’s a never ending cycle of poverty plus citizenship is very difficult to gain and the discrimination in my opinion is much worse than the US. UK society has a class system and it only really empowers British people. The UK is so bad that they even discriminate against Eastern Europeans that should let you know a lot.) Also why do you think most Brits Nigerians come back to Naija hoping to secure job compared to American Nigerians and let me tell you it’s not because the UK is close to Nigeria, there is a true lack of opportunity. If u need to be in the abroad for work then do dat and return home frequently to over look projects. When I'm forced to fly through the usa, I never leave the airport. Recently, the usa has become much worse than my present home. Much worse!

The USA is the last place I would move to if I left Canada. As an American living in Canada for almost 50 years, there is absolutely no way that I would consider moving back to the US at this time. The political environment has become so polarized and, quite frankly, I'm really worried that democracy is in jeopardy in the United States. I echo the sentiment of all those who have said that the gun culture, racism, misogyny, and lack of equal access to healthcare are all excellent reasons to avoid moving to the US.

Seemingly normal people are incredibly ignorant on some topics and have rabid beliefs based on virtually no logical data. They just believe it is because someone told them.
