I am not really a fan of the tariffs Trump is imposing like lightning with Canada. I do think they should stop the walk thought to Us boarder security. I think they should however be an equal partner in securing their boarder. I don’t believe it is as much of a fentanyl thing but maybe I don’t know enough details in that.

They think their tariffs will do a thing? US is their largest trading partner not the other way around. It will harm them significantly more than it will harm us. American trade accounts for only 24% of its massive GDP. if you removed all trade from america, it would still have larger economical output than china, mexico and canada COMBINED. yes. Combined. \n\nFurthermore, Canadian trade with america account for almost 80% of all trade in canada. A 25% increase would be absolutely devastating to canada. In america its about 13% so a 25% increase would cost more but it wont have any significant impact.\n\nNo doubt this tarrif war will cause far more problems for canada mexico and china than america. By a LOT. \n\nI dont think america is being selfish either. China does nothing to protect america from sending precursor chemicals to america to manufacture fentanyl. The trouble with political commentators is they try to think like a politician? Trump is not a politician! So think like a businessperson, its the deal and what is the best deal for the USA. Mexico and Canada imposing tariffs on the US is not going to hurt us like they think. We have more ships and planes and are able to move more goods faster to other countries who will buy. Not to mention the fact that Mexico and Canada were never fair to us in trading. In the end they will have hurt themselves way more then the US. Why do you think Trump has done this and most of us are not worried.

Both Mexico and Canada have fallen into Trumps trap, if you do not see it, let me explain. Trump has been pushing for more manufacturing at home, for more oil drilling and for more rare minerals mining. He can impose those tariffs and either Canada and Mexico agree, or the do exactly what they just did, think they can win a economic war with the United States. See, Trump gets what he wants either way, they don't cooperate, Trump gives huge tax incentives to companies to start producing here in the U.S. which will in turn reduce the price of everything for Americans, see, if you produce it here instead of overseas, Canada or Mexico, we can pish for a huge increase in overall production reducing the costs to consumers, since the products no longer have to be imported. Like i said, sometimes i don't think the left has any brains left.

how dead do your brain cells have to be to think that doing something like this will immediately solve the problem. If there wasn't a demand there wouldnt be anyone trying to fill the demand. Purdue Pharma also helped create the demand by pushing highly addictive opioid drugs and lying about it to people. Those people they hooked didn't suddenly disappear. They would rather put a bandage on the bleeding wound than cough up the money and the actual will to start solving the crisis that is driving people into drugs. Like lack of affordable housing, once people lose that safety and are on the street drugs end up providing a relief from their situation. Lack of any meaningful mental health care, or any health care at all. There are underlying things that aren't getting solved, people will always find new ways to find or make drugs whether those drugs come from other countries or just created inside the US.

Canadian here while I support what the PM is doing, I don’t think a tit for tat solution is enough. Canada needs to look for other trading partners like China. Let’s have a free trade agreement with them and rip up USMCA. That’ll fix the trade deficit overnight. Similar thing for military we can save the Pentagon billions by leaving NORAD and NATO and building a strategic joint defence agreement with China.

I am not smart enough but I think if America keeps pushing like this globally then US de-dollarization isn't far.

Honestly everyone is to blame. Canada and Mexico have both been riding the American gravy train for decades and never got slapped by any of the former presidents. Two Trump just has to pump up the pressure further and Canada will fold. It's that simple. As for Mexico they are squarely attached to America's teet. They need us WAY more than we need them. They will fold. And during negotiations we will make them ok US military operations on the Cartels. All people see is the word tariffs and don't think about the strategy behind them. Tariffs are a tool to apply pressure and gain leverage. Canada and Mexico would do the same if they could. So lets stop with the pearl clutching.

It's completely different than ours. We are given opportunities from birth. Basically to common deer, the life that we would like to have well, at least most of us are. Together let’s do something about it instead of leaving. Canada isn’t a country like China where no changes can be made by its citizens. I’m an immigrant, first arrived here in Canada in 2014. Once I heard the US wants to annex us I asked myself what can I do to help prevent this. I think the quickest way is we need a stronger military. I looked up the Canadian military website and found out me as a permanent resident can also be qualified to apply. Although the compensation isn’t that great, if the US really start being unwise I will definitely apply.
