It doesn’t help when Ford freezes tuition but allows more student visas. It’s a cash cow for these schools. These “students” end up working taking jobs from our own kids and keep wages suppressed. If universities have to close programs and administration take a big pay cut that could also offer some assistance and yeah put money back into education

I don't care if int'l students pay $250K/year. The housing situation is out of control; foreign ownership is out of control; anchor family visas are out of control and we're all paying too much for rent and mortgage. Give the universities and Canadian citizen students more money and stop accepting mass immigration students

NO ONE is talking about how It’s almost impossible for a Canadian student to get accepted into a university or college because they don’t pay the inflated international tuition fees.

Unfortunately, post-secondary education is no longer about producing quality graduates to build our nation, it’s just a foreign student money grab “puppy mill” education to issue worthless graduation certificates, all to the detriment of Canadian students who only end up with a poor education and a massive debt in a job environment where you work for little pay, part time, and contract, hoping that eventually you might get one of the few full time jobs out there.?

let me set the record straight here. International students pay four to fivefold as much tuition as locals do, and injects billiions of dollars into the Canadian economy. They have long become a cash cow in the eyes of canadian institutions and nobody ever voices support for 'em not even once. How sick and ungrateful was that? And now they're held accountable for, idk, housing crisis? For god's sake, why the heck nobody criticise the government's refugee-taking spree? Under Trudeau's ruling, Canada has imported way more refugees than any other nation from the middle of nowhere. At least international students has made siginificant economic contribution to the country. But what have those refugees done to the country except draining your resources? I mean c'mon fellas, do your fact checking and soul searching and don't lay blames on international students blindly, they deserves credits wherever credits are due.

Some of them come , right after grade 12 only one thing in their mind to get immigration! Most of them come to get same degree management or hospitality managing hotels ! These degrees don’t get them anywhere ! They all want live Vancouver Toronto no one wants to go to Manitoba Saskatchewan and up North ! People open up private colleges,have little room to teach them on line classes ! Money grab ! No one give them right information before they leave their country! We got not many skill student only business digress! Student from Indian love to get their PAR ! It cost them too much money to get here, but then they have to work hard to pay for their fees , or they have to buy work permit , it cost 35 to 50 thouesd to buy work permit as long as they work for same people for two year, not making that much money ! Life becomes hard !

People think its an easy thing as a full stop on students would do. Its not as easy because that inflow of cash should be replaced with somewhere in the economy, if not citizens will have to pay for it by increased taxes and goods of all products would still rise including housing. Then yes housing will be sufficient but even though demand reduces, prices wont be budging.

I work for the BC provincial government, and part of my job is to hunt for homes to house women who are escaping violence. After spending 3 months searching for homes in Surrey, I've seen anywhere between 10-22 individuals living in a modest sized home. These homes are often very well run-down, have poor plumbing, and many illegal suites, and I've literally seen people sleeping in closets. Landlords can get away with this because the students from India don't care, don't have a choice, or are used to this standard. What the federal government is doing is unbelievable, allowing many people into the country. Just because international students come from places where they can sleep on top of each other doesn't mean they should allow it to happen here, reducing the living standards for everyday tax-paying Canadians. Despicable.

[ Coming from a student ] - Nobody is to Blame beside THE GOVERNMENT! They mislead many international students to come here without even checking if the Colleges exist! They just kept giving visas to many students and when students reach here then they realize they made a big mistake especially after looking at the present bad economy and giving the tuition money to these money grabbers (GOVERNMENT AND COLLEGES). And to make it worse you have to pay 10k to the banks before coming which is now 20k and then the students pay 3 times the money compared to Canadian students, Which to pay-off, a lot of these students do all kind of jobs for so many hours a weeks just to pay the fees and their living bills. Hence, the reason for them not able to focus on their studies properly, less work for other folks and every other things which is effected. As a Student I was financially fine which was the main reason for my pretty much smooth journey here but not everyone has the same backups. I feel really bad for the students and hope this money grabbing madness stops and the immigration for at least 3- 4 years.....

One issue you did not talking about is the international students taking the Canadian universities space from the Canadian citizen students. Especially for doctorate degrees canada government allowed only 3% of Canadian student to enter to this program the same as for dentist, laws and other this is unjust, and discrimination against the canadine citizen students after all those international students are not Canadian citizen and their English languish is the second languish, why a Canadian citizen student have to go to USA or other countries and pay doubles fees in order to get in to those programs. \nI want the government canada in order to make it right approving 97% of Canadian student application for those programs in all universities in canada and only 3% application for international students. When you see movies set in the past at university's, students are always living in dorms 6 people to a room etc. Fastest way to build more beds is to build dorms, smash up hostels close to university's... big benefit in the international students paying more than local students, to make it cheaper for Canadians. Also the international students do all the jobs currently screaming for workers

I went to Conestoga college, and I wish your mon read my words. Canadians, should consider that international students are paying around 20k yearly to Canada Colleges institutions that are not offering better education than the one provided in their own countries for way less than 30k. Other developed countries, like Germany or Belgium offer the same programs to international students for around 8k yearly, but, the international students rather come to Canada which also offer an easier path to become PR. But then, they crash with the reality and they realize that even many Indians can't speak proper English to be competitive in a Canadian College or in a Canadian company. Unfortunately, Canadians educational institutions know that the English spoken by international students is not enough but, they send them an acceptance letter from the institution so they can come and study in Canada. So, the real problem are the Canadian public colleges and Universities accepting people with a poor English level from overseas. Canada is a great place to be but, this kind of actions make their productivity poor which is in reality the problem behind the bad economy development when compare with similar developed countries. So, your mon should first blame its own country policies and educational institutions rather than international students for that kind of behaviors when they are students. Also, you should put your self in their shoes, learn German and go to Germany and see how easy is to manage to get a waitress job only in German in a city like Cologne. And then remember that this international students are bringing 20k from their countries economy to Canada each one yearly. Know, think how many Canadians bring 20k yearly to India or Nepal... It's 100% true. International students are being exploited for tuition money and GIC money. Students have taken huge loans from their home country expecting that they will be able to get jobs and pay off their debt but since last 1 year students are jobless. We are failing to get menial labor jobs. Inflation and rent are sky high and our GIC money is not enough to survive here. I myself sleep hungry sometimes as I don't have enough money to buy food after paying rent. I think if they can't give us jobs and affordable housing, canada should stop calling itself a developed first world country. We should call out the whole system for keeping international students in inhumane conditions.

I teach in post secondary and the international students pay double the tuition. Add in living expenses and you have your answer as to why it is happening. We save a percentage of seats for domestic and indigenous students. Post secondary institutions would not be able to operate without the international students.

International students are not, many of them have parents who came to Canada first , then find volunteer work jobs like nonprofits call centres to qualify for working visa, then apply PR, here is the catch, many of those actually financially stronger than local Canadian, cash buying houses, paying high fees for their kids being international students, they compete local first time homebuyers, they don’t actually need a well paying job, they came here for Canadian IDs . These immigrants wave ? isn’t the same as decades ago who fresh off the boat had to go schools or job market to survive. Don’t blame international students, their parents came ….

Almost a million foreign students allowed in country of 34 M people ! Mind boggling to say the least. Why is this problem happening ? Obviously, the minister Trudeau installed to run this, is incompetent, of low ID, or doesn’t care. Don’t blame the schools. Getting $10K/yr. for a domestic student + subsidy fr. government of say another $10K, is about a third of a foreign student has to pay. Do the math ! Canadian collages did not had money 10 to 12 years ago to keep courses alive and pay professors without increasing tuition on Canadian born kids. so they charge international student double fee and makes millions of dollars. some of the courses had no value. still students are joining and coming here to get legal Permanent residence. Yes we are excepting to many international students. When the Canadian citizen cant even find a job in their home town, then thats a problem, and thats exactly whats happening. Companies see it as saving money when they hire these students, seeing the government pays half-wage subsidy for foreigners.

i have friends in their early 20s who cant get jobs and friends with well paying jobs who cant get a place of their own and have to house-share with roommates. it is disheartening seeing international students in this video complain that they cant get housing or jobs, but neither can canadians. the housing market needs to catch up to the population and demand but cant if it is outpaced unfortunately, which is the case for many other countries we are seeing making changes to immigration because of the population boom (such as the uk). some of these campuses should really consider taking those millions and investing them into campus housing if they want students so much

US family here. We were a big downhill skiing family, and often spent our winter vacations in the Laurentians. The exchange rate was great back in the 1990s and early 2000s. So when the time came to start looking at colleges, our daughter already associated Canada with fun, and fell in love with the University of Toronto. She was accepted. But before Canada would issue her a student visa, we had to provide evidence that we could pay full tuition, room, and board out of pocket. For all four years! They wanted an iron guarantee that she would never become a ‘ward of the state’ or consume public assistance services. We had to jump through soooo many logistical hoops for her to attend, it was exhausting to facilitate. But she graduated with honors in four years. All that time, the city was beautiful, clean, and vibrant, though not inexpensive. The St. George main campus, Queen’s Park, Bloor, Yongue Street, more. Everyone we met was friendly and respectful. We very rarely saw homeless and never tent communities. And crime seemed almost nonexistent except for bicycle thefts. Our daughter made many international friends and forged great relationships she carries to this day. So many wonderful memories. So it’s heartbreaking to hear how downhill the city has become. And the US is no different. It’s all in the politics, and neither Trudeau’s nor Biden’s policies are helping.

Most of these students just use the student visa in hopes of getting permanent residency that will eventually lead to citizenship. Anyone wants a G7 passport and Canada is the easiest to get in terms of time you need to spend. \n\nAs for Canada its all numbers. International students equals free money. Money to schools to subsidize local students (foreign students pay way more) and of course while they are staying in Canada they need to spend but they don't get government benefits unless they are already a PR or a citizen.

I arrived in Canada when I was 5 and been here for almost 50 years. I think people forget how much the original folks struggled. You hardly found an Indian store and were discriminated against. I think you made some valid points Canada is heading in the wrong direction and we need to blame the government. We don't even have affordable housing or Healthcare to support the increase in immigration. These no name colleges are making money at the expense of poor students. These students then have to work in low paying jobs. I really don't see any scope for some of these students. What is actually causing the problems in Canada is PRECISELY the expectations of a high standard of living absolutely everyone has, including brand new immigrants. To put simply, we have an incredibly spoiled population, a population that expects low prices for everything and has a terrible productivity overall and does not wish to work in the kinds of jobs that every economy needs in order to fuel everything else. The more food you produce, the more people can consume it, and this in turn flows through the economy to enable all the other kinds of economic activity. We have to bring in hundreds of thousands of temporary foreign workers from Mexico just to be able to harvest. In the past, Canada allowed immigration from all over the world of people who were mostly poor, refugees, and those desperate for a new life. They worked all the time doing every kind of imaginable job in every kind of condition. They built this country with their perseverance and hard work. The immigrants today, are selected on a points-based system, and the idea behind this is that someone with two university degrees, or trained in a profession, even if they don't work in their field in Canada because they're all sorts of barriers to transferring your education, are not very likely to be criminals or antisocial types. Since they have absolutely no training. In most parts of the world you finish high school and you have a trade, or you have some skill to begin working, the kids here know nothing. Nothing. Other than emotional safety, intersectional language, and wokeism. On top of that, the government has brought in every kind of environmental restriction and regulation on account of incredibly loud, but actually small minority of enviro lunatics, who most of the time use these environmentalism as a cover precisely for protecting their high property values in very luxurious and special places around the country, and they oppose logging and all sorts of resource extraction under the guise of environmentalism. Property and so they oppose everything on account of environmental reasons. But it's just to keep people out and preserve their own privileged place. Everything is a fine print. And we have gotten used to this as normal. We've gotten used to having credit cards, charges, 25% interest, we've gotten used to being ripped off constantly by all the corporations for everything, and nobody complains and they just borrow more and they just bottle it in and now it's finally coming out. The problem with the international students is the cost of tuition specially for student from poor countries, Canada is not design to support them in anyway ,the cost of living is so high that is almost impossible to give a proper education, and today cost of living is crazy to mortgaged your life for the Canadian diploma that not guaranteeing you success after paying all the money is a big gamble

Of course foreign students pay full tuition. Canadian citizen are subsidized. Most Canadians don't know how much our taxes go to off set costs.the major problem is in India selling a scam....

For higher studies of Kids in UofT, UBC or McGill University, Fees is $3,00,000 approx. for 4 years for International student plus $1,00,000 for stay, foods etc. in Graduation and start wonderful career in age of 21-22. That's the worth of PR. Don't loose it and keep doors open with 2 years compliance of Residency Obligation in 5 years. Vision and future of kids is more important than comfort of parents. as a PR your kids will pay only $75,000 for University fee and can do part time from day one to recover living expense, that's financial management!

100%. We live in Windsor, our university and college are all international students from India. Now, my wife and I have to pay a lot more money for our kids to go to college and university outside of our city. That is absolute bullshit, and needs to be fixed. Spread these international students across the whole province. Send them up to northern Ontario , Thunderbay post secondary schools are really short for students.

Canada should plan better. I graduated university in 2014 and despite applying aggressively, I could barely get a job interview. Jobs that could pay enough for me to afford housing, transportation, and food, as well as student loan payments, simply were not available to me. I moved to Beijing and stayed there for 9 years before moving to Malaysia earlier this year. I teach ESL so I talk with a lot of newcomers and immigrants as part of my job. The case of one of my students sticks out in my mind. She originally came here from Ukraine because of the war. She wants to get PR status because she wants to settle here and make a life for herself and her family. She was explaining the process to me and she seemed really caught in a Catch 22. She held advanced degrees in mathematics and economics already, but in order to qualify here she would need to go back to school, which would require a different visa than the one she was here on. She was working, but at a low paying job where she was just making ends meet. So she has to decide whether to go back or stay, basically because of bureaucracy and no other reason. She was strongly considering going back home because of how expensive the cost of living is here. And I can't say I blame her. I was born here and if I had the resources, I would move. I would love to move abroad because the standard of living in most European countries is so much better.

They came for citizenship thats it, when they get their citizenship then bye bye. Labourers shortage is just a scam, many companies use this loopholes to make tons of money. When the temporary workers come, most of them don’t even work at the company that sponsors them. Did any authority checking on this, I don’t think so. I met many that came and work for someone else for cash, the company sponsored them laid them off so they can get a job elsewhere. They have to pay those companies and the middleman lots of money for them to do the paperwork. Some say they paid from $30k up $70k USD, exchange students are just the same.
