All your points are valid. I would add that, sadly, many come to Canada to get a citizenship of convenience. Once they have a dual citizenship as Canadian, they go back to the home country and only remember that they are Canadian when they want or need something. Making dual citizenship illegal would resolve this. You are in or you are out. He who serves two masters, serves neither.

As a Canadian, I looked into becoming an auto mechanic. Its going to take a year of school, tuition and then, in your first year, you'll make entry level wage and have to pay $3000 in tools. You might even need a truck to haul your tools around. They keep saying how they need tradespeople in Ontario, but the licensing/ apprentice process takes so long for people to transition into. Every trade is so complicated to get involved in. There is a situation where there are willing and capable people, but the admin process is too expensive and bars people who are in need of paying groceries, rent and bills. They can't find enough millrights either. Its the same problem.\n\nYou've got a surplus of willing and capable workers and employers seeking talent, but the admin process inhibits the entire process. \n\nIf I could start apprenticing on-the-job today as a mechanic or millright I would. But, I need to support family, so instead I am working readily available joe-jobs. \n\nAll trade positions will continue to be unfilled on job posting boards, while potential candidates will be busy working low pay jobs in warehouses etc. just trying to survive. Ontario is idiotic! Back in 2014 they introduced the Ontario College of Trades which only sought to take admin fees from every conceivable profession. The old bureaucratic established people in Ontario have a way of keeping everyone as peasants and minions. This is also why people are leaving for Alberta (a wise decision).

The problem too, is a lot of these professionals only get accepted to come because they have certain qualifications, but once they arrive they find out their qualifications are useless, and have to go back to school at their own expense. It's like a cycle to add profit to the Canadian post secondary system. Why not be straightforward with them before they come? I understand there needs to standards maintained in each profession, but why not allow them to be completely assessed beforehand and upgrade to Canada's standard before coming so they can join the work force. We desperately need doctors, they are here, but working outside their field because they need to provide for their families.

It is the stupidity of the Liberal party and its leader the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that is being manifested. Anyone with sound education and some common sense would have thought that having the needed infrastructure for the immigrants in place before unilaterally sending them invitation on the social media. This is the consequence of his tweeting on social media that we are experiencing. He found it more benevolent to extend benevolence and grace to wannabe Canadian immigrants than look after the welfare of Canadians who are suffering and needed help. Born in South Vietnam and raised in Toronto for almost 44 years now I'm still here and Toronto sucks!!! It has become a ghetto! City Toronto leftists' politicians have made it into a shithole! Bike lanes are everywhere and there are not much bikers during the Winter months (something like 8 to 9 months) and summer months I saw few here and there. Rents are totally beyond many peoples affordability. Foods prices are freaking crazy. Reason why this is happening? You have to thank the current idiotic-leftard government under Trutard leadership in Canada. This is thanks to his carbon taxes BS initiative causing high cost in fuel and resulting in major inflations in high food prices, rentals, etc. How can you help refugees and immigrants while Canadians can't even afford to live in Toronto, etc. You need to take care of Canadian first and foremost. Taking in 500 thousands new immigrants and refugees each year isn't going to be help Canada to get this mess we are in. Lower number like 150-200 thousands of new immigrants | refugees is feasible but NOT 500 thousands new immigrants and refugees.

Trudeau and his carbon tax need to go. Average Canadians cannot afford either of them.

1) Toronto is poor value. Getting housing of any kind (buying or renting) is stupidly expensive. And the quality you get for the price is lousy. Especially the newer builds, which are just thrown up as quickly as possible and sold to investors. Policy measures generally all seem to serve to just inflate the price of housing further. The occasional lip service given to affordability is amusing, but ultimately sad. There are lots of people who really do not want the housing bubble to pop. They will fight against it with all they have.\n\n2) It has become kind of boring. There is lots to do if you have money, but it’s harder to find entertainment on a budget. Even the free stuff like parks are filling up. Stuff like sporting events, eating out, going out is very costly across the board. Even the “cheaper” stuff is expensive. It seems like a lot of local culture is disappearing. Even the cool neighbourhoods are filling up with the same chains. I think the high commercial rent and bureaucracy is deflating a lot of would-be entrepreneurs. Most landowners seem to just be banking on cashing out their land for condos.\n\n3) Canada overall has a high cost of living compared to salaries. In the US you can find lower cost of living areas that still give you a real city experience. And in Europe you can be poor but still live a decent, if no frills, life. In Canada the basic necessities are all expensive. Phone bills, grocery bills, rent, insurance are through the roof. Domestic travel is expensive. And the dollar sucks if you want to travel abroad. Health care is free but good luck finding a family doctor or waiting 8 hours in the ER these days. It’s expensive to be poor, or even middle class.\n\n4) Most of the Greater Toronto Area, outside the core, is soulless suburbs with awful transit - very “American” except with worse traffic congestion. You will need a car, which is another huge cost. Row upon row of old cookie cutter suburbs with the same crappy houses. Good luck walking anywhere, and if you do you will need to walk down boring, treeless arterial roads with cars zooming past right beside you, and cross giant eight lane intersections that were never built for humans on foot. In a rainstorm or on a fall evening you have to be really careful not to be run over by aggressive drivers.\n\n5) It is hard to raise a family in an apartment here. You can do it but it’s not very easy, and also you are still kind of judged for it. Lots of young people are feeling stuck and are deferring or avoiding starting a family. Buying any type of house, even a basic townhouse, requires pledging your soul to a bank by taking a massive mortgage with eye watering debt in a volatile market. But few apartment buildings have the kind of sensible gentle density, the family unit sizes and the common amenities, like little courtyards with jungle gyms, that you might find in Europe. No one ever contemplated that anyone would ever desire to raise kids in an apartment. It’s just a cultural thing that has worked its way into how things are planned and designed.\n\n6) The transit system is ok by North American standards but awful by international standards. There are only two real subway lines, one stub line, one line that is permanently out of service after a derailment, and another line that was supposed to open a couple years ago but still has no date for opening. The subways go out of service frequently, sometimes for the dumbest reasons, and then it is a zoo of shuttle buses. The streetcars are nice but so slow. The buses are fine if you find yourself dreaming about riding a daily herky jerky rolling tin of sardines. They are building a lot of transit but it will take decades to get done.\n\n7) There is still a lot of cool multiculturalism and opportunities to experience different foods and cultures - one of the best things about Toronto. Increasingly though it seems to be losing the fun vibe of the 90s, when everyone celebrated each other’s backgrounds and was chill. It seems the immigration is not as broad based anymore and also people are importing a lot of their “old country” grievances here. The immigration system also kind of preys on people abroad by selling them a false fairy tale, so they end up dejected when they arrive and see how things really are.\n\n8) This one might be controversial but it’s kind of an ugly city. There’s nothing particularly of historical meaning or value. Some of the older neighbourhoods are kind of nice, but the last 25 years they have only built giant glass skyboxes, one after another. There aren’t the cool “missing middle” walkups like in NY, Chicago or Montreal (or even LA). There are very few buildings with much architectural character. Some of the buildings they deem “heritage” here are an embarrassment.\n\n9) For safety, honestly on this score I think Toronto is not bad. There are not too many real “ghettos” and it’s night and day compared to much of the US. With that said, there is more vagrancy and social issues these days, with tents and such. It’s very sad but the shelters are full, lots of homeless go into the libraries, parks and transit system. It does make it harder to enjoy these public amenities safely. It is nowhere close to Europe where you might let your kids run free around town. Canadian parents still helicopter their kids and the place again is not designed to really be safe for kids, in the same way as Europe.\n\n10) Finally, a bit of a double edged sword. Toronto had a lot of youthful energy - people coming here from all over. It is definitely not as sleepy as many parts of the world. With that said, it is becoming a bit of a transient place (minus the world class experiences like London or NY). If you are from elsewhere you might find it hard making and keeping friends. I’ve seen lots of people struggle because it’s is hard to build a strong social network. We have a very “shallow” culture here - people are extremely polite but not overly warm and hospitable. We treat one another kind of like neighbours - meaning we’d like to have a cordial, drama-free coexistence and otherwise kind of stick to ourselves.

If it is at all true that foreign students are going to the food banks to get food then what the heck are they doing coming here. The food bank shouldn't be abused like this . And then they say that they should not come to Canada to get education. If they can't afford to come here then get an education else where . The food banks are for Canadians first and it is getting harder to feed the rising need for those Canadians. Using a system that was not set up for foreign students is not right. What next. Tuition free housing free. Do it on line and stay away.

It’s been 5 years for me here and I honestly can say I have achieved nothing in my life yet. It scares me when I think I can’t return whatever my parents had invested in me. The fact is you’ll never have a good paying job in Canada being an immigrant. When I say this trust me I mean it. Most you’ll get is a minimum wage job which can make you survive the life here. Taxes are high definitely and what I feel is you’re working to make someone else’s life easier. \n(P.S: people who’ve stayed in Canada will understand who I’m implying to)\nNo one wants to be your freind, scope of socializing is zero coz mostly it’s cold round the year so everyone hardly come out, especially in Northern provinces like Yukon, Saskatchewan, Manitoba.\nHealthcare is a joke. If you feel sick and not well and you wanna see a doctor be prepared to wait for hours and hours. I once had stomach infection and I had to wait 5 hours till someone could see me. I asked for painkiller at-least so I could bear the pain but they refused that as well. You might well see someone you love dearly and with whole heart die in-front of you and you could do nothing. (I’ve experienced it myself hence saying)\nYou’re a lone survivor who’ll always keep fighting. \nThe only person who can make money here is businesses and high paid jobs which are reserved to Canadians. That’s how Canada’s job market is. Canadians’ first and if there’s something left they’ll look at you. By the amount of money people invest here they can establish a nice business back in their country itself and earn accordingly on own terms. \nMost importantly you’ll cut yourself from all emotional supports like family, freinds etc.\nI was social person back in India who liked making new freinds and memories but it’s nothing like that here. \nAnd it’s the same life, no different.\nYou wake up, dress, eat, go to work, come back, eat, sleep. No different.\nNo fun and nothing. You actually don’t live in present, you live in an expectation of a better tommorow.\nYou’ll always have a smile when you greet someone but I guarantee you no one’s gonna check on you to if you don’t start a conversation even with a simple “Hi”. Mostly Canadians are nice but again some will systematically judge you and say nothing but you’ll see in their actions, the way they’ll talk in a twisted way etc.\nYes I’m not saying that Canada’s bad or it’s no good but trust me it will take forever to build a life here especially with the number of people moving here from round the world. \nIf you’re well off financially from back home Canada’s a paradise for you. Indeed it’s a beautiful country with lots of beauty and lots to explore but remember everything comes with a cost here. Everything comes with a cost. People need to stop believing in this fake illusion and come only if they got a purpose here. The only reason why they’ll let you in the country is for money and once you’re in you’ll have to keep spending, doesn’t matter if you’re broke or whatever you have to.\nOnce I earn I’ll happily give up my PR status and go back to India as i very well know what the situation is how it’s gonna be in future.\nSo just one piece of advise to every middle class person like me, guys please invest and spend your money wisely coz we know how hard it is to earn and it’s high time Canadians start appreciating what immigrants like us do for them by burning ourselves day and night and start realizing that their past generation once came from some other part of the world as well and settled here. The problem is very serious, on the one hand they let in people who are not contributing and giving added value to the country, quite the opposite, and on the other hand Canada has fallen far behind countries like Germany, France, Spain or the US , When bringing qualified people for specific fields, what is the difference, two things first, the ridiculous Canadian experience, is nonsense, the other even more ridiculous, the paths for recognition of all types of credentials do not even match the needs of the country and less than when those laws were created, they are completely out of reality, the paths were created by a person without the slightest vision, the aforementioned countries never ask for experience and the path to recognize credentials is easy, above all fast and practical, that is delaying Canada!! and it is leaving it very far from what it was, with so many good professionals who do not work in their area thanks to the terrible policies. \nThe result, true professionals go where it suits them best.

My immigration process took 14 years in total until I could get here, it was a blessing and I had a lot of gratitude to be here after living in a warzone. Ive lived in Winnipeg for 10 years, a part of me was always happy and okay to deal with the cold because at least nobody would be killing you or attempting to on a daily basis, with rockets and bombs. 10 years later, I was wondering that the only reason we came here was to escape war, and not find a better quality of life. You can tell me “you don’t like it then leave” but i find it disturbing that many Canadians here don’t recognize how bad the situation gets, when governments don’t do anything to enhance quality of life and corporates take control everywhere and raise the costs to unbelievable numbers. Housing crisis, most can’t afford houses or even rent a nice apartment. Healthcare system is a complete dogshit mess, people here don’t recognize the importance of how much this industry needs to be supported by governments and citizens because EVERYONE benefits from it and stay alive longer. I don’t know man, I only see it collapsing going forward, especially when everyone is divided and the aboriginal issues are a constant trend.

The come, they start collecting their free money and healthcare, then they go back to where they came from. The free cash keeps going into their Canadian bank account, and then they simply come back when they need medical attention.

Canada is quickly turning into a 3rd world country because that’s where the majority of them came from, as refugees NOT IMMIGRANTS. Canada is no longer screening for EDUCATED, PROFESSIONAL people who can contribute to Canadian society. Canada has made it so difficult for those who are educated and are professionals to receive accreditation to contribute to Canadian society. Canada no longer ensures there is a Canadian sponsor who pays for the immigrant, to ensure that the immigrant is not a burden on society. When teachers can not make change while volunteering at a food stand for a local craft show, this explains that our education system is junk. Our health care system is run like a well oiled corporation where money stops at the top/administration and never finds it’s way to those who need health care. I was the first generation of latch key kids to go to school with Italian, Croatians, Serbians, Armenians, Jews, Palestinians, Asians and we never saw our classrooms full of sanctioned hate. We never saw the neighbourhoods of any of these ethnicities look like open toilets. There was no gang violence amongst these ethnicities. They had their own community centres, churches, synagogues and anyone was welcome. They were active in the community, they were fantastic neighbours. Decades later we have “no go zones” in our cities and rural communities because of the danger of some ethnicities. Churches and synagogues are locked. Their community centres are locked and monitored for entry. We have lost our way. We have allowed chaos agents into our country and we are paying the price and will continue to do so.

I’m first generation Canadian and went to live abroad in 2015, met my spouse, brought him back to Canada with me once I found a job in 2019but it took me a while and I had to go on welfare. It was tough going for 2 years and my partner only found a decent job that paid him fairly and has benefits after 4 years of working crappy jobs. We bought a house away from the city for cheap in 2020 before things got crazy and we’re very fortunate and happy with the services we have access to in the small towns around us. My only regret is starting our family a bit late but better late than never. Canada is a tough place to live but it was even tougher when I was abroad and I learned to appreciate Canada more. But Trudeau has got to go. We need conservatives in power again.

The biggest problem is that you can have dual citizenship. And there is absolutely no loyalty to Canada besides the ‘free healthcare’ and cheep education. You have people living in other countries for the vast majority of their lives and then touch base at home to suit their medical need, then take off and not contribute ANYTHING to the county. Then, they whip out their Canadian passport to be repatriated when things go bad in their Middle East country….

No wonder everything is getting so expensive and housing and rent is going through the roof. almost 1/2 million new residents a year? Where is all the infrastructure and housing for that coming from? The gov needs to put the brakes on immigration and lets things stabilize for a while jesus. Almost every Liberal policy is like a perfect storm for making this country unaffordable for the average Canadian. \nIf you're going to let people in let it be only in job markets we need like high skilled workers, and especially doctors and nurses. And dear god help those doctors and nurses get appropriately accredited before giving them citizenship. Our system needs people who can work in the system not people who got their degree or diploma in some flyby night school. I see way to many people at my workplace trying to get jobs with fake diplomas or degrees. Those people need to be deported ASAP! They lied to get here and they are lying to employers. Sorry no sympathy there.

Become a canadians citizen...then go back and live on your homeland...when you get pregnant you come here...its FREEEEEEEE......need surgery.....come back to canada....

Because of Trudeau’s socialist liberal policies and the national media support of such policies,we as Canadians don’t have anyplace to go. But as an “irregular traveller” you can become a citizen of our land and go back to where you came from. As long as the Canadian taxpayer will look after you wherever you are and whatever you need. My husband is from China, Im from Hong Kong. We both came around 2000, at the time houses were cheap and affordable. We met and married after we became Canadian in 2004 and the same year we bought our first house 4 bedrooms 3000sqft near Fairview Mall. Our first daughter has now just graduated and we plan to fund her on her down payment because we know it's not affordable on her own. The price has gone up not double, not triple or quadruple, but 5 times what it used too and not even near centre of the city. Canada housing is now so bad my husband regrets giving up his Chinese citizenship at one point luckily Hong Kong allows multiple citizenship and we can still go back and settle when things get worse. Sucks for my kids who have never had much experience outside of Canada so they will need to learn and cope for better or for worse.

As the child of immigrants, i think this is a perspective a lot of Canadians are facing. I could never bring myself to leave, most people my age are the same. All your friends are here, the neighbourhood you grew up in is here and you're simply not cut out to go to where your parents originally came from (half of us come from parents/grand parents who immigrated) because the climate is probably 1000x different lol (I just know I couldnt survive South Asian/Middle eastern weather).\n\nI just turned 18 though so I haven't experienced the insane rent and stuff (as it's literally impossible for me to move out). Things will be better I know it, but the question is how long will that take? Id personally give it 5 or 6 years. We need to put a cap on immigration and just completely cut off the GTA from receiving any for a set amount of time (think 2 or 3 years?). We also need to amplify our construction industry (incentives/rezone some areas for development) and the government should start subsidizing urban development projects with an agreement that prices will be lowered, or offer money to people who are purchasing condos/houses (think iZev but for urban housing and not electric vehicles). \n\nAlso stop taxing us and simply start slowing down/cutting non-essential social services; a specific government program should be created that closes all of these at once for a set amount of time (think 2 or 3 years as well) and they'll be able to redirect the money to more important causes.

It's hard if you move through the legal paths work or as a student. It's going to alot harder trying to immigrate as a tourist and trying to claim refugee status or converting to a work permit. I don't think people should blame Canada or the Canadian govt. if they are already breaking immigration laws. People need to do their due diligence. At the end of the day an agent is only interested in what's they are earning from you

There is the Entertainment District only as Hollywood North. New York Rental Rates were through the roof and Racketeering By Russians was driving the prices up so everybody moved into the Waldorf Astoria. Toronto is going through the same thing as Hong Kong Chinese Racketeers drove the prices up with condo rates in Toronto in the 1990s and they never were under Rent Control. Everybody was moving in the 1990s into the Royal York back then as Hollywood Actors could not afford the condo fees as all Movies are for Free and nobody made any money acting. There were no real Rent Subsidies in Toronto like in New York though as the City was not meant for Foreign Nationals to Scam Rent Subsidies out of the Government. Bloomberg as Mayor of New York knew who was from New York and who was not. Toronto is getting to be that way as Hollywood Royalty is all Canadians who grew up in Richmond Hill and were working as Government Staff. There was a need to keep the Racketeering in check so Homeless Shelters were offered instead in Toronto by the City. I am born and rasied in Toronto and I would have to say what is happening now in this city is do to the covid fallout. Toronto has always had higher rent then most Canadian cities but I think with the loss of jobs and and the rise in cost of living all over Canada due to covid I would say that Toronto is going through some hard times like everywhere eles in Canda. Unfortunately because it is the bigest city alot of people have moved here in the hope of a better life. I have noticed a rise in drug use but have not noticed a rise in violent crime. They do say that the TTC is got worse...Hard to say as I take the TTC every day across the city and have not noticed any diferance other then more and more people are useing it again. During covid the subway was empty and now all these people that have never used it before are having to learn how it all works and subway edict. I think media is making the subway seem worse then it is. To me it has not changed. I do agree the real problem is dealing with homeless that was more hiden but now is out in the open. Funding from all levels of goverment needs to help all big canadain cites more. I think Toronto will come back again to what it was pre-covid. Hopfully soon!!

Actually throughout the 1960s - present day, Many immigrants from Europe migrated over to Canada to migrate through to United States. thats also including Canadians. Plus natives to tronoto, Montreal, who are going professional in hockey come over to teams of America. Plus normal people needing jobs will come to America. Plus Canada does not have enough area to hold more people that they already have. Thats why people move. and you put down America like were melting, America is rising, and has already beaten all other countries. And we have millions of immigrants coming South America, Europe, Asia, etc.

You never mentioned the real reason for Canada's immigration policies. The stated goal of 100 million by the turn of the century. 50 million by 2050. We don't need computer specialists or foreign doctors, we need iron workers, framers, plumbers, electricians, carpenters and especially bricklayers. \nFor example in the case of Doctors: We just need to approve foreign university trained degrees of Canadians who can't get into Canadian Medical Schools and instead go offshore. \nOur Canadian Universities need to ween themselves off the quick cash Liberal Arts teets and focus more on STEM and Small Business occupational training

Our son (22 yo) was in a traffic accident 3 years ago. Heavy multi-trauma that necessitated 18 surgeries, the latest was 2 months ago. He still has complications that forces him into long hospital stays. If we were living in the US, not only the whole family would have been bankrupt, but he most certainly would have died from lack of fund to pay for his care. Being Canadians living in Quebec, we didn't pay a dime, and his medical care wasn't even entirely paid for by the universal national healthcare. Most of it was paid by the Société d'Assurance Automobile du Québec (provincially funded, single payer automotive insurance).\n\nEverything, including renovations to the house to make it suitable for a wheelchair user and so much other things he now needs has been paid for. All in all the cost of all the medical care, prothesis, equipments, surgeons (6 of them, diffrent specialies), multiple MRIs, scans, stress-tests, ect. is most certainly in the 7-figure by now. The single payer automotive insurance granted him a pension for life, calculated on the base of the salary he would have made in his future job, had the accident not cut short his university education.\n\nJust typing this to show a very valid reason why it makes absolutely no sense for a Canadian to move to the US, makes me tear up for families down south going through a similar situation, knowing that unless they are millionaires, they're probably going through hell. Not entirely accurate. It's pro-wealthy immigration here in Canada absolutely. It's citizenship for sale. Not necessarily wealthy in terms of really wealthy (like Switzerland) but it's definitely citizenship for sale, so if you don't have money, don't bother. Newcomers with medical and engineering expertise can't get jobs here in Canada, in spite of our healthcare system being on the point of collapse and our supposed hi-tech push. Regulatory boards here have made it impossible. Estimates are around 175000 qualified, internationally trained doctors and nurses who gave up trying to practice here and moved into other careers. Ukrainian doctors, for eg, with extensive trauma experience and willing to staff our emergency departments have been told they have to requalify by going to Canadian medical school to retrain for at least 4 years. Same story in engineering. By IT, our government seems to mean low-paid call center IT work, moving the IT sweatshop racket from India onto Canadian soil. If you can afford to buy a business - I believe the total business investment was 500 000 pre-pandemic - that's another way in. Not sure if thats gone up now. So many of our franchise businesses are essentially being used as citizenship tickets. The big ticket item: If you can afford 4 years of postgraduate or undergrad university program, or 3 to 4 year college program - and if you don't have the cash, loan sharks in India will distribute debt across the whole family for decades so one student can go . There us a very good documentary by an Indian filmmaker on the Canadian college/University recruitment drive in India and its consequences. Several of our colleges have student enrollments at over 70% of the entire student body, direct entry from India. Additional problems like grade inflation, different education standards, and outright fraud on ESL testing also mean that Indian students are not well prepared for school here. Many do not have enough English to succeed in their studies. They either need to spend for additional tutoring, take a qualifying year or two ESL (on top of the 3 or 4 program), or fail courses. Universities and colleges keep the tuition though. Honestly our colleges and universities are staying afloat because of Indian students. They're being treated like cash cows - and Indian recruiters are scamming the system, taking fees on their end with unsuspecting students getting falsified documents, or being told they passed their ESL when they didn't. It's a national disgrace. I'm a prof here, I've seen all of this firsthand. Your data may be correct, but the narrative you've constructed for it is not the real picture.

I think you need to do some reading up on gun violence in the US vs Canada if you are so shocked. The numbers are very high for the US. Canadians spend a lot of time watching american news sources to see what fresh hell our neighbours are participating in. \n\nI have a hard time finding the motivation to even travel to the US and I want to do so only to visit family history locations. And some beaches. But I have decided not to go cross borders.

I am a Canadian citizen who worked in the US. Please stop blindly extolling Canada for accepting more immigrants. There is nothing inherently good or bad about immigration. It is a simply a socioeconomic policy decision that every country needs to make for itself, for the benefit of its EXISTING citizens. I’m not going to blindly applaud any country, including my own, just because it welcomed xyz immigrants.

This Canadian lived in Orange County CA for 10 years. I took my the 12 year old with me. I had been offered my dream job and was paid enough to have a good standard of living. However, I lived in an immigrant community to save money as I found many of the high schools were horrid compared to Canada. I had not realized the school to school inequality to be so extreme and my kid changed to independent study at home. So with a Canadian elememtary education, they graduated high school a year only while skipping no courses..\n\nMy kid had medical issues and even with good HMO insurance, we could never get a decent diagnosis until it had gotten so bad that their digestive system was so wrecked. I finally sent them back to Canada for the surgery that we could not get in the USA. It seemed the insurance companies kept getting in the way. And in one case a doctor went all religious on us. After 6 years of almost continuous pain they finally got relief for a decade until the prior damage came back to haunt them However, after a year of university ib Canada my kid went to a private university in the eastern USA. They have decided to remain in the USA and now in their mid 30s, they make really good money anf have top line medical insurance which pays for the ongoing care they need because of the damage caused by delays when a teenager. \n\nI found life in the suburbs of Orange County nice but the OC is not a good place to meet people. When after 10 years there, in 2010 I returned to Vancouver to care for my elderly mother. I had been living alone for 6 years by then and was offered the first job in Vancouver anything close to me dream job there. and I returned to Canada at age 59. I had been approved for a green card in 2008 but there was a 6 year wait for it to come through. But I noticed the racism in the USA start breaking out all over the place when Obama got elected. And it has gotten worse and worse every year. Especially with 45 enabling it so much. \n\nMy circle of friends in Southern California are mainly good people and not at all like what we call MAGA-hats now. Except one who thinks 45 was the greatest. Politically, the USA is on the path that Germany was on in 1933 and I fear for the US Democracy if the Orange One gets in again. Even my kid and their spouse have bug out plans to head to Canada just in case. This is why my kid, while having a green card has never taken US citizenship. Besides, being a Canadian has not affected things the two times they got security clearances \n\nWhile most Americans are good people, it seems that about 25% have gone just plain loco and care nothing about democracy. And appear to prefer the USA to be a totalitarian theocracy \n\nI was there long enough, paying the maximum FICA taxes for 10 years to get a small pension from Social Security and I have Medicare Part A. I can afford to buy parts B and D but I see no reason. I have even better coverage in Canada for way less cost. The USA has a nice warm climate in many places and I just loved that. But otherwise y'all have too many people who want to turn the place into an intolerant police state and to return the country to 1950s levels of intolerance, So in my retirement, I will stay here in Canada. Even though I could go and move in with my kid in the USA and get onto US Medicare.

Health care from your job? How did that work out for everyone during the pandemic? Ppl who lost their jobs in the states? All Canadians, even if they lost their jobs kept all their healthcare for free. Having a baby? Just pay the cost to park at the hospital, have cancer/heart attack - same, just what it cost you at the lot, $3.50. Health care is huge. Need to go to your doctor, no second thoughts bc u don’t have money. We do have a little longer waits for non serious surgeries, but all serious and emergency stuff is done asap. We all appreciate our health care so much when compared to the US.
