Do not forget that you are able to do that largely due to the fact that you are a Canadian citizen, holding a Canadian passport. How many people are willing to give up their passports to live in some Asian country for example, in the Middle East for example. Not many people for sure. Having your cake and eating it too, doesn't always work out the way one images it to be.

When I a Canadian went to live in another country we had to pay private healthcare insurance, also were responsible for the cost of of education for our children at private institutions ?? We had no expectations of a foreign country helping us, we were charged double the $$ as an expat for housing etc the government and peoples of those found these actions acceptable??

A key component is being overlooked. The reason North Americans and Western Europeans can travel the world freely is because after our studies, temporary work or vacation, we go back to our home country. If your home country has a high likelihood of someone using a temporary visa to permanently stay in another country, then of course the Visa rejection rate will be high. No matter if it's India, Vietnam, Nigeria, etc. If the likelihood of you going back home is low then your visa rejection rate will be high.

It’s off to me that when things get bad in a country there is always a certain percentage of people that are just ready to give up and leave. Why would you not stay and fight for what you call your home? I'm all for legal immigration but I don't think the US can handle any more people at the moment. I don't know about anyone else, but it's been brutal for me personally to find a job for a couple of months just to get by until my other job is good to go for the season. I've never had to claim unemployment (I always found another job within a week or two), and I've been suffering for the past 6 months. I'm more than qualified for some of the applications I have filled out, but yet I feel like just because I'm a white woman, I get skipped over. I've applied to around 50-70 jobs and only had 2 interviews. Thankfully, I still live at home, but if i didn't, I'd be wayyy more screwed. I believe America needs to take care of it's legal citizens first, then we can worry about others.

Reading all the comments and thinking if the effort of staying permanently is worth it! I am from Iran, have been studying here for 2 years, and reading all these disappointed comments makes me think deeply! I think it would be wiser to compare the Canada to other countries “now”. Comparing Canada to its own past and thinking of moving to another country because it’s better, doesn’t make sense. I am sure many countries are going through the same situation !

For those here on the Chat that don’t own rental property I’m here to tell you that this is 150% REAL. I know I know I know I know I know I know everyone is saying if she owes how could she possibly still be living in the unit???? New laws, slow courts, uninterested judges, unfair policies have caused landlords to suffer at the will of deadbeat TENANT. 1year Before Covid hit, I had one tenant starting to slow pay, during Covid not one cent after Covid not one cent! TENANT works a job, but still doesn’t pay the rent back-and-forth to court, continuous legal fees on my end. We just got her out the beginning of 2025!!!! ? trust we were ready to set the building on fire if we didn’t get that eviction letter this year!! Rather lose the entire property than to allow a person living inside it to live freely, and here’s the kicker she totally destroyed everything \nhoarding and intentionally damaging the floors and walls. Now we have to gut the entire unit to make it presentable for another tenant however, just not excited about renting to anyone else anymore. This experience has completely taken the wind out of being a landlord. And yes, this person was properly vetted, credit check and everything.
