Its really funny how they watch you and consistently ask do you need help. But when you seek their help they disappear.?

Or maybe they are just asking if you need help because your just standing there. I mean why do you have to assume there is a alt motive. That’s ridiculous. When I get asked if I need help usually it’s because I freaking do. And they help. This is crazy. It was sad though I felt bad for Leland .

Everything i go into a best buy, I am asked at least 7 or 8 times if I need help with anything. Its very annoying.

They train you in retail to ask if someone needs help as a way to discourage shoplifting and signal that you're aware of them without overtly saying so. So if you're constantly being offered help, it's because they think you're a risk.

Just curious, aren't people too sensitive? Why can't the staff walk around you, as long as they don't disturb why pay attention to them? \nI am an Asian in Canada, I was asked do I need help for countless time in the past two years, I never felt being offended until I saw this film?

I would ask public schools add a course on conflict resolution to deflect problems that arise when ignorance is able to flourish. Anyone who got away with watching someone subjugated or else ran off when help was needed should be reduced in stature until they learn the error of their ways. Too long innocence was stepped on and corrupted in the name of a non-existent example of superiority.

Am I the only retail worker who actually asks people if they need help because it looks like the can't find something ?? I've never followed someone I thought was stealing not my problem lmao

First of all, you have an open Best Buy, that’s scary in itself. \nSecond, every Best Buy that I’ve been to that sales people are so bored that it’s like when they see an actual customer they all get excited. I’ve been asked multiple times of i needed help, then they tried selling me stuff i didn’t want.\nBest Buy isn’t a good example, sorry.\nBut i get the trail of the story. It happens and continues because of stereotypes and people not willing let be people be people.

I have already said when they ask you do you need help they are making sure they will recognize you IF you steal something.

Lawyers know if u ganna gt ur papers but still they will ask for money saying they need more or else it case is dropped knowing is dropped already.. they do this without remorse..

When they ask you if you need help be like yeah you can help me but by not obessesively following me and lurking.

From overwhelming amounts of bad experience: Generational abuse, damages, corruption, delusion, speaking and acting with certainty, even indisputable while other possibilities exist - creating more and more conflict and damages and time being wasted, is life in Canada. The Canadians who have taken power and control over and upon others and childrens lives, have sabotaged so many lives, have corrupted reasonableness, logic, and needed care. Many Canadian children have been and are still being tortured, trafficked, profited on, and poisoned. Victims are now disabled, expected to heal themselves often while still feeling tortured, and are largely left to continue to suffer while the majority basically looks the other way, works to party, play, go on vacations and such, and basically refuses to understand what went wrong, where it went wrong, and where it's going wrong, in childhood. This's why I think most don't get it and why Canada doesn't have smart people, and why people ask why from others instead of figuring it out or should already know the answer if so-called adults were competent and actually helpful. The ugly truth is that Canadians don't know how to raise children all that well - day after day, year after year, generation after generation. Emotional and physical damages are often permanent; one a child or a person is poison and traumatise, there's no coming back. Canada at large is still one of the worst human violators on this planet and there is really no end in sight for child abuse because it's not Canada's top priority.

I've watched a lot of videos regarding the EE step by step process and I have to admit that this one is the best! It was a really detailed video which helped me a lot in understanding the whole process. Thank you so much! I need to ask something. If we do not recieve an ITA what is then done? Do I wait for another ITA in the next draw or will I have to submit a new profile? How many times can I participate in the process? Thank you in advance

To Muslims: Believe in what you want , pray, fast, wear what you want, however: in peace, quiet. Nobody needs to hear you praying, pray in your homes or mosques, do not ask for rights more then any other group of people , respect as you are respected, obey the Canadian laws, Respect peoples feeling & civil rights, as the rest of us do. No special treatment to you based on your religion. You do that , we will all be happy.

There's cases in this episode where they assumed racism without proof like the Best Buy for example. I used to work at Best Buy for a Co-Op placement in highschool and shoplifting was a big issue for them, it became best practice at one point to just approach customers of any race and ask them what they need. You also have to realize that it's an electronics store, you're there to buy something specific or look for something in particular.. It's very suspicious to be browsing around for 15 minutes unless you're in a game or movie section. Shoplifters usually stall before attempting a theft and usually do buy one or two things as to not arouse suspicion.

It's sad that we needed this kind of testing to make people admit that there is racism in Canada. If you ask every person of colour in Canada, they will tell you the truth. Just believe them. Why doubt? There's a problem right there.

I'm not suggesting this explains what happened in this video at Best Buy but I will say that when I'm at my local Best Buy store and I'm white, that I get asked if I need help every 5 minutes! \nAgain, not justifying this video just adding my experience at BB.

I don't mind being asked if I need help..shoot most of the time I'm lost or can't remember what I need..I call it fine customer service and it makes me mad when I'm ignored..

I am white. And I have been targetted several times as a potential theif. Including one time going to Superstore in pjs and my pic was posted as theif. And my husband worked there (he's black) and told them to take that picture down. My white girl friend worked for Superstore and had her bag of laundry to take to her mother's house after work. The security guard . Ripped open her bag and threw her laundry every where. I have been targetted by Walmart security. (they weren't white). I have been targetted at several stores who aren't white. So. I always ask for my Receipt. They ask if I want it. And I say yes cuz I don't need them thinking or accusing I stole it.

Sooo. Being asked if they need help is a bad thing/racial profiling? I am white.. I get employees coming up asking if i need help.. usually i tell them what i am looking for and it helps alot... I think you should re-examine how you define racial consumer profiling

The first step before understanding a conflict, let alone trying to solve it, is listening. Bravo to CBC for giving a voice to people who are in positions of leadership who represent the disenfranchised, the violated and the overlooked. One thing that can be frustrating about “not seeing a problem that doesn’t involves us immediately” is that we are locked in to our own worldview—and it’s frustrating to be asked to change something we ourselves don’t think needs fixing. The importance of just listening, and being witnesses to specific stories, human to human—and being reeducated on the lingering multi-generational consequences of past and current racism is what needs to be focused on, if you are an individual who feels like nothing is wrong. The task is merely to listen—and doubt your sense of comfort, satisfaction and preference for the status quo. Listening, and doubt can lead to change. Collective change can lead to understanding, and even, healing. It is so hard to doubt oneself at this level because “othering” is a very strong force in tribal instincts and dynamics. To be asked to let go of this seemingly real sense of self and group identity can be extremely unsettling, psychologically. I hope that is somehow helpful for people who are reading, in some way. I wish that our education not only reflected history accurately, but also made it mandatory to learn basic principles of psychology.

Here is the funny thing. If they are asked if they can be helped, they cry about racism...if they aren't asked if they can be helped, they cry racism...so.....WTF. What they need is counseling for their severe paranoia. Paranoia is a vibe you give off just like any emotion. It's a self fullfilling prophecy in most cases.

Is this more of a US / Canada thing? How is it in Australia? I ask because I have never experienced this in the UK ( brown Asian for reference). I am wondering if it is more relaxed in the UK or If I am so lost in my own world that I don’t notice if the staff is following me. \n\nIn my experience, if you look lost, someone might casually ask you if you need help. Otherwise most retail staff seem to be busy with their own work and you have to interrupt their work to ask them something which always makes me feel a little bad.

Best buy employees always ask everyone if they need help!!! They approach everyone multiple times asking if they need assistance I'm pretty sure they work on commission lol that one I dont agree with

There’s a few very flawed tests here. They sent the black guy into best buy, but no one else for comparison. Best Buy now tries to compete with Amazon by focusing on customer service. Everytime I go in there I have 3 employees asking me if I need help, and im white. Also the test where someone looks at a face and has to choose good or bad, is silly. They’re forcing someone to choose between two arbitrary answers. Life is not black or white. I’m not doubting the discrimination minorities face though.

Maybe yes, maybe not. Sales clerk always come and ask if someone needs help. I like the idea when they come and ask and I hate when sales clerk ignore me. There's few stores that clerk ignores customers coming to the store. That's my experience.

I never gave it much thought, but throughout my childhood (I’m 20 now), my family and I would often be asked if we needed any assistance or were looking for anything by multiple employees multiple times when inside a store. The neighbourhood I grew up in was predominantly white. I am Asian.

To be fair every time i go to best buy i get asked by every single employee if i need help, im a 26 yr old white guy. It's just what they're trained to do to help sell their products, it is really annoying though

I've been 6 years here in Canada ... It's the first time I know that when I used to be asked if I need any help, they were actually checking if I am stealing ... I never took it that way .. I always took it positively and that people are being nice to customers ... I prefer to stay in my naivety ... it's easier ... in the other hand as a part time Uber/Lyft driver ... from the middle east ... white riders were generally the best and most polite (apart from very few drunk riders) ... they are miles better than all other races .. including people of my own country ...

The unspoken assumption seems to be that racism is a white problem. Yet across the years I have listened to Black and Chinese people express opinions which, coming from a white person, would have meant a day in court charged with the willful promotion of hatred.\n\nFurthermore, the young woman who has difficulty with people asking where she is from might want to consider the possibility that the other party is genuinely interested in learning more about her as a person. I am a white British-Canadian and am not in the least little bit offended when people ask me about my origins.\n\nIndeed, listening to immigrants and new Canadians share their life experiences and outlooks on things has gone a long way in shaping my own opinions as to how Canada can be a better country than it is now.\n\nCase in point; I have heard immigrants and new Canadians from nations as diverse as Jamaica, Trinidad, Nigeria, Ukraine, and the Philippines compare childrens' education in Canada with children's education in their countries of origin. I am white and I ALWAYS get asked if I need help. Maybe it is just friendly behavior and YOU ARE THE ONES who are profiling the store workers for nothing. You assume they WATCH you when they do NOT and just doing their job.

I get asked if i need help in stores a lot. I usually take em up on it. Even for really trivial things. That'll show em.

you guys should also try going to the Philippines or any other Asian country and being white.. try and get a cab.. they will all ask you if you need a ride.. but you pay tons more than the locals would.. it works both ways and it's just normal... get over it... I rode in Planes staffed by people from China and they could tell I was from Texas.. Got treated very different.... some good and some bad depending on the flight attendant's views on The USA
