As to why, all those immigrants don't start building new houses and apartments in some suburban extra land upon arrival??? I've always thought that immigrants must get a job in the construction industry 1st on arrival, for a while, unless they are highly specialized workforce - it's no-brainer, this way new houses can be ready already?? This gotta be a precondition of green card - don't u think?

I’ve been living in Munich for over a year. Everything is stupidly expensier, tax takes 30+%, fine we do that in Mexico, but an apartment taking 30% to 50% of the remaining? F, I genuinely feel more poor than in my country. Yeah it’s safer and better, but it’s also a big challenge…

Not the point of the video, but why are apartments measured in square feet in Canada?

I would love to live in Germany, I speak some German. But it doesn't make sense for me since wages are low compared to the United States. Its a shame too since I am an IT expert and from what I hear its extremely easy to get in, and most jobs don't require ANY German. But the pay is almost half. Sure, I'd probably make up for this in quality of life improvements versus the United States, but I'd be broke, in a small apartment in a major city, unable to do the things I enjoy in life. Maybe suitable for someone in their 20s-30s, not me.

Racisms is a big issue, apart from wages , language, & loss of direction; companies need workers, politicians say otherwise, immigrant wait till government takes a stand, but any way I am skilled worker, I don't want to get abused by right wings and racists. So good luck.

Once you get the hurdle of the paper work and getting an apartment. It’s pretty amazing being in Germany especially when you find a good social circle and a couple of hobbies to indulge in but also maybe coz Berlin is easier!

Uncontrolled immigration is a problem everywhere in the western world. I live in the US, supposedly one of the best, and had to fight for a long time to get into my apartment. Ignoring legal immigrants, did you know that the US government creates programs where illegal immigrants get free housing?

This is very unfortunate.. a friend of mine fell sick for months and was 6 months behind on rent, she chose to give up the apartment before she owed anything more. It wasnt even a month later that they sent the arrears to collections and trashed her credit despite her trying to set up a payment plan with the management company. Life is very very unfair here

Future skilled labour employment is going to be extremely difficult in EU countries! These countries need to move their industries and Jobs to Asia because they are competing with China! It’s too expensive to pay for a skilled labour in Germany as compared to for example in India. Fewer jobs with good salaries will create a lot of Hate in future local generation. You are expecting people to move here for low wages and speak Good local language while it’s difficult to get apartment, too much bureaucracy, racism, there is no inclusivity. Just a few days ago, I watched a series comparing houses and apartments across Canada, with literal castles in Italy, Switzerland, France, Spain, etc. It's insane. Some of the houses compared were CONDEMNED, and were still worth a decent castle.

I guess I’ll be having to move to the US if I want any chance of getting housing or work. People who haven’t physically seen the stuff that’s happening here only know the bare minimum. Everything is too expensive, there’s no “Canadian culture” anymore, you can’t get a job, you can’t find a decently priced apartment, rooms for rent (private) are going for 1200$ a month in Toronto (and I’ve seen more expensive). I’m not excited to grow old in the country where I was born as it’s being run straight to the ground. It’s very sad.

The real problem is that while millions of people are looking for a house to rent, a small group of people and companies own thousands of condos and apartments, and a handful of monopolies set the prices.

The wealthy elite want open borders to suppress wages. They don't care what kind of gross apartments they will live in.

Ok yea NGL this kinda true. At first I was under the impression this was the exact same thing as the England bs protests. But the Canada issue makes a lot of sense. Like bro I work in downtown and literally as soon as night fall comes u see dozens and dozens of homeless ppl. Canada has to start recognising degrees from other countries. Here in B.C. we have emergency rooms closing overnight due to lack of staffing. We need doctors and nurses yet the barriers for those immigrating to get their degrees recognised mean many never qualify.\n\nCanada also needs to look at who we are admitting in and to terminate the family unification policy. When immigration was helping the country grow there was a different demographic coming in. Often it was single men or young married couples. As they came by themselves they assimilated into the mosiac of the country. When you concentrate on immigrants from one country instead of assimilating they setup ethnic communities. \n\nLook into what study groups have said that is contributing to gang violence. It's ethnic groups that have the grandparents, parents and grand kids all living in one home. The grandparents want the grand kids to adhere to their native culture. Unfortunately by time you get to the grand kids they are Canadian. They speak English/French depending where they live with little interest in speaking their ethnic language. There is cultural conflict within the home hence street life is where they find love and caring.\n\nSome cultures are not as community minded. Part of the high cost of renting/housing is based on greed not need. In my own community I know of apartment units now renting at 2,500 - 4,000/month owned by the same people that even five years back you could have rented for 500 - 800. There is no justification for that percentage of increase other than greed.\n\nJob opportunities. Summer employment for school kids is going down yearly. You see local business that use to hire students over the summer month claiming they can't find any workers. They bring in TFW yet Canadian students can't find work. You can tell the owners nationality of a business by the nationality of the workforce. A local store bought by a east Indian two years ago which at the time had a diverse workforce is now entirely staffed by east Indians. Yet who screams racist? \n\nCanada definitely needs to reconsider its immigration policy and bring in major changes.

$900 to share an apartment (even 1 bedroom) is not outrageous. I paid that much for a 1 bedroom when all prices were half what they are now.

My family moved here in the ‘90s, legally. My parents paid thousands of dollars for residency applications and other legal fees, which also didn’t go smoothly. Our family of five lived in a two bedroom apartment as my parents worked their asses off. We didn’t get handouts or free housing.

41k for an apartment is very extreme there should be laws to keep under 41k. people who are charging 41 for an apartment are the people who hurting our economy. People are charging 41k for apartments is helping to drive insane housing prices up. People are charging 41k for apartments making it possible for a 2008 housing crisis style accour in Canada.

Why they wanna come houses and apartments are expensive

Struggling immigrants are hardly in a league to be driving up rents on 2.5k/month apartments. As explained, governments have bombed on several other fronts that has hurt the whole country.

No one explains why government housing can solve the housing crisis, but not private housing. The money the government can spend in building apartments is very limited unless we raise taxes or borrow large amount of debt.

Yup...story sounds similar to what happens in Sanctuary cities in USA. Cities get over populated and not enough living spaces so people will fit large families in small apartments. Besides, those who are unable to keep a job are pushed to sidewalk homeless encampments.

Increased rents are mostly due to high interest rates, not $6/hr Uber drivers. They cant even afford to stay at $3000/mo apartment. High interest rates = less property sales = higher demand for rentals = increase cost of goods to make up higher rentals. They should thank the homeless ppl to drive down the property values near encampments

For the past ten years all they built is condos for investment and no apartment for rent for the people ,my people we have to look very close to the people we put in power in every level of government in Canada.if we do not start now we will be in the same boat in the future. I would like to know how many past government officials that have invested into the housing market.then we will have a better knowledge on low income housing that are not being built.

I live in rural Atlantic Canada. There is lots and lots of land not being used. People driving long distances from their huge single family home to get to town or the city. If no Canadians are moving to the country side to start homesteads, then why not immigrants. I don't see the point of someone moving to a local small town to work in a Tim Hortons or not if there is no job available and buy franken foods from huge corporations. Instead if some immigrants want a homesteading life (some probably would), give people grants to make apartments in their huge single family farmhouses left from the days when people had ten kids, and subdivide their land so the new people can farm it. The local people can get rent money and payment for the subdivision and still have a large plot of land left over). Grow the local farmers markets! Grow the small towns to what they were 100 years ago! Make it so people only had to drive to the city when they wanted to, not for work. There is so so much empty land out here used for massive lawns.

For me. If you are going to be a landlord. The unit you have must be already paid, if its mortgage dont be a landlord. Because if its already fully paid, whatever happens at the end of the day its still your unit, and the landlord can still sell it the future for the higher price. I am still in favor of the law for the tenant, because this landlords, they tend to put higher price whenever they want, specially those under the table, what ever the trend they can increase the price, or depends on their mortgage interest. It happens to us before, our rent is 800, then next year they are asking for 1,100. So we just moved out, then they rent the place for 1200 for the next renter, now we rent in a legit apartment who follows the percentage each year of rent increase, so we pay on time.

Saying that “to many people are chasing apartments” is not the cause of real estate prices increasing and that the decay of social services and lack of infrastructure is just nonsense Canada has increased the public service sector by 150k job since 2000s it’s the fastest growing sector of job since 2020

Now they only rent on 28 day basis it’s like a quasi airbnb system. you can do it outside of Toronto. make the tenant sign every month. and also furnish the apartment with really basic stuff. the tenants are poor they have no choice.

If you own an apartment or rental be super careful about who you rent to. Check their assets, credit bureau, references, employment. Better to rent for less to get grade A tenants instead.

stop buying property just to rent it out maybe get a real job instead of taking over properties that you dont intend to live in making the housing crisis even worse. same goes for the people who loaned out to make a bunch of apartments airbnb. you aren't providing anything, your taking something thats available off the market and then repackaging it like its helpful. its really a big part of why housing is so expensive no one wants to work they just want to be landlords.

Please cover Dublin sometime. The cost of sharing a room (mind it, not an apartment, a room) in downtown Dublin was 650 euros 5 years ago. I can’t image how it is now.

bro thought being a landlord is a money farm. the girl is in the wrong for sure but we need her side of the story to fully understand the situation. perhaps she's doing what my friend had to just to finally get the attention from the landlord to solve issues in the building. my friend had to go 8 months not paying his rent (keeping that money separately to please lawyers) just so a landlord would get in contact with him about his apartment ceiling caving in forcing the dudes family to live out of their living room. this landlord just wants to retire, i bet the building has major issues thats being ignored.

Man I love reading the comments in this video! We also face a similar challenge in other countries that housing is a crisis and governments keep bringing in all sorts of immigrants, from refugees to highly skilled people (like myself). I have switched 5 cities and the story either gets more worse or less worse. Half a year searching for a decent apartment? Some search for years! It's a full time job. The government gets back to my request after many months! Foreigners offices are packed with applications and citizenship is taking years long now. Getting a doctor appointment (psychological issues) within a year is hard, unless you pay from pocket or are in grave danger. We are being squeezed in here and they started new loose immigration policies to be more attractive to foreigners. Address the quality of life at the same time!

How about all those tenants that are waiting for landlords to fix n repair issues in apartments ?\nPeople buy opportunities have money for renovation but no money to fix issues in other units.\nHow is that fair.???\nThese issues are crazy.

Here in Vancouver BC, there are some Mexicans that sub rent to another Mexicans apartments n belasements to make business out this people. 6-7 people in 1 bed apartmnet !!!!.... Canada has failed in this one.

Do such issues occur for apartment rentals managed by property management companies? Is it better to hire such companies so that we do not have to deal with tenants directly by giving them commissions?
