Thank goodness I chose the United States for my education. In 2010, I had two options -Texas A&M University and University of Waterloo. I thought of Waterloo at first (being top university in Canada vs 15th in US) as I was naive, but Texas A&M gave me teaching assistantship which meant 100 % tuition scholar and monthly stipend. Being from a lower middle class family in India, I took the option. \nEven 13 years down the line, that was the best decision of my life. I had chance to work with best researchers and professors in world, work in highly funded research labs, publish papers and patent and later get good job in my domain. \nI never aimed for green card and moved back to India. I applied for Canada and even received ITA but didn't go ahead. Things are not perfect but even today in India, most people are impressed by some niche work I did in US.

I immigrated from Africa to the US then I made my way to Canada 20 years ago. Life has changed from the time we first moved here. Before with 5k Canadian dollars you would put down for a mortgage and get into the housing market. From 2015 when the Liberals came in power housing market has gone downhill for most even those earning middle class income. \n\nIf you desire to come make sure you have the right paper work. If you are coming as a foreign trained professional. You are okay. Otherwise, make sure you have immediate family willing to help you untill you get on your feet. DON'T COME as a visitor without family to ask for refugee status. You will suffer. Most of those stranded in Toronto are those seeking asylum and shelters are full with those who came from newyork when the borders where shut.\n\nOtherwise if you can pay your bills in Africa just stay there, atleast you have morals. Our elementary schools ? are terrible here with those LGB****%$# stuff pushed on children.

The guy was probably squarely in the middle class in the Caribbean and then moved to a 1st world country and dropped status, because everything is standardized. There are no shortcuts. He therefore feels shortchanged. Canada however ranks high in almost every metric - life expectancy, childhood mortality, quality healthcare, good education system, livable cities, clean air/water, low crime rates ... The only downside is the brutal arctic winters.

As per my past experience I lived 2 years partially without any types of done job or hard work ..So .. I can say that Canada is HEAVEN .. But ... One generation sacrifice for their children future .... If they not have sufficient fund .... As per me .. Canada .. is Best for Either lower middle class who hard work in here India or Rich class people ... For Middle class who never faced any types of Hard work not easily settle in Canada.

I lived in TO and loved the multiculturalism, but the rate of demographic change needs to be managed and new immigrants properly supported and integrated. With the mass immigration of the past 2 decades, with a great share of the immigrants moving to TO and the GTA, what made TO great has been destroyed. Especially with the pressure on rents and house prices as the population sky rocketed. In the early 1990s TO was a great middle class city, now its just like other cities with the rich doing well and the rest struggling to hang on. Left in 2017 and will not be going back.

Been in Aus for 10 yrs now. No doubt that quality of life is better especiallyin terms of road sense, cleanliness and env but thats largeley because of their population to resources ratio and the relevance of cleanliness taught right at schools. However post covid things have changed. Given the current inflation in Aus, the cost of living has tremendously grown. On the other hand, the middle class in India has emerged stronger than the middle class in as in terms of their spending ability. India has far more digitalization than Aus and lot of our jobs are bring outsourved there that i cam tell from my own experience.

The immigrants to mexico also raise the housing costs for them, alot of the immigrants of mexico are middle class Americans bringing in us dollars raising the cost above the mexican locals

If you can communicate in English then it's very comfortable in Canada.\nEveryone is very hardworking, their weddings are simple.\nThey don't spend too much on clothes.....no show off.\nWe need to be more adaptable. \nNot to fuss to much over the food. As an older person who migrated decades ago after protesting in my old country, I encourage young people below 45 to FIGHT for your countries. Fight bad goverments. 7 billion people on the planet cannot move to the few western countries that seem to work and appear attractive on the surface, it’s not possible. The homeless citizens don’t have places to sleep but politicians are lodging new border crossing migrants in hotels at taxpayers expense, creating resentment! \n\nFight those oppressing you in your countries. A pharmacist has to fill anything between 200 to 350 prescriptions, give a certain number of immunizations and see a certain No of patients per day. There is no time for niceties! A corporate professional May work remotely but has to deliver on so many projects he is up till 10pm and only gets up to eat. We have beautiful homes, drive nice cars etc but MUST work like the clock in an assembly line fashion! Most of us pay so much of our income as taxes we end up with less than 70% as paychecks! Things aren’t always what they seem!

In Canada: poverty = yes, Homeless=yes, Shortage of doctors=yes, insufficient medical=yes,\nOut of reach higher education for middle class= yes, long lines at free food banks=yes, crime= yes'\nBeggars=yes, Housing very expensive=yes, almost every middle class person in debt= yes,\nAfter expenses like rent, insurances, taxes almost nothing left for food clothing etc.

Canadian here. I will just say, after our pop increased by 1mil last year due to immigration (including foreign students that still drive up housing as they need to be housed), I can tell that the approval of our current immigration rates are a bit too generous. Maybe the survey was taken only in downtown areas of Toronto or Vancouver, so its really only asking other immigrants if immigration is chill, but that isnt the consensus of the nation. We dont make more than Americans, but we are taxed more (aka why we want more immigrants to get more tax $), and everything costs more here: from housing to food to energy. Its driven up by the current unsustainable immigration quotas. I myself an am immigrant, but when my family and I immigrated 23 years ago, we only took in 20 000 people a year. I wouldnt have an issue on this at all if we were building enough. Enough housing and transit for everyone. enough good paying jobs for all these newcomers. But these people (with excellent degrees) are lied to at the border with a false promise of prosperity, and just end up being uber drivers to make ends meet. Its a truly broken system. If you arent making 150k/year, you are very much considered lower--middle class.

Born and raised in Canada for 64 years, working middle class all my life has shown me that in the last 2 decades the middle class here keep moving towards poverty because of the increased cost of living and taxes. I will likely have to leave my own country when I retire soon and am resentful that all my years of hard work leads to that. Its a choice between living on the streets or moving away. Our government has catered to the wealthy and given false rhetoric about making sure the middle class working Canadians have a decent life. At $2800 for a 1 bedroom apartment, $2 a litre for gas, high car insurance rates, lower wages than other major cities. My tax dollars pay for public parks that now charge to park in them so only the rich can afford to go. That’s just one example of the poor and middle class getting screwed over.

One thing that’s tossed out of consideration is that a higher skilled immigration rate means more skilled people in general competing for the same jobs and depressing already out of sync middle class wages, as a future Electrical Engineer I don’t want to compete with the best from India, China, Pakistan, etc, when I’m already competing with the best homegrown US candidates for ever more demanding and limited entry level engineering jobs

The financial sector is not a good barometer of the economy of a country. I know, it sounds crazy. But, it's true. There are many large businesses from other countries reaping massive profits from Canada which count into the progress of Canada until they decide to leave the country with the money. Also, large companies currently worldwide are more in the mode of pleasing their share holders. Thus, consolidating their businesses and firing hundreds or thousands at a time in those consolidations. The financial sector rarely trickles down their profits at the proper level to keep up with inflation and overall cost of living. This leaves the middle class and poor sinking into an economic abyss as each year passes. Which then leads to less purchasing power by the masses and inevitable economic declines.

All explained here is based on minimum wage thing in canada, if you come in right time of age and get your own job profile then it may be a good option but if you move after 30yrs of age then there can be struggles to sustain. Rich in India and Middle class in Canada

I still don't understand why people waste their prime years running after passport change . Focus on creating wealth instead. Living a below middle class life in Developed country is not great. Also, the actual reason on why these people were denied Australian citizenship is because their skillsets didn't add value to Australian economy. Curious as to why you immediately bailed on the whole issue of vanishing rights for women in the US? I can't even imagine being a woman of child bearing age or the mother of a daughter who could end up with an unwanted pregnancy. I would be leaving ASAP. I have no interest in moving to the U.S., but the main reason people do choose to move there is for money. On average, middle class, upper middle class or upper class Americans are wealthier than the equivalents in Canada. At the top end, dramatically richer. People who are in it for money or for some specific job tend to move to the U.S.

You've got to understand the socio-economic breakdown which is very similar in the United States and Canada. 1% are wealthy, 4% are rich, 5% are professional class, 20% are middle class, 30% are blue collar or skilled working class, 30% are working poor and 10% are poor/economically insecure. Start from there. People shouldn't let politics or people make up their minds.
