One reason, is that we do not have a lot of kids in the US, anymore. From 1940-1980, most homes had 2-5 children living there. There were a lot of kids to play with, and not much to do inside the house besides watch tv. In the neighborhood you're walking through, I'd be surprised if more than two homes on each block have any kids at all.

Block parties, cook outs, neighborhood meetings, bus trips to the beaches, weddings and Saturday clean ups were all apart of our past community's. Yes some still exist. However, anytime Blacks in America have demanded equity, justice, education, health rights, human rights, and fair housing, we are met often with a back lash. Suddenly, rents go up. Houses have doubled or tripled in increase. Crime waves have made it almost impossible for people to come out and relax freely. Political changes have also played a major roll. Neighborhoods have been redlined. Even where one goes to vote has been moved. White racism and fear, entire industry's have moved put of key areas. So thete is a natural break down. Neighborhood meets come to a end and different organizations from schools, to planting trees to parking all get affected due to such changes. Local small businesses that knew each family members also close up and leave. Its not a question of oh you have everything you need in your American house. That is not it! Its more complex. The lack of kids playing out front or the older ladies keeping watch have disappeared also due to no rent control policies.

The U.S. is very large, and there are many different types of people and many different types of neighborhoods, cities, and communities. I have lived where neighbors knew one another very well, and their kids would play ball in the street or play baseball at the local park or playground. I have lived where there are walking trails where you would see the same familar faces time and again. I have lived where there were many community activities. There are places where you can find farmer's markets and where churches are large and hold events. Our town has many groups that you can join, and there is a local theater. There are cities of course, where you can find all sorts of things to do. People do have a tendency in many places to have their spaces, and as most people do have what they need within those spaces...and many are spending more and more time on computers and watching televisions, we are becoming more estranged than we once were. We have come to value privacy. But, again, there are many many people with many different lifestyles. Today I went to shop at two different stores and ended up in conversations with several people. One man invited me to visit his farm. One woman told me all about her home and garden. Another lady told me about her daughter and what was going on with their family. I did not feel like a stranger, and the people I saw working in different businesses today were talkative and interacting with many other people, including friends and neighbors and other familiar faces. it just takes a little effort to smile and to speak. That being done, I was very happy to return to my home and have my own space again, where I knew I could take a nap without anyone knocking unexpectedly on my door. So....it depends on what you want. I would hesitate to paint the U.S. with a very broad brush. \nThat being said, it is very difficult to leave your home behind. It can be very difficult to stop seeing differences because you did love so many things about where you grew up, though you might not realize how much you will miss them until you've gone. I feel that in myself, and I have to be very careful not to miss the potential and possibilities where I am, because I am always thinking about how I miss where I once was.

Great video. I am a Canadian that works with newcomers. I have lived abroad and back again. We recently did a trip to the U.S. A great trip overall but I agree with a lot of your comments about the suburbs. We saw some beautiful neighbourhoods in the US (and here in Canada) but there are almost no signs of life. I grew up in the suburbs and it was nice as a kid because we were always outside but as soon as I finished school, I couldn't wait to get out. My old neighbourhood is now a bedroom community built for the car. Now, I live downtown in a major Canadian city. My house is very small and old but I wouldn't trade it for the world. I always see people, rain or shine, snow or hail. I see families, dogs, dogwalkers, children, seniors with canes. I love it because I see life. Living in a neighbourhood like the one in this video would indeed feel lonely and isolating.

The stress and the pressure we live under is what weighs us down. We do not want to deal with other peoples problems. \n We have compassion fatigue. \nI can totally relate to the person who commented that it was not always this way- especially when we had more people who loved God and less fear about everything.\n When I was a child all the kids played together in groups- until dark and dinner time. People looked out for each other.\n Now, everyone is afraid to be taken advantage of because it happens so much. \n This is very sad. \nLord, have mercy on us. We lost our way.\n The best thing to do is find a community of people to pray with and share your life with.\n Thank you for this video. We needed to hear this. \n Yes, where are the children? No one can afford them anymore.

Everyone's opinion will be different. I am black American. What u see now doesn't mean it's always been that way. When I was growing up in the suburbs of long Island, everyone was outside every chance they got. We kids made up games, jumped rope played in the parks went to the beach concerts etc. The adults, if lived in apartments including housing, sat outside and interacted. Neighbors in houses had block parties, new neighbor welcoming, and so on. One of the reasons at least in my community was that a lot of folks were from the south. Everyone spoke, knew each other in their villages. As time went on and more foreign born moved in things changed mainly because of difference in culture then in some places crime is bad. There's no one shoe fits all. It's different all over this big country.

Tell me one thing , if you dont get the quality of life in your country and you slog your ass the whole day every day all year round and you don't get back in return anything then whats the point ?? I'm so lucky I've got dual citizenship Canadian and British passports so after living in Canada for 10 years I decided to move back to the UK ?? to settle down with my wife and my beautiful kids. One thing I hated about Canada was the weather, public transport, lack of fashion and the foods was horrible. I've spent 10 years and the only thing I like is the Canadian passport that I have and that's all.

Are you kidding me. Quebec is the one province that you feel you're not in Canada. If you don't speak french they don't want to bother with you. Let's not forget how the covid numbers went at the beginning. There's a reason for that. The drivers are crazy.

If you are alone, it is one thing, and if you have a family it is another thing. If you have kids, the easiest and cheapest place to bring them up will be Quebec. The most expensive will be ON and BC. If you think about carrier, and making money you will do it best in ON. If you are about to retire go BC, and better Vancouver Island.?

moved back to eastern Europe after 27 years of Canada... my best friends are Quebecois and my wife (Quebecois again) convinced me to move. The best thing I have done, especially for my kids... no waiting on family doctors, in 20 min you drop your kids to school and are at work, no over taxation, weather you can actually enjoy 365 days a year and very apparent after a while, no press/media dictatorship like the one in Canada.

We want him taking college in Vancouver, we both have a job here in Chile, and it would be a real challenge, I think as you said, the key is to be flexible and open-mind. I want to take a degree while my kids take the college or even high school, I have a lot to think about yet, difficult decision.

It takes me 3 months to get a doctor appointment in the US here in Seattle and I was just told several months to see my eye doctor. Depending on medical plan the insurance means you do not go to the specialist without a referral. So Canadians may not have as much to complain about. My parents were immigrants to Canada because it was easier (my father was in Danish Merchant Marine and was in China Sea when his appointment would come up in New York). They did not have it easy because they did not speak the language and worked hard to learn. Working as a housekeeper was the norm for females and my mother's education meant nothing when she expected to work in a bank. Danes stuck together and helped each other to get jobs, with carpentry (most had apprenticeships like brick laying), to socialize, etc. and this is normal for immigrants. Working multiple jobs was normal and having a great home was their American dream instead of a government apartment. It is true for all immigrants that their kids will do better than the parents. The kids will have no accent if they learn English by age 12. There are age cutoffs on learning a language in child development. During the hiring process the jobs are given to people the interviewer perceives as being like themselves. This is proven by psychologists (I am one). This puts immigrants at a disadvantage unless they have a rare skill without competition. Dad got his house and Mom took my sister and went back to Denmark because of health issues and the US has garbage medical care and social services for the elderly (poor sister didn't speak Danish because it wasn't allowed in case it impacted our English skill). As a daughter of immigrants I worked 20 hours days and weekends almost all my life. I put myself through school and have been successful despite being female and making much less than men. Immigrants need to realize that it will be their kids who make the big bucks and succeed while the parents who immigrated will struggle. As a cultural mix (US, Canadian and Danish citizen because of wacky sexist rules) I have had a lot of confusion over the years trying to fit in and figure out what my values are. I have had to ask my US husband is that behavior normal? Of course different states in the US or going 200 miles north to Canada means a different language to speak (Canadian or Spanish in the South) and different values, ways of dress, etc. so being an immigrant can mean just traveling 200 miles north or to an insane state like Texas or New York. Culture shock is everywhere but most of us move for the money. I am thinking of going back to Canada but my home was Vancouver and that now looks like a hell hole. My husband had over a million dollars in medical care and I really do not wish to lose all my assets to medical costs in the US. So now I am trying to choose between death by earthquake in BC somewhere or death by tornado or perhaps fire storm in Calgary due to climate change.

As a half century Canadian I have this piece of advice to all who want to come live here, in Canada, you MUST work, then you MUST contribute at least 30% of your salary to all Canadian benefits including a pension plan, healthcare, education, and low income help is also available. Then you get old and your Canadian kids think of which old folks home they will put you in, if you're lucky you have a good and safe life from war, gun violence, a fair election system, and open arms to ANY human that wants to become Canadian, and that's about it.\nSo if you're in for a free ride, or a easy living off way of life, forget Canada.\nThe beaver is our emblem, hard working, never quit, perseverance and determination.\nCanadians are known around the world for one thing, ? we are kind and forgiving.\nStay safe, and sorry you didn't like Canada, can't be perfect.✌️??✌??

Owning your own home nothing but a dream now......a lot of families stuck in apartments, both working decent jobs, maybe one kid, and they can't save enough for a down payment.

I would like to add wages are different ((higher)in some provinces so are the rents (lower). One more thing both parents can work only if kids are in school. Parents with younger kids need a daycare so their experience can be different.

I like how y’all have created this video by not applying a negative undertone rather more of an informative approach to caution prospective movers of what potentially awaits them. All I would like to highlight is the fact that some people will experience all these points as negative aspects or maybe even one or two that might lead to the breaking point.\nIt all depends on where you come from and how life was in your “home” country.\nYou might come from a higher tax environment with non existent healthcare and education. From that perspective, 40% taxes might look better and the healthcare might be great or crap depending on what your health issues are. I personally haven’t had any struggles with most of these aspects - finding a great job was relatively easier, (key word - relatively) the healthcare system worked for me when I needed it to, I was mentally prepared for the high taxes, I culturally adapted to the point where people thought I was Canadian and didn’t realize I came in from a very different environment. I’m sure this cultural adaptation helped me with my job and made it easier to live here.\nAll in all, you can say I’ve had the “perfect” immigrant experience that most people would dream of. But what do i think really? Personally, I have come to realize that Canada at the moment does not fit into my personal goals and values and that is okay. Loneliness away from people you love can be tough. It just isn’t the same feeling making new friends and hanging out with coworkers who are much older than you are and in a different place in life. I’m very close to my family and friends who I’ve grown up with and are on the other side of the world. My parents are getting older and I want to spend as much time with them as possible. For that reason, I might consider being somewhere closer to them. I’d perhaps consider coming back here some day when I’ve got my own family and kids which I currently don’t have. To me, that’s a personal value high on the list. I guess my only takeaway from this video and advise to people looking at each of these points - take each one and compare it with your home country. If you think you’re better off in Canada, then move - it’s a great place! If not, think about it real hard and weigh out the pros and cons.

I lived everywhere in Canada except the Territories, Manitoba, and N.B., and I always come back to Quebec. It's NOT that it's better in everything. It's just that it's better in everything that counts for ME!!!\n- It's the CHEAPEST place to rent or own but has great wages and a high minimum. \n- Most of our cities are in the St-Lawrence valley. That means we have a LOT of local produce in-season. \n- We have a diversified economy. Less manufacturing and heavy stuff than Ontario, but LOTS of high-tech and knowledge-based jobs. With a HUGE service industry, bloated by the constant influx of tourists.\n- It's got the BEST quality of social life in the country. It's an all-year party and club season. \n- It's got FOUR real and distinct seasons.\n- It's almost as beautiful outside as BC. Until autumn and the colors, then it's better for a few weeks.\n- It's got the BEST social net in the country. \n- It's got the most beautiful women too. No question whatsoever about that one.\nAnd it's the SAFEST... That and being cheap to live in are the two main points. I'm bilingual, so I don't care about the French-only oddities, they are few and far between. It's 2021, not 1980. The Internet and Cable tv from the US changed EVERYTHING. ALL of the kids and young adults will answer you in English if you aren't acting like a jerk. So will almost anyone under 60.

Nobody touched the politics in Canada. I guess, it is the #1 reason to leave Canada. Both leading parties Liberal and Conservative equally irresponsible in taking decisions, they care only about staying in power, no solving real, tough problems. \nThe education in schools is too basic. In many cases is incomparable with education in other developed countries, Asian, for example...\nThen after....another disturbing tendency- radical liberal education- \nsexeducation in school - fluid gender identity theory. \nGovernment tries to do ratification of some very controversial laws about changing gender (sex) for kids from 12 years old without parents's permission. I found it is too radical, too dangerous for kids feature. \nThink one more time, would you like to raise your kids in a such political atmosphere? I think is it the most important question! I m from Lahore. Running my own business last year i made around 6 million pkr profit. And I started my business 3 years back. With lot of hard work and consistency i am able to make it and is hoping to increase it further. But after watching your videos i discussed my intention to try for Canadian Immigration with my wife.\nIs it worth trying for it?\nThe only reason is even after making good money you are ensalved to system. We work with different gov offices like fbr, customs and PRA. There attitude is pathetic that is why we have to work middle men and pay him commission. Moreover i m not able to adjust in this environment. The school system is pathetic. I don't like private schools and how they are looting middle class parents. Same is with Doctors. One of my friend who have well established textile business got their mother admitted to one very famous hospital in DHa lahore. Doctors almost killed her mother just to make more money. For very minor issue they paid around 2 million rs to different Private Doctors. And 3 to 4 operations without even doing ct scan. I luv my kids and would never like them to grow in this environment...

Interesting untold fact . During the entirety of the Atlantic slave trade Canada had 4700 registered slaves (Natives didn't register their slaves) Out of that 30% were black . It was abolished in many regions of Canada by 1797 and all of Canada by 1834 . But Canada still had indentured servitude until the early 20th century . They would round up kids on the streets of Europe and the ones that survived their passage here usually didn't make it to adulthood . Another problem after abolition were the natives still practicing slavery . The numbers of slaves in Canada was very small . Compare it to the Barbary slave trade . A persons personal outcomes in Canada have everything to do with what they put in . The fact is most black Canadians are not descendants from slaves in Canada .

It is such a shame that follow Asians and even American Natives play such a role in perpetuating racism against African descent people, but I guess they have their issues of identity. That should not be so difficult to calculate. We're faced with higher mortality and disease rates, covid 19 has rubbed that to our eyes, care systems medical world is in less favour and neglect black communities. On a day-to-day, I am so insulted about the security guard that follows me in the shop, it is so disrespectful and embarrassing, that makes me move suspiciously indeed, yet so low and ignorant I don't even want to have to confront the issue. \n\nI agree with the writer who writes about his experience (and shame?) of being a black man in Canada- the same is institutionally reflected in Europe and across the world let's not be naive, we're not welcome but they should know they have no choice. I believe what he really is trying to express is based on the fear of being a black man in a hostile environment, but we should certainly have nothing to be ashamed of. \n\nOn contrary, we should be very proud because we are still here, like any other citizens paying our taxes and playing positive roles in society by major. 3:53 born and raised, I worked in the fine/dining as secondary job most my adult life, ITS 100% BS THAT ITS EXPECTED. I don't care how it started but if you did just your job a server you get just the hourly. This idea that tipping is standard is basically rewarding bad behavior.. something I refuse to.\n\nIv had the odd waitress get snarky and if the food was high quality, while the service was garbage. Iv gone directly to kitchen staff and given them a tip cutting the server out completely normally they only give 10% of there total tips to the kitchen and I don't know any one server that claim more that 35% of there tips come tax season.\n. ohh I should mention prior to covid lockdowns a decent sever at an average bar takes home an average of $200 a night on top of their hourly wage so with the standard of 15 per h that's 120 + 200 that is 320 in a 8 hour shit that $40.00 and rough hour after 37 since I don't know a single one paying the proper taxes. A Friday/Saturday night should bring in well over 400.\n\nNow contrary to popular belief a restaurant must let view the kitchen if requested that's why you can see the kitchen in fast food places. \nAnd vice versa don't you kids yourself.\n\nThe most iv seen a server be tipped from a single table is $6,500\nIn one night $15,000\nVery rare even in mist fine dining.\n\nIf you knew a server complaing about income prior to covid lockdowns that ment 1 of 3 things\n1. addiction\n2. We have to stop pointing at races, colors, nationality, religion for reparation ... we need to focus on the real issue ... you have big corporation getting out of control, billionaire now becoming trillionaire. That is crazy knowing that a lot of us are stuck at the bottom and real estate is getting unattainable, some part of the world people don't even get clean water ... wealth distribution is terrible and is getting worst every months. There's a need for a reset button, it's okay that you make money and that some go to your kids but there should be a limit of how much wealth one group of people should be able to get. Government aren't the solution because people in power there are put in place by the same group that need to be corrected ...

I think we need to come close to each as one humanity. We should at least talk and explore those all different skin colors men and women. Not all of them are bad. 20:09\nLol this just happened at my local Walmart \nIt rang twice so a white couple got beeped on their way out and they stop and look around and just walk off \nAnd on my way out a single person a white dude beeped when he was leaving and he didn’t stop he just left....\nOkay now a month before a native family gets beeped and they are chased even when they stop like as soon as it beeped one of the workers just started a jog towards them and asked them all to come back in and searched all their bags while the kids were cryin..so their was this huge scene and at the end they were told they can leave...it happens sooooo much it’s like apart of Walmart staffs training or something lol

Okay so this is how third country agreements work. The paperwork in the offices in places like El Salvador is piled higher than the fkn Empire State. Nobody in their right fucking mind would want to wait until their wives are raped, kids taken into cartels. If I'm gonna go by the third country agreement, my family will be taken out one by one by the members of the cartel before the embassy even starts considering my case. So that leaves me with no damn choice but to cross the border illegally. And even then, there's no safety as I'll be hounded by the same guys all the way to the southern border with the States.

I have done this experiment for myself and my kids. I entered a dollar store twice with a big backpack in a no backpack policy store and no one said anything. I did it after I saw a black man not to enter the store. That was sad.

This happens both ways and is very real in Canada, but the racism against white community is just as bad if not worse than the other way around. Landlords won't rent to white people especially with kids. Some stores dont hire white people anymore. It's very Sad and it's in our faces but once again no one has the stones to dare say anything about it.

know one guy that has 15 kids in China,, women wanted to have sex with him so they will have a baby and use that baby when he or she turns 21 to come to the USA,, otherwise they never will... He does pay them money about 15 to 20 dollars a month which is a lot for them, and helps them in other ways as well, He goes to china and stays 2 or 3 months stays with one of the different women a week at a time, The want to have more then one child with him so it increases their chances

About apartments i didn't get what's wrong? Im owning two flats, not in Canada but in Europe and I do not accept families with pets and more than 2 kids. Yes I do not accept arabs, because they smoke a lot and im my apartment I do not allow to smoke.And? People cold have preferences. I prefer young family with one child. I don't care about wishes of others, when they buy they own properties they can give them even for free

i got racially profiled . i went to an up scale outdoor mall. Full off super wealthy White ppl . I was with my friends in a candy store .. i bought a sprite and told the lady to keep the receipt . i didn’t think i needed it . it was only like 2 bucks. Long story short an older lady who was in her 50’s about ( white ) accuses me of stealing tells the workers to chase after me . As i’m walking out . One of the lady’s grabs my shoulder and ask me if i paid for that . i said yes i did. she asks for my receipt and i told her i just bought a sprite and didn’t think i needed it She tells me to STAY PUT . i said uh ok. She ask the lady at the register if i paid and she said yes . Remind u everyone in the store is white i’m the only black kid . Also i’m 13. My friends confronted the lady without me asking . i’m thankful for them

I learned something new today from watching this documentary, the fact that they actually named a town & a park Africville in the great white north. Some people are naive while others are not when it comes to racism. The very fact of the world has been conquered & dominated with the white supremacy mentality leave very little to be surprise that Canada had slaves. I think from what I've come to understands is that having slavery for 250 yrs most white Canadians will pretend to not be racist, but it's like those two kids in your class the one who had the paper thrown at him & the one who did it doesn't act like he did anything & the rest are just as bad because they saw who did it but are complicit by not saying anything. No one wants to be the rat, but at the same time they all know why the one kid that threw the paper did it & the one that had it done to them knows exactly why.
