If home prices drop because there is more homes being built that gives everyone an advantage. I don't even know what percentage of people own 100% of their home but I don't think it's that many, and that's going to drop significantly as well. I know there's tons of studies done yearly on the effects of stability on children and mental health, good grades, good health. All these things generally improve with safety and stability and it's consistent. If you are someone who can actually afford to buy your own house, you could just buy a cheaper house and invest the rest in something else. It's actually better to have diversity than to sit there hoping no one builds houses so you can maintain some high value property. And this likely will lead to a collapse as well. It's unavoidable in the long term

You're far too kind. Toronto today is a cesspool, and the palest imitation of what it was even 15 years ago. But the further back you go, the better it was. My father was able to buy a large, 3-story detached house for around $225,000. Today, that might buy you a parking space.

I live 4 hours away in Windsor and we have had tons of GTA people coming down here and buying houses, pushing up prices and preventing locals from buying. The Canadian government on all levels are corrupt and did jack to prevent any of this and now jack to addess it.

I lived there for 13 years. Loved it. Then COVID happened, lost my job, got evicted, had to move back in with my mom in Vancouver. Another unaffordable city. Can’t afford it here, or there but am looking at buying a house in the EU

As a new comer, I know it’s hard to advance your career, make friends or buy property. \nMy son is 23 and will probably never be able to own a home and he wants to leave Canada for a better quality of life. \nRaising taxes, high rent, the failing healthcare system, and poor quality of life (plus the cold weather) are all factors that should make immigrants NOT want to come here. \n\nAs far as making friends, you hit the nail on the head. People in Canada are polite, but not friendly. I find it the same here in Toronto. You’re most likely to build friendships with people you work or go to school with. I feel we lack the sense of “community” and don’t put in as much effort to maintain friendships. \nI blame the weather for this.

Wonderful! You can buy all the empty houses and make a ton of money as a landlord. As people leave, real estate prices in Canada should be falling. Don't complain about Canada's taxes; they are half of that of Europe and Australia/NZ. And you must love the national healthcare!

New Zealand is in the same boat. High cost of living, high rents, house prices are way too high. Think these problems are world wide. We also opened the door to a particular country to come in and buy up properties due to incompetent governments.

I was born in North York in 1955. Used to be the cleanest city in North America. Beautiful, modern, safe. Now, I'll be blunt. to parrot a phrase from Trump, it's a SHITHOLE of a city. Nothing but condos, you can't even see the lake anymore. Every 6 months when I go downtown from Aurora there another 30 condos being built. Often owned by foreigners with lots of money, who buy up 3-5 units at a time. Parking and traffic are impossible. Green spaces like Allen Gardens are now owned by homeless, not the taxpayers. The government is a far left leaning one, which means let the whole world in, no matter if there are no services, driving up debts by increased spending, and resulting in a place only the very rich can now afford to buy a house or pay rent for a tiny crummy one bedroom unit. I even give up free Leaf tickets when I'm offered, it's just not worth the aggravation of traffic and tons of people. Good luck!!!

We came to Canada in seventies, and it takes at least 5 to 8 years to settle here. These days, people are doing well in India. There is no need to move here. Canada has also changed a lot. I know people who came to Canada returned to india after 5 months. Not once twice. They came back and are well settled. I will say if people are doing good in India and have a big circle of family and friends in India. Then they won't be happy here. Finding a good job takes years in some case. It's your luck too if you find a decent job then you will be ok. The worst thing here is long winter. You get tired of cold and snow. Now the cost of living is very high, renting or buying a house is very expensive. In the end, most people make it.

Lol you mentioned the housing crisis is the worst in Canada but it's actually even more worse in Australia. Canada and Australia are eerily similar. Both lazy former British colonies. Seriously this video could have been about Australia. At least you guys banned foreign buyers from buying houses, Australia has done nothing.

Very interesting video, all was well explained. But the situation it's the same here in Europe, and maybe is even worse, in Italy you die of hunger! Salary is so LOW and never changed in more than 20 years, and rent of houses is crazy! It's insanely high and with your salary you can't pay the rent (even if you are a doctor, nurse etc..) you don't have money to buy an house and if you pay a rent you can't spend money on anything else. People here live thanks to their parents savings (who has this luck). The situation is very bad, young people can't find a job because there are no jobs available, it's really hard to live. Cities are dirty and degraded. In public health care you have to wait months and years for a visit, you are forced to go private and pay a lot of money. So I think the situation is serious everywhere. If you know a place where you are paid well and there are no such problems let me know.

Canada is selling a dream to immigrants. Almost no immigrant can afford buying a house in the city. Besides, the city is dirty and expensive; from cell phone data, through food and insurance. It's a fraud. You moved to Canada at the worst time, this is rough for everyone now, well because of politics and stuff. BEFORE 2016 life was great! I was able to buy a house in GTA, find jobs no problem, lots of jobs even during 2008, make good money to rent and save for house. And go out every weekend wow! How about now? You are lucky if you can find a place to rent! Current gov really messed things up! Too bad new comers will just think this is normal, and now know how bad the gov made it for everyone and still making it worse with making up new taxes making everyone poorer, except themselves.

Idk how everyone seems to be confused why we have so much homelessness. Israels national investment firm called black rock has been buying up American housing for years. They were very outspoken about their plans to buy everything, and hold onto it indefinitely while renting it out for very high rates. Every politician has bought 50 or more homes to do this with as well. Tucker carlson has a load of them, as well as every other tv personality. People from other countries stay 10 people per home, and collectively can afford much higher rates than americans living 1 family to a home, again driving rates ever higher. Government is soley responsible for the dollar becoming worthless so quickly. Wages will never keep up. The government makes more money by cramming as many people as possible into the country, directly at the expense of quality of life for the citizens. Nobody is protecting the interests of American citizens. We are all getting robbed blind by predators while we all appear to be blind deaf and dumb. Nothing happening is an accident. Every loser creates a winner somewhere.

You are politicizing a health crisis? We lost a million during covid. Huge Canadian ( and the UK) property management companies are in the US buying up blocks of property and jacking up the rent, contributing to our housing crisis. That is an import that has devastated our communities. Canadian companies are making every city a playground for the rich. This is all true. It's impossible for most people to buy a home now, especially with Chinese and Ruzzian money laundering in the housing market driving prices out of touch with reality. The health care system should change its name to human plumbing operations department so people don't get too optimistic about their chances of survival. Food is unbelievably expensive and booze and cannabis are true luxuries, but necessities in such a depressing society. A hockey game, our pastime, will cost you two days pay for an average salary. Traveling, from local transit to airline, is double any other country I've been to. What's missing? Oh yeah, Winter!

heath care is horriable. there are to many people and the healtcare cant take care of so many people thats also a problem if you want to bring people in also make sure your healthcare is in order the hole country is going the wrong driction usa is lot better more pay, lower taxes, more carrer opptunites affordable houseing.. It's well-connected, plenty of greeneries (many well-maintained public parks), relatively conservative Muslim society, tasty foods, affordable cost of living and foreigners can buy housing (for now, the threshold is RM 1 million). So maybe these can be your considerations :)

I am saddend by the number of people who have chosen to leave Canada, although I realize that this is a good decision for you and many others. This country has changed, and not for the better. Greed has taken over with grocery conglomerates eliminating competition and raising prices for record profits. Buying a house now requires a lottery win, not just a mortgage. It seems that we are working to pay taxes and the banks and the insurance companies. And I have yet to hear anything meaninfull about this situation from the government on these issues. Step one to better housing market: not one individual or family should buy a house/apartment for an entire year. All should go to local/neighborhood companies when it comes to internet and cellphone providers. As for healthcare: Stop paying your monthly healthcare fee - which used to be $60 per month and I think is $90 or more today? ........for what?

Little off topic observation but its strange that you say you are an extreme introvert yet on video you seem super confident and outgoing. I’m American from New Jersey my husband is from Alexandria Egypt we have a house there that his parents lived in until they passed away we use to go for 6 weeks every couple years last time we were there was about a yr before she passed now his sisters just watch over our. House I told my husband I kinda wanna sell it and buy a better one cause it hurt me when we went the last time to be in my bedroom because I knew that was my father in law’s favorite place he could go in and shut everyone out but losing his ma I don’t think I can handle going in there now

I’m a Canadian living in Asia. Canada is a great place if you have money and a good job and house. If you’re an ordinary person it’s not so good. You’ll be working about 50 weeks a year and living paycheck to paycheck. Vacation? Savings? Buy a house? Probably not

As someone who moved Canada 3.5 years ago, I agree with all the reasons mentioned. There are many things government could have done better to fight against the inflation, housing crisis, high cost of living and rise in crime and homelessness. I don't even want to mention about the taxes. Like I am almost giving half of my salary to the government yet they are still taking %13 more on what we spend on, yet I've never seen a single place where that money was used to address any of these problems. One of the reasons I moved to Canada was to have a better life style, more buying power and better future for my future kids. But at this point I feel like I am living in a zombie land. High skilled workers will have some other opportunities elsewhere but refugees and low skilled workers will be stuck in Canada and it will get only worse with the current policies.

Since the liberals with the leadership of Justin Trudeau took over, 10 years ago, in the federal government, Canada has become a pathetic place to live. Socialism has destroyed the entrepreneurial spirit. Taxes are very high and professional immigrants can not practice their occupation since it is not recognized by the government. The government prints money and gives generous handouts to those that don’t work with the result that the debt has reached uncharted territories and the Canadian dollar has lost more than 35% of its value against the U.S. dollar. Healthcare is horrible since you have to wait for months to see a medical professional or have an operation. The country is run by monopolies and oligopolies in banking, and telecommunications. To buy or rent a house is extremely expensive. Finally the winters are long and cold and when you see the sun you feel is a real treat!

You should consider moving to Africa in countries like Ghana,Nigeria,Kenya,Uganda,Rwanda,and most Especially Tanzania and Gambia which is dominated by majority moslems .You can buy a house there,houses are cheap,weather is very beautiful people are friendly,it very safe,You can live a dream life while there.l plan on retiring to Africa one day,slowly preparing for it.

Canada is becoming worse every day anyway!!! Salary are low (while cost of living is skyrocketing), which is why we have so many Canadians and immigrants who are becoming so anxious, depressed and facing all sorts of mental problems), people are moody, quality of life is decreasing and transport is trash compared to France and the lack for doctors is making this country look like a third world\nEconomy!!! You just need to live in smaller city like Quebec city or smaller town , it's way way cheaper , just skip Toronto , Vancouver ,south BC and Ottawa .... In Quebec city for example you can buy a decent house for 350000$ people just have to be smarter

Cost of living is unbearable even if you are earning six figures it’s pointless, and worse is housing, you need a minimum $1.3 million to buy any house even 50KM away from city with no infrastructure, There is no chance you can afford it. Honestly, most problems in Western countries can easily be solved simply by curbing immigration at this point! Housing crisis in California is similar to housing crisis in Canada, and what’s the cause?? Immigrations and foreign investors. The Chinese people have been buying tons of properties in California to the point that they have priced out all the locals.

Excellent video. I am a 29 years old Canadian with high education. I make 125K/year and yet after 2-3 years of looking actively I still can't manage to buy a house near the city as a first time buyer. I made many offers but lost every time. The demand is so high and the offer so low that many people bid way above the asking price even though the prices are sky high. Most of those people sold their previous house for a lot more than they bought it many years ago and therefore, are able to do so. First time buyers like myself don't have this advantage and the ones with lower salaries might never have the chance to have a house except if they move far from the city. Our government does not slow down on immigration because there is a labor shortage due to the older generation retiring but they don't build enough houses and allowed foreign investors for too long which results in the housing crisis we are currently in. My father bought a decent house near the city for the equivalent of 2 years of his gross salary at the time... Now the equivalent is more than 4-5 times my gross salary even though I make more than him at the time (taking inflation into account). Our healthcare and education systems are falling apart as well. Both are currently on strike in the province I live in due to terrible work conditions and salaries from our government. The cost of living has increased considerably in the last few years as well, especially the food even though the companies are making record net profits this year. Yeah... Canada is not doing well right now.

Canada let in 430,635 people in July and sep population went up 1.1 percent sense 1957 were hey let in 198,000 people Canada keeps letting so many people in and yet can’t fix the housing shortage. Housing is very cheap for those that bought and/or rented and stayed 15+ years ago. Rent controls keep rents cheap (for them) and people in place as they do not want to move and take a higher rent and/or higher mortgage payment. This hides the problem until you find yourself evicted , break up or some event forces you into the housing market and then you get clapped.\n\nThis is an issue around the world in most developed countries. This is because the rich have optimized the system. Basically if you compare the world economy to a game of Monopoly. Being a young person is like joining the game with your $200 of start money and going against the winning player that owns all the properties and basically won but has not yet driven everyone to bankrupt or a rage quit! \n\nRich people are finding the way to underdeveloped countries to take safe haven from the mess they caused, only to start the cycle all over again driving up land prices in placed like Mexico. We have an issue when the Canadian, Australian etc dream is to buy property, get renters and move to central / south America.

We need to normalize a simple lifestyle and stop normalizing debt. Huge SUVs, huge houses and private universities are simply not necessary. WHERE are municipal politicians supposedly limiting the construction of homes? I don’t see it. \n\nWe are aware that there are regulations in place to protect buyers and that self-serving industries lobby to do away with, as those protective regulations can reduce profits. Some provincial governments (like Alberta) are highly sympathetic to lobbies and industries, to the detriment of citizens. \nWhy are you not pointing to the fact that successive federal governments of the past stopped funding the construction of lower cost housing (thereby creating more demand AND our number one problem of unmitigated greed throughout the real estate and home building industries? We have some people in government attempting to get more low cost homes built while industries know that they can make more money building houses that are far, far bigger than people NEED. Dumbasses and keep-up-the-Jones folks unwisely buy these homes and then many of them have difficulty affording a lifestyle that they think they are entitled to. Meanwhile, lower income earners have been priced right out the market. Of course, capitalists and real estate investors like Pierre Poilievre will never admit that these are our actual problems. Regulating the construction and real estate industries could have gotten a lot more homes built in higher density for young and lower income Canadians, as well as for our newcomers. \n\nToo much blind and poorly informed anger, selfishness, and foolishness going around. Canadians of the past who pulled together during world wars would call us weak and entitled.

I am a Canadian and I am puzzled by many of the claims you make. First housing price will vary a lot depending if you are in Vancouver, Toronto or Quebec City. Where I live, in the greater Montreal area, it's not difficult to buy a house if you have 2 median salaries. You say healthcare is expensive ?? It's mostly free (paid by our Taxes) and there are a lot of jobs posted. Almost all companies have a very hard time recruiting as there are very few candidates. The only thing I will give you is grocery price which is indeed expensive. Ultimately I agree that Canada is not great but where would I go ??? U.S. , Western Europe or every where I can think of is even worst in most respect.

Many of the issues you bring up are the same here, but I am willing to deal with those over the impending chaos we are seeing down here. I am an American living close to the border in Buffalo, but I am considering a move to Canada due to the political climate down here. I would rather pay a little more in taxes & gas than deal with the Christian Taliban we are heading for. The Canadian housing market can be fixed, food prices can come down, but once you start losing rights, it's time to consider your options. When I (a straight white guy in his 50's) can see the writing on the wall, it's getting close to time. That being said, living in a state (New York) that will fight the incoming stripping of our rights, will buy us a few years. I can deal with all the other things (high housing costs, soul crushing medical debt, overpriced college, & out of control gun violence), but we are way too close to a civil war for my comfort. I travel up and down the east coast and don't believe what they are saying, we are way too close to a pre-WW2 Germany situation for anyone to feel safe. The amount of gun owners threatening violence is very concerning.
