I don't think anyone truly understands how difficult, time-consuming and painful the US immigration process is unless they either work in the system or have immigrated. My dad has been waiting for an F4 visa since 2007 (priority date December 2007) to come to the US and be reunited with his family, It doesn't look like he'll get the visa within the next 5 years even though he's been waiting for 16 years.He's just one of the millions of people trapped in the broken American immigration system.His experience has thought me to never even try to immigrate to the US.

The arbitrary aspect of the immigration system is the most depressing aspect of living here in the US. I guess when the system was implemented it may have had some use (such as being impartial to everyone by employing a lottery system) but these systems are pretty outdated at this point and only a leverage for political parties to throw gang signs at each other talking about how bad immigration is. I also don’t think anyone wants to solve immigration problems really, I mean even some of the nicest local people I know throw their hands up like “I don’t know” and I think it’s because immigration suffers from the same thing that many other problems suffer from and that is a lack of focus. Illegal immigration takes up so much time and space that fixing legal immigration seems like a daunting challenge and not at all worth trying. If I were a betting person I would never hedge my bets on immigration, I just need to have the time to digest and understand a lot of knowledge about how immigration helps me and my country. It’s honestly up to the Government imo to give it the proper fix it deserves but, again, why bother if it doesn’t help?

This is an invasion. You don't just push your way into a country. Anyone entering illegally needs to be immediately deported and never granted citizenship in the future. They show a blatant disrespect for our country and our laws. If they can't respect our laws before they're even here, what's makes anyone think they'll respect them once they're in? To those who say these aren't criminals, I say by entering illegally they made their very first action on US soil breaking the law and committing a crime. Criminals trying to push their way into America en masse, with no jobs and no place to stay, both of which are legal immigration requirements in every country in the world one may wish to immigrate to.

My best friend is from Bangladesh and is only staying here past her graduation in chemical engineering because she decided to go to grad school. If there were more opportunities for her in industry, though, she probably would've just gotten a job. Very few wanted to sponsor her or anyone's visa, though. She's constantly telling me how she's thinking of moving to Western Europe or East Asia someday. It's so sad for us to make our country undesirable for immigration just because we make it difficult.

It’s strange to think that the average American thinks that 40% of the population is immigrants. I would assume that the average joe assumes anyone that is not white, black, or Native American is probably an immigrant.

Sorry Tyler, but as a US immigrant born and raised in America who lived there until I was 69 and who happens to also be a minority in several ways, I can agree with the Canadian who lived in the states for 6 years and found it intolerable and for the same reasons only I was often on the receiving end of the craziness. Before anyone comes at me I lived in Chicago, Kansas City, New Orleans and Houston and visited several other cities, so I had a pretty broad experience of US society. And I would have left the states much earlier, but I didn’t have the money as family responsibilities drained all my resources. I’ve been living in Latin America mostly Mexico and have more peace of mind, feeling of safety, lack of discrimination and affordable life then I ever did in the states. I will not be moving back if I can help it ever. Peace!

What gets to me is how anyone of Latino American decent can take on a job of Border Patrol officer, who are they to deny other immigrants the same opportunity they got ? Anyone who is criticizing these immigrants from wanting to come to America should ask them selves where did your grandparents or great grandparents come from? What situations were they in that they needed to flee from? Nobody wants to leave their home country. They’re desperate to do so because of war and crime. There is enough for everyone to be here. If we had an immigration program where after passing a background anyone can join a roving us work immigration camp where for 5 years they’ll work and get free education afterwards so they can save and pick up american work and life culture. \nFor 5 years every new migrant will be building roads, laying water and electric lines and building homes and neighborhoods. This will bring cost of living way down here in the USA while doing a faster better job of Americanizing our newcomers. We would be able to rise our population level really fast without harming the American white picket fence dream. \nLastly the program won’t be available for just migrants, our own people can get guaranteed work if they would like to join the program.

It makes me happy to see all the comments of legal immigrants to the US who are angered by this. Personally I have no issues with legal immigration from any country and I respect it and I'll break bread with you cuz your an American now like me. This is what occurs when you fail to secure your boarders and ensure you protect those boarder with robust enforcement. Would anyone allow free entry to their home to anyone? My work which is at a hotel just got a bunch of Puerto rican immigrants who are working and living at the hotel for free and they get paid and they treat all the other workers with disrespect and leave everything a mess and break rules constantly and can’t even talk to the managers and we’re all trying to be as understanding as we can be because I honestly can’t imagine going through immigration like that but still there’s no rules for them and meanwhile us other workers who are American and don’t get paid as much and don’t have the amenities that they do it’s just kind of a ridiculous situation in my opinion. There’s no structure or organization with it and it doesn’t make sense that we’re illegally transporting immigrants all over the us and giving them the free pass for most all things without even going through the legalization process. Like I can completely understand immigration and see nothing wrong with it when it’s done legally, but I don’t understand why we’re disregarding the people already in the long process of legally immigrating. I might just be very ignorant in the issue but that’s my personal take on the issue. It doesn’t make sense to me. I will say I have absolutely nothing against any person who’s an immigrant but just the rules and regulations surrounding the situation. I don’t mean to step on anyone’s toes or offend anyone.

If they are not making $40K/year (assuming the majority has not a college degree in something marketable, advanced skills, a tradesman or artisan) then they’re struggling like everyone else in the service industry. Jobs for teenagers, entry level workers, part time jobseekers like for students, people needing extra income cause it’s so expensive in CA, NY, Austin, TX, Chicago or SF living off work entry-level service jobs. Technology has created a shortage or labor gap between unskilled jobs. Jobs that Americans need while pursuing training or technical degrees for the new skilled jobs. \n\nImmigrants do not need to fit the stereotypes of working in the service industry or as farm workers. American citizens can fill these labor positions quite easily. No, immigrants, work visa or not, do not work any harder, smarter, slower or faster than anyone else wanting to work. If someone is motivated to work an unskilled labor job then they will be just as effective as the next person. The HR for these companies definitely virtue signal and satisfy diversity quotas every time they hire someone due to their work status or ethnicity. Everyone and anyone can be replaced and so the question is, who do you, as an employer, want to replace the job vacancy with? Gonna hire cause they are a good fit or because your helping some politicians cause? Gonna grant asylum cause their lives are in danger from a government firing squad or because Biden/Harris will pat you on the back? \n\nThere is reason to illegally enter this country and it is disrespectful, disgraceful, dishonorable, dishonest and disheartening to the ones who are here legally by going through the process like everyone else paying time and money. Even Christopher Columbus paid to be here, no one handed him a free ticket to ‘paradise.’ The Mayflower patrons weren’t met with resistance by the indigenous community, they were harmonious. If there was a border in Maryland at Plymouth Rock, I am sure the Puritans would stop there first to get their passports stamped.
