I know we have our problems. The downside of Democracies are they are wasteful and inefficient. Governing political parties have fixed terms with one incoming party undoing everything the outgoing party set. Equal justice under the law means everything is up for debate in our courts which despite good intentions is still justice unevenly applied between the rich and poor. Like me, I already want to move back. Canada was overglamorized. I think I'm just gonna finish my post grad work permit and move back home. At least there, housing is still within my reach. Right now is probably the worst time to come here. With global recession and post-pandemic hardship, everyone is feeling the pinch. Small businesses are closing down as they could not repay back the relief loans given by the government during the pandemic. Trudeau’s policy of immigration through the educational stream and admitting so many refugees from Syria and Ukraine have caused massive rent increase - too many people chasing after lower real estate supply. Because people are feeling the pinch, crimes are up and homelessness has become a serious issue. But, here are the (long-term) advantages of living here, vs. The Philippines:\n- free healthcare - no matter how rich you are back home, wealth can be depleted if a major illness strikes;\n- free education for your kids up to highschool and opportunity for your kids to enter worldclass universities after highschool;\n- government programs that actually work - Worker rights are upheld, doleouts when you lose your job, 12-month mat/paternity leave, doleout/govt match when you save for yr kid’s university educ, tax rebates for whatever you save for retirement, retirement income even if you never held a job, infrastructures are maintained, transparency and stability of political system; \n- safer environment - yes, greater crimes lately, but still one of the safest places to live. I live in greater Toronto, and sometimes we forget to lock our door at night or leave a bicycle outside and nothing happens;\n- commitment to the environment - the country adheres to protecting the envt. You can drink water from the faucet. Strict laws on recycling and waste disposal. Greenbelt protection on forest and conservation park areas, even in the cities. Canada also has the world’s biggest water supply...in today’s global climate change, were decades away from water wars;\n- a beautiful country with friendly, humble and relaxed people who observe work-life balance

This is missing SOOOO much of the actual story of what is going on over here. There is a lot of corruption in our housing market fueled by faked incomes just for starters. That's not including the massive supply and demand crunch we are facing on multiple fronts from having too much people suddenly, to having not enough housing suddenly. For those curious, you can find some CBC marketplace videos that cover some of this from a couple years back. The banks have been caught f'ing around as well, what with pushing through mortgage requests that should never have been allowed to occur; and that's just what we know about. \n\nNo offense to anyone in this video, or anyone else like them. We know that a good large chunk of most of you are not at fault here with what's going on. But there are some people from all sorts who are all doing their own dirty little deeds, and they are culminating into the gigantic pile of BS that the rest of us now get to deal with. \n\nAnd make no mistake, what I am saying is not even close to the full extent of the BS going on. US Citizen here. My late Father was Dual Status... US Citizen & Canadian Subject. My family still has cousins in Ontario, Canada. At one time my Retirement Options included Canada as Permanent Residency would be easy. Residency is now more complicated & Costly... Plus my Canadian cousins that are roughly the same age as I am are moving to the Philippines where we have Filipino Cousins in Retirement. I'm planning to be Retired from the Civil Service & in the Philippines by November 2024.

I am a Mexican living in Mexico, I have visited Canada on several occasions and I think it is an excellent place to live. The part I don't understand about this report is: if people are leaving Canada, why is the cost of housing still high? In my opinion, the people who are now leaving Canada realized too late that they cannot afford the standard of living in a country like Canada. The same would have happened if they had emigrated to England, France, the United States or Germany. The phenomenon has more to do with the value of work than with Canada. In the last two decades the value of unskilled work has plummeted, no one can live in a moderately developed country with an unskilled job, to make matters worse, now white collar jobs have also begun to disappear. Society is simply transformed again and the effects of this transformation begin to be noticed first in those countries where life is more expensive.

Even earning 130k per year still left them a bit uncertain, having 2 kids, in the end of the month not so much is left, and when they looking on house prices they understand that they could afford one not even in foreseeable future

This story is misleading and the Title is completely false. Canada's Student population doubled in 3 years and Canada went from 7th highest Foreign Student Population per capita to 2nd, so the Canadian Student housing situation worsened quickly. So the Trudeau Government put a cap on Foreign Students and offered low interest loans to Universities to immediately expand Student housing. Canada has seen NO drop in citizen applications and still refuses far more applications then it approves. So with even Canada's low birth rate still combined with immigration Canada's population is the fastest growing per capita of Western Democracies at an annual population increase of over 1 million people a year. So the Headline about Citizen applications which had nothing to do with the story of Foreign Students.\nAlso I want to add they stated that the gentleman had set up a business to bring home students from Canada when in the interview he stated that Canada was only one of the Countries but stating it the true way is less dramatic and doesnt fit their Narrative. Also the story was clipped from India a Nation that has been ata diplomatic war with Canada for a year after their Government Murdered a Canadian Landed Citizen. So their Governement put out a warning for their Citizens going their amongst other revenge moves. So the story has so many outside bias to be sensible.

The liberals have been using immigrants for a while now to prop up the economy and buy votes, eventually the Ponzio scheme would start to fall apart and we are starting to see that now. I've always planned on staying a Canadian my whole life... but today... A fool runs my increasingly shameful country... no longer proud to be Canadian... we still have almost 2 more years of this left (getting worse and worse in a very fast way) and in all honesty... practically all the Liberal parties firmly held convictions disgust me in one way or another. No surprise there, \n\nCanada is NOT attractive to migrants anymore due to multiple reasons.\n\nSoon a 1 bedroom apartment will probably cost 5000$/month for rent in the Major Cities making it impossible to settle here for newcomers.\n\nThe healthcare system has serious problems due to a lack of Doctors and Nurses who left for better paying jobs in US or Europe.\n\nIf you need immediate Specialist care you will probably have to pay hundreds of dollars just to see someone in the Private sector because the Public Health System has huge waiting lists and is understaffed.\n\nYou won’t be able to get a Government Family Doctor because the remaining ones have thousands of patients already so they’re swamped.\n\nYou can wait even 10 years for a Family Doctor and still won’t get one.\n\nYou can’t be bumped up on waiting lists for Doctors or Specialists even if you are in a critical condition because you aren’t a Celebrity / Politician / Millionaire.\n\nOnly those with a lot of money, status, power get immediate medical attention in case of an emergency.\n\nMost of the traditional medical costs like and eye exam, treating an ingrown toe nail, Physiatrie treatment are NOT covered by the Provinces anymore so you will have to pay out of pocket hundreds of dollars again.\n\nSome Provinces are already copying the US healthcare system which is 100% Private and for profit so don’t be surprised if you you’re gonna have to pay even for an infusion.\n\nThe minimum wage is only 15$/hour in most provinces when in reality you need at least 40$/hour to survive the ridiculous cost of living.\n\nYour typical salary will go 45% to taxes and 45% to rent leaving almost nothing for food / bills / gas / insurance etc. \n\nYou will struggle to make ends meet and possibly starve a week or two every month just to say that you’re “Canadian” \n\nThat is the sad reality but Canada is in a deep hole right now.\n\nUK is in a similar situation too.

I hate to disagree to most comments on this Video. Canada is still one of the best countries to live, work and raise your family. As a pakistani immigrant myself, having lived in Dubai, Saudi, and UK, I still find Canada easily the best overall.\n\nWhen it comes to hardships, yes you must have a positive mindset to survive in Canada but ofcourse you pay the price of living your Canadian dream. \n\nIf you are a couple with a household income of 10K take home, you can still live an extremely good life in Canada. Canada is _one_ of the greatest countries in the world to live in, but like all other nations, it does have it's own issues. Nowhere is absolutely perfect. Everywhere has strengths and weaknesses. I still feel grateful and privileged to be born in this country.

You should tell us how many Indian immigrants actually went back to India . Not many . I have seen 20% interest rate here and you think 5% interest rate is high . Indian community is the richest immigrant community in North America . People move to United States and move back to Canada which is normal . 17.5% left Canada but 82.5% are still here , what does that tell you ? There is housing shortage and that will be solved in time . A lot of these problems are caused due to covid shutdown and excessive immigrants coming from India . We Indian may not like cold weather but we are very comfortable in inside house . So far this year I only had to shovel snow twice and not for months . There is no shortage of job opportunities but One need to be flexible of courier . Canada still tops in most standards and consistently in top 10 among all countries of the world .

I think Canada is still one of the best countries in the world. Some of the countries that have high rankings of happiness have free university, humane incarceration, much better health care,m and everyone has a family doctor, and many amenities to make life more productive and healthy. I’m fine paying more taxes for those societal benefits but many aren’t. Society is what we make it to be honest. Staying put and digging in and contributing to good in your community is a great way to improve city life. I think you are far too concerned with what things cost to do that unfortunately. Thailand is cheap as hell but I could never tolerate the low wages paid to vulnerable, hard workers, and the profound poverty, not to mention sex tourism. Trashing cities and departing isn’t helpful. Yeah, it's really sad to see this side of Canada, because many of my aunts live in there, and they still have to work in malls or shops in order to run their daily lives. Although my cousin has a successful government job but still one of my aunt never got any permanent citizenship or Canadian Passport.

I'm an immigrant and my immigrant friends and I were talking about exactly this just the other day. I'd like to add some context on why so few international students stay: they can't. Schools prey on this very fact. In international recruiting, these schools use the promise of thriving local industries and trot out graduates working locally as major draws to these expensive programs. Then once students are in Canada, many of these schools couldn't care less: they offer little or sometimes no housing support, no immigration advice (or in my case and many of my friends' cases: they give straight-up false immigration advice that can screw you over or even get you in trouble). There absolutely needs to be regulation and accountability for these predatory schools; I think a good starting point would be capping the number of visas they can apply for based on the number of housing units available (either on-campus or via local development subsidy and homestays). Tons of students come to Canada completely unprepared due to false promises made by these schools, and then get spit out into an egregiously inefficient and broken work visa system.\nMy immigrant friends and I are all highly skilled in our specific field. There are only a handful of people in the world (let alone in Canada) who can do what I do at the level I do it, so I would be incredibly difficult to replace if I left Canada. Despite that, and despite being Canadian-educated (Canadian resources invested in me that you'd want to keep in Canada), remaining in Canada has been a massive struggle for me and my friends. We individually spend hundreds and even thousands of dollars every year to apply for permits that have to be renewed annually, but take the government 6+ months to process. Because the government is so backed up, we have to apply for *extra* permits to bridge that gap (more money, and more work added to IRCC's already-long line of applications). I'm in limbo for the majority of the year where I can't switch employers, can't leave the country, etc. It's horrible. \nBut I have it better than most. Of the international students in my year, only I and one other student are still in Canada because the transition to work permits is so needlessly long and difficult. Even a graduate who does manage to get a work permit might have to sit unemployed for 6 months or more before that permit is active. How is a student supposed to survive without work for that long? In order for employers to even apply to sponsor a graduate, they often have to do a lengthy labor market impact assessment, and so these graduates are stuck in a holding pattern, and they're the lucky ones. Immigration is absolutely vital to Canada and I hate how quickly these stories turn to xenophobic rhetoric, but we have to make space in the conversation to take a look at how schools are exploiting students and policy loopholes, and why they're doing it, and address those problems. The current system isn't fair to anyone.

I feel this can be said about many countries, but as of 2024 it still decently remains as one of the top 10-15 range countries in the world to live.

And then, Canada is wrong here, Canada is wrong there: says who?\nI emigrated to an English speaking Country about thirty years ago, and that for one and only very simple reason: my country did not offer me any opportunities even remotely comparable with those I was kindly offered in the Country I emigrated to. To me, this is more than enough to prove that the Country I emigrated to was far superior to the country I was born in.\nOf course, they were expecting the bargain to work for both parties (if it didn't, there would have been NO opportunities for me at all), and rents were frightfully high, but still manageable, AND THEY SAW TO IT THAT IT WAS SO, AS IT WAS CONVENIENT FOR BOTH PARTIES, which you will allow me to call good reasoning.\nAnd yes, I lived modestly, but who cared: I was able to further my education and grow professionally. They could have offered me, say, a teaching position in one of their third-degree Institutions: they did not, and I think rightly so. Not a bit of hard feelings about that, they had already done a lot for me, and taught me something in the process. First of all, TO STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT THEIR WAYS, since factual evidence slapped to my face that their ways were far more effective than my country's ways.\nI went back to my country after a few years, were I was able to improve my situation thanks to the qualifications they helped me earn. They did not ask me to leave, but I felt I had to do that. I realized I lacked the qualities (energy, initiative, enthusiasm) that would enable me to contribute to and continue their effort in modelling their Society, the very Society that gave me so much. Better go back, lest I may contribute to spoil it, and do my best were I belong.\nThey never asked me to repay their kindness. So I don't think they did not do enough for me, quite the opposite. It was tough, but I shall be thankful as long as I live.

Great speaker, but never answered the question about refugees because no one wants them. Except Canada. Also the Palestinians never owned the land, and I get that Israel had and still is stealing the homes of Palestinians that lived on the land and displacing them with illegal resettlements which is disgusting but God gave the land to Abraham 3000 years ago. Israel predates Palestine.

I was one of the person who was eliminated by labour job because of student .some i know was fired working 20 years and replace by student payed minimum wage. Until now im still unemployed

I'd be interested in seeing the raw statistics of mass immigration vs job scarcity and value. Living in a rural town in one of Canada's poorest provinces, it feels like businesses are relying on immigrants to work for minimum wage, which is still $15 BELOW the living wage. Since they can hire people for less, they will do so. There is also the issue of these international students relying on and clearing-out food banks. They're sold the idea that they only need $10k a year to survive in Canada, and obviously they can't, so they rely on these systems (that were already struggling as more and more people face homelessness and extreme poverty) to get by.

Canada has outran the USA in the proliferation of the thought, that the State, not the individual is responsible for one’s well being. I think there’s still hope for the west, but things will have to descend much further into darkness before people change the behaviors causing the problems.

I am a Canadian but I understand there is no such a thing as a perfect country . Having said that Canada is still one of the best places in the world to live. I see some Canadians saying they are happy you are leaving. These Canadians do not represent their majority of people in Canada. There are racists everywhere in the world including Canada. Have a good journey and find peace regardless of the country you choose to live.

I was born in this city and i don't like what it became. Moved out many years ago but i have to return for for work twice a month so I'm still in the GTA. I can't stand it. My goal is to gtfo one day. The dream is a smaller town or smaller city.

Canada is still one of the safest places in the world. I won't leave. This phase will blow over. Nothing is permanent. Things change for the worse before getting better. I would take Canada any day compared to the US or some countries in Europe.
