I understand they’re trying to run to a better life. But I don’t really think they know what America is going through nowadays. They have a unrealistic reality of how the US is supposed to be. It’s not a safe haven we have thousands of homeless on the street who are born and raised here. They’re going to come here and be in a tent right next to those born and raised Americans.

On the gun issue, I'm not sure that american people really understand the second Amendment. With a 7B $ Armed forces budget and the fact that Indepedance war againts Britain is over for more than 200 years there is no need anymore for the 2nd Amendment. In Canada, we don't have any equivalent article in our Constitution and I'm very happy about it. Some people should meditate on the subject.

I am a born Canadian and never I would move in the US because I've seen a lot of Americans here in Canada and I don't like their behaviors. They behave disrespectfully like they don't care about your culture and your actual country, they act like they are the king of the world, owe everything and they literally just transfer their attitude in your country without trying to adapt, learn and understand the way we are. So to me it's all about their attitude. I also heard while I was traveling in UK that Amricans are the worst tourists for the exact same reasons. I know not all Americans are like that but sadly a good % are.

I'm an American, but I grew up living overseas in many different countries, when we came back to live in my dad's hometown in Ohio, I was very surprised by its pleasantness and absolutely disgusted by the proud small-mindedness and pervasive racism. I still go visit and the pleasantness is almost gone.

I don't know when the US changed from the shining city on the hill to current dumpster fire it currently is, but it is just absolutely disgusting these days. \n\nMany Americans cannot separate church and state, nor do they understand that belief is only real to them, not to others. \n\nThe other major problem is the lack of equality in the US. I was never interested in moving to the States but I think my reasons are different then most.\n\nStarting in my teens, I couldn’t understand why anyone would willingly live somewhere you couldn’t wander in the wilderness without worrying about things like poisonous snakes and poisonous bugs. I couldn’t understand what was so great about swimming in the sea if you have to worry about what part of the beach and how far out you go. How can swimming be fun? Lakes and rivers are much better. \n \nWhen I got older, I couldn’t understand how anyone could enjoy summer when the sun goes down so early in the evening. I left Vancouver, BC partially because the summer days are shorter then home and the winters are too dark. Even on an overcast night in winter up here, the light reflects off the snow and makes the night brighter. Do I like -30C or colder when it happens? No. I can’t walk the dogs because their feet might freeze but they’re idiots and will wrestle in the house if I don’t.\n\nNow that I’m almost 60, I note that all of my American cousins who had duel citizenship have moved back to Canada upon retirement where the conversation rate makes their pensions worth more and after 3 months they qualify for BC medical.\n\nThe guns, healthcare, right wing “Christians”, loss of human rights and potential for violence are why I don’t want my daughter to ever move there.

This hard to understand for people from the usa, but the usa is not interesting at all. Most Americans don't understand what seems ok to them is plain crazy for people from modern country. 40 years ago Québec (my part of Canada ) was more modern than usa right now on almost any social topic, from human rights, religious stuff in public instand of being private, better economy law, , egality, ect. The way nothing is rational, the way all the politic is done on blind ideology is just plain scary. Sad, but usa is NOT a modern country on a lot (almost all) topics.

I live just outside of Montreal, pretty near the border. One of my good friends used to live in Vermont, right near the border and we would visit each other several times a year. She moved to Tennessee, and I flew down to visit her a few years ago (haven't been down since COVID) while Trump was still president and I'm not even joking when I say that as soon as I left Nashville I was highly anxious 100% of my time there. And I'm white, I'm not a visible minority, I suppose if I kept my mouth shut nobody could tell I'm not from there, it really hit me how sad it is that I even felt that. All these patriotic gun toting Americans I feared would shoot me for whatever reason they could come up with. I understand that that's not ACTUALLY likely, I was glad I left my husband and children at home, and while I enjoyed my weekend there I couldn't WAIT to get back home. New England was easier to handle, but I'm not cut out for the openly racist, homophobic, anti women's rights, you name it kind of discussions. I was horrified that not only do people ACTUALLY think like this, but those who are being oppressed, or those who simply support those being oppressed are having to keep quiet for fear of being murdered because of this. Nashville was really cool, I loved it, but I truly feared for my safety outside of the city, despite being a straight white woman. I can't imagine what it's like for the minorities, it's so sad. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said that you're just numb to it, because being on the outside looking in, it's hard to believe what's actually going on, it looks as though the country is regressing,

I went to the Atlanta suburbs a few years ago for corporate training (I was working in Canada for a US based company). There were people from all around North America there, who did not know each other before meeting there. What shocked me the most, even more than the constant subtext racism between people, in the news, everywhere basically, more than the senseless political debates where people take for one side just because, no matter the truth and lies, the arguments or even the crimes comitted by one side or the other, is the fact that 2 americans, never having met before, were talking about their prefered gun makes and ammunition types literally 5 minutes after having met the first time. THAT is unhealthy! THAT is scary! I just went with the flow and accepted it, and I kept noticing it for the 2 weeks I was there. In Canada, we talk about the weather to break the ice with strangers. In the states, you talk about guns. That is what we call gun culture and that, more than anything else, is why I'll never live in the US.\nOh, and just to make it worse, when I tried to explain why we did not feel like we had to have guns on our person in Canada, not a single American I talked to could ever begin to understand. Not centering your life around the fact that you can or cannot have a gun is just impossible for Americans, it seems.

I'm a Canadian that has longed to live in Hawaii all my life. I still can't understand why every American doesn't live in Hawaii. Is it because it's so expensive? I don't know where you live Tyler but I don't think it's Hawaii so I wonder why you're not living in Hawaii?

Well, as a Canadian, I guess i'll pitch in.\nWould I move to the US? The short answer is no. But I will explain more in detail.\n\nFirst, I do not see any advantages to the US compared to Canada. Americams often tout their country as the beacon of freedom and the land of opportunities, but I don't feel that Canada is so different there. We're actually higher on the world freedom index, and its not like our economy was in shambles and everyone dirt poor... We pay more taxes, fine, but we also get more services in return, and that last part has the advantage to remove a big layer of worry. Like, for healthcare, I don't have to worry if i'm covered by insurance or not, or if the insurance carrier will drop me on some technicality. I'm a citizen. All the basic needs are covered; no questions asked (and the healthcare quality is not half bad. We just prioritize urgent cases over non-urgent; so if you go to the hospital for something non-urgent, you will wait, and more urgent cases will pass before you. Annoying when it happens, but I understand and agree with that in the end)\n\nSecond, I do see a lot of disadvantages. All the points raised in the video are valid, from the private-sector healthcare system, the gun control laws (or lack thereof), the social policies and legislation in some states; they don't agree with me.\n\nI think it comes down to some specific social and cultural ideas that are prevalent or at least present in a substantial manner in the american society. Bear in mind that I am generalizing here, not every american believes these points, but many do. I'm talking about ego, nationalism/patriotism, secularism etc.\nI feel that the US often has a really overinflated vision of itself. Like, the idea that America is the best. At everything. Wich is factually not true, but this idea also poisons the debate on many issues, and tends to limit social introspection that could lead to real advances.\n\nI've also noticed that the american basic school system is strongly patriotic. Everyone in the US is taught a lot about the US themselves in school, but not much about the rest of the world. Not great for open mindedness and introspection when you have little comparison points.\n\nAndlets not delve into the religious aspect. I've seen a poll somewhere where 48% of americans were AGAINST the separation of church and state. For me thats not only insane, its dangerous. It fits the individualistic mentality where people can more easily start thinking that their way is THE way. It creates a very polarized society much more prone to high volatility.\n\nSo, yeah, no, I wouldn't live in the US. I'd much rather stay in Canada where i don't have to worry if I get sick or hurt, if some agressive drunk idiot in a bar is armed, or if some fundamentalists from some religious congregation is gonna be able to try to politically force their point of view.

Seriously we have a hard time understanding the American view point when it comes to guns. No offence but with the number of school shootings per year in the US and the deep seeded need to be able to own a gun , it appears that your country values gun ownership over child safety . Which is just mind blowing. Don’t get me wrong we have school shooting too, And other types of violence in schools, nowhere near what is happening south of our border . But , from our perspective the numbers speak for themselves. Just look how many have happened so far in 2023. ✌️? * just Google “ School shootings 2023 by country” . Though, what people don't understand, is how American policy has made it impossible for some countries in South America to have a stable government or economy. Any time a regime has threatened US profits, usually by making policies that benefit their own people first, we have their leader assassinated, the party eliminated and replaced by dictators and despots friendly to corporate interests. They are fleeing the extreme poverty and violence in regions we intentionally destabilized. As a child of a first generation immigrant, this is horrible and WRONG. My dad and his family fled Nicaragua in the late 80's when the socialists took over. And it was a real war zone. The government stole their land, homes, and k!lled people they knew. On the way to the airport my dad (who was a small child at the time) saw dead bodies in the street. Thankfully they made it to the USA and were able to rebuild their lives and become proud American citizens. They did it LEGALLY. It makes me so mad when I see footage like this. They’re illegal. I understand the desire to pursue a better future for you and your family. You’ve got to go through the proper channels though. You shouldn’t be able to just walk into the country and then receive support, that most Americans don’t receive. Look at the situation with our veterans. Right now, Americans are having issue finding affordable housing. Everything’s gotten so expensive. This doesn’t help the situation.

Oh my goodness...Canada seems to have run out of red carpets...Canada has problems. It has racism. It has sexism, yet with only high school four of my sisters became bank management and executives...and we have a blue-collar mixed-race heritage. But despite that Canada has a tiny tiny economy compared to its immediate neighbour and still delivers an impressively comparable lifestyle...plus a health care system that struggles to find a way to be universal in our post-pandemic world...that actually saved my American-immigrant husband's life. If you can understand the sheer competitiveness of trying to get a job in this marketplace then you might understand that despite Canada's best efforts it's not the land of Oz. If other countries are better sorted and have your dream jobs waiting by all means have that good life where you can. If you want to work towards building a future in a relatively safe and free nation...and that will mean taking part in ironing out age old problems...maybe Canada is for you.

Majority of Hispanics don’t understand this is a major problem. If the population is growing in the US. Inflation will rise. Housing, food, gas etc. We need to deport as many illegals as we can because legal immigrants deserve the right in America legally. Also, problem with these illegal Hispanics is they don’t even attempt to learn or study English and always raise their country’s flag rather than the American flag. I’ve seen this too much. We also have a problem with Americans here. Mostly black Americans. They’re extremely lazy, having a lot of babies, use drugs, loot, lie and break in. They are over privileged and always play the victim. This kind of problem leads to our taxes going to then as well.

At least someone is happy to be in america. Feel like alot of people in our country today don’t understand how lucky they are even with all the issues we have of our own. Of course this large influx of people is gonna cripple some of the economy for a while but we should hope the Mexican and other South Americans who do end up staying here after all this are able to lead a productive and good life beside us Americans.
