I live in Los Angels and I did not vote for this. Canada has always helped us when we had natural disaster.

As a Canadian I can tell you it is a supremely miserable feeling to have a nation which we have such strong feeling for strike at us like this. It is equally miserable to know that our tariffs will also cause pain to Americans. We are sorry, and I know that is cliche, but we are. Have no doubt, if you know us at all, we will fight back passionately, vigorously and indefinitely. President Trump has done what no one should ever do: put our backs to the wall. We have no choice but to fight back. God help us all!

Canada was requested numerous times to help stop the flow of fentanyl which Mexican cartels trafficked that killed 200,000 Americans. Trudeau's reply is only 1% of fentanyl comes through Canada.. even though they don't properly secure the border and everyone knows the amount is significantly higher.\nTrudeau ran to Mexico to sweet talk THEM into mutual trade deals rather than assist the US stopping Mexican cartels.\n\nTrudeau should be arrested and tried by military tribunal for his participation in 200,000 deaths.

Apologies on behalf of the selfish half of this country that helped put him in power. God save those who foresaw the hurt he’d place upon us.

I am embarrassed to be a citizen of the United States now. It’s disgusting how we have allowed a completely unqualified and morally corrupt individual to become our President once again. I have never been so embarrassed to be an American. Its heart breaking that we allowed this to happen even with all the warning signs. My only criticism is that Trudeau should have said the tariffs imposed by Trump, rather than the US. Not all Americans support Trump and maybe they’ll need Canada’s help to throw out the garbage one day soon.

Even before now less than 1% of fentanyl came across the Canadian border. Canada has had a trade imbalance with us in our favor. Canada last year had already agreed to beef up border security by $1.3 billion. Canadian troops have fought alongside US troops in several wars. As recently as a few weeks ago Canadian firefighters were helping put out fires in the US. Dumbest tariffs doesn't begin to describe it.

Canada will be implementing 25% tariffs against $155 billion worth of American goods, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a press conference Tuesday. \n \nSpeaking from Ottawa, Trudeau said there was “absolutely no justification or need whatsoever” for the tariffs imposed by the US on Canada, which went into effect today. \n \nThe prime minister explained that $30 billion worth of US goods would see tariffs immediately, while the remaining $125 billion worth of goods would see tariffs in 21 days. \n \nTrudeau added that Canada will file claims at the World Trade Organization, but in the meantime, “our tariffs will remain in place until the US tariffs are withdrawn and not a moment sooner.” \n \nThe prime minister also again hit back against US assertions about Canada being unwilling to help in the fight against illegal fentanyl. \n \nHe said the legal pretext Trump presented for the justification of the tariffs —“that Canada is apparently unwilling to help in the fight against illegal fentanyl” — is “totally false.”

As a Canadian who has lived my whole life here, in my opinion there were two major factors that need to be highlighted that started this mess: fiscal policy and focus on fringe politics. First, Canada came out of the 2008 meltdown relatively unscathed due to following a markedly different strategic path than other major countries, namely tight banking regulations as well as 15 years of paying down the national debt. However, several years after 2008, sentiment shifted to adopting the same MMT-led fiscal policies as other nations: lower interest rates and deficit spending. Secondly, at least 10 years ago, there was a major political shift to start emphasizing fringe social issues (climate, race-based, gender, etc.) instead of standard issues such as the economy or military to name two, and it was strongly evident in academia and in the media. The result was little governmental, public or media attention being paid to core economic concerns such as the massive growing government and consumer debt levels, highly inflationary housing market, or decreasing productivity. When COVID hit, the government further doubled the existing federal debt and when they found that unsustainable, opened the doors to massive immigration levels to bring the Debt-per-Capita ratio down which while helping in that one metric, has further inflated the housing market all while forcing wages down. We now have unsustainable public debt levels, unaffordable housing, decreasing wages, decreasing productivity, and a troubling reactionary political swing towards extremist right-wing ideologies. Top that off with the US administration seeing Canada is on an economic precipice and threatening to take the country over, there couldn't be a more perfect storm.

Thing to note\n1) The great world reset was fabricated to hyper inflate life. This is not a canada only phenomenon\n\n2) in canada and the us hedge funds and corporate investors are buying houses on mass. Hyperinflating their prices. And the government of both countries allows even foriegn investors to do it (even if they pretend to put guardrails to slow or thwart this its so easy to circumvent for people with infinite resources)\n\n3) why does the govt allow this because it makes the multiple properties they own on mass also go up. So it's a case of the rich helping each other be richer\n\nYou are all just saying misinformation that was spoon fed to you to distract you from the truth

My godson's parents, who he loves and respects and helps financially, are undocumented immigrants here in the US for 30 yrs. He lives in a community of undocumented folks. He and his brother voted for Trump. His whole family understands the consequences of so many people being here illegally. They all understand that being here illegally is a way for our government and the elite to use and abuse people much more easily. When you have as large of a percentage of the population who aren't protected by their citizenship and the laws and who can't access the full benefits of citizenship and who are always scared of being caught and will take less pay, people can be used and abused more easily.
