Our country can't continue to sustain this problem anymore. I'm sorry that other countries are dealing with corruption, desperation and injustice but if we keep allowing people to break the law by entering illegally and attack citizens without consequences then our country will become just as corrupt and disorderly as there's. We should have laws and policies that are supposed to prevent this kind of thing. I understand many of them are willing to work to support themselves but that's not possible if they are not legal citizens. So my question is why do illegal immigrants feel that tax paying Americans should support them.

I was just forced by my husband to come here in 2010. I never plan to live abroad but I went for the sake of the kids and dont want regret. My husband is mentally ill even before we got married(family took advantage of me when they saw I was an independent widow that time). Upon arriving here, nothing was prepared,no beds no nothing just the social housing and he was already orienting me to get food from food bank and simply convinced me to follow here for the child benefits,free education and healthcare. Let me just mention, the family of my husband is claiming they were rich and prominent in the Philippines. Fast forward....14 years after, he didnt get a house for us....I just ran after him for child support....he didnt finish the divorce process that I ask him to do upon arrival....now, that its time for him to pay tution fee for college, he is mad! He is so desperate that he brainwashed one of his sons to blame me and make me feel like the whole thing is my fault! My son almost killed me last time bec his dad getting sympathy and ranting that he has no money. This is the biggest regret of my life......I believe if my sons are educated and grew up in the Philippines, they are more happy and was able to tap all their talents and intelligence. I am done here! And for people telling me that the money we earn here we dont get in the Philippines....sorry, my peace of mind and dignity has no price tag. I am not materialistic too. Respect to humanity is all we need!

Australia, same thing ,the average house out of reach unless you earn big$$$, population boost with lack of infrastructure and homes, rent sky-rocketing, even rentals are hard to get 1%vacancy in big cities. The reliance on tuition dollars to cover basic operational costs is an inevitable result of decades of government austerity policies that have systematically gutted the post-secondary and other public sectors. The disparity between domestic and international tuition costs followed, a disparity that has been gradually increasing as universities find themselves in increasingly desperate financial situations - with limited sources of revenue. If direct government payments were increased to pre-1990 levels (and I would be willing to bet that most Canadians would approve of their tax dollars supporting education and training programs for Canadians), it would allow universities and colleges to manage their finances without disproportionate reliance on tuition - in particular international tuition. Bottom line - resuming adequate and equitable funding for post-secondary education must be front of mind while discussing the implications of lack of housing for international students. The point about cuts to public funding is underplayed and not well-contextualized in this CBC analysis - which just barrels on to band-aid fixes (like capping numbers or building more housing). The funding model itself needs to be fixed. Let's change the model from provincial to a provincial/federal hybrid funding model. And while we're at it, let's revise the funding model for healthcare. Why not do a sequel segment on that.

Problem with Canada is colleges and universities are not funded like US. For Engineering and STEM, US government and private companies like Intel/Microsoft/Qualcomm and many more spends million on research projects, and although US does rely on international students to fund students its not desperate like Canada. Besides, US has many college towns, no housing crisis like Canada and has robust economy. I studied in US free of cost with monthly stipend, fully funded by one such research grant. \nStudents should also realize sooner or later, especially in tech, that countries like Canada, NZ, Australia and UK are no. match for the United States. But then Indian students know in US they would never get green card. Canada/Australia/NZ were built like colonies, they don't have infrastructure- cities, roads, houses, airports, hospitals or even good colleges for such heavy immigration. They can take only limited immigrants in small busts.

I’m American. I don’t know what your equivalent of our Democrats are up there. I was a Democrat up until about 5 years. You people have to vote your equivalent of our Democrats out.
