One of the problem is that the doctors and other medical professionals use the low costs educational systems in Canada to get an education and then promptly leave for the US. Taxes are high in Canada. But try paying 20,000 to 25,000 to buy health insurance for a family of three. And you go to hospital for a week and end up with $125,000. Bill. When you consider the cost of education and medical. In the US where you paying high health insurance, you wait 8 hours in ER. I think most immigrants are too disgruntled. Many of them.move to Us and regret it. Sometimes, we want to come into Canada and look to get rather than contribute. Where in the US are seniors getting old age pension. The older people do leave but why would you count them as departures.

Never forget your home. Build at least a one bedroom in your own land back home, so you can return in your old age, if you live to your 70s, 80s or 90s. Look at the number of homeless people abroad, who are old. Don't forget your family back home. All these people talking are young but work very hard now and buy land in your hometown and build a place for yourself, and if possible a place to rent out so you can get income in future. You will never own anything in these oyibo lands. You will always pay very high taxes, even when you are not working or retired, and the house will go into foreclosure. Think my African brothers and sisters. I know things are bad back home, but don't get old and try to live here. A nursing home is like a prison. We are not used to that kind of restricted lifestyle.

There are lots of things to do if you are interested in being active. Canada is a very beautiful country and there are lots of places to visit and enjoy. \nYou need to educate yourself about what people are paid in the US and Canada. The minimum wage is a lot higher in Canada. I suggest that you leave Canada and then you will appreciate what a wonderful country we live in. Go to Trinidad for example and buy groceries ...pay over a thousand dollars a week for food, then tell me that food is too expensive in Canada. (25.00 for a box of cereal)!Go to a hospital there and you will wait for a whole day just to be seen. Yes, we have a shortage of medical doctors and nurses here, but they are trying to fix that. Sure we pay taxes, but if you or someone in your family needs a heart transplant, a knee replacement or whatever, you will get it FREE in the hospital, and while you are in the hospital, your bed will have sheets and pillow cases. Drive your car on the roads in Trinidad and the potholes will ruin your tires, not to mention the frame of the car. Your taxes also maintains parks, roads and bridges for the safety and enjoyment of everyone. The government has no control over the weather, so complaining that it is too cold or rainy is up to mother nature. During the lockdown I am sure you received money from the government to help you, everyone did. Do you think other countries paid their people money to help them get through this crisis?? I will take snow, cold and all the rest before desert heat. You can get severe depression from constant heat, sunshine. Anxiety and depression are a result from super high temps( Dog days of summer,) Try 9-10 MONTHS a year over 95. I have tempt 134-137 19 times on my property in 12 years. I have 87 trees planted and a misting system. Very hard for pets, and even farm animals. Known fact severe heat much more dangerous for people than cold. When it rains here, you get lightning strikes( massive fires), massive winds. Very few days you can use an umbrella and walk in the rain. I can go on. This is my true story of a horrific experience that happened to me on renting apartments in Montreal, i had to look for a new apartment to rent due to having to leave my apartment i was at due to fire damages that was caused by another tentant in apartment complex,anyhow i soon there after found a new apartment,this new apartment was renting for $1100.00 it had just been renovated and really nice and clean,however my horrific experience was just about to get much worse,just at the time the covid19 outbreak came around i was settling into my new apartment and really happy i had found a new place,so i thought...i soon began feeling very sick in this apartment and i kept trying to figure out why i was feeling this way,well to cut my true story short,i found out after 5 months and becoming really sick that there were drug dealers who had set up a meth lab in an apartment agent to my mine and the fumes from cooking there meth drug had been seeping into my apartment getting me very sick, still today i have lingering horriffic symptoms do to this meth poisoning, i have seen doctors and explained to them about my bad experience,i have persistance symptoms of lung problems, sinuses and bad headackes which start in this place,i found out the chemical these drug dealers were using to cook this meth was called Ether which is a mix of sulfuric acid and alcohol along with other very toxic dangerous chemicals,however the Ether chemical mix has a very sweet smell not a bad smell which is very deceiving to the sense of smell leaving you thinking how wounderful the air smells around,if you`ve rented you know there are all kinds of smells around,however it was to late by then ,how i found out it was a meth lab is a long story,i had been poisoned really bad but just as bad as getting sick is that when there is meth contamination that seeps into apartments,everything becomes contaminated,i mean everything,from cloths to furniture,tv bed,the smallest objects everything,i couldn`t take anything with me due to meth residue contamination,meth lab spores are really bad,they will linger in everything for years continue making one sick and very hard to wash or get rid of,i had to dispose of everything i had,thousands of dollars lost,all my belongings,it was horrible so horrible,the land lord had no idea this was going on in his building only later to know,also from what i have found out is that these dangerous meth lab apartments are common,i rent from a friend now and will never again rent from others,i still am sick with long lasting bad symptoms fearing for my health ,so i say Renter beware.

Canada is a land with great resources, great opportunity and potential, but for a place with so much supposedly smart people they do alot of dumb things. Been here 7 years now and I have seen so many issues that have obvious solutions but because of some weird culture or heritage or whatever they just keep doing the same thing until it hurts them. The real estate market is an absolute MESS and everybody knows. Money laundering, realtors colluding to set prices, blind auctions etc you name it. But they are just gonna keep doing the same thing until the country is in a major recession. Then everybody is going to be crying for bailouts. The health system is a MESS. Trying to find a doctor is like finding a needle in a haystack. They have them driving taxis instead, claiming that their qualifications arent as good. Yet they dont have enough doctors or nurses to support anything. Coworkers whose spouses work in those industries let me know they have to be working ridiculous shifts because there are not enough people. The taxes are ridiculous. I work in I.T. and taxes are like roughly half my salary. Many coworkers have told me all the illegal stuff they do to get around the taxes. Which I don't do because I wasn't raised like that. But people get taxed so much everyone is doing some thing to try to bypass it. And if you dont know the tricks or dont want to do them, you just get screwed. People don't talk about real issues here. There is alot of fake positivity and optimism because they dont want people to get sad and suicidal from the really long and harsh winter. I used to wonder why there were so many train delays until some one explained to me that many people commit suicides in winter by stepping in front of the trains. The only thing propping up this country is the constant influx of immigrant slave labour through the college system, (Like a ponzi scheme). But the immigrants are going to stop coming here if they cant even afford to live at all. Even the regular citizens cant afford it. So what will the country do after that, since there is an elderly population and not enough people to support the industries? Right now most of the immigrants come here and save up there money to go somewhere else or back home after they realize what a shitshow it is. I even have coworkers born and raised in Canada who are telling me they want to leave. Canada needs to stop patting itself on the back for doing stupid apologies and stuff like that, and actually do economically sound things to stop digging themselves into this hole. Great potential for this country but I don't know if it will ever be realized.

I moved to Canada about 17 years ago and yes it is an absolute pain to jump through all the hoops they want you to go through. I was only here a few days and I came from Ireland as a brick and stone mason they recruited me from Ireland and wanted me to come out. Within three days on the job I learned I would be getting less wages than the other bricklayers. I packed up my tools and walked off the job I notified the employer and the union by emails and told him I’d be flying back home in a few days. Well the union and the employers came running straight away to get me to stay. Trying to explain that after a couple of months I’d be on the same money as the rest of the guys. This is where I explain to them that taking home C$1100 was already a pay cut a massive pay cut as are used to take home 2500 to 2200 Euros living in Ireland. I moved to Canada for a change of lifestyle but that doesn’t mean I was going to be taken advantage of. And that’s when they said they would pay me the same as everybody else. Sometimes you just have to stand up for yourself and be willing to follow through. They even reimbursed me for the airline ticket I bought to go back. Some skill sets they really need in this country in addition Canadians population growth is absolutely dependent upon immigration as the family sizes and birth rates are critically to lol to sustained a country. As I’ve said I’ve been living here 17 years now and I am a Canadian citizen I guess that makes me an Irish Canadian now.

Canada is what you make of it. You can arrive rich and end up poor and you can arrive poor and end up rich. In between that, you can have a great life that balances your needs. I’ve seen immigrants succeed simply because they see the opportunity in front of them . They worked hard in their own counties to stay just above the poverty line ,but when they apply that same effort here it pays off ten times greater. I feel that compared to a lot of immigrants, natural born Canadians come across as spoiled and a little lazy…we are. We haven’t had to struggle the same way someone from a poorer country might have. I’ve talked to people who’ve worked ten to twelve hours a day just to stay afloat. If you did that here you could make plenty of money to live and have some left over. As far as owning a house goes,yes it’s expensive . I feel that homeownership in any country is relatively expensive. Here is a tip; use that soaring home prices to your advantage. Houses are expensive but you can make a lot of money buying and selling. I recommend putting together a buyers group and share the house for a few years, then sell at a profit, buy a bigger house or two smaller houses.try to buy the worst house in the best neighbourhood and fix it up slowly . That house could double in value in five or six years in the Toronto market. This is nothing new of course ,the people from India and China seem to do this a lot here ,it drives up prices and profits. On the downside to this ,you are now part of the problem. As the housing prices are driven up the non wealthy can no longer afford to own a house . They are at the mercy of high rents with no rewards of ownership. They are caught in a cycle of hard work and (relative)poverty. This could also be you if you can’t keep up the house payments and are forced to rent.\nHow well you speak English is important but your native language is also useful here because Canada is half immigrants . As a Canadian that speaks only english (Irish descent)I have to say to all newcomers that I’m very impressed that you have learned a new language and that you may even speak more than two! Don’t be embarrassed about your abilities . I find that in my experience , Canadians do not look down on people just because they don’t know English. In fact ,I’ve known people that have lived here for decades and still know very little English. They are comfortable in their communities and they function just fine. Learn as much English as suits your needs and be proud of any gains you make.\nOutside of Toronto are other cities that you might consider when looking at southern Ontario.From my experience,most are generally the same, just not as big . There are large immigrant communities in London Ontario, Hamilton and just outside of Toronto where housing is just a little bit less expensive but the commute to work is probably longer. This is just my opinion but in the small towns there are less people of colour , (which is what people of no colour call everyone else . I wonder if I’m called a person of no colour in some other culture ? LoL ). That might make it harder for you to feel integrated ,if that’s what you want. I’m not saying that people from other cultures can’t make it in a small town , I’m just saying that it’s definitely not Toronto . Here, people of any nationality can feel like they have a place where they can belong . It seems that no matter where you are from ,there is a community already here that’s set up restaurants and stores and clothing shops and newcomer support systems. And if your from Portugal or China or India or Africa or the Middle East, there are large groups of your kin here that have established roots for generations and you probably know this already.\nToronto means meeting place and that becomes evident quickly. I was born here and it’s one of the things I love the most about my city. I’m not going to say that there isn’t systemic racism here ,the people of no colour still kind of keep the top position , but as we become a minority in a decade or so ,I hope that will shift to a broader spectrum. It’s certainly happening already. One good thing is that the police department tries to hire people of colour so that racialism may play a smaller role. We’re getting used to seeing our politicians more and more reflect their constituents.\nI have to talk about the weather. Because I’m from here I’m used to the extremes of minus thirty and plus thirty . Eventually you get used to it (somewhat). Dressing in the right clothes is important. Summer is easy , but winter is different. It’s trying to kill you. Spend the most that you can afford on winter cloths . If you can afford a quality parka you should get one. The hood can be drawn around the face and stay out of the wind.\nIf not ,think of layers with a outer layer that blocks the wind. We have things called long Johns that are basically full length thick cotton or nylon pants that go on under your pants and a pair of extra thick socks. Buy your boots to fit your thick socks. Try to get the best boots you can afford ,it’s something that you might spend a little extra for but never regret.\nAll in all we are a fairly organized and peaceful society. Most people are friendly and will give you a chance . We have a good social safety net here and you don’t have to be homeless or starving if you don’t want to. There are people and organizations set up to help ,that truly try to get people back on their feet. It’s a good investment that pays off in ways that matter for the quality of life in a big city. I’m not putting my American neighbours down when I say they do things differently. They have their ways ,we have ours. This is just something that we do because we’re trying to learn how to help those that society has discarded or can’t find their place. Sure we have one or two areas where the homeless have pitched tents and we have some resources for them if they want. Unfortunately The mayor recently forced a small camp to move from a very visible place to more scattered locations. There were social workers involved as well as protesters trying to protect them. I didn’t like that happening and I want to see even more resources dedicated to them ,but on the other hand ,we are trying to avoid something like what happens on the streets when it’s just ignored. When I see YouTube videos of the streets of Philadelphia I’m extremely saddened. I thank the lucky stars that I was born in Toronto Canada.\nFor all it’s pollution and expense and crowds ,I think it’s a great place to do almost anything your heart desires . For every ugly building there is a beautiful park ,for every honked horn there is a birds call , for every cold and dark day there is beautiful sunny one around the corner.

You’ve been in an English speaking country for awhile. So why do you need to communicate via Spanish? You should’ve learned the language by now. If I saw anybody just browsing or wandering around for almost half an hour I would totally ask to see if I could help them. Better to try than not help at all. Why get paid to do nothing? I remember when my family immigrated here over 15+ years ago and my brother was only 1 years old. 2 weeks after coming here he slipped on the floor and cut open his forehead on the hinges of our door and he was bleeding everywhere (he later had to get 6 stitches to fix it), my father was out working and we didn't know how to contact the police or hospital because we didn't have a home phone yet. We used our neighbors and the ambulance came and I strictly remember that because we didn't have our health cards yet they wouldn't start work even though my father said he will pay when he gets there. I remember my mother and I feeling helpless while my 1 year old brother was bleeding out (the hospital staff tried to stop the bleeding with cotton ball and bandage) and I distinctly remember that they did not start helping my brother even WHILE my father was paying but only started work after the bill was completed. Even though my family felt helpless at that time and we felt it was unfair, we never blamed Canada because it was their policy and they have every right to follow protocols. So it makes me angry to see people who walked into our country illegally getting far better treatment than my family ever got even though it might not be anything as life threatening as ours was. It makes me angry that our hard earned tax dollars are used to help people who have no motivation to help the country that gave them asylum during war.. It's actually the opposite as a lot of these families call their free housing "disgusting" and compare it to "living like a slave". I'm angry because little girls at my brothers own school are getting shoved and assaulted by refugee boys as young as 6-7 and are let off with a simple "don't do that again" and a meeting with the parents. I used to live in Brampton and this is the city where I first landed. No hatred for the city but people have ruined it. I'm a brown guy myself so I can't be racist against my own people and tbh, some of the best people I know in Canada are Sikhs but even they accept the fact that there is a large number of bad apples in their community.
