Why does everyone think prices will go up because of tariffs? Don't you know that America is the largest economy in the world, and this is the market everyone wants to participate in? it's a great thing that Trump realizes this, Thank you Donald J. Trump!

We the consumers will pay that tariff. I'm still waiting for the grocery prices to go down on day 1. How does it work for you?

So, trump hits american companies buying stuff from columbia with a tariff. Columbia does not pay the tariff and it is not going to affect anyone but the american consumer who the american companies, who paid the hidden tax he just imposes on us, the consumer, won't actually pay in the long run because that tariff just becomes part of their cost of goods that they will add to their sales prices.

This is too funny ?. Just keep issuing even more tariffs is only going to come back to bite us in the butt to us consumers. We get a lot of imported goods from other countries, the costs for us to purchase everyday things you enjoy is going to go up as well. I don’t understand how people don’t understand that.

It’s funny how he shift from the issue of how tariffs affect people in the US to the subject of migrant deportations. Yeahhhh illegal migrants are the main reason why we have inflations and higher costs of living. The consumer gets the short end of the stick. When did the readership of cnn get so frikking stupid. The US is the biggest consumer country in the world. Tariffs will only hurt Americans, all of your costs will go up. You pay tariffs, we don’t. For Columbia, your coffee, tropical fruit like bananas, flowers are going up. For Canada, your gas prices, housing costs. For these slow people, let me explain how this works: tariffs work as a tax on poor people. First time in the White House, Trump put a 25% tariff on China goods. Dollar Tree, which imports from china usually to sell everything for a dollar had to pay 25 cents on a dollar in taxes to collect the goods from the ports. So it passed that tax to the prices. So went from everything $1 to everything $1.25. a 25% percent inflation. Then China stopped buying soybeans from USA. Farmers went broke and Trump have to give them 29 billion in handouts so they won’t go broke. Genius?

This is so stupid, if trump’s solution to international affairs is to imposed tariffs on the countries who don’t bend to his will, most countries will be smart and form an alliance to just cut the u.s. out and spread the wealth within that alliance. Trump is going to lose all of our trade partners, and bring us to the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.

So if it carries on like this, Donald Chaos is going to be applying trade tariffs against many of his neighbors for not taking back their migrants that the US needs to keep their domestic economy afloat? So it'll be costing the US at least an equivalent cost increase to continue buying goods from Columbia (and other countries as yet unknown to add to the list) until the US has no sources left to switch to that are un-tariffed and more economic.\nThese countries will just sell their goods elsewhere if the US doesn't buy them, so the American consumer loses out and pays to finance this fiasco in the making = US price inflation. \nSo falling out with your neighbors is how to make America great again is it?\nWhat sort of successful businessman works like this and succeeds? Tariffs as punishment - what could go wrong ?

So, tRump way on governing is to threaten everyone that doesn't agree with him isn't that the approach of a dictator. But the tariffs are going to HURT US the American consumers not the other countries.

Trump is going to impoverish the USA with all these tariffs. The US citizen just won't want to pay the prices that are now being asked for imported goods that cannot be purchased from local sources. (And the price of locally sourced goods will also shoot up because of higher demand). Well done Trump, you are only punishing your own citizens with tariffs and they will hate you for it.

How are you going to tariff something that doesn’t come into the country through legal means? Nobody wants their nose candy taxed.

Tariffs are a two way street, and Americans will suffer higher prices on things like coffee that we import from Colombia. Trump being a bully is going to be very costly.

for all of you in the comments trying to bash Trump talking about how this was a bad move and going to drive up prices, make enemies, etc. how do you feel now that the Colombian president has folded and is sending his presidential plane to pick them up? The threat of tariffs worked didn't it? Maybe it's time you admit to yourself you've been lied to and Trump knows what he's doing and has our country's best interest at heart.

All this means is that USA consumers pay more for whatever Colombia exports and what consumers will need ( supermarket food produce for example) ?? It does not help US farmers who cannot deliver to super markets their field produce because Trump is deporting workers who go into the fields whom primarily collect it !!!\nTrump is basically taxing the US consumers and pushing prices up !! The US importer pays the tariffs (US customs tax at port of entry) whom then passes it onto the consumer !!\nThe consumer can of course not purchase the product which would hurt Colombia exports; the importers would have to hurriedly find another source whom would probably also increase their price because of demand.\nTrump is a loser and always will be; his businesses are mostly failures; even casinos !!

Just so everyone knows. Colombia doesn't pay the tariff. We do. Look into it. Just force Colombia to take them since they are their citizen. We don't need to have coffee go up another 25%!

All the energy that is going to deporting people. Hopefully someone will do the cost-benefit. Seems like a major waste of time. Imagine if the Border Bill had been passed in 2024 and by now we could have had this all under organized control without all of this spending so much money, time and effort in rounding people up and deporting them. Add to all of that the cost of tariffs that Trump is putting on Columbia and I expect others in the coming weeks and months. What a waste. Trump also not getting this whole thing organized which is the major direction we have to go in the final analysis.
