Fearing that your child will be shot in school in the US is not baseless. Being shot at school is now the number one cause of death for American children. That simply is not an issue here and a primary reason most would not move there.

This is not about race or immigration. This is a result of corporate greed and poor hungry people that want a chance at life. In the US there’s a housing crisis, landlords bankrupting hard working people, grocery stores raising prices, gas prices sky rocketing, all for what? MONEY, corporate greed, no regulations on basic necessities that everyone needs to live. All those people recently stealing in LA, it’s just begun… In school I was taught about the Great Depression.. THIS, right now is the United States greatest economic crisis. We are living in it right now… I hope everyone can find safety and security. My husband and I moved to Iowa for a better shot, we’re Americans and have struggle our who lives as working class citizens.

Newtons, Connecticut -Sandy Hook and others … \nPLUS - people like Alex Jones fed the right wing that Sandy Hook massacre never happened … thank God he lost the court case from the parents of children who died at Sandy Hook. THAT was disgusting - people actually believed & believe that … THAT’s another reason to not want to live there .. \nIt hurts me deeply that Black Americans have fought SO long & hard to be recognized, the marched in Selma, they came so far, as jade women who want reproductive rights. It’s one thing to not agree with abortion, but to go so far as tell a young girl who’s been raped that she has to bring a baby to term & deliver it ? we try to avoid going to the US at anytime - dont care to take a chance on either being ill in the US or being shot at a movie or mall - sick people that dont seem to care about their public Wise up guys ! Health insurance is a right not a priviledge - If everyone paid into it the cost would be very low and top notch health care would be for everyone not just the wealthy

I am a Canadian and lived in the US from 1980-1992. I was a teenager and I enjoyed all the places I lived there. Mass shootings were not yet common though we did have a disgruntled employee with a gun on campus during my time in college. No one was actually shot.(This was in a very small town.) I did not get sick in the US. I have lived in Canada since then and enjoy it here too. I enjoy not having poisonous animals in the area where I live. I don't like the winters, and every winter I wish we could re-draw the border and make it go north and south! I have used the medical system up here and have been very thankful for it. The past couple of years with covid I have been especially glad to be in Canada because I preferred our response to the situation over that of the US. Most of the people in my workplace were not happy about it though and I believe 2 or 3 families actually moved to the US once the border re-opened. They like the feeling of having less governmental control in the US.

I have travelled to the US often for work for close to 25 years, visiting client sites. While I live in Canada, I had witnessed so many experiences and differences that it became impossible to consider a move there. There are obvious tax advantages (most states, though not all, combined with fed taxes have a lower tax rate, as well as write off benefits of owning a house). Racism is a problem here too, towards black people (among others) and including violence and systemic racism towards our indigenous population (e.g. police and healthcare), but the level of systemic and societal racism in the US towards black people is difficult to comprehend.\n\nIn my work experience in the US over the years, my team was in Utah at the time of a mass shooting in the mall that we'd typically go for dinner. An employee at the company shot and killed his wife in the church parking lot. I've been at a conference in Nashville that had to be locked down because there was a shooting in the mall next door (to the Grand Ole Opry), which was across the highway from the restaurant were there was the shooting where a black man took down the shooter earlier that year. As an employer our company couldn't believe the costs the company had to pay. California was ridiculously high, but so even was Texas.\n\nWith Obamacare the US is making huge strides in healthcare. It's not just about the health insurance coverage, but the fact that the legislation is forcing insurance and healthcare providers to standardize their systems, and make the data flow much better. This will allow for more innovation, faster handling of transactions, and transparency of costs (an example is people not knowing their cost until AFTER going through the procedure). I believe the US will outstrip Canada (which is only in the middle of the pack of developed countries) in service for cost in about 10 years.

Children getting shot being something that actually happens is fuel enough for Canadians to not go to the States. I spent many years there when I was younger. Loved my experience, loved the friendly people. Then Trump came along and all he'll broke loose. You couldn't pay me to live there now. Very sad.

My teenage daughter gets pregnant and I wouldn’t be bankrupt. \nIn Canada, there was a time when the federal government’s official opposition party had, as its platform the separation of one of our provinces out of the Canadian nation. No your education system is not good. You have a few good universities but your k through 12 is rated as one of the worst of the 1st world countries on the world wide education scale. Compared to Canadians you do seem batshit crazy. You let your kids get shot in schools. It makes no sense that you take away women's rights to save children but let them get shot in schools. So one right is more important than another!!! You let citizens die of rather simple diseases because of lack of health care. Not that there are not racist people or religious zealots but nothing compared to the US and it is shut down pretty quickly here. Many more of us are intolerant of that ignorance than US citizens.

In other Country, people rushing their borders would be shot. United States failures to enforce legal immigration laws and now here we are, the world has decided we owe it to them to live here. God help us, hungry people do desperate things. Even worse, these women and children are high risk for the Cartel’s capturing and enslaving them. I firmly believe Biden wants this. I'm Canadian and worked in Dertoit for almost 10 years, I crossed the border daily working for GM. I've also done work in Louisiana, Indiana and all around Michigan. \nAmerica has some of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. It's a beautiful country and has a ton to offer anyone with an ounce of drive. The variety you have in your economy is amazing, we don't have a lot of choice when we buy stuff, you guys have so much more to choose from, take restaurants for example, I've never seen so many chain restaurants in one place, we have a handful of them. \nFrom what I've seen, there's also a lot of poverty, crime and violence, but that's literally everywhere right now, even here in Canada, we don't prosecute violent crime anymore. The gun issue is probably the biggest problem...I always felt extremely vulnerable out in public, especially driving, because I assumed everyone had a gun on them, I seen so many random guns on people, it just blew my mind. I always had to keep in mind when I was driving not to road-rage...That's how you get shot. The health care industry in America is nothing but a business model designed to bankrupt people. Our system isn't great at all...nothing to boast about. If you have to visit the ER at any hospital, you'd better bring food and water, you'll be there at least 8 hours before you're even seen by a doctor. Our health care is free yes, but we're taxed to death here because of it. I do indeed wish we had a 2-teir health care system, I want the option to pay to get seen soonest. America and Canada have free(ish) speech. We're both being ruled by leftist loonies, but that's all changing in our next respective election cycles. Biden and Trudeau will be shown the door and we can hopefully get back to healthy debate and more conversation in society...Instead of automatically dismissing each other, vitriolic badgering one another and hating each other. We had unity for a brief time, we all saw it, after 9/11 happened. We put our petty crap aside and saw each other as brothers and sisters. That didn't last very long and we've been in a constant state of crisis ever since. The media has driven a huge nail right through society, and takes a blow at every single issue we face, making it Left vs Right...\nIt's unfortunate to say, but it's going to take something truly devastating, possibly on a biblical scale, for us to come together again.

I think it’s more of the possibility of getting shot by either the police or the public scares me the most (yes I don’t trust the USA police). Also the USA police seem to be way more aggressive than the Canadian police (choking people to death, and more violent arrests than in Canada). I wouldn’t never move to the USA just because of the police brutality and shootings. Also when I was in the USA for a trip I still was nervous if it was safe half the time.

I would 100% go to the us for vacation even for a whole month, but it’s a big NO to move over the border. \n\nReasons why: \n\n1. Guns at legal, and to buy at Walmart (like what the heck you can buy a gun at Walmart?). You can get shot for ringing the wrong doorbell or for parking at the wrong house.?\n\n2. The criminality is crazy (I’ve watched a lot of true crime over the 6-7 years and one of the conclusions I’ve made is that it’s mostly in the US. And the number of murders is insane.)\n\n3. Health care fees… do I need to say more?\n\n4. Racism (I know it’s everywhere, but it’s crazier in the US, nobody can tell me otherwise).\n\n5. Women rights. (I think this should’ve been already worked out for a long time now)\n\n6. The home of 99% of Karens (US Karens are a harmful specie that ceases to increase. I needed to add this one)

The US might offer more money for the same job but you left the higher costs out. Canada is safer, you have better chances of not getting shot in the street or at a routine traffic stop, you can raise children that have a higher rate of surviving to finish highschool, finish college with less debt and less pounds and you can retire with decent healthcare. All these are advantages that eat up at the US pay bonus and some can't be bought at all.

Also, count me as a no vote on moving south. Every time I've visited, I've found that the urban decay made me sad and a little bit scared.

Children getting shot is not a “touchy subject.” It’s an insane problem. And yes, there are children shot daily! Dude, there is no where on the planet where there are children and humans shot on anywhere CLOSE to the scale that it happens in the US.\n\nAnyway, move to the States? Not on your life!
