Canadian here. Wake up Canadians. Many people are praising Trudeau for this speech. Don't. He is out as Liberal leader within the week. He doesn't have to follow through on anything he said. Plus, he just stated that he's smart enough to suggest that Trump just put a 25% tax on Canadian goods for Americans but he also thinks that you are dumb enough not to realize that he just put a 25% tax on Canadians for American goods. Trudeau basically created the situation for these tariffs (open border to let anyone come here). He loves this as he gets to take the apparent moral high ground for the first time in his life and wants this speech to be the way he is remembered rather than years of failing Canada. Forget about the last 9 years and vote Liberal if you are a fool.

Great speech, at last a Leader standing up to trump and his cronies. Canada needs you so a shame you are not continuing. As a born Brit but now an Aussie my husband and I applaud you. The Democratic world needs to stand up to trump and musk. Canadians are tough and just know that many of us are with you in spirit and wherever we live are not buying US products either. Go Canada ?? and the Canadians ?

Canada has known for decades that we have put too many eggs in one basket - selling our resources primarily to the USA. We've had tariffs before and worked with them. Yet we still keep selling to the USA. This time is different. In conjunction with the tariffs, we have an American administration that is flat out insulting Canada. Saying we wouldn't exist economically if it wasn't for the USA. It's at a time when the USA won't promise not to use military force to annex land (Greenland) from a decades old ally. A time when clearly Putin is calling in his chips for whatever he has over Donald Trump. Canadians have had enough. We are directing our governments, provincial and federal, to finally, finally break from the north-south trade links. We need to establish stronger east-west trade links. The resources we have are wanted by many countries if the USA does not want them. It does mean much work within Canada. We need to get our AB-BC pipeline finished as well as the new sea terminal so we can ship our crude oil and natural gas to Japan and if need be, to China. We finally need to get out pipeline to the Atlantic coast finished so we can supply the UK and EU with our products. We need to double our rail capacity for shipping potash, uranium, rare minerals to Asia or Europe. Just as Trump hopes for a golden age of American companies coming home and building new plants in the USA, this will be a golden decade for Canada to create transportation corridors to get our resources to other buyers. America will have to look elsewhere for his raw materials. And we all know what that is - RUSSIA. They've already offered their rare minerals and crude oil. This is all clearly a well thought out scenario from the people working behind Trump to dismiss America's allies and trading partners - have us turn against the USA - as the excuse to open the door to Russian imports into the USA.

Many people do not understand how tariffs impact the importation of goods and services. Canada lacks the infrastructure to produce the minerals required for electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing. Additionally, Canada does not possess the same international influence as the United States, particularly in military matters. As a result, Canadians may face more significant challenges, as their economy relies more on U.S. trade than the United States' reliance on Canada. Overall, Canada has a less developed economy and limited global influence.

We will take your products, join the EU and have free access to our markets at a discount. Welcome Canada, thank you for saving us in WW2, welcome to the EU, we are alike in mentallity, manners, worldviews and strategic interests. Europe loves Canada, please send your raw products to Europe and we wil share the profits together, instead of hog all profits and forcing to sell at lower prices like US, with tarifs as a thank you. \n\nAs a thank you trade will boom, we have many products you need to develop greenhouses, refine your own crude oil and start gas installations. No winners in a trade war. No winners in a Trump America. \n\nCanadians should be proud of having a smart, wise, handsome, rational leader. Sadly, ours is the polar opposite, a bloated tragic excuse for a president. As one of MANY millions who voted for Kamala, we join Canadians in the fight against these ridiculous tariffs that Trump initiated. We're ashamed of him. This Trudeau speech is very very honorable and articulate and resolute.

Prime Minister Trudeau is boldly hitting the nails on the head, and I admire his boldness and honesty as I've always admired Canada and its peoples. Trump is in the back pocket of the Russian dictator. His actions prove it to my satisfaction. Canada has been a staunch friend of the US, a real partner not just for economic benefits for both countries but for a democratic way of life. Canada is a strong democracy whose people are known for their open hearts and minds. I pray that this idiotic trade war started by a man who is subservient to Putin will come to an end. I say to Canadians, let us stick to our common values of democracy, free expression, peaceful borders, and our commitment to the greatest good of the many rather than the greatest good of the few and the Russian dictator.

Should we listen to a man that done so many wonders for the Canadian economy?

Many, if not most Canadians, have family and friends in the US. We are more than trade partners and allies. Canadians are not fighting against US citizens. We are fighting with most of you against this tyranny. As an American, I am so Proud of President Trump! If my neighbors in Canada had done what was right and stopped the flow of fentanyl from coming into Canada and flowing into my country, little Justin wouldn’t be crying right now in front of a camera. In California but 1000% Team Canada. I am actively seeking out Canadian products to replace those from red states. (Canadian Mist, Crown Royal and many others are excellent replacements for Kentucky whiskeys.) I hope (and expect) that Blue State governors are working with Canada and our other allies to put the squeeze on Trump-supporting states and industries. While I hold out little hope that Trump cultists will ever not be brainwashed, putting them through direct and maximum pain is the only possible way out. Canada, elbows up! The really sick thing is that it was trump who signed the Free Trade Agreement himself in his first term! While I have always been pressed by his superior leadership record and skills especially with his spectacular response to the impending tariffs by travelling to UK and Europe and talking about trading with Europe and East Asian countries.\nWhat a disappointment when he called Putin a murderous dictator. Justin, let’s look at the record of your friends in the West. USA has over decades bombed and killed millions of Muslims in Arab countries. Today the murders continue to go one without a peep from you or your western leader friends. In the last week the US has bypassed Congress to ship billions of dollars of bombs to Israel so Israel can with these US bombs cleanse Gaza. So Israel can steal the Palestinian lands so Trump can built a resort and hotels in these stolen Palestinian lands.\nSo what about Ukraine? Same story, different tactic. NATO with your consent poked the Russian bear for decades before Russia, whose warnings about NATO expansion went unheeded. Russia had no choice but to fight a proxy war with Ukraine as US kept on shipping dollars and weapons to Ukraine ‘to weaken Russia’. When you won the election, Justin, I thought that a younger Canadian whose father was one of the most independent thinking leader, that you would take a history lesson and realize that the US foreign policy over decades has been the cause for so much complicity in so many countries around the world. Trudeau is a WEF puppet. A tariff war between Canada and the U.S. is ridiculous to begin with, and it will certainly have negative consequences for the U.S., but much more so for Canada. Let's face it, the U.S. internal market is several times that of Canada. Many businesses in Canada exist only because of their trade with the U.S. The same is not true for the U.S. Trudeau can paint whatever picture he wants to Canadians, but the Trump administration is not made of fools and they are very much aware of the reasons they have for having enforced the tariffs.

I served alongside Canadian military when I served in the US military. They were very tough, honorable, and outstanding professionals. I have friends and family from Canada, and they love America. This trade war is so sad and so devastating for so many Americans and Canadians. These tariffs are so stupid, it's beyond reason. Trump is treating America's best friends and allies like enemies! This is not only dishonorable behavior by a US president, it is despicable!

In a best case scenario, DJT will rescind the tariffs on Canadian goods. In the worst case, we get even poorer. If this happened after Trump became president the first time, the economy was strong from 4 years of Obama's presidency. Then COVID happened, and for alot of folks here, they haven't recovered financially. Savings and retirement plans are gone. Rent is higher, for many it takes over 50% of their income. So in this emergency time, there's nothing to fall back on. Oh and DOGE will cut SNAP benefits, I'm sure. That's food stamps, meant for the people struggling. It's becoming more and more of Americans. \nAm I depressed? No, I lived through Reagan's presidency. I'm cautious about life, my job, commuting to work, putting food on the table. I'm gonna try growing veggies. I already eat 75% of my meals at home or taken from home-cooked meals. I'm saving as best I can.

Don’t be fooled, Trudeau has made the opposition in Canada much more popular with his “good talk/ opposite results. The Dems lost for this exact reason in the US America will be strong either way. He is a lame-duck Prime Minister on his way out of political life let alone public office as Prime Minister of Canada. His poll numbers were miserable and he was not supported within many in his own cabinet because of his divsisive decisions with Alberta, female MPs and hypocritical and harmful actions and words as well as broken promises to the Canadian Tax payers.

I love Canada. Canada will always be our ally, but there appears to be some “one sided-ness”. I believe the biggest issue being drugs coming across our border. \nAs someone who lives on the border, we see many Canadian cars coming to the US to shop. They even wear clothes that they throw away in dumpsters so they can wear their new clothes back to Canada without having to pay tax. \nI wish they wld accommodate to our requests.\n\nP.S.
