I live in Canada as a Kenyan and I have been here for sometime .I work as a HR/Payroll Specialist also certified in the field. The problem is not Canada , Canada is a very good county which I love and I am gland God gave me the Opportunity to Come and settle here with my family.. The problem with some people coming here is lacking of knowledge how Canada works .It’s system is very far from how things work in Dubai or Gulf countries. A lot people are thinking than you can just come and get any job even without proper papers or you can earn a lot of money and then build wealth quickly. Which is A BIG FAT LIE. The tax in Canada keeps you humble. That is how Canada funds it's high end life many admire and want to be part of. The more you work in Canada the more tax you pay and many don't know this, and it is one of the main reasons why a lot of people start to regrets, because they realize there effort of working hard is not paying as they hoped. Another thing in Canada is next to impossible to get jobs or rent a place without proper paper work, like work permit, It is not like USA where you can use someone else papers to work. the The main available jobs , easy to get , don’t pay much. And also the cost of living is very high in some provinces like Ontario and BC. They hardly recognize credentials from outside unless you came through a job offer. Also because a lot of things in Canada are paid by the government through taxes, like health care, education. Unless you are tax paper with (and I repeat) Paper work, you cant access the benefit, including thee free food available for the needy. \nMany people forget Canada is looking for people to work for them. Not to grow rich and leave. The system is meant to keep you working. Unless you understand how a system of a country works, one will continue to blame it. Let people get well informed and well educated first , before they jump in the river. And it’s not Canada a lone , but any country in the world. Also a lot of these media post about Canada are misleading. And there is also another trap called debt, a lot of people once they getting working, rush to but things they cant afford and it becomes a stress instead of a blessings.\nIf you want to live well and enjoy Canada . One of the top thing to do is, go back to school once you enter in it, get a good education and you will get a good job. Also give yourself time to adjust. REMEMBER you are starting from square one. You are not continuing where you left in Kenya or in the country you get from. Also, the general social climate is not as friendly as those in USA for example. Not many people are willing to help for free. The most jobs advertised in Canada are the lower end paying jobs, which a lot of people pay a lot of money to come for, just to realize the job they left behind was far much better than this, but no one told them that, just because it said $18 hrs and you converted it to your country and looked a lot, doesnt mean it carries the same wait once you earn in from here. The living expense are very different. The reality is, it is not where you are , but whom you are and determination knows no barrier. Anyone who will trust God for help, work hard/smart and be patience in life, they will make. It might take longer than they expect, but they will get their eventually.

Life has become very expensive worldwide. Whether in Kenya or in Canada, the cost of living hits you hard. I have lived in the US for the last more than twenty years. When I first came here $50 would be enough to buy food for a whole month. Today $50 cannot buy you food for even a week. A gallon of petrol today is over $5. The same thing is happening in Kenya, I believe. There are a number of problems when you land in Canada as a visitor. One: To covert a visitor's visor to a work permit is a process. Two; where do you want to land in Canada? If you land in Toronto, Ontario, you get stranded because everybody is landing there. People dont want to go to the north. All those pictures you are seeing are in Toronto. Because of the influx of people arriving there, the government has spent the budget for visitors and refugees. Three; the choice of jobs. When somebody promises you a job in Canada and helps to get a visitor's visa, think twice before you leave home. If somebody promises you a job in Canada, let him help you to get a work permit before you leave home. That way you are surered of a job. There are so many things to consider before you leave home.

Go to a Scandinavian country and see how you'll be treated there. Smh. There is a huge Nigerian community in Ontario and other parts of Ontario. All I ever hear is complaints from refugees and immigrants. Meanwhile you guys are treated better than ppl who have been here 40 years or more. As well as Canadians who are actually born here. When Caribbean ppl came here 40 years ago they had it really hard. Nigerians and others don't. If it's so bad here for you then go somewhere else. African ppl and other groups are handed a lot when they come here. If I go to live in Nigeria for example will I get any help whatsoever from you're govt? Let's be honest. No I won't

I think if you put them in a commune and quarantine them and put them through due process,temporarily help with housing after you do these things for our own citizens. and let them get job and start paying there own way like everybody else and not sending their money back to people across the border by working for cash under the table. Veterans and homeless come first. Maybe they should build more affordable housing instead of $3000 a month condos and build more hospitals We've been short on doctors /nurses and beds for the past 3 years and the government has done nothing to address the issues. As a second generation Nigerian immigrant (parents were born in Nigeria and I was born in the US). I 100% agree w/ his perspective. I’ve spent consider amount of time in Nigeria w/ my side of the family that’s doing well and the other side that aren’t. Aboard should only be for people who have no opportunity back home as in they have tried everything and nothing worked for them. If you are doing well in Nigeria, try and give birth to your kids in the US so they can retrieve citizenship. There is no reason a successful person back home should sell their things and move aboard even for kids as you can send them aboard to receive an education and help them gain citizenship and from their they can file for you. The amount of systemic racism, odd jobs you will have to work (God forbid you don’t have a degree and you move aboard for non degree purposes that’s when aboard will show you pepper), cost of surviving is expense here especially now as inflation is high. It’s just not benefiting especially if you were better off in Nigeria. However, this shouldn’t stop you from coming just know that the road isn’t easy and some places are worse than others. I’ve never been to Canada but have been to the UK and by far would advice anyone from back home to avoid UK at all cost. Not even sure how Nigerians are even making it there lol (it’s a never ending cycle of poverty plus citizenship is very difficult to gain and the discrimination in my opinion is much worse than the US. UK society has a class system and it only really empowers British people. The UK is so bad that they even discriminate against Eastern Europeans that should let you know a lot.) Also why do you think most Brits Nigerians come back to Naija hoping to secure job compared to American Nigerians and let me tell you it’s not because the UK is close to Nigeria, there is a true lack of opportunity. There are more opportunity in the US and possibly Canada compared to the Europe.

You know I used to have a lax attitude about immigration. Like if they want to come let them. That is until my small family and I were made homeless in April of this year. I am disabled bug earn an income in addition to disability benefits I earned by being educated and having two degrees. I couldn’t find any resources or housing. I found lots and lots and lots of resources for undocumented people even grocery assistance, rental assistance and whole orgs finding them housing. Even with kidney failure and dialysis we couldn’t find help. We had to be referred to Adult Protective Services to get any help. It took 6 months. We live in a sad place because American families can’t find affordable housing.

I hate this so much. I know it’s not these peoples fault that their countries aren’t helping them but America isn’t even helping its own people. Imagine how it feels to be from the US struggling and then these people come and somehow our country has the means to help them when they won’t not can’t won’t help their own. What other country do you know of where you can just decide to cross their boarder demand help and say you know what I’m just going to live here illegally now. And if we don’t help them they have all kinds of ways to sue the state and demand help even though they’re not even citizens. That’s what’s crazy to me. The scene where Roses mom is in the boat with that other lady who has new money the chubby one. She wanted to let people on the boat that were drowning around her, and dude wouldn’t let her. It wasn’t because he was being mean it was because if people started holding onto the boat and trying to get on the boat they would panic, and eventually everybody would swarm the boat. The boat would not have been able to hold the weight of everyone holding onto it. Well the same here there’s people who are already drowning, and other people from other countries want to come here, but all they’re gonna do is sink the ship, and then there will be no help for anybody and everyone will be doomed. No I have nothing against people coming here but not this way. I welcome anybody that wants to be here to work but not this way. America has its our own problems and the citizens pay taxes that are never used to help them. Instead the government gives money away to other countries like it’s nothing. This is something that could really help my industry if that 65,000 was raised. Everybody knows aviation is a tight industry, and with a massive labor shortage. The flight school I attend is half immigrants, mostly Japanese and Korean with a moderate minority of Europeans and Africans. The Asian students are for the most part wanting to stay in the US, despite not coming from poor nations. The opportunity for a pilot here is leagues above anywhere else bar Europe, but most will likely not even be able to maintain a work visa, let alone a green card. This also means (as pointed out) that leaving the country is hard, and they would only be allowed to fly domestic flights within the country (no flying to Canada). The issues that these highly qualified pilots could solve by being allowed to work in the US airline industry are inconceivable.\n\nIt took my mum (I was born British-American) took 9 years to become a US citizen, I was there for her first swearing in, and the UK is America’s closest ally. Imagine how difficult it is for immigrants not of such nationality.

So you came to Canada to reach your dreams… and now you want to go home. So Canada was able to support you in attaining your dreams. So does that mean the country you left didn’t give you the same opportunities? And people leave because the passport is so solid… so basically you are using the country to elevate yourself and to prosper yet you can not find the grace to understand and accept that all countries have issues and yet some are still better than most… Canada would be one of those countries. Your ingratitude is not healthy and perhaps you might stick around long enough to make the changes that you feel would make Canada a better country for all. If you are indeed a Canadian then this is your country too… so take some responsibility and help to make it better. Complaining is not the answer. \nOh btw … your work/life balance is your responsibility. Perhaps a change in consuming habits and setting priorities will help? I was pumping gas the other day and met a marine who is so proud to be an American!! They are letting these people in where they don't belong and this marine who fought for America can't even get the help he needs for housing and everything else this brave man deserves everything he needs but lives on the streets in Connecticut!! For all the amazing things the US has to offer, right now we don't even want to visit there, let alone move there. We've talked about it a lot, but nope. In Canada, generally speaking (although there are exceptions to every rule) we have no idea what political leaning our neighbors favor. Political campaigns last no more than 51 days; they do not start the day after the last election and go on for years. This way, elected officials actually do some work instead of campaigning. Right now, the politics in the US, as well as the judiciary, are literally insane. Gun violence in the US is insane, as is the attitude towards guns. It shouldn't take a shooting that affects you personally to make you care about it, and it's not just at schools. The US has had 28 mass killings, with 140 victims, in 6 months... but the problem is that no one down there cares about that enough to stop it, or even discuss ways to stop it. The politics is so sold out to corporations that what is good for the people just doesn't matter. It is capitalism run amok. Environmental protections? They are an inconvenience, and most of them were rolled back a few years ago under the presidency of He Who Must Not Be Named. So politics, elections, shootings... but wait. There's more. I have a wonderful friend in the US who has amazing health care, and yet when he got cancer, he was screwed. We do pay a health care premium up here, but it is a drop in the bucket compared to what people in the US pay for private insurance. Yes, you have the best hospitals in the world, but it doesn't matter if you can't afford to walk in the door. Now dump the intolerance -- racism, homophobia, religious zealots, misogyny (yes, I am talking women's rights, equal pay, access to health care, etc) -- throw in the crazies with guns, and now ask the question again. I absolutely know that Canada is not perfect, and that the tolerances and attitudes towards all these subjects differs from region to region, but overall we are a country that tries to respect the rights and needs of others, that has empathy for others, that wants to help others, and that is a pretty firm foundation to make us want to stay here. (please don't interpret this as all Americans and all areas of the US have no respect etc... but the predominant issues of health care, politics, religion, corporate greed, and violence, now all supported by a bat-crap crazy SCOTUS, sadly spills and taints it all. I know there are amazing, generous, kind people all over the US, but I don't know where the crazies are or where they might pop up).

I've been a caregiver for over 40 years and I just love it, but recently, I've been seeing a few people, including the HR Department and the people who hired me, try to surprise me bye popping up and the client was very upset because they didn't want to listen to her and a employee that was working with me,I wasn't aware of the problem situation that was going on, so basically I was set up with them saying that I wasn't taking care of the client honestly the client told them I've been helping them the most the employee said that I wasn't changing the client,,and I noticed that the trash Bin was being opened and I bought it attention to the client and she said be careful with the company and the co-worker that is working with us is lying on. Me and I brought it up to my supervisor and then she said that someone had said that I wasn't changing her underwear and she the client said that she would let the boss know but she came back from told me that I wasn't able to continue to work for them and I asked them why they said someone was coming from Africa to join their company and I Said that I'm not going to signing anything that is a lie ...

This is what happens when you get lax on border control. We can’t just let people in as much as I would love to help them all.

Lack of affordable housing -- lack of housing in general -- is the main reason people already living here are being priced out and why so many refugees and immigrants cannot afford the cost when they move here. When these people come to Canada for a better life and/or to escape the suffering that they were living in, they cannot bring their homes with them. It is the government's responsibility at all levels to ensure that these newcomers have a place to go when they come here. A homeless shelter should not be the answer. Buy up office spaces and convert them (if safe to do so with whatever codes need to be met) into affordable housing units. For years we've been seeing hundreds of news articles about vacancies in office buildings being at all time highs, yet only a handful of them are being converted. 500,000 people a year entering a country where there isn't enough housing for them (let alone the people living here already) is irresponsible on the government's part. If this is your pledge, at least give these people a better life and not send them to shelters or onto the streets as soon as they arrive. If Canada is to truly be a safe haven for immigrants and refugees escaping their hardships, it's paramount that the government does what it can to make these people actually feel like their life will change for the better. I'm all for immigration since it helps the economy and knowing that Canada can put people in a better position for themselves and their families, but it's the lack of preparation from the governments that makes me question their pledge in this way.
