Mr Trudeau, if you go on a trade war with the US you’re definitely gonna get it and lose. All you have to do is lower the tariffs you’re imposing on American goods so Trump won’t impose the same tariffs on you.

I know Trump doesn't understand how tariffs work, but how can other Republicans in Congress agree to starting trade wars with our closest allies? Russia and China probably can't believe their good fortune. Trade wars with your allies, Trump crapping on NATO and then hanging Ukraine out to dry. How is this allowed to happen? Things are going to get much, much worse.

Canada will lose this trade war

Canada (and many other countries) spent decades supporting the maintenance of US hegemony. Look what it got us? To a position where we're pretty much greatly dependent on, and at the mercy of the US. We need to invest more in our own country and make our own products. We should also trade with other countries regardless of what the US thinks of those countries. Trump wants Canada to put tariffs on China in the attempt to further impede that country's economic growth so the US will remain the economic hegemony. Never mind that a trade war with China would put Canada in an even worse position. Given the current events, I say we trade with China even more!

The tariff to be imposed on Canada by US clearly is a demand/indication forcing Canada to look into then curb the drug problem, which has already destroyed Canada and endangered the national security of US. When you ALREADY have tariffs in place against the US you cannot claim Trump is starting a trade war. You started it. Now we have a POTUS with the sand to stand up for us not the world. Republicans understand that things will get tough. Liberals are already snow flakes that were in a melt down from the day Trump took office. We voted them out. I don't think Canadians are going to tolerate much for long unless you open the Treasury and give them money thereby bankrupting them. Drop your tariffs and Trump will drop yours. Is a win win.

I was born in Canada to Ukrainian Immigrants. I have dual citizenship. My loyalty is to both countries. I hate what President Trump has created here. We are now pawns in the game of Trade War. So sad.

Picking a trade war with Canada, Mexico, China and major economics is a very bad idea. It will not bring anybody to the negotiation table to get a better deal. It will drive them away from US partnership and they form alliances, new trade routes and partnerships, de-dollarization, etc. Just think why does a country needs USD when they cannot trade with US. BRICS have overtaken G7 in the overall GDP. So, In the end, US will be left alone with limited trading partners. US people will need to pay for tax + tariffs which will put them in a downward spiral.

Fentanyl seizures going “into” the US from Canada is now so low is almost non-existent. Meanwhile Canada just seized 8.5 tonnes of cocaine going “from” the US into Canada just this week.
