Changes to immigration are welcome. In Quebec things are far more complicated as integration and language come into play. Most immigrants struggle to build a life in Canada due to expensive housing (renting or ownership). Canada was also accepting too many professional immigrants (engineering, business, consulting, IT, accounting) when we desperately need trades, construction workers and mechanics. The reduction in immigration and foreign students to sustainable levels is long overdue.

To be honest this is something all political party’s from across the spectrum agree with in Canada at the moment, we literally have no housing . We the Canadian Tax payer have been footing rbe bill to keeo these immigrants/ refugees in rather nice 3/4 Hotles for the last few years . I’m a farmer who lives in the county but the closest city to where I live is Windsor and for the last 4 ish year the Government was hosting them in Five Hotel's across the city . It got to the point where it was cheaper for the government to BUY the hotels then rent all the rooms , so that’s what they did … No I’m all for helping people but that is kinda pushing it don’t you think ? There are no jobs for them , no homes for them , etc . We have been in a trade war for the last 2 years with the two largest economies in the world and we need to focus our economic power on thous conflicts at the moment and if the world like it or not fighting that is out top priority and everything else comes second .Even with out that fact Our former government overloaded what our ability’s where capable of handling . We have a pretty advanced social care network but these new folks who have never payed a dime into it and are living off of it for years with the government having no real plan on how to deal with it is just to much , with our with out the economic conflict we are currently in . They're even taking jobs in the trades so now people are having to work for themselves under-the-table and launder their money the average median income in Canada is anywhere from $45000 to $50000 a year the average house costs $673,335 the average household only makes $80000 a year i used to dream about having my own home and starting a family now I just hope I can find an apartment for less than $2000 a month that isn't owned by a slum Lord living in Toronto that's bought the property without ever even being to Smiths Falls a day in their life.

When you say there is a labor shortage it's completely false thousands of skilled trades workers can't find work because of the temporary cheap labor program

For example, Trudeau allowed visas to allow people to work for minimum wage jobs in Canada or jobs with no trade skills., and even if skilled workers were invited, their jobs are not in high demand or about to be replaced by AI in a couple of years. Every year over 100,000 jobs will be replaced by AI starting from the late 2026, starting from the transportation industry, customer services, office jobs, IT jobs, and education; soon healthcare and engineering as well. No developed country needs workers anymore except very few experts and there will be massive layoff, not because of the economic crisis, but because of AI. In Japan, China, and South Korea, AI are widely used and now young people with a master or PhD degree can't even get a job.

I was the lawyer invited to this interview, and after reading some comments celebrating the end of the PEQ, I feel the need to clarify a few things. The people affected by this are not “abusing the system.” this was the program for people that came here legally and are working. To qualify for the PEQ, they had to be working full time, they pay taxes, they speak the language. They’re fixing our roads, keeping hospitals running, welding, machining, doing the jobs most of us take for granted every single day. The hard truth is that Canadians have stopped having enough children, and we simply don’t have enough young people with the skills to fill these roles. Yes, we absolutely should invest more in education and trade programs for our youth — my employer clients are begging young people to become mechanics, welders, skilled workers, often in the regions. Most don’t take those jobs, and even when they do, training takes two to three years. Our industries need people now, or parts of the economy will stall, and that affects all of us as Quebecers and Canadians. These workers are not asking for charity. They are already on the front lines keeping key sectors alive. Ending programs like the PEQ doesn’t punish “illegals” or “free riders”; it punishes people who are already integrated, working, and contributing to the society we all share. Also, all they are asking is for the new rules to not be applied to them retroactively, only for those coming new into the country, otherwise it is rug pulling those already here that played by the rules, and when the government does it to us we don't like, on principle of fairness, whatever you think of the numbers, too high too low, doesn't matters, it is the least we can all get behind as humans.
