Canada has all the necessary conditions to establish real manufacturing industries and increase production. With the presence of migrant labor such as workers from India—who are willing to accept lower wages than Canadian workers and others—the equation becomes clear: lower costs, higher output, and greater profitability. This workforce represents a real investment for those who know how to manage human resources and the economy intelligently.

No, what divided the country was Canada's loose immigrant program under the Trudeau Liberals. Over a period of 10 years our population went from 35 million to 41 million people, mostly through immigration. That is an approximate increase of 17%. This increase caused problems with housing, health care, jobs and increased cost to taxpayers because of costs associated with providing services to fake asylum seekers.

We can't solve the problems in other countries, or the world, by simply opening our borders to all. A large percentage of refugee claimants are fleeing economic poverty, not political persecution. Its unfortunate that Trudeaus promises/actions have compounded our problems and are costing us a great deal in deportation management, but the alternative would be much worse. Lets change the system for the better, and develop ways to increase our birthrates internally.

I'm no expert, but it's obvious that mass immigration is detrimental to any country. Years ago, Canada seemed like a dream country, but in the last few years, it looks like the homelessness, crime etc. has increased and the housing prices are insane. I have a Sikh friend who lived there for about 5 years but moved back to India due to the high cost of living and quality of life there going downhill. He has a much better, low stress life back home. I think there should be stricter measures to immigration. For example: Let doctors, nurses, engineers, lawyers in more easily, but those that are coming as students and going to work as cashiers, should be limited.

Integration is key for Canada as a multicultural country to coexist. Immigration needs reforming i.e.no cash jobs whatsoever, intl students will have to intl student fees, no handouts to asylum seekers who aren't from a war torn country. Highschoolers must be given priority in local jobs, it's up to the franchise owners to work their schedules up. It's ok if the cost of the product increases. This will help wages keep up with inflation. No free pregnancy trips, if you want to have your child born here make sure you pay up.

8:30 I don't buy it. They say we "have" to increase population because Canada has an aging population? Why? What wpuld happen if we don't? Increased quality of life? More affordable cost of living? Workers actually being valued and needed instead of competing for not even enough jobs? Oooh, so scary. Whatever they thought would happen, I don't see how it could have been worse than what we have now. How is getting millions of Tim Hortons and Walmart workers helping the aging population? It doesn't. The explanations don't make sense. 9:25 bs!!! How could they possibly think this? Their position is that since there was a population explosion in the 40's, now every future generation has to explode their population as well, or else there will be too many old people? Come on. It's too ridiculous to take seriously. Now since the rate isn't the same as the 40's they decide let's just import from countries that are massively over populated.... and become more like them. Like... NO!!! This is not what I want from life or for our world.

I live in Brampton, i am all for diversity but where is the diversity if everyone is Indian. I am French originally and i am in a minority of one! Let's be clear, the massive Indian increase in the population is due to Trudeau's immigration policy, the indians did not jump over the border as some of the comments suggest, they mostly came here legally, and this was done without broad agreement of the Canadian population as a whole. Canadian population went from being 30 million inhabitants to 40 millions in just over a decade, a massive population increase in a short time due mostly to Indian immigration with huge impact on housing , cost of housing, infrastructure, jobs, taxes, etc... The liberals have a lot to answer for the disaster which Canada has become in the last 10 years and yes they got rid off Trudeau, but they are still in power, stiffling the potential economic growth of Canada which should be a rich country instead of being a country where many people live from pay cheques to pay cheques.

Immigration has increased because the government needs more people for the economy. The population 25+ years ago was enough to keep with the costs and demand. Now, Canada probably has a lot of demand and needs an influx of people both for education and jobs. Indians are enticed to come because they hear about towns that cater towards Indians like Brampton. Chinese people used to be the majority of immigrants and that was because Chinatowns would cater to them. Not to mention, these immigrants likely have temporary worker or student visas. These an whole thing with the student visas but I don't want to get into it. So Amazon and other large companies need a lot of workers for their demand and look outside of Canada to fill the job numbers. Meanwhile, Canadians that have been here for awhile are on the streets and jobless. So basically, Canada needs immigration for its demand but I think when too many people come all at once and from usually one country, Canadians will notice the change and feel the tensions that come with it.

My apartment complex was taken over by Immigrants and they hated me for making bacon and eggs in the morning they conspired against me and had me evicted I lived in a car for two weeks before I found an apartment and now my rent is higher and I can barely afford it... living in canada is going to get worse for canadian and the immigrants our taking our country they only hire their own when they get in a position of power in their line of work... and the cost of living is getting higher because the landlords know to increase rent when the international students come here

Canadian women birth rate of 1-1/3 children per woman is a great explanation of where the Woke fools come from . The actions of few spoiled Indians affect the entire Decent Indian community and India. Canada is in need of labour force due to less population and India has more population but insuffient jobs to engage people. If this scenario is reversed Indians would be complaining like canadians do. Yes, few Indians are bad but not the entire community. Canada has its own needs that needs a lot of hands and support. Historically, tariffs have been imposed to support production of American goods. Think cotton, steel, other raw materials the U.S. used to produce in past centuries. For the past several decades, America has not produced many raw materials because it's cheaper to buy them from countries who can pay their workers less to keep the cost of production low. It's impossible to quickly begin producing these things here, so Trumplethinskin's tariffs will do nothing but piss off our trading partners and dramatically increase the prices Americans pay for a long list of essential goods. Unlike other jurisdictions, in Canada municipalities are responsible for all transport infrastructure and utility infrastructure with the exception of major provincial highways, airports, and electricity and gas distribution systems. Meanwhile, Canadian municipalities can only levy property taxes and no income or sales taxes. Thus, Canadian municipalities governments are very attached to property owners, leading to the political conditions that make housing harder to build and new housing more expensive. The vast majority of the policies restricting housing supply and increasing costs of new housing, like development charges on new homes to fund infrastructure instead of taxing existing property owners, onerous and restrictive zoning regulations, and slow and expensive permitting processes all come from the cities. Honestly, for many city politicians it is to their advantage to make the crisis worse. Why wouldn’t a city councillor vote to raise development charges on building new homes instead of raising property taxes on existing homes to pay for stuff like replacing life expired sewer and road and subway infrastructure!? His constituents aren’t going to care about the costs of new homes, which affect people moving to the city or younger generations, which are either not yet residents of the city or too young to vote.

I am a conservative and I admit that Donald Trump's tariffs will have a negative impact on Americans. If you think businesses are going to pay for the increased cost of importing and are not going to scale back their labor forces are raise prices you don't have an understanding of business and finance. 80% of potash is imported from Canada. Potassium it's necessary for plant growth and a major input for farmers. The Tariffs will increase the cost per ton by at least $100 per ton. Regardless if domestic mining increases it'll result in higher grocery prices.... Again. We need to impeach this administration. Let me explain the trading relationship briefly that occurs between Canada and the US for context. \n \nCanada Has a LOT of natural resources, more than our domestic manufacturing base needs (Uranium fuel, Lumber/paper products, Steel and other metals, Fertilizer for farms...etc). Therefore we sell those raw materials to the states where they are manufactured into goods, which we then buy back. a LOT of American service companies like tech, media (And yes, even banks)...etc also operates in Canada as well. (For the auto sector the parts flip back and forth across the border like 8 times) \n \nThis relationship alone has the American economy see a large trade surplus with Canada, however there is another element to it: Energy. \n \nCanada is also home to a LARGE amount of really cheap renewable hydro power in the east, and a LOT of oil in the west, due to a lack of infrastructure we really can only sell that oil to the states and therefore it is done at a discount. America refines this cheap oil into gas and is a large part of the reason why American gas is so cheap. They use this energy to power the same factories mentioned above. (Oh and also the NE states import a lot of that clean hydro electricity for the same reasons) \n \nThe US Buys SO MUCH of that cheap energy from us to power your industrial base, that it swings the numbers on the trade balance into a small deficit for the USA. (41 billion out of a TRILLION dollars total trade, or about -4.1% of total trade so literally a pretty small deficit) It also swing back and forth every year so \n \nThen comes Trump. He wants Canada as a 51st state and own the entire continent, therefore he manufactures an excurse that our border is leaky and that migrants and fentanyl are flowing over. (In actual case migrants and the flow of Fent is about 1% the amount that's crossing at the Mexico border but he needs an excuse) \n \nHe therefore puts 25% tariffs on us. Those tariffs will hit Canada harder than the 2008 financial crisis just for scale. \n \nOh and also for the most part American Refineries literally cant process any other oil than ours or Venezuela's because its thicker so tariffs on our oil will also really increase the priced of energy in the states by a huge amount just for the LOLs. As we've seen during the post covid recovery, since gas is priced in to the supply chain at every step (Manufacturing, transportation...etc), any increase at the pump will snowball into higher costs for everything at the store, on top of the extra cost of the tariffs on consumers. (Since every step will need to add it into their markup.)

I'd love to see MAGA explain this one... Canada did exactly what the president asks to avoid tarriffs and now what? I grew up on Vancouver Island and the local government didn’t allow for secondary suites. Then with housing crisis continuing the fact that province had to step in with a carrot and stick approach to municipal governments to approve more housing and change regulations stick being if you don’t meet targets you lose power and carrot you hit the targets you get cash this created a direct opportunity cost of nimbyism plus the federal government would top the amounts if a municipal government hit there housing targets. It changed really quickly the municipal government changed the law to allowing secondary suites to be built which the cost per square foot to build is 1/3 compared to new builds. This allows more rental properties and housing options and allows more people to purchase goods and services in the local area and not dramatically increasing the costs of new infrastructure to service them as compared to a new housing development on the outskirts of the city. A home could comfortably double it’s density every effectively, affordably and swiftly.

The reason real estate prices have gone 300% but incomes only 100% is because of low interest rates. If you factor in carrying costs, the numbers aren't as extreme. The challenge now is that interest rates have increased to stave off inflation generated primarily during the covid years. While this has somewhat abated, real estate carrying costs remain elevated and price growth has stagnated, while the Canadian dollar has fallen, effectively resulting in reduced housing valuations (in US dollar terms). Can we ride this out until incomes catch up? Will productivity increases promised by leading political challengers (election coming this year) move the needle? Are tariffs and 51st state rhetoric just a negotiating tactic and bluster, or something real? Nobody knows, but we will find out..

And most Canadians I have asked myself really are unsure whether we should build more homes.\n2. Justin Trudeau's border plan of 1.3 billion over six to ten years is a joke! Tariffs on America after several US administrations tried to work with Canadian governments to stop provocations in trade, border security, immigration, and many other issues, only to fall on deaf ears or passive responses, not to mention Trudeau's derogatory comments about Trump being a racist. At the same time, Trudeau was caught having a history of wearing racist blackface. Not wise! \n\nFor some odd reason, Trudeau thought it was also wise to mock the American President, Donald Trump, with other European leaders while attending a meeting in the UK at Buckingham Palace, which clearly invited bad blood between the two. Not to mention his missteps while traveling in Europe and meeting with Kamala. He also increasingly chose to snuggle up to China. However, America has provided Canada with favorable trading relations and high-cost subsidies in the form of military and territorial security for decades. That clearly was a slap in the face and wasn't very smart! You had to figure some American president would ultimately say enough!\n\nAmerica has supported, defended, and offset the national defense costs of European nations for over seventy years, while EU countries and their leaders have routinely mocked and ridiculed Americans. Is it really classy to slap the face of someone who protects and supports you and your quality of life? No, it's not! He can impose those tariffs and either Canada and Mexico agree, or the do exactly what they just did, think they can win a economic war with the United States. See, Trump gets what he wants either way, they don't cooperate, Trump gives huge tax incentives to companies to start producing here in the U.S. which will in turn reduce the price of everything for Americans, see, if you produce it here instead of overseas, Canada or Mexico, we can pish for a huge increase in overall production reducing the costs to consumers, since the products no longer have to be imported.
